I love an independent candy store!…read more While visiting Columbia Park, we stopped into Nelson's per our friend's recommendation. The inside was lined on both sides with some many different candies - I was almost overwhelmed! They had fresh fruit jellies, dark and milk chocolates, rock candy, marshmallows - I could go on and on! We took home the jellies, dark chocolate almond bark, a discounted Valentine's Day chocolate heart box, handmade marshmallows and a couple of other goodies! Staff were friendly! The inside had an old western feel to it and they even had old school cash registers. It's a great place to pick up a gift and they have different holiday options - I even saw St. Patrick's Day candy out already! Check them out!

My favorite chocolates they make are pine nut rolls - which are also around the winter holidays. They always theme their shop around the season or holiday, and it's always well done and incredibly cute. The girls who work there are so friendly and helpful, and every time I've gotten candy as a gift for someone, their wrapping job is exquisite. I'm a local and it's a struggle not to just come get candy here every week. I recently went sugar free and they've even got something for me. Would absolutely recommend anyone stop in, they've got options for just about anyone.

An absolute must-visit on Washington Street in Sonora!…read more The Local Collective is exactly what its name represents: a place rooted in genuine care for people, families, and the local community. What stands out immediately is how kind and welcoming the owners are. This is truly a family-run shop, and you can feel the intention behind everything they do. They aren't just stocking shelves, they are thoughtfully sourcing items they would confidently choose for their own family and children. That level of care is rare. We bought a hoodie, hat, and t-shirt for my daughter's birthday, and she has been wearing them every single day since. The quality is incredible! I mean really. These are not cheaply made pieces. You can feel the difference right away in the fabric, the fit, and the durability. What makes this place even more special is the heart behind it. It's not just about business. It is about people. They genuinely care about the families who walk through their doors and he went out of his way to offer products that reflect that. They do not jack up the prices but the quality is better than an REI or Sax 5th Avenue. I know good quality and these items are made very well. We also purchased a tumbler for my children, bird house, two stuffed animals, and a few other little things and the quality and make are consistent throughout the store no matter what it is. Having seven children we know good quality items. Unfortunately, it is not an unfamiliar experience to see things break after purchasing. Not here! If you're looking for meaningful, high-quality items and want to support a family that truly puts other families first, this is a place you'll want to keep coming back to and buying from again and again.

This is probably my favorite local shop to get coffee. It tastes the same every time (yummy &…read moreconsistent) and I trust that I'm getting the decaf espresso that I ask for. I've also purchased many items from here like mugs, candles, t shirts, children's sensory toys, stickers, jewelry, sauces, and a Christmas advent calendar. I never really know what I'm going to find in Local Collective, but there's always something I want. I also love love loveee the atmosphere. It's so welcoming, the music's always on point, and the staff is very friendly. 10/10 my favorite shop in downtown Sonora.

(It's not possible to post a "review" without a star rating, so I picked what I thought would be a neutral 3 stars.) The shop has appeared to be closed, with curtains shut, every time I've passed by for years. Based on the appearance from the outside, I thought it was possible it was just an empty storefront from a business that had gone away years ago. Based on the posted hours on Yelp, which indicated it would be open today (Sunday, April 14, 2024) from noon to 6:00 p.m., I made a specific trip there. Unfortunately, when I arrived at 12:20 p.m., the door was padlocked shut (possibly the owner's normal method of locking the door), the curtains were (still) shut, and there were no posted hours of operation. This strikes me as a surprising way to run a business. Not knowing reliable hours of operation, I definitely won't make another trip to Jamestown to try this fudge, but I suppose I might see if the shop is open if I am in Jamestown for another purpose.

Rich or poor....wasting money is hella dumb. Why pay $3.00 for ONE when you can get THREE? Yes, there are some things here that are just a trailer looking for a park. All dollar stores have those things. This one just doesn't have as many; focusing instead on a higher quality of goods that just so happen to also be a bargain. For example, their gift wrap, bow and box section is AMAZING. Why why why would anyone go anywhere else for this stuff is beyond me...I see people paying 5.99 for wrap and shiny bobbledobs that they can get here for 99 cents and it's the same daggum stuff! (This I know to be true because if you are ever so lucky enough to have me as a Plus 1 at your shower dinner birthday bris...know that presentation is everything to me, I'm gay and I have a glue gun. Nuff said.) Cleaning products? Same thing. Pine Sol, Ajax...take it from someone who gets excited about cleaning the air conditioner vents...buy that stuff HERE. Store is really clean, always well stocked and cashiers friendly. And as a tip: go the day after a holiday and all the holiday stuff is 2 or 3 for .99cents. Christmas is especially the bomb for stuff that can be used outdoors (or indoors) without worrying about that water-head kid down the street stealing from your yard display. The store also has a great deal on grapes when in season. 3.99 a pound at Safeway? DUMB. .99cents here and they look feel and taste the same. Should note that I'm really freaky about grapes. Or rather, grapes that have been fingered. They have to come right out of the back room and still on the cart or I won't even look at them...they are dirty little orbs that have lost their virginal charm to a little Petrie dish of a runny nose kid. So when I just casually mentioned non-fingered grapes while in line...guess what happened? An off the clock employee heard me and went into the back and found brand new not pre-fingered grapes for me! Sooooo impressive! Thank you! How darn cool is that? It's like a three day OCD holiday weekend! Marc 1...Fingered Grapes 0. I love this place. Now off to go finger my grapes. After hand sanitizer first, of course.
