Yianni's has become our spot. Whenever we want to celebrate something - we celebrate with Yianni's. Their gyro meat is amazing. We often order multiple orders of their gyro meat à la carte to go. We use it to make many of our future meals that week (well...if it lasts that long...we often devour it as soon as we're back home). I feel abundantly blessed that Yianni's opened up in the Sonora area. The place is brimming with charm and good vibes. They offer regular specials, and their standard menu is full of flavorful options. No matter your dietary needs or preferences - they got you. The server was very sweet and attentive, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. I had the chicken sandwich, and it was quite bland and seemed to be missing seasoning. My partner enjoyed the fish, so that dish was a better experience. The biggest disappointment was the tzatziki. It tasted unusually sour, almost as if the yogurt had expired. I genuinely hope the kitchen tastes it before serving, as it didn't seem right. I did let the server know and she did let the kitchen know. I'm very familiar with Greek cuisine, and compared to what I've had elsewhere, the food here was unfortunately quite mediocre. I also noticed the owner's responses to other reviews. I hope the feedback isn't only acknowledged but also used to make meaningful improvements. Legit! My friend kept telling me about this place but when I go up that way it's normally closed ( Sunday). Finally had a chance to get there on a day it was opened and was pleasantly surprised. The owner's son was our waiter, very sweet, welcoming and great service. Anybody walking in was greeted so kindly. You can tell this is a local's spot and they are legit Greek! Food was very good. Well, I had high hopes for a great steak salad because I can't really find one on the menu in very many places in this area. It turned out that my to go order would be much less than my expectations. I ordered the steak salad and it came with maybe one cup of romaine lettuce, chopped, mostly core pieces. I asked for extra cucumber and got two slices cut in half. I got two cherry tomatoes cut in half some very thinly sliced onions kind of just dumped on the salad. I asked for extra feta cheese and didn't get any extra just a very small amount that actually was suitable for the amount of lettuce that came with it. The steak was a bit dry but had some flavor overall I feel that this salad would be more suited for an add-on/side to an additional order. I have not eaten here before so this is my first experience and it's not a good one. I will have to dine in to see if maybe it's different versus takeout. I was hoping for a lovely salad and got nothing of the sort. To sum it up: Steak Salad with a couple tomatoes and a couple cucumber slices some red onion, very thinly sliced and dumped onto the salad in a clump and I think there was some cheddar cheese across the top or something that didn't belong. Feta as well, maybe a tablespoon. Was not very leafy had mostly the ends of the Romain. I have heard good things about this place and yet this is not something I would order again. read more

I was in town for work and stopped by for dinner after. We were there on a Tuesday, and had the place almost to ourselves. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a cozy ambiance. Service was very friendly, attentive and not pushy. We tried the spanakopita and the flaming cheese for appetizers. I always love spanakopita, but had never tried the cheese before. The best part? The server squeezed a lemon over to extinguish the flame. Crispy, flavorful and gooey on the inside-what a treat! I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate with a side of green beans. While the chicken and pita were delicious, the green beans stole the show for me. Cooked in a tomato broth with Greek seasoning and simmered with potatoes and carrots, these beans were next level. I'd go back again just for this side (and of course the spanakopita). There's so much more of the menu to explore. I can't wait to come back and try something new! read more

The waitress was nice and though we had to wave her down a couple of times she addressed all our requests. I tried the special today which was Fish N Chips. It came with 4 or 5 strips of fish and the first 3 strips were amazing and fresh. However the 4th one I tried was a little fishy so it kinda of ruined it for me in the end. The homemade tarter sauce was excellent and one of the best I have ever had. The fries were crisp and delicious. My husband had the moussaka which he really loved. I knew from the moment my friends and I sat down at our table that this place is something special. The host addressed us ASAP and our waitress was not far behind. That's who let us know that this is a family owned restaurant, with the owner being from Greece... And low and behold, the host was his son and our waitress was his wife. We asked about how the restaurant came to be and how their family ended up in Sonora and it was such a beautiful love story. It was obvious that their love for each other and Greek food is embedded into every inch of their restaurant and every bite of their food. Beyond that, their food was absolutely delicious. I couldn't settle on just one item so I went with their Greek sampler plate and a salad. The sampler plate came with grilled pita, hummus, tzatziki, spicy feta, and dolmadas for roughly $17. I ate every single bite of what I ordered. Everything was as fresh as can be and it was clear that it was all homemade. My friends were just as impressed with their food and we couldn't stop raving about it even after we left. My friends live in the area and expressed how they will definitely be returning. Heck, same if I ever find myself back in Sonora. This is exactly the type of establishment I want to support and I can't recommend it enough! read more

We had 2 gyros, which were a little skimpy on sauce and tomato. I was floored when the charged not for more lettuce and tomatoes, because I kid you not, they have me 6 shredds of lettuce. Too funny We also had a chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was nicely marinated, but the Caesar dressing was just weird; it tasted more Italian or Greek dressing then Caesar. First off if I could give 10 stars I would. I went to Yiannis Grill with my family a few days ago. At first I had my suspicions because of greek food in downtown Sonora but those quickly escaped my mind. We quickly sat down with the owner of the establishment Michael saying hello as well as the wait staff so very friendly. My mom and dad who have been to Greece before said that the overall look and feel of the restaurant were just like Greece. The waitress came almost immediately and took our order. I got the Saganaki and grilled lamb with dessert being the Baklava. It tasted amazing some of the best food I have ever had. When they brought out the cheese it was flaming and tasted amazing. We soon got our main courses which were spectacular couldn't have been made better and the owner came over and started taking with us. I loved how he didn't make us seem like we were an average family coming to eat but instead got our names, and asked about us and where we were from etc... I had been wanting to try out this location for months and it did not disappoint. Darlene our waitress was extremely attentive with refills of fresh coffee the entire meal. I had called ahead requesting breakfast in the middle of the afternoon and thankfully they offer it all day long. Definitely stop by if that's what your craving not during typical breakfast time. My family and I were on our way home from Stanislaus National Forest's Pinecrest Lake loop on Memorial Day and needed dinner to be ready pronto so we could dine and dash to get home, get our kids washed up and to bed, and all be ready for work and school the next day. So we called 6 minutes ahead of arriving to put our order in. Once we got to the restaurant, our table was reserved and the food was out in 2 minutes just as ordered and agreed upon. I wish I could remember our server's name - he was young, welcoming, and gave superb customer service. We are so thankful for him and his team at Yianni's! One star is knocked off only for two reasons: - My husband's chicken pita wrap was very skimpy on the amount of chicken, and - My turkey, avocado, bacon salad was shown in the online menu to be $17.99, but we were charged $19.99 It was delicious though, and because our server was super amazing and we were treated so well, we didn't mention it and still left a 20+% tip. We'd definitely come again - we might just order some other things and/or plan out the day more for a longer sit down experience as the ambiance was very pleasant. The restaurant felt well-kept and clean, and it offered a nice feel of Greece as pictures of the country were shown on a nearby TV screen hung on a wall with beautiful and appropriate Greek painted colors that matched other walls around the entire interior. This cute little Greek restaurant had great ambiance. It had the traditional blue and white and flowers draped on the ceiling. It was lovely. The service was amazing! There was a woman and a man who came to check on us regularly and they were kind, informative, and quick. The food was delicious! The Greek potatoes were my favorite bite of my dish and my husband loved the lamb! Everything we had was good. We got the baklava cheesecake and that was delicious if you love cheesecake.
