I've been a customer here for several years, so it is not fun for me to write this. But ownership/management changed in the last year or two, and customer service has gone downhill. Basically, unless you spend hundreds on your cleaning with them a week, they don't care about you or the quality of the cleaning for you. I recently dropped off a dozen dress shirts to be washed and pressed-- and the reason why I would do this at a cleaner instead of doing it myself is because it's a pain to get out the wrinkles. Washing is easy, ironing is a pain. Well, EVERY SINGLE SHIRT came back with the edges folded over and with wrinkles ironed in. Some had that problem on the front of the shirt as well. Like literally no quality control. I'm going to have to iron each shirt again before wearing. When I showed the guy at the counter (owner? manager?), he shrugs and says, it happens sometimes. What about every single shirt? Shrug. It's outsourced, we don't do it here. If you want it done right, you need to pay $7 a shirt to have it hand ironed. He asks me what can he do? I say, how about I bring them back and you fix them? No no, he says, impossible, unless you want to pay $7 a shirt. What?? To fix your mistake? I ask him if he would be happy as a customer to have every single shirt come back with wrinkles ironed in. He shrugs. I suggest a modest discount to give me a reason to try them again after this snafu. No no, can't do that, he says. I say I've been a long time customer, doesn't that matter? He looks me up in his computer, and says, haha, your spend is not enough to matter! Ok, fine-- never coming back, will go to one of the dozens of other cleaners in a 2 block radius. What a sad way to run a business and silly way to treat your loyal customers. read more

I've been using Columbia Cleaners for over 3 years- I can't believe I haven't written a review! Nothing put positive things to say about this great cleaner. I send my laundry out- sometimes same day- and they have free delivery and pick up which is a plus. I truly, truly trust this place! The first reviewer is correct--Columbia Cleaners customer service is unparalleled in NYC. New York does not have very good customer service in general, so its just amazing to walk into a store where they remember your name and order. It never fails. By and large the dry cleaning is good--once in a while I have a problem, but Columbia will always re-clean the garment for free. I have to disagree about the tailor--while I have not tried his location the tailor at Columbia is great. I actually got the suit for my wedding tailored there--totally trustworthy people. read more

I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND! Living in NYC, time is a precious commodity. I travel extensively for work, and I need to have my laundry and dry cleaning set out. As normal, I call a little after 7:00am to schedule a pick up from my doorman, telling the Columbia Cleaner's that I needed it same day. Knowing I have a doorman and that I am not aware of the time they pick up, the delivery guy and company did not pick up till late in the afternoon. Fortunately, my doorman keeps track of times of pick ups and deliveries, so I became aware of the situation, figuring they at least have it in the morning. Well when I called, they gave my a huge attitude, yelling and screaming at me. They never did anything; I told them I would get it handled by another company. Run the other way, do not use, seriously do not use. read more

They don't clean the clothes! I went to this place several times, although I wasn't satisfy due to lack of proper washing but I kept going because it was near me. Every time I got back my clothes they were so unclean and even worst than before washing but every time I gave it benefits of doubt! This time I bought a very nice sheets and after 2 weeks, some dirt from air conditioner made me to sent it for laundry, after I got them back, I noticed they weren't cleaned even a little bit! Every little stain still remain on sheets so I reached out to the guy and he said it's normal because laundry can't clean old stain! I said it's not old and what's the point of laundry if cannot clean the simplest dirt! He said I can't guarantee the clothes will come out clean if I try again! Since I didn't want to be charged again I returned home unsatisfied and went straight to bathroom with one of the small sheet I hand washed it for like one minute and every dirt came off so easily! I didn't even try to clean it just 5 drop of soap did it! If I could, I star this shop less than one star! I'm not sure they use enough amount of soap or what ever it is that they use for washing cloths and it's so gross if they don't wash clothes properly! This wasn't the first time I was unsatisfied with the quality of their service! It's not much to expect cleanness from laundry! read more

Just took my two piece suit and shirt into this dry cleaner and the shirt was still dirty and the suit had the same smell as if it had never been cleaned before. Actually I saw how perfectly tailored her dress was and how well it fit her and she recommended Mr. Kim. I have all my clothes tailored by Mr. Kim and my female coworkers comments on how well my clothes fit me. I have recommended Mr. Kim to them and I had one coworker who was very satisfied with his work. He basically turned a size 8 dress to a size 0 for her. I've had a tuxedo jacket that was a size 4 that I needed to make a size 2 and he made it perfectly for me in time for my job interview! I would not trust my clothes with any other tailors (and all my clothes are couture brands - Yves Saint Laurent, Prada, Fendi, etc.). I live right around the corner from Colombia Cleaners and decided to give it a shot because its cheaper than turtle bay cleaners. In my four weeks at Colombia Cleaners I've been appalled by the experience. Three times my laundry Was not delivered as promised. The latest episode is what really disgusted me though.. I asked for some clothes to be dried 'low tumble dry' so that they don't shrink First, I receive damp, soggy clothes. Next I return the clothes to a minor apology from the man at the desk. They then 'clean' my clothes and deliver it the next day. The clothes wreak like a skunk. I come into tell the man at the desk. Instead of apologizing he says that there is nothing wrong with the clothes and that the followed my directions. He then tells me to not come back. Don't worry, I won't come back. I hope others avoid Colombia cleaners as well. It's a very poorly Run place. Spend the few extra $ and go To a legitimate cleaners. read more

Lost dress!!!! No refund!!! I went to Columbia cleaners for years and had no problem and then last month they lost my dress. They acknowledged the mistake and promised me a refund yet I have been chasing him down for 1 month and all I have gotten are excuses. Came in with about $40 worth of cleaning. Specifically asked for separate wrappings for each shirt, since I take them to work, individually. The guy said no problem, that he would "note" the account, but I could see he did no such thing. So again, after I paid, I reiterated the importance of separate wrappings, and he reiterated that he would "make a note", although it felt like the bums rush, since he already had my money and just wanted to finish the interaction with me. Considering the laundry room in our apartment building basement scares the crap outta me, I go to Columbia for all of my laundry/dry cleaning needs... which is a lot (the price of having an affinity for silk!). Columbia does a great job and has excellent customer service. They pick up and drop off free of charge and even give you a personalized laundry bag (it's the little things in life). Great service, friendly, and prompt. I had left Columbia Cleaners a year ago because I thought the tailoring at Alpian's was better. So I ended up moving all of my business to Alpian's. The tailoring at Alpian's is unmatched anywhere in the midtown area. However, their cleaning service is not very quick and service was questionalbe. AUG 2014 review: DO NOT USE!!!! Mixed other peoples underwear in my clothes 3 times!! I left a shirt with a easy removable stain to see if they used soap... NOPE. I needed my measurements taken so I could order a bridesmaids dress, and these guys were great. I asked around to two other places in the area and one was rude, while the other wanted to charge me $10 for something that would take 5 minutes. I called Columbia Cleaners to ask if someone could take some measurements for me, and how much it would cost, and they said "a couple of dollars, whatever you want", and were very friendly. They didn't name a price. They were quick and friendly, and they were appreciative when I gave them $5 for their time. read more

I can only speak to the alteration side of Columbia Cleaners, but I have to say they are amazing! The fitting room is very tiny and flimsy, but the tailor carefully marks up your items and works with you to get the fit right. I got 4 pairs of jeans taken in and a dress for an upcoming wedding fitted, and they are all spectacular. The dress especially is fantastic - it was a large alteration including moving the zipper, and it looks flawless. Would highly recommend! read more

I have explained to them several time that if pants have pleats please iron a crease, if they do not have a pleat please do NOT iron a crease. Well apparently they like creases because they always press creases in your pants. I have even brought them back to iron out a crease and have had it returned with a crease.
