I highly recommend Columbia Dental in Rocky Hill. I'm 63 years old and had 5 teeth needed to be removed including a wisdom tooth deeply embedded in my jawbone and needed upper and lower partials redone. I had no insurance and limited financial ability. Dr Thakar did a great job getting the teeth out with minimal pain. She helped me with a plan so I could pay in installments. She made sure the partials were properly adjusted when I had some problems after my gums healed. Kind compassionate and highly skilled. Everything you want in a dentist. read more

I decided to take my son to this dentist after our last dentist claimed he "wasn't flossing enough". Yeah right... I flossed them myself for god's sake! The doctors here were very polite and didn't mind my son wailing and screaming while they worked on him! However, they did not give us a complimentary toothbrush... 1 star read more

Do not go here! To Wethersfield or Rocky Hill location! I had a dental cleaning appt, I arrived and they said I didn't have an appt! They have 2 separate class action lawsuits against CT based Columbia Dental - read the other reviews here. As of 1/2024 they NO LONGER TAKE MEDICAID for adults - the receptionist told me "they were part of the headache and reason for issues, but things have started to CLEAN UP and less chaos front end." Wish I had read all the poor reviews for this dental group before going there. Extremely poor service and unprofessional atmosphere. Several times I was given an appointment, only to learn that a hygienist was not even there! Another time, after being called to come in early, I was then told the dentist was a half-hour behind and I could either wait or leave. Don't get me started on the Billing Department. By far the worst dental experience of my life. I unfortunately had to switch insurances and they were the only in network practice nearby. Both dental and billing were/are terrible experiences. Would give 0 stars if I could. Dental- the doctor seemed very friendly and funny at first. Played his own music, which was okay and had some good jokes. Then things fell apart. He was extremely condescending and even shouted at the hygienist which was very unprofessional. He also screwed up a filling royally. Tight space where he was and he just jammed the guard into my gum and I could feel it slice and start to gush blood through the novocaine. I will never be seen by him again. The billing was an absolute joke. They broke down the charges and had no clue what I owed each time. Long story short, I am owed hundreds which still has yet to be paid. Their billing department is completely unorganized and incompetent. I called a half dozen times and was given the run around. I finally went in person and demanded a check and the manager was quick to say it was processed and in the mail. This has been a 5 month process. Avoid this place at all costs!!!! read more

Consistently appalling service. They make an appointment, give you a reminder card, yet apparently never put it into their system. This has happened repeatedly. I've learned to call and confirm because I got burned once when I didn't call and I got there and they didn't have me scheduled. Although once after I did confirm they still pulled that $#!t on me when I got there and all they could tell me was, "We can't see you today...someone should have called you..." Yeah, no $#!t, Sherlock. I have zero trust in this place. The actual dental care is OK but due to the admin problems I am soooo in the market for a new practice. read more

I was operated on by Dr. Tina Liang for a root canal in 2014. After experiencing intermittent pain, I visited my new dentist and the first comment from him was - why this unnecessarily big post? After examining the x-rays, he also mentioned that there were files left in the canal which may be causing some pain and he referred me to a specialist. The specialist confirmed these findings and added that not only the metal files are left in the canal causing infecting underneath. The tooth is broken and is difficult to restore. The post was not even on the canal, it was misplaced. The only option I have is to have the tooth extracted. Not only it costed me almost $1300, but also had me suffer through a lot of tooth ache. Most disturbing thing about this was METAL FILES left in the canal. It shows how poorly my root canal was done. read more

Dr. Okasha and his assistant in Manchester are good. They must get a big financial incentive to work in such a horrible medical setting where people are arguing with the Billing in front of everyone, or being disrespected by the staff on their way out the door. My dental needs are exceptionally challenging & this dentist has the skills, so I have to hunker down & deal with them. BE WARNED the Billing office are not upfront and honest. Talk to your insurance before going in there and know what is covered and for how much. Columbia Dental's Billing staff are all people who seem to have come from the COLLECTIONS industry and they take that tone with you. In addition, Columbia Dental apparently likes to hire people whose English is a second language and who don't understand American idiomatic phrases or quick pragmatic speech. So they force you to speak in long sentences with repetittion and they still don't often understand. How's that for a medical business model? So you'll tend to become agitated meanwhile they'll keep repeating some big disputed number. Try to have some kind of backup plan. For instance, if they say this conversation is being recorded for accuracy then you can say, "then you won't mind if I record it too right?" Connecticut is a "two-party consent" state so you both have to agree. But if they can do it, so should you be able too without complaint. Don't let them bully you, stand up for yourself. The Billing Department is usually represented by a tall woman named Yola. She will demand payment from you before the appointment starts or any work is done. She'll tell you to get reimbursed from your insurance after you pay. What they do then is go ahead after your appointment and Bill your insurance and collect twice, a double bill. People usually say, oh please bill my insurance and see what they cover. It's up to you to go back, (after all the fighting and you swore you never would) to get reimbursed FROM THEM, because THEY NOW HAVE YOUR MONEY HONEY. Call your insurance to verify what services were paid to Columbia Dental already and the SERVICE CODE. THAT'S the dental code the doctor submits to insurance for payment on the work that he did. Every penny an insurance company pays is linked to a specific service or procedure (like pulling a tooth, aka, also known as "extraction") using its CODE, like B6483 or whatever it is for your particular service. Your insurance company code for an x-ray may be different numbers than the ones used by another insurance company, but they all use codes for payment even Medicaid. If you have to go in there, stand up for yourself and don't be bullied or mistreated. read more

Dr. Liang worked on my teeth. It was a big mistake. She was terrible and I had all types of problems with her. She is the worst dentist that I have gone to. She did a terrible job on my teeth. it is almost as if she has had no training. I have since read that she has been sued numerous times. read more

Avoid this place, My wife's filling was done 3 months ago and we had to return 4 times to have them fix up the poor work, up until today she still feel uncomfortable. We were told the follow up visits were free, and yet they still processed the claims with the insurance company for additional money. Their billing department still sends us bill to pay for. After we followed up with them, they said we don't have a balance. and promised to send us a $0 balance. One month later, here goes again. They send us the entire bill, and yet the billing department wont return the phone calls after multiple follow ups. DONT GO THERE!!! read more

Consistently poor quality service with an inflated bill at the end which I am fighting to get my $1550 dollars back which I was overcharged on the second tooth. Still have not received a refund and I am ready to take them to small claims court. Had two implants done and one did'nt fit so instead of replacing it they ground the tooth in front of it which did not fix it. Do not trust these people or go to this business ever! You will have problems and be left to deal with the fall out. Dr Mara is a scumbag dentist who will not fix the problems he causes and leaves you to live with it. I will get this gap problem fixed elsewhere I don't trust these people. I will also get my money back one way or another. Beware! read more

Swindlers. I cannot recommend this dentist and I wish I could. They told me I needed hundreds of dollars in dental work. Something in my gut told me to be skeptical. I went to another dentist in the area for a second opinion and was told I was perfectly fine. I'm not a person who writes a lot of reviews but I had to write one in regards to the care that Dr. Liang provided me. I just had to rebut a previous review and describe my experiences with Dr. Liang. I have always found Dr. Liang to be professional, skilful and courteous. I had all four wisdom teeth pulled out so beautifully that I did not require the prescribed painkillers afterwards. I used to dread going to the dentist before I started seeing Dr. Liang. Amazingly, She has the ability to make her patients Comfortable even in a dentist chair. Needless to say, I am very upset over her departure and she is the main reason for the five star review. She is a wonderful dentist in all aspects of the profession. I hope to continue as one of her patients. read more

I went to Columbia Dental to have a tooth pulled. First, the reception staff was delightful! It's a tough job and while I waited an hour, they were polite, efficient, helpful and friendly. The assistant who took me to a room was also nice. It extremely busy. A woman rushed into the room and stuck something nasty-tasting in to my mouth, complained loudly about all of the patients who's teeth she had to clean (very unprofessional to say anything, let alone complain, in front of another patient, not to mention starting any procedure without introducing yourself). She then left the room as quickly as she entered. I asked who that was and was told it was the dentist, Dr. Tina Liang. Starting to feel a little uncomfortable at this point... About 20 minutes later, Dr. Liang rushes back in, still complaining about 'all the patients who's teeth she has to clean, because her hygienist hadn't shown up, and the next thing i know I'm being stabbed in the mouth with I pretty big needle! It hurt quite a bit and when I let out a noise, I was told to be quiet because there was a 13-year-old girl in the next room having a tooth pulled and I didn't want to scare her. I replied. "Then you shouldn't stick me in the mouth with that thing like I was a pin cushion instead of a person !" "I didn't." she replied with a kind of snotty tone. The second shot was a bit more gentle, but she made up for that with the third one that almost sent me out of the chair and elicited another hearty cry from me. "See. You have an infection there." she said. I know my teeth well and had been to see my dentist 4 days prior and knew I didn't have an infection! I thought of trying to escape, but she was quick; one more shot and she was gone again. As I waited for the Novocain to take affect I tried to stay calm and see things from the perspective of the staff there: it was busy, they were short-handed... Still, you need to consistently act like a professional. Thinking about this, I noticed something funny about my vision; it took me a minute to realize that I couldn't close my right eye. I called out to get someone's attention as my level of anxiety rose. I got no response. I was out of the chair, looking at my eye in a tiny mirror on the wall by the 5th time I had called out "Excuse me?" I finally got a response. I heard Dr. Liang say, from the next room, 'go tell her she's fine' and I said, "I am not fine. I can't close my eye!" The assistant came into the room, I lowered my voice and explained to her that I 1) had several teeth pulled before and this had never happened; 2) had a master's degree in Exercise Physiology so I know how the body works and it's not supposed to do this; and 3) I am a smart person so don't treat me like I'm not. Dr. Liang came back, telling me that my eye being numb was normal - she had used a 'nerve block' and the feeling would come right back and she was gone again. I know what a nerve block is, I had them before; she did NOT give me one. When she appeared in the room again, I repeated the things I said before and that I had specified I wanted to know what was going to be done before and as things progressed. Condescendingly, she said she was going to remove the tooth and as another assistant entered she repeated "She says she's an intelligent person and wants to know everything we're going to be doing." The actual extraction took about 10 seconds. They said I had to wait until my eye was normal before I could drive. After about a half an hour, my eye wasn't really better, but I was not staying there longer. They never asked me if I wanted anything for pain - if they had, I would have said no. I put on my health history that I can't take codeine or anything with aspirin or NSAIDS (Motrin, ibuprofen) All I can take is Tylenol. So they bring me prescriptions for Motrin and Vicodin. I give them back, say I put on my form I can't take these and I'm forced in to a semantics discussion with Dr. Liang over codeine vs. Vicodin, and other drug names, her telling me I should list every drug I can't take... I have never encountered this problem before, and I have been hospitalized 3 times in the past 2 years! Really? I have my fill of this doctor; I take my antibiotic prescription and leave. That is the worst dental experience I have ever had, and I have had plenty, believe me. Very long wait time, unprofessional conduct by one of the main dentists in the office, patronizing attitude toward a patient... and it was all the dentist. The rest of the staff was bearing up remarkably well for the overwhelming number of patients I saw come, stay and eventually go in the approximately 2 or so hours I was there. The way the dental assistants tip-toed around and danced out of the way of the doctor was pretty amazing to watch. They should all be commended for their performance. read more
