How many times have you encountered a specialty store that lived up to your preconceived notions…read moreabout the business, but surpassed those ideas? If your answer is "Never!" or "Not very often!" then I will tell you that I was a member of that club. That was true until today. I have Parkinson's Disease, which affects my gait when walking and erodes the strength in my muscles, especially my legs. However, a friend suggested that I make an appointment at the FootWorks store in Pickerington, Ohio, and just see what they can do for me. She allayed my concerns that they "would only want to sell me orthotic inserts." she told me this store would talk to me about what I needed to ease my pain and suffering, yes suffering. My wife and I made an appointment, and due to a customer cancellation, we were able to get in earlier. So, today we went to the store. Justin, co-owner, greeted us both. Then, he talked to me about my needs. I explained my need to get shoes that fit properly and allowed me to walk safely. My wife and I are participating in "Moving Day" in October, to support the Parkinson's Foundation by fund-raising and walking a full mile course. Even though I have contracted painful cellulitis in my left leg, I am still determined to complete the distance. Justin was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and "willing" to work with me to provide the tools (shoes) to accomplish my personal goal. I knew my own shoes did not fit and caused even more pain and trouble. He measured both of my feet and told me he knew why I was having pain. My own shoe, a size 11, was not the correct size for my feet. I am really a size 12 1/2. No wonder I had blisters, bruises, and my feet hurt all the time! What a relief to hear that something could be done! But, only buying shoes that were my correct size was not the answer. I needed shoes that supported my feet, alleviated some of my pain. Justin showed me several different walking shoes "in my size" that surprised me with how comfortable they were. My walker is used for mobility, and as Justin and my wife watched me walk down the hallway, they remarked about how I was standing taller, my ankles were unlocked but supported and I was not dragging my feet, as I normally walk. (A common characteristic of people with advanced Parkinson's Disease). My belief about any business has always been that "customer service is the hallmark of any company." If you feel the same way, then check out FootWorks where you will be given outstanding customer support and shown quality products for your foot needs. The FootWorks Store is highly recommended by my wife and me. I ordered a pair, but will sadly have to wait till next week to get them shipped to the store. However, I have waited far too long already to get good shoes like these, so one week isn't really that long. Besides, I need to heal from my cellulitis so that I can continue my mile-long walking goal with my team. Maybe I'll see you on Parkinson's Moving Day. We'll likely recognize each other by how comfortably we are walking around on the trail!

There was a large selection which was nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. It also want better crowded which I definitely liked. I found a pair I liked, but they didn't have my size. They said I could buy them online, but they were on clearance in the store and not online. When I asked if there was anyway I could order them in store and have them shipped for the store price, the sales women said they weren't supposed to but talked to her manager who said it was ok. I was appreciative of how accommodating they were. Because of that, I was able to get new boots for a very reasonable price of $40. While I don't like shopping, it was an overall good experience here.

I've bought off their truck, and I think I've been to this location a couple times years ago…read more Redwing makes good boots. They're a little expensive, but they last, and they're comfortable. This time I walked right in at lunchtime, thinking it might be busy but it wasn't. Great service. Got a pair of boots that fit what I need. I found out that they have a good warranty, so that my previous boots can be sent off to their cobbler and repaired so that at least I have a backup pair. There's a reason they've been around a long time. I hope to never need another pair of work boots again, but if I do I'll be back here.

Every time a retro pair drops, he tries to get it. We went here this past Saturday to pick up his shoes. When he opened the box there was a flaw on the shoe (red coloring on the white part of the shoe). He explained the issue to the girl working behind the register and she went and got him another pair. Again, there was something wrong with the shoe (I know eye roll--but seriously when shoes cost $200 they should be good to go). These shoes were worse than the 1st pair. She told him that every shoe is going to have flaws and basically just to suck it up. I understand he may be a little pickier than your normal shoe guy, but at the same time you are selling defective product and maybe your attitude should be directed somewhere other than your customers.

Even when my wife was an employee at a competing outdoor retailer (where I got a discount) I was still shopping online at STP. When I found out they were building a brick and mortar store here in Columbus I was beyond thrilled! As it is part of the TJX companies it still means that the store is a gamble when it comes to brands and sizes found. However, it makes a great starting point as you can easily search their site to see if there are other sizes, colors, etc available. Don't have a tiny pocket computer (aka a smart phone)? There's no need to fret! In store they even have a kiosk where you can search their online stock. My only real dislike of the physical store is that as of right now they do not accept the countless coupons that come to my email address. This may change soon as an employee recently told me that they would start honoring them. Until then, I will still order the bulk of my purchases from the website so I can use the frequent STP coupons. With the store so close it's super easy to return to the store with no hassle. This is extremely helpful when ordering shoes online as some outdoor brands use variations of European sizing that allow for greater fit specification. Recently I ordered two pairs of a boot to see if they would work for my job. Having a low volume super narrow foot they did not but, with the painless returns it was no problem. I even lucked out and found the perfect pair in store!

I lucked out and hit a good sale that allowed me to buy 2 pairs of Asics Gels for less than I pay for one pair at $120 at The running shoe store.
