Gosh this place was delicious. Once you enter, you can automatically get an idea of the vibe of the restaurant. Like you can just tell its family owned and family oriented. It gave it that home-y feel. I came in around 3pm on a saturday and it wasn't that busy, just a few customers here and there. I ordered the pho with rare steak and brisket along with a nice viet coffee with condensed milk. They were very kind and even said the coffee was on them. Im not really sure why but i was just very thankful. The pho was delicious and the perfect size. I was stuffed by the end, wanting to go to sleep hehe. The meat to noodle ratio was great! I was happy to see how much meat goes in one serving. Thank you for a great meal!

Huge portions of meat at this family-owned restaurant make this my new go-to choice for broken rice dishes in the South Sacramento area. Once you step inside, you immediately feel the warmth of a genuine family-run establishment. The food was fresh and the service was friendly without being overbearing which fit the atmosphere perfectly. Tip: Ask for a fried egg!

Simple but consistently one of the best Viet Rice dish (Com Tam) in South Sac. They have over 30 different combinations. If you want it, they will probably make it for you. Service is always friendly and efficient. Parking lot always seems a bit sketchy based on the people walking around. I've only come here during the daytime.

Stopped by for takeout. The shrimp and egg cakes were very fresh on the broken rice dish! Also got the nem nuong spring rolls which if you're wondering the difference between them and Ninh Hoa it's that this restaurant puts fragrant veggies like mint in and the orange sauce is less thick and sweet. Ordered in person and it didn't take long at all. My favorite part is that they packaged it well by separating the components out carefully yay! There's a large lot so parking is not a problem. There is no outdoor seating.

Continuing my Viet food kick, this place looked good and also had broken rice dishes -- which I've been looking for since having some really good ones in San Diego. We ordered a little too much, but the food was so good! The egg rolls have a crispier/airier outside than most places I've been to, but come with a wonderful amount of toppings/wraps -- would be nice to have more lettuce wraps. I liked how HUGE the broken rice plate portions were, and all the flavors on it were so delicious. There was enough food for 2 meals for me. The servers were very attentive and helpful! The inside is pretty simple, with your usual collection of chairs and tables with walls decorated with pictures of various menu items. Definitely plan to come back!

I was starving when I came here, so my review could be slightly biased. The com tam platter was a very generous portion thag my daughter and I had to share, and we still had to pack a bit to go. The fried shrimp cake was super crispy and I loved it. There was also a soup with the rice dish. The pho broth is good, nothing too spectacular. Its good for a raining or cold day. Their nem nuong rolls are great. I really enjoyed their sauce as well. Im a regular her, so the owner is super nice and respectful. There is however a 3% charge for using a cc. Just based upon food alone it deserves 5 stars. It was tasty, plentiful and the variety is . There is nothing fancy about this establishment. It's in an old shopping mall and the inside of the restaurant has seen better days. But it wasn't unkempt & it was clean. There are sauces and plenty of utensils on each table. Waitstaff was efficient - some more pleasant than others. Definitely will plan to return and it's an excellent place to pickup food to go.

Randomly looked up while on the way to Reno. Some really bomb broken rice. I got the number 22a which comes with the pork chop, shredded pork, egg loaf, and fried shrimp cake. The fried egg rolls were also bomb. Great service & we came around 3:30 pm there were a few people dining in. The fish sauce, I wish they would've used a higher quality sauce. It was quite fishy.

The food here is legitimately delicious. We enjoyed the pork chop rice plate, and the shrimp cake with cane was delicious, too. I enjoyed the pho soup combination. The soup was clear, and I liked the variety of toppings. It was a hot meal to enjoy. The XL pho soup bowl was worth ordering if you plan to share. The price was decent for the meal. Really solid cơm tắm spot! Portions were large and decently priced. Nuoc mam could be saltier, it was on the sweeter side, but overall good. I liked their tau hu ky (fried shrimp cake) since the outside was super crispy. The pork chop was well seasoned and crispy. Loved the ton of scallions and that they added 2 bird eyes chili to each meal! Service was good and inside is your typical Vietnamese restaurant vibe.

Went for lunch with a friend on a weekday. The restaurant is simple and relaxing and reminded both of us of the kind of restaurants we visited while growing up. Service to our table was prompt, with our server offering us menus and drinks almost as soon as we sat down. This is a family run establishment and it's really clear they treat their customers with care. I got the #36 noodle plate with beef and egg rolls. Portions were huge and the meat was flavorful. One staff member also gave us a tip on how she likes to eat hers with the fish sauce provided at each table. One surprise was the mint included in the vegetables under the noodles, which was refreshing and cut the heaviness of the beef and noodles. Great food at a great price!

The service was great - the owner was so friendly and nice and even brought us extra broth for our Pho when he saw that we were sharing. This place is awesome, friendly services and good prices. I went last weekend to visit my in-law who are Caucasian, I placed five orders "Pork chops with Crispy Shrimp cake" (Suon Nuong and Tau Hu Ky) over rice. My in-laws usually don't eat Vietnamese foods but this time they all said.....wow..wow...the foods were fantastic. Even my son who are 4 years old usually very picky, but this time he ate almost a whole order himself...:-).. I don't know what others people think and said about this Restaurant, but I have been eaten at San Jose "Com Tam Dat Thanh" near McLaughlin and Tully for over 25 years and I'm surprise this place is better than the one in San Jose. I don't usually write review but I have to because they deserved it. read more

My new favorite place for com tam! I ordered the special com tam #5 (I think?) Every little aspect and detail of the dish that I ordered were delicious, from the pork, the shrimp skeweres, meatloaf with egg, shrimp cake, shredded skin. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Really just thinking about it, makes my stomach growl lol. Anyways, I really want to come back to try the other items that they have, the bun thit nuong, pho, bun Bo hue, etc. Service was really good. Attentive and speedy. I'd come back in a heartbeat if I didn't live far. But I'll stop by when I'm in the area. read more

We came here with a large group--16 of us. Everything is authentic and fresh. Meats were seasoned and grilled well. Generous portions. The waiter helped with suggestions. They were willing to split the bill between the four families. You can get a stamp card if paying by cash. read more

I actually couldn't tell you about the food because I have celiac disease, meaning I have to eat a gluten-free diet, and they had no idea what gluten was at first, and then couldn't confirm what went into some of the dishes, even the pho. Just posting this for other GF eaters out there, so they don't waste their time going based on false reviews. It's super demoralizing to spend hours researching places to eat only to find out you can't actually eat anything and your whole party decides to leave so the GF person doesn't have to sip ice water and smile while everyone else enjoys themselves. :-( Let me say, I normally wouldn't venture into this kind of restaurant without a fluent speaker, as this is mostly a white lady problem, but a Sacbee review AND a Yelp review said they knew what gluten is. Plus, I eat pho very frequently at other restaurants. I figured if I ran into problems with the grilled meat, I could always fall back on the pho but that wasn't possible tonight. My husband had the pork skin spring rolls and thought they were good. He travels to Vietnam for work and is familiar with tasty and authentic Vietnamese food. Our server was nice, tried to accommodate me, and was apologetic when he figured out they didn't know all of the ingredients in anything. read more

One of our favorite restaurants for Vietnamese food in Sac. It's family operated and service is so fast and genuine. The food tastes authentic, clean, and flavorful. Prices are extremely reasonable, the special broken rice plates are $3-5 LOWER than Com Tam Thien Huong! Their meatballs in the Pho is homemade, none of the processed stuff. Their chao long (porridge with innards) has homemade sausage and is one of the best tasting bar none in the area, I've tried them all. Highly recommended!! read more

Don't let the bars on the windows and doors scare you! This restaurant is brand new and completely remodeled inside. I shop nearby so I've seen how long it took for this place to finally open, and today I saw why! The interior is beautiful and modern looking, not your usual little Saigon pho place. The pho was great - the broth fresh and delicious, a littlw on the sweeter side but nothing a squeeze of lime can't fix. I loved how they didnt spare the greens, i usually have to ask for extra cilantro but not this time - cilantro in every slurp! They sell only one size of pho, and it was on the larger size, so beware when ordering- I would suggest splitting it with a buddy and sharing some appetizers read more

This place was right to eat but nothing special. Food was not fresh and looks nothing like photos online. However DO NOT GO HERE, based on the fact they screwed me 10$. I am white and my Vietnamese boyfriend went to eat with me and he gets real upset when businesses stiff me on price. So to avoid a scene I just swallowed my pride and left a tip like normal. So unless you speak Vietnamese they probably won't do this to you but when you screw me by 10bucks your business can have poor fortune and bad karma forever. read more

I've only been here once so far, but it was delicious! The meat is very flavorful compared to other com tam restaurants around town, tau hu Ky was good too. I had the nem cuon as an appetizer, and it was good with spectacular sauce. The best thing about this place, though, is the bowl of soup that comes with each rice plate. So good and exactly what it's supposed to be! Everywhere else in Sacramento just tastes like boiled water, or too much sodium. There's a com tam restaurant with the same name as this in San Jose, I've been going there since I was a kid. I don't know if they're related and have expanded but either way, I like both places. read more

Tables are arranged in rows so it seems like separate customers may sit at the same table.

My favorite drink option on the menu is of course the Thai tea, but the mango sticky slush and fruit sodas are a close second. I particularly like the way they package the Thai teas with the metal lids, but sometimes they don't always have them available. We also had some dumplings such as Hargow , it was not good , looks and tasted like the ones i buy from the freezer at an Asian grocery store. The edges were dry and hard it seems like it's put in the microwave. I did asked the young lady if the hargow were microwave , she stated it was steamed . She did offer to bring us something else to replace. We opted for the korean mondu , it's at least soft and comes out warm . I honestly wouldn't come back when I am in the area again. I can't see myself spending $ for low quality dumplings.

They did offer rice plates which included rice as part of the price but we did not order the rice plates. After we ordered, we received complimentary egg drop soup to start the meal off. The food came out fairly quickly although they weren't many diners when we got there. We had enough food to take over for left overs! The prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. Every dish we ordered was delicious and the food was not overly salty. When we asked for to go boxes they packed up our food for us instead of us doing it ourselves. The service was attentive. They did forget to bring water for us one time. Overall, I will definitely be coming back to this place again to try more of their dishes!

Dat Thanh serves solid cơm tấm with a wide variety of toppings, so there's something for everybody in the family. Their Tàu Hủ Ký is probably one of the best items on the menu when it comes out piping hot and fresh -- crispy on the outside, flavorful inside, and dangerously easy to inhale before it cools down. Their egg rolls are unique too, not the generic frozen-party-pack kind. Now... the sauce. My dear brothers and sisters in cơm tấm, the sauce is the soul of the dish. Some days it hits just right, other days it feels like the kitchen and the sauce had an argument before service. I usually order to-go and use my homemade nước mắm because I need emotional stability with my cơm tấm. Please fix the sauce consistency -- the food deserves it. I also tried the phở. It wasn't bad, just sweeter than my preference. I lean toward bold, deep, "this broth has seen things" type phở. But honestly, can't fault them for that. Their bread and butter is clearly cơm tấm, not phở, and on the cơm tấm side they do a pretty respectable job. Overall: clean restaurant, good food, good host with warm and respectful service, generous options and portions, and definitely worth returning for when the cơm tấm craving hits. read more
