This place has the best pho broth in the area! It is rich, flavorful and savory. I personally think it's better than Pho Mama and the other pho restaurants in the area. I usually come for lunch and it looks like they've made some changes. Lunch is takeout style but you are able to eat in their restaurant, if desired. Menu is smaller, prices slightly cheaper but also reflected in smaller portions. If looking for full service and larger portions, I would recommend coming for dinner. They also have this ?secret sauce. It looks and tastes like roasted garlic in a red chili oil. It pairs so good with their chili sauce and beef pho. Only negative food-wise was that you have to ask for the pho sides and they only give you a teeny-tiny bit of bean sprouts, basil, and lime and you have to ask for it. And no cilantro is offered. Service was less than stellar. We were there on a weeknight, it wasn't very busy, just a few tables -- but the waitress seemed disinterested in waiting on her tables. A Wonderful hidden gem, in the back of Butterfield Plaza. I tried eating at two other places, and neither worked out. I'm actually very glad for that, because when I found this place? The third time was. *DEFINITELY* the charm. It's just a nice simple place, nothing fancy. The menu is under the glass on your table. I was helped by Nhi, who was so very friendly. At the end of my meal, I mentioned to her that I'm going to Vietnam at the end of February. She asked where I was going, and gave me a couple of hints for a couple of places. That was very nice of her. I started with the Vietnamese crêpes. I didn't notice on the menu that it came with two of them. They came, and they were huge! The crêpes were crispy, and delicious. The shrimp were tender, and I liked the bean sprouts. It also came with extra veggies to put inside. Not knowing I would be getting so much food, at the same time, I also ordered the chicken and rice. Another total home run. The grilled chicken was tender, and it was just so absolutely flavorful. I added a soft boiled egg to the meal. And it provided that wonderful "yolk action" that I love, that drips down into the food. It came with a big portion of tender rice, and also more veggies on the side. Both the crêpes and the main dish came with the traditional Vietnamese condiment, nuoc Cham. Basically, water, sugar, lime juice, and fish sauce. Sweet with a little sour, and the fish sauce, gave it just the right amount of "funk" that I absolutely love. I had enough food to take one of the crêpes and half of my main Dish, Home, and for all of this food, it was roughly $30 before tip. For mains, we ordered the P1 (small, build-your-own pho) with steak, tendon, and meatball, and the P4 Bun Bo Hue. The small pho was surprisingly filling - plenty of noodles and protein, and I left full. The broth was good, though for my personal taste it needed just a touch more seasoning. That said, the grilled onions on top were a really nice touch, and I absolutely loved that they had a proper bottle of nuoc mam out on the table. It's such an underrated condiment and when a Vietnamese restaurant doesn't offer it, I immediately start questioning the integrity - so points earned there. The Bun Bo Hue comes in a large size, and while the portion was generous, the broth leaned a bit sweeter than what I'm used to. The meats were also a touch fatty and long cooked for sure. I usually prefer Bun Bo Hue more savory, especially with a pork-based broth - but hey, there are many ways to shoe a horse, and flavor profiles vary. One thing I must mention: the secret sauce. It's a garlicky, flavorful concoction for the pho, and wow - I should've used it from the start. If you're ordering pho, ask for the secret sauce. It's free and it seriously makes the soup pop. The restaurant itself was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, with attentive and kind service. Parking was easy, which is always a win in Sacramento. Stopped by around 11:00 PM on a weekday so about an hour before closing, and I was surprised there was still a decent amount of customers inside, which is always a good sign. The service was relaxed, I got seated quickly, and the food came out pretty fast. Everything I ordered was really good. Definitely order the egg rolls. They're perfectly crispy, and the filling isn't soggy at all, probably some of the best I've had. I live in the Roseville area, but I'll definitely be making the drive here for late night pho since it's one of the only spots open nearby that serves quality food this late. I ordered the vermicelli with chicken to go. There was a good amount of herbs/greens and fresh vegetable and a sufficient amount of fish sauce to dress everything with. I was a happy camper. This is my second visit after coming here last week. I wanted to try their Banh Mi (pork) and again, am taking out. The sandwich had the great crispy French bread and was full of very flavorful and tender pork. Cucumbers, carrots and greens completed the sandwich. It was not bad but I wanted some other choices that could be added to the sandwich. I would have liked to add some pate to the sandwich. I ordered my default Dac Biet. In terms of the broth, it's run-of-the-mill. I didn't taste any flavor that particularly stood out, which is a shame because the bowl nailed pretty much everything else. The noodle texture felt just right and they added a decent sized portion of proteins. The meatballs tasted the best. This restaurant has capacity for large groups. It falls on the larger end of the spectrum when it comes to personal space and total area. I noted long tables, round tables, and booths that could comfortably accommodate 6-8 people. I stopped at a regular dinner hour, but I'll be saving this spot for a late night run. I read that the owner sometimes experiments with new broth recipes. However, the Bun Bo Hue is not, which was a lil disappointed since I was very excited to eat it. I couldn't taste the any Bun Bo Hue flavor at all. There was no noticeable lemongrass in the soup. I was also expecting "cha lua" or pork blood, but neither was included. Additionally, the vegetables were cooked directly in the soup. Usually, shredded cabbage should be served on the side. On this cold, & wild rain, there's honestly nothing better than a steaming bowl of pho, so we found ourselves back at Pho Viet Anh for round two, tonight. I originally came in fully committed to ordering the Bún Bò Huế (P4), but the moment I heard about the $3.50 giant rib add-on, all bets were off. I switched to the P1 Combo Pho just so I could have that massive, fall-off-the-bone rib soaking in that rich, aromatic broth and it was absolutely worth it. The broth was deeply savory and comforting, layered with flavor without being overly salty, and that rib took things to another level. Tender, meaty, and perfectly braised, it made each bite feel extra indulgent. My boyfriend went with the bánh mì pork sandwich, and we added fried egg rolls for the table. The bánh mì had that perfect balance of crispy baguette, juicy pork, and fresh pickled veggies, while the egg rolls came out hot, crunchy, and packed with flavor. We also got the chance to meet the owner/chef and had such a great conversation, which made the whole experience feel even more personal. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the night. Pho Momma isn't open as late, and I was meeting friends on a Monday night for dinner. Looking at Yelp, we found Pho Viet Anh was open until midnight and also in the Folsom/Bradshaw area. You won't find us in Little Saigon after dark, but to satisfy Vietnamese cravings, this wasn't bad! It is hidden in the back corner of Butterfield Plaza (you can see Doma Korean from the main road) though, and was broken into recently so their main entrance door is boarded. Counter by the kitchen, bathroom on the opposite rear. Big space, tables and cushioned booths, and several TVs with cartoons or music videos/YouTube playing (Adele, Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa, Gotye, Ed Sheeran, etc.). Printed menus under the table glass, and QR codes to scan as well. I noticed that the paper menu did not exactly match the online menu (P4. Bun bo hue was on hard copy but not digital). They also have rice bowls, banh mi, banh xeo, rice vermicelli, vegetarian, "home cooking" beef stew or lemongrass noodles or laap salad, and beverages. We shared one order (4 rolls) of the goi cuon spring rolls with shrimp, and these were pretty good, not overly minty. The noodles were still warm and some of the wrappers broke but that was fine. I didn't see if there was cilantro. The peanut sauce was also not too runny or flat, the shrimp was ok. One person got the iced Vietnamese coffee (they were out of the salted coffee foam). This was a very neat presentation and very strong stuff! One person ordered the P1 Pho (beef rice noodle soup) combination which had combination (steak, tripe, beef meatball, brisket, tendon), no onion. Garnish provided was beansprouts, basil, romaine, jalapeno, lime, perilla and of course sriracha, hoisin, chili, and whatnot. Takeout wooden chopsticks, real forks, plastic soup spoons, and napkins also provided. I got the P4 Bun bo hue soup. The waiter was patient as we were deciding, and assured me it wasn't too spicy, which turned out to be true. The bun bo hue also uses a different thicker, cylindrical more tubular noodle than the pho rice flat noodle. I've seen this dish at other places with the pork blood, but not here. Here though, they did have sliced beef, pork sausage with peppercorn, and pork knuckles! Fried onions on top too. I am curious about their combination pho for next time. Their bowls only come in either size Small or Large, except the bun bo hue was one-size. They don't do bun rieu here. read more

I was surprised that they cut the brisket thick, usually all the pho places I have tried they slice the brisket thin as shabu shabu style and is tough to chew. They have a small menu which I like, but they still offer Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, Chicken Pho, Vermicelli and Rice Bowls as well as unique drinks.
