    Miso and Tonkatsu

I made a reservation for Valentine's Day weekend for 6pm, on the 15th to be exact. The day of the reservation, I received a call from the restaurant to confirm my reservation. We arrived at 5:45pm and our table was ready. We got the AYCE shabu for $41.50 per person. They do offer other options for AYCE and they also offer non AYCE menu as well. For our broth, we got miso and tonkatsu. Quality of food was great. The broth was a bit too salty. There are 2 different dipping sauces. They offer ice cream for dessert at the end. We found it odd that they served ice cream in a really warm bowl. The ice cream was melting. We got green tea and cookies n cream. Both were really good. Services were top notch. We had multiple servers. All were super friendly and attentive. My boyfriend left his credit card there after paying. We were walking to our car and one of the server came after us to give us the card back. We really appreciated it. There are seating indoor and outdoor. Parking is limited in the back. Can park on the streets. This place gets packed so I will recommend making reservations if you can.

Had to come back and update with pictures! We came in two days before Valentine's Day and the interior was decorated with the cutest love themed touches! They were also offering a special holiday appetizer: the A5 wagyu bao, and wow... absolutely worth it. The wagyu was incredibly tender and juicy, and the kimchi and veggies on the side added the perfect crunch and balance. It's $21 for two baos, but honestly worth every dollar. Service was just as impressive as the food. Shoutout to John,Mike and Sally they are always attentive, friendly, and genuinely makes the experience great as always. You can tell they really care about their guests. Can't wait to come back!

I've been coming to Heat Shabu for a long time, and every single time I walk through those doors the staff hits me with that "hi, welcome back" vibe -- the kind of greeting that feels like you've missed your friends all week and you're finally catching up. It's warm, it's familiar, and it's exactly why this place stays on my radar. Came here with friends and had one of those nights that felt like the old days -- laughing, eating, taking our time, and just enjoying being out together. We got the AYCE and went all in... and I mean all in. We ate until we couldn't anymore. The kind of meal where you look around at each other like, "yeah... we're absolutely getting our money's worth." Our waitress was incredible. Attentive, patient, and always checking in on us even though we had her running laps grabbing broth, more meat, more veggies, more sides -- honestly, we ate the house down and she never missed a beat. That kind of service sticks with you. The food here is always fresh, the broths hit just right, and everything comes out clean and consistent. The atmosphere stays calm, cozy, and unhurried -- perfect for long conversations and slow bites. And the owner? Cool as heck. One of those people who sets the tone for the whole place without even trying. Parking can be a little tricky depending on the time, but once you're inside and that pot starts steaming, the hassle outside fades away fast. This is our go-to hot pot spot. Period. We won't eat hot pot anywhere else. Heat Shabu has earned that loyalty with great food, great service, and that welcoming energy that keeps you coming back again and again.

Heat Shabu is definitely up there on my list of best places to eat at when it comes to AYCE hotpot in Sacramento! I want to mention that I've only been to the Fair Oaks location before this, and my friend and I wanted to try the downtown location this time. First, the restaurant is kind of small but when walking in, you are greeted by nice staff and a very simple but aesthetic interior that gives off cool vibes. We sat in the corner by the window and it gave us a nice view of the street. The menu is just like the Fair Oaks' location, same meats and veggie options. We decided to go with our favorite 2 broth combination, which is Tom Yum and Spicy miso. They were both pretty flavorful but the Tom Yum could be a bit more sour in my opinion. We ordered the American Kobe beef, Angus prime beef, Australian lamb and Berkshire pork belly, and they are all very tender and sliced perfectly! I also love that they offer fish balls with roe, and my friend and I are suckers for them! We eat at least 5 servings of it! The service was amazing! Our server was very attentive and came by frequently to check on us and to ask if we wanted to place another order. Like any other hotpot restaurant, you can order 3 proteins and any sides per round. Our wait time between placing orders and receiving them was less than 5 minutes! It was a great experience talking to the staff and eating there, and I would recommend taking your friends and family here if you want to grub and get your money's worth!

I visited Heat Shabu Baru in Sacramento, CA [2416 18th St] on Thursday, 12/18/25, around 9 PM. I opted for the AYCE option. For the broths, I sampled all the flavors on the menu. For this time, I proceeded with the Tom Yum broth & BBH broth. The food items ordered included Mixed Vegetables, Ramen Noodles, Rice, American Kobe Beef, Angus Prime Beef, Australian Lamb, Wagyu Meatballs, Shrimps, etc. The entire hot pot experience was phenomenally delicious. Everything paired so well with both of the flavorful broths. The restaurant's interior was nicely decorated, clean, and inviting. The musical taste was super entertaining (including 90's/00's R&B). The service was attentively outstanding. All in all, I'd return to Heat Shabu Baru in the future. I recommend coming here for the hot pot fix!

This place was very interesting. All the windows were all covered in condensation from the hot pot steam. They use portable propane stoves for some of the tables and I thought it was interesting how you can do hot pot at the bar area. This place gave "eating at your relatives house" vibes. So more of the focus was about the food quality. I liked that they have so many different unique broths to choose from and they even brought out all the broths to sample. The BBH broth was my favorite! The meats here were best I've had so far. HUGE quantities and the slices were thick, especially for hotpot. The prices are expensive so we opted for the lowest tier AYCE. The selection for this was definitely more limited, but regardless it's still a lot of food. At the end we got a complimentary scoop of ice cream, which was a nice way to end the meal.

Good recommendation from a friend! My friend and I went on a weekday evening right after they opened, around 4:50PM. The space itself is on the smaller side with bar seating, and some of the tables were full when we came in. By the time we finished, there were people waiting for our table. We ordered from their à la carte menu. For their broths, we tried the miso and tonkotsu broth. While the miso was okay, the tonkotsu broth was definitely more flavorful and finished by us both. For the shabu meats, we tried the American Kobe Beef and Australian Lamb. I was hoping for more of the lamb taste, and so the beef was my personal favorite. The beef was tender after cooked and went well with the given sauces. We also had extra orders of vermicelli, udon, and fish balls with roe. I loved the fish balls, and it was a good portion size for its price. We also ordered a Shirley Temple, which was refreshing and light between bites. The place is more on the expensive side in my opinion, but the portion size and quality of meat is decent!

Took my daughter to try hot pot for the first time last night and of course, she is now a HUGE fan! I'd been to this place years ago and recalled it being tasty but last night definitely surpassed my expectations. First of all, the service is seamless and a vision of excellent teamwork. Our server Sally was so friendly and so patient when explaining our options. We opted for the all of you can eat so we could get a little taste of everything. We asked for 1/2 orders of everything b/c we're not the biggest eaters and still the portions were so generous. My daughter enjoyed the Kobe beef and ramen the most. I loved it all. The thin slices of pork belly & yummy lamb were my top contenders. The place has both inside and outside seating, it's clean and beautifully decorated. Parking was easy for us but I can see how it could be challenging on a busier night. We can't wait to be back!!

This is one of my favorite hot pot places in the area. They open until 11pm which is a good amount of time. I came around 9pm on a Friday night and they served me right away. They have excellent service and very spacious seating. Shout out to our waitress Taylor with the great service and the rest of the staff. They are very attentive when we had orders. We got the AYCE hotpot and everything was so good. The best part was getting ice cream after! I would definitely recommend anyone who is in the area.

    Wagyu Meatballs BBH and Tonkotsu

Tuesday AYCE includes appetizers (2 apps per round)! I've gone with party of 2 all the way up to party of 6 usually for dinner or special occasions/get-togethers. Street or alley parking isn't too bad. It's easy to make a reservation either by phone, or I prefer DMs through their IG account. Mondays also have Happy Hour all-day and 10% off your bill. I like the BBH (bun bo hue) spicy broth, and the non-spicy tonkotsu (pork bone) broth the most. Also a fan of the American Kobe Beef, Kurobota Pork, Wagyu Meatballs, Fishball with roe, Shrimp. Included are mixed veggies and ramen noodles, and you can add steamed rice. Gunther's ice cream for dessert, so far I've seen green tea and either strawberry or cookies and cream depending on the night. 90 minutes max, everyone must order the same AYCE category, 3 items/round. Have fun Shabubus!

I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday dinner. I've been seeing places like this before and I was always curious how the soups and everything would taste. We had all you could eat per person and the way it works. You pick your meats you pick noodles or rice. There is stuff for a little bit of an up charge that you could add. You choose the broth that you prefer. We had a pretty big party size so we had two hot pots in our table. When we picked our broth, there's two that we could pick per pot. You could control the temperature of the heat of the pot yourself. Once the meats and vegetables and all the goodies come out , you could just start dipping it in there. They also have a nice bar I ended up getting a drink. I do not. remember what it was called, but it was very delicious. The staff was very nice and attentive. I was not sure what drink to get and they created one for me . They also refill your broth and make sure you have enough toppings. They let us bring outside cake to celebrate my friend's birthday. We ended up ordering some ice cream for all of us . So we had cake and ice cream to end the night. Overall, my friend had an amazing birthday dinner. We had a great time together as a group. The food was delicious. Definitely recommend to check this spot out. One thing I recommend is come hungry lol . Perfect for groups .

Loved the broth options deep and flavorful, perfect for hot pot. We tried pretty much every option to offer and favorites were the lamb, beef and wagu meatballs. It was a fairly busy night and staff were very attentive and efficient. It is a cozy spot perfect to enjoy hotpot with family and friends, glad I found this spot on my trip!

Quality over quantity! Selection is limited, but the meat here is quality. Surely the best soup base in town. Better than gogi, seapot & grand. I'm a soup girl, the soup & the meat is right there!

I tried their sukiyaki set, both wagyu and seafood. I wish they had given some instructions on the approach or order I should eat the sets of food. It was a little chaotic trying to figure out how I could submerge all the ingredients in the broth so they would cook evenly. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount.

Long review: I've had this place on my list of restaurants to try for a while now. I love Japanese food, and this establishment has great reviews, so I finally decided to give it a go for Father's Day. They didn't have many reservations open, but managed to fit us in for 1 pm. The parking lot was a bit small, so we ended up parking a couple of minutes down the street. We were greeted by a very friendly host, who graciously allowed me to bring in my $1 Jamba smoothie to the table (National Smoothie Day) and tossed the trash I was holding. The seats and table were clean and neatly set up. The menu was only two pages, which I prefer since it makes it easier for me to settle on something. We started with a BBQ albacore, which came at a nice medium cook with 6 decently sized pieces, and a heavy hand of micro cilantro (love veggies). My husband and I split a sesame chicken entree. The ratio of the deep fry to actual meat leaned toward the deep fry, but the flavor was there, and the side salad came with what I believe is an appropriate amount of dressing (I'm used to Japanese restaurants barely giving any dressing). The miso soup was standard and not too hot upon arrival. The Salmon Lovers roll my husband ordered was pretty good. I think it could've gone with a little less sauce since the crab mix, garlic sauce, and spicy mayo hit the same flavor profile, but the lemon zest really brought in some brightness to cut into the creamy ingredients. I was very happy with my Tsunami roll. It had the same lemony pop with the zest, came with a more modest amount of micro cilantro (wouldn't have minded the amount we got with our appetizer, though), and featured escolar (butterfish). I don't see this fish very often on menus, and its buttery texture against the crispy shrimp tempura was just amazing. Lastly, I felt the rolls were a great size. The ones we ordered were cut up into 12 pieces, so they seemed to last a while between the three of us. We left stuffed, and my dad loved the place. Also, it didn't burn too big of a hole in my wallet (~$130 for an appetizer, two entrees, and two rolls, after a 20% tip). Father's Day success!

This time they sat us where all the chefs were making the dishes, so I finally saw how they make ngiri. There is 1 guy who makes it and I didn't like how he would make the ngiris but was not served asap. He would make about 3 sets at a time or some thing like that. The time from when it's made and time where it's served is too long. That is why the fish is warm by the time it got to us. Also, we didn't see a fridge where he was making it but it could be underneath around his leg area. I'm a little disappointed. From all the sushi documentary's I've watched, this is not how it's suppose to be. I regret ordering the Ngiri Mix again cause the fish was warm. Same like last time! I read other reviews where people have said the quality is going down. Even though, I am not a regular here, I can kinda tell that it is. My favorite are ngiri's and it doesn't beat Kura's ngiri's right now. Kru just give's bigger portions but the quality of Kura's is superb! Shiozake Salmon $26+ Springtime congee, furikake, truffled English peas, basil oil, and pickled radish. - DELICIOUS. Crispy salmon skin, tender and butter-y salmon, congee does have a springtime taste and is the perfect texture. Every ingredient complimented each other. Would love to squeeze a little lemon to cut out the fatty taste at the end. From our experience, all the specials have been a hit! Ibérico Kashira Kushiyaki $16+ Den miso tare, basil-mint pistou, grilled lemon - SO-SO. Pork was tender but was wayyy too salty. Kru's ambiance is dark, chill environment with lights shining down on where it matters like the food and selfie pics lol. It can get loud when it get's busy. Mos def chiq and aesthically pleasing. Every little detail from the ceiling to the floor, table setting, mural, bathroom, and even menus were all BEAUTIFUL! SPECIAL SHOUT OUT: To all the resto staff that helped us for both nights. You guys are amazing! Friendly, awesome smiles and knowledgeable. Thank you for your top notch hospitality. Our server from our recent dine in gave us a complimentary drink to toast for our Wedding Anniversary: 1 non alcohol rosé for me and I forgot the other drink he gave for my husband. VERY SWEET OF HIM.. much love.. Grateful for our food and for every one. More blessings and abundance for all of us. Happy Eat's ya'll =)

I love this…read moreplace for its consistently relaxed and inviting ambiance--it's the perfect balance of casual and special. The food is exceptional every time. The fish is incredibly fresh and prepared to perfection, and the service is truly outstanding. Our server was courteous, knowledgeable, and attentive--what really stood out was that they remembered my gluten intolerance and proactively provided gluten-free soy sauce, which I greatly appreciated. We started with the spicy garlic edamame, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. My friend ordered the chicken teriyaki with wings, and I had the chirashi don paired with soothing Japanese green tea--everything was beautifully prepared and satisfying. To top it off, the restaurant treated my friend to a complimentary Mille-Crêpe cake for her birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. I consistently order the red bean panna cotta since it's GF--light, refreshing, and the perfect ending to the meal. This continues to be my go-to spot when I'm looking for a consistently excellent dining experience. Highly recommend!

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more Would I come back? Yes, friendly service. They can accommodate their broths for vegetarians. If you can handle it, always ask for a medium spice level. Tips for first-timers: 1) Plenty of free parking 2) They accept reservations The Food: Vegetable Tempura ($18.95, Grade A): I like how they cut the vegetables--not too chunky. There is nothing worse than a chunky carrot that isn't cooked to its core. The tempura batter doesn't pull off when you bite into it, and it isn't oily at all. Yasai Ramen ($17.95, Grade A): Asked for a water broth to make this safe and vegetarian-friendly. You would think it would be tasteless, but it was surprisingly packed with flavor. The medium spice level definitely helped, but even for people sensitive to heat, this would be a tasty dish. It says water-based, but it still has a deep, eye-appealing dark color. The noodles have a great bite. Not overly mushy. And they stay that way for the entire meal. Broccoli, zucchini, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, and cabbage. The cubed tofu is fresh and wasn't spoiled which often happens with tofu in restaurants that a lot of people don't order daily. Jungle Roll ($14.95, Grade A): Avocado and cucumber, topped with a seaweed salad. Most Japanese restaurants fail to understand that vegetarians also want a fun roll! We asked if they could include a vegetable tempura inside the roll so there would be a good textural component, and added a drizzle of teriyaki and spicy mayo. Good news--they were able to do it, though having to check with the sushi bar is always an adventure ($1 extra for each request). Sidenote: Why do all Japanese restaurants need to ask the sushi bar? One-hundred percent of the time, we eagerly have to wait for the sushi court to give a "rolling." (Ruling if that was too vague). The rolls are made fresh and many meat-based rolls include a tempura element rolled inside. I could understand if we're asking to deep fry the roll, but just adding a tempura and a drizzled sauce? Ok, hopping off my soapbox. Bottom Line We've been coming to this place on and off for over ten years. It's been at least 2 years since our last visit, and there are some noticeable changes. Portions are smaller; the ramen bowls used to be the size of a food challenge. The restaurant itself is looking older and not quite as cared for, but the flavors remain excellent and the friendly, attentive service is completely unchanged.

My friend watched the waitress stack the 5 trays and left to process payment. Waitress returned and told them she was missing one payment. The party insisted that they all paid. The manager came to the table and told them they had to pay before they leave. Again, the party insisted they all paid. One of the ladies asked,"Are you saying that we're lying? There's security cameras in this room. Go review the footage and you can see the proof that we all paid and the waitress took the trays." Apparently the security cameras weren't functioning as he wouldn't look at the footage. The manager wanted to charge the missing payment to the person who used a charge card for her payment and the group told him that was not acceptable. The dispute went on for 30 minutes and customers at a near by table kept turning around and looking at us. The manager stepped away again and returned shortly with the missing payment saying that he found it under the cash register! There was no true apology, no effort to compensate the group for the embarrassing behavior and accusations. Clearly it was the waitress' mistake and she didn't apologize to the group. This is unacceptable behavior from the manager. Knowing this happened yesterday, I will no longer dine at Akebono. Very poor customer service.

It's the kind of place that quietly becomes your favorite before you've even finished your first dish. ‍ Service That Feels Like Home From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, enthusiastic "Irrashaimase!" The hostess was exceptionally engaging--personable without being overbearing--and guided us through the sake menu like a seasoned sommelier of umami. Her thoughtful recommendations led us to a beautiful tasting journey featuring three types of sake: * A classic hot sake for comfort, * A crisp cold sake imported from Japan, and * A smooth and unexpected bottle from Vernon, CA (yes, Vernon--who knew?). Although the tall glasses were emblazoned with Orion Beer branding, we stuck to the sake. No regrets. What We Ate -- A Love Letter to Flavor Every dish was visually stunning and bursting with freshness. Here's what we devoured: * Truffle Hamachi Carpaccio: Thin slices of hamachi bathed in a rich truffle soy, topped with microgreens and salmon roe. Silky, aromatic, and sublime. * Shishito Peppers: Perfectly blistered and dusted with spice. A simple dish that delivered big on smoky flavor. * Sake Nigiri & Tobiko Gunkan: The sake (salmon) nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and the tobiko gunkan had just the right briny pop. Clean, classic, perfect. * Negihama Roll: Yellowtail and scallion in delicate harmony--refreshing and elegant. * Spicy Tuna Roll: A fiery flavor bomb, dusted generously with shichimi. Spicy but well-balanced. * Jade Roll: Wrapped in seaweed salad and sesame, this one was fresh, crunchy, and full of herbaceous notes. A standout roll. * Cucumber Sunomono: A palate cleanser and a beautiful contrast to the richness of the fish. Light, crunchy, and seasoned just right with sesame. Ambiance Kumi Sushi's atmosphere is refined but intimate--dim lighting, soft jazz playing in the background, and warm wood tones throughout. It's got date-night vibes without trying too hard. Final Verdict Kumi Sushi is everything you want in a neighborhood sushi spot--just elevated. Thoughtful service, stunning presentation, fresh ingredients, and a sake list that deserves its own night. Whether you're a seasoned sushi snob or just looking for a delicious evening out, this place delivers. 11/10 would truffle hamachi myself into oblivion again. Highly recommended.

Sake (Salmon) Nigiri was excellent in freshness, presentation, and extra effort preparation. The rice is unique too. Great quality overall 2. Hamachi Kama was fresh and comes with a nice side salad. The dip was great and I asked for a side of daikon (which is common for this dish, but you will have to ask for it here). 3. Bento box was excellent with chicken katsu and sesame chicken Meh 4. Crab fried rice... oddly includes crunchy bits of rice (none of us liked that element). Crab was fresh, but the dish tasted very oddly bland. We will be back to try more of their dishes with our great first experience.

The interior has been redone, and it feels lighter and a little bit more Restaurant. As a heads up, they've only been open for about 7/8 months and don't really have an established happy hour yet, but I understand that they are working on creating one! They have a pretty extensive sushi menu, and you may get lost in all of the choices, and there are many delicious ones that I definitely want to go back and try! One of my Foodie friends, and I decided to start out with the spicy edamame. It definitely would not be a choice for either one of us. We found that the edamame was not completely boiled, and the spicy seasoning while poured on top, definitely would've been more enjoyable if the edamame had time to marinate in it. Overall, we didn't really care for its flavor or spice level. The assorted tempura was pretty tasty! The batter is light, and the veggies and shrimp are delicious. The dipping sauce was pretty mid-level and I would've enjoyed something with more flavor and something that would've enhanced the tempura. The Hinoka roll was larger than I anticipated, which is always a good thing, and I ordered this based on the recommendation of the waitress. The roll was mid-level. Not absolutely fabulous, but not horrible either. They are very light handed on the sauce on top of the rolls, and I did request some Unagi sauce, which definitely helped to elevate the flavor profile We both loved the way the Nigiri was presented, and definitely made for fun conversation. The Nigiri is pricey, and was tasty. Naoki definitely should be given grace since they are newer. The staff is pretty attentive, and I'm hoping that they find their groove in our community They have their own parking lot with free parking, which is always a plus when you're in or near the downtown/Midtown area. Check them out and don't forget to order the tempura!
