This is one of our favorite places to eat in Ruidoso! As you walk in you're greeted by both owners, they're so freakin nice, and the restaurant is welcoming and cozy. Usually we eat lunch here a couple times a week either in-person or through delivery app. My go-to meal is the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. I always have at least one fajita to take home w a little rice & beans, the portion size is great! I also like their daily specials; one was a taco, enchilada and flan and one was guacamole tostada, enchilada and flan - great meals and the flan is delicious. My niece likes to make her own combo, she's enjoyed the chimichanga, enchiladas and tacos. Their salads are great too! We've tried them all and like them all. Meals all come w chips and salsa which is lovely and the salsa is great. If you're looking for a lunch spot while visiting Ruidoso I recommend you stop at Comal! Not sure how this place has a 4.4 rating. Right when you walk in you see the dirty kitchen. The guy cooking and coming to tables is a complete jerk (pretty sure that's the owner) and nobody carries a smile. If you're so miserable then why have a restaurant where you have to deal with people? Food is not great. Not sure how they're open. Can't say anything good about this place. For the ski town being a tourist trap, this modestly decorated with "recuerdos" from various towns in Mexico and even a Machete from the DR is enough to tell someone that this place is there to deliver. This mom and pop operation is perfect to satisfy your hunger! The owner was very friendly and welcoming, their plates were flavorful and generously portioned. My kids had the quesadillas and bean and cheese burrito plates which were both pretty big. My the wife had the aromatic chicken fajita plate that was big enough to feed two people. I asked for the house special to be able to try a variety of things to include the chimichanga, chicken enchilada and taco. All were very flavorful. *Note, you are in New Mexico after all so be mindful that some dishes bring the heat in their sauces and salsas so ask the server before you order. This is clearly one of the best Mexican restaurants in Lincoln county! This establishment rivals some of the eateries we have visited in Santa Fe! The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and with Covid, they have had to scale back their hours of operation, but nonetheless, it's a welcome delight to be able to enjoy a meal there with friends and family! I had the taco salad with steak, and it had the greens, cheese, tomatoes, guacamole, and the best marinated steak I had had in quite sometime. I will definitely be ordering this again the next time we return. My husband ordered ground beef enchiladas with their signature red sauce, and again, it never disappoints! It was delicious. My daughter ordered the cheese quesadilla and it was bubbled over filled with asadero cheese. It looked delectable! They follow safety protocols by spacing all parties at tables over six feet apart, and the wait staff is extremely attentive. We had our drinks topped off numerous times. If you are in Ruidoso this restaurant is a must stop by place. If I could rate it more than a 5 I would! First off, our server Norma is so sweet. When we asked what mole sauce was made of she explained it and went above and beyond by giving us all little samples of the mole sauce(it was delicious!). Also there salsa is SO GOOD!!! I don't know what they do differently but their food is superior to all of the other Mexican cuisine restaurants. Overall we had absolutely no complaints about anything and it's a great place to grab a bite if you are passing by or in Ruidoso. P.S. Some of there food is veryyy spicy (like burn your tongue off fiery) so if you have a low spice tolerance like me just ask Norma and she will tell you some great dishes to try. 10/10 read more

Very good, authentic Mexican food. I'm giving it 4 stars because I felt like I didn't get enough food for what I paid. With that said, it was very good. The green chile relleno was flavorful, but could've had a bit more filling. My wife had the red chile enchiladas and they were excellent. This is a little mom and pop restaurant. Other reviewers who emphasized the authenticity are correct. This is not pre-made, frozen food that they are simply heating up for you, as is so often the case. With the exception of the chips, I think everything we were served was made from scratch. The salsa is good but not great. The guacamole is excellent. The beef fajitas are a good choice. You can tell the flour and corn tortillas are made on site.. The beef and grilled onions came out on a sizzling skillet and were done right. My wife ordered the Mexico City tacos. They were a little bland, but that is how many authentic Mexican dishes are. I would have given this restaurant 3-1/2 stars, but I was not given that option. If you don't try anything else, try the guacamole. read more

Went here on a recommendation and it was tough to find. Was smallish but not crowded when I was there on a Sunday. I had comal enchiladas which had beans, onions, and cheese with beans and rice. The enchiladas were amazing, the sides were small but sufficient. The salsa was a bit odd tasting to me, I never did decide if I liked it. Can't put my finger on why it tasted different. We stumbled across this little restaurant on a Wednesday night during the off season. Most businesses close down early and we walked in right at closing time. The sweet owner said he would "take care of us" and proceeded to stay open late for us. As a native Texan who can eat Tex-mex for every meal I can be pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. Comal did not disappoint! The green sauce that comes on many of the items was excellent and the service was incredibly quick. We could even see the owner in the kitchen making all of our meals. The food (I can specifically speak for the Comal Enchiladas) was excellent! If you're into local places and friendly people, definitely check out Comal! It's the real deal. read more

Please do yourself a favor and don't ever come here. First of all the place was dirty , bathroom , the kitchen is visible when you enter and it doesn't look clean whatsoever. The ground beef all had absolutely no flavor (besides a slight metallic flavor ). Nachos are not even nachos you get 4 chips LITERALLY. My water had more flavor than anything else. We were drawn by the great reviews to Comal but came away extremely disappointed. We ordered fajitas, chili rellenos and enchiladas. Despite being the only customers in the restaurant, our service was slow. The rice was actually *crunchy* it was so under cooked and it had no flavor. The refried beans were barely warm and flavorless. The fajitas were tough and had no seasoning. The fajitas were served with tortillas that must have been old because they were hard. The enchiladas were okay but the chili rellenos were deep fried and gooey. I assume that the raving reviews are from friends and family of the business. Comal has a nice outdoor eating area that looks like it is shared with other adjoined business. It is very pleasant to look at, made even better by the lovely weather that day. The food was OK, nothing special, but the service was! Our waitress was very attentive and the food was served quickly. We were surprised that they don't have margaritas, since that drink is so often served with Mexican food, but not a big deal for us. The only real complaint I have is the parking - very small lot shared with other businesses, and the spaces are difficult to get in and out of. There is some street parking, though. read more

First I'm from houston Texas and have access to a lot of great Mexican food!! This was the first place we came to on my recent trip into town. I grew up coming to Ruidoso and this was my friend trip in 11 years... This place was the most bland Mexican food I have ever had. There was no seasoning, no flavor nothing. While the food it's self wasn't bad.. There was really nothing exciting about it. Throughout the weekend we got to eat at some great places and for a place that uses green chills on everything this place just had no flavor. And the ice tea was gross! Loved the staff, loved to see the cook/owner run back to his house in the back yard and bring more food over (obviously there is cooking going on over in that kitchen too) which just reminds me that im helping a family run establishment stay in business when i eat here. Amazing food! We visited on a Saturday when everything else was either packed or closed. I only give 4 stars bc the gentleman who sat us & cooked our food also waited on us & was not very friendly at all. Maybe I'm used to Texas where service is always super friendly? Anyways, the street tacos are to die for, Monterrey chicken was very good & my parents enjoyed their pick 3 with enchiladas & a relleno. I wish they at least had beer or margaritas (I mean, it's Mexican food) but everything was great from salsa to meals. We will definitely go back & just hope for better service. read more

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday after seeing so many reviews only to be disappointed. They brought out complimentary chips which were stale. We were so excited when we finally got our food and the rice was crunchy, like it had been sitting out for a while and the beans tasted like they came from a can. My boyfriend ordered the mole, which was even more disappointing. He would describe it as a chicken breast with a melted chocolate snack pack poured on top. Surprised there isn't already a review for this place here as it comes up on another rating site as the current #3 restaurant in town. In any case our experience there was positive. First, they do have outside seating in the back and they are dog friendly (major important with us when traveling with dog). There is a way to get through the little shopping plaza with said pup without going thru the restaurant and you will find yourself in a lovely quiet green garden area. But really it is about the food and our limited experience makes us eager to return to Ruidoso to try more from the menu. First for us they keep the menu small enough the do what they do well and second they actually have a few things that don't seem to be on most other New Mexican Mexican menus - a few items that are actual Mexican style food. The mole was a real pleasure after the usual option of red or green. The stunner for us was the Burrito - they do a chicken but there is also a 'chicken or steak' burrito on the menu. The difference is the second option was grilled chicken (or steak) with peppers (somewhat fajita style) the flavor of the grilled chicken was amazing!!! The guacamole was truly fresh and very good, the beans were just ok and the rice a bit mushy which would be our only complaint. The main part of our meal was the best Mexican food we have had since moving to New Mexico nearly 2 years ago. Price very reasonable with portions quite generous and an offer of extra chips and salsa when we finished ours before the meal come. Being able to get a beer or wine would be a nice plus but really we would rather have a good meal with iced tea than a bad one with booze. read more
