I developed Ludwig's Angina, a fast-moving, hard-to-treat, and potentially deadly infection after getting two dental fillings with Coleman Eich on 11/2/23. I had to undergo emergency surgery and spent five nights in the hospital. Coleman Eich injected me with two shots of novocaine and started drilling after only a few minutes. I raised my hand as I could feel the drilling, but he injected me two more times with novocaine and started drilling again. When I raised my hand again, he used another injection device to inject the novocaine downwards towards the root of my tooth. He stated that he hardly ever injects novocaine in this way, in the final location. A decent dentist would have waited for the novocaine to kick in, instead of injecting me 5 times! It takes about 20-40 minutes for novocaine to fully kick in. Coleman Eich's schedule was more important to him than his patient. He was hitting his tools against my other teeth while working, and he was overall careless and aggressive. I went to Coleman Eich's office unannounced on 11/10/23 because I was in pain. I had visible swelling. I told his staff that I felt assaulted by his aggressive approach to my mouth. The other dentist in his office saw me and told me to wait ten more days. If antibiotics had been prescribed at this point, I might not have developed Ludwig's Angina. On 11/18/23, I went to Longmont's UC Health Emergency room, but the doctor dismissed the dangerous situation I was in and assumed that I was looking for pills, but wrote me a script for antibiotics. On Sunday 11/19/23, Coleman Eich met me at his office to take x-rays. He didn't see any sign of infection and referred me to some endodontists. The next day, I went to see an endodontist who could fit me in immediately. I could barely drive myself to the appointment. My mouth was swollen shut. The endodontist also saw no signs of infection on a 3D x-ray. I told her I planned to go to the ER, she also advised me to go to the ER. I went to the Boulder's BCH ER, and they immediately wheeled me into emergency surgery. I was being asked about the dentist who had treated me as my condition was so severe! I spent five days in the hospital on IV steroids and saline solution, and my blood was tested regularly for infection, even at night while I was sleeping. I had to have the infection removed through an incision in my neck and inside my cheek. I lost a lot of weight as a result of this ordeal. The infection was caused by bacteria from Coleman Eich's office that entered my body due to his careless and lazy approach to injecting the novocaine. I saw a local endodontist six weeks and ten weeks after my surgery to check on my teeth. Remarkably, the teeth themselves did not become infected and will be okay. Our best guess is that I got a needle-track infection from the novocaine injections. Only 15% of Ludwig Angina cases happen for reasons other than an infected tooth, I fell into that 15%. Boulder Community Hospital tested a sample of my infection, which was likely caused by staph bacteria. I am a young and healthy mother who almost lost her life due to negligence by a dentist. It has been a traumatic experience, and I am grateful to be alive. I hope my story will help raise awareness about the importance of proper dental care and the potential dangers of careless dental practices. read more

I went there to have an extraction of a tooth.I left with one 2by2 gauze on a bleeding mouth without more to get me home. The pain was bad,so I went to the pharmacy to pick up pain meds. The pharmacist had to provide me with tissues as I was bleeding! My shirt was ruined by blood stains. I was not provided with any instructions of how to care for my extraction. I returned for my appointment and have a reminder card with the date and time of my followup appointment and was told they have no record of it. RUN! COLEMAN EICH IS A TERRIBLE DENTIST. I have worked for many years in the legal field, am I personally preparing a law suit against him, so I will not share too many details here. I write this review in hopes that it will reach, and save, at least one person from getting into Coleman Eich's chair. Coleman Eich will seem knowledgeable and intelligent. You will like what he has to say about flossing, and being conservative. It will not be until he actually does work on you, that you will find that he is VERY ROUGH with your teeth. Coleman Eich does not have the right touch, and actually hands on skill to be working with any teeth. He is missing a ship, regarding be careful with teeth, when he has his tools in his hands. What you will find, is this rouge, barbaric 'touch' that Coleman Eich has, will actually damage the longevity of your teeth, even when just getting a filling. He will fill your tooth fast and hard, he will not take his time to be careful and make sure what what he is drilling, and how much he is drilling. You will find that he gives filling that are far bigger than necessary. He also does not wait a reasonable amount of time for Novocaine to kick in. His solution? Shoot you up some more, and wait no minutes for it to kick in. I have spoken to two other former patients who all agree the Coleman Eich was rough with their teeth. I also have evidence that he advised a woman to get twice as many filling than she needed, and then half of them failed, leading to larger problems, damage to the teeth, greatly impacting their longevity. She has had a differing dentist tell her to this, after looking at her x-rays and reviewing what Coleman Eich did. all the while talking about being conservative. Coleman Eich forces perfectly good, healthy teeth to their demise, just because he can't slow down to be careful. He will say that, sometimes that happens. Sometimes fillings fail. But, it's his barbaric touch that does it. I hope this can save one person's teeth from this fate, and the fate of the other person I've spoke to. Now I know, that ANY positive reviews Coleman Eich has received has been either from friends and family, or from people who managed not notice, or experience what he really does. If you are reading this, and you end up going to Coleman Eich anyway, please don't ignore your intuition. If he has already started drilling, and you get those warning signs that his technique is poor, you notice him hitting equipment into your front teeth, you CAN stop the procedure. If you find yourself asking, "is this normal," please do not freeze and talk yourself into finishing. Get up, and get out of there. Get to a different dentist while the novocain is still in effect. I really wish I had done this. I learned a great deal from this. The PTSD will stay with me for life. PS - There are many questions that webMD asked me about: scheduling, answering questions, etc., where I would not give 1 star. I point this out, because there's a lot of ways in which how poor of a dentist Coleman Eich is, is hidden.... until he is actually doing the work on you with his hands. Many years ago I went to this Comfort Dental when a crown fell off (on a Friday of course). The dentist got me in after 6:00 and set the temp and I had a new crown in a week which is still holding strong today. If you want frills, etc, this is not the place. There was very little prep, no pain and my new teeth feel and look great. So excited, also cost about 1/2 the money of going to another dentist in Boulder. My previous dentist fitted me with an old-fashioned metal "clunker" of a partial--it never did fit right, yet the dentist did not send it back to the lab (when you bite with a partial in your mouth, your bite should be identical as when it's OUT of your mouth. I constantly bit down right ON the partial, and I'm thankful I went to another dentist, who confirmed that the partial did not fit. There was also a gap between the metal plate and my palate). I went to Comfort Dental and was fitted with a MUCH CHEAPER (and much more COMFORTABLE!) Valplast flexible partial, which I LOVE! That's because I've had some bad experiences at other franchise dentists who thought they could scare me into replacing all my fillings, to up-sell me from their low cost new customer specials. So when my last good old fashioned dentist retired, I was cautious. My boyfriend has had good experience with his Comfort Dental dentist in Westminster, and he knew about a dentist in this Boulder office. So I called. The dentist I wanted had moved away, but the receptionist assured me that the remaining dentists would take care of me. I saw Dr. Yates this morning and we had a frank and open talk. I was impressed at his openness right away. He pointed out that I have some old fillings that could cause problems, but didn't try to push me into anything. Instead, we are going to watch them. I decided to get their discount plan, as it's a lot less than a monthly insurance premium. I look forward to seeing how we work together long term. The staff was very nice and welcoming. It's not a fancy office, which is fine. I don't go for those, anyway! I'd rather they keep a rational price than get fancy and charge more! One thing I'll mention is that I assumed their new patient exam included tooth cleaning. It doesn't. It includes xrays, but not the cleaning. So, don't be surprised. Helped me out in a big way! I went to a different dentist to get a crown put on. It felt great when I left that dentist, but after the numbing started wearing off it became clear that the crown was too big and was rubbing against the other teeth and putting me into a lot of pain. Unfortunately, I was leaving town early the next morning for two weeks worth of work travel and my current dentist was already closed for the day. I called Comfort Dental (because they're open until 7:30pm) in a panic to see if someone was available to shave off part of my crown so it wasn't rubbing. To my delight, they were able to fit me in. Even though I think its very out of the ordinary for them to just fix someone's work without any xrays, etc, Dr Ben (I can't remember his last name) sat me down and drilled part of the crown off that was rubbing. The dentist and girl at the front desk were super helpful and professional. After he shaved off part of the crown, I felt like a million bucks and he only charged me $20! Seriously it was a super nice thing for them to do and it really changed the way that I felt for the next two weeks. I'll definitely be going to them the next time that I visit a dentist. Oh Comfort Dental... When I first moved to Boulder I was recommended this dentist by a few coworkers of mine - they all had very nice things to say so I decided to check it out. Went in, the prices were great the consultation went well and everything seemed like it would be all great... During my initial cleaning I realized that I never saw the actual Dentist (Dr. Sousa) and that everything was being done by an assistant, and looking around realized that there were other people experiencing the same situation I was (about 5 other patients). I was told that I would need a root canal and a crown, so I made my appointment and was on my way. When I came in for my root canal and temporary crown, I thought for sure I'd see the dentist.. and I did - but only for the actual root canal portion. All of the post and pre work was done by a dental assistant (including the shots) and my temporary crown was made and put in by an assistant as well. At this time I specifically asked for a gold crown and they said they would put in the order. So, I get the call the crown is in and head there to get this all wrapped up. The crown is porcelain. I bring this up to the assistant who lets me know that they made the decision for me that I should have porcelain instead of gold. I asked if i could re-order a gold one to which I was told that I would then have to pay for both. I decided to just get this one installed. Once again the whole procedure was done by an assistant, no DR in sight. The assistant got the bite all settled and it ground down to the right place I payed my (very reasonable) bill and headed on my way. Fast forward about a year. I started getting pain in my crown so i told my new dentist. He re did the bite test and found that it was sitting to high! My crown had to be ground down so there is no longer any porcelain showing on the bite part of the tooth, it is now exposed steel. When the assistant put my crown on my tooth was not ground down enough / the crown was to big, causing my discomfort and now... I have to have the crown redone. I've learned a valuable lesson from this place, you get what you pay for. THANKS COMFORT DENTAL! read more

Comfort Dental lied to me about the treatment I needed and billed it to my insurance and to me personally without being able to show me why they were billing or what the costs came from: My dental insurance was ending due leaving a job and I couldn't get a last minute appointment anywhere but here. I had no pain in my teeth and had never had a cavity but was told I needed a root canal and that I had periodontal disease so I needed additional treatment for that. Not only was this the worst dental experience I have ever had, it cost over 1200 dollars and would have cost almost 2000 had I not refused the bogus treatment. BEFORE the procedure they quoted me at 1200 dollars. I sent a text to my parents out of grief but ended up deciding it was worth the money and agreed I would pay. AFTER the procedure, my bill was presented as handwritten notes on a printed paper from my insurance company, which didn't add to the sum they were asking me to pay. I asked them to add it again, and again it didn't add up, but the doctor insisted it was correct. I asked to see the breakdown a third time, the doctor (female) actually told me that I had "been nothing but rude since the moment I walked in the door" and told me they were doing me a favor. I had already had the work done, so I paid the bill but apparently had to come back for the "periodontal" work, they had completed one side (and charged both me and my insurance company) but not the other side. On Day 2: I was given a new bill (different from the previously agreed to sum) and protested by showing the text message with the quoted price. The doctor again said that was not the price, proceded to hand write the bill three times, each time with different numbers and adding to different sums. After trying to make sense of the bill, I refused to pay, refused the additional periodontal work (and 400 dollar price tag), refused the "cleaning" and left the building. One year later, once I got insurance again, I went to a new dentist in Denver (Quebec Square Family Dentistry - did a fantastic job) and they explained my gums have no sign of periodontal disease (which generally is VERY rare for a person in their 20s) and that my teeth and gums look fantastic and I have 0 cavities (as usual). read more

My first visit, they didn't clean my teeth, they only did x-rays, and told me I had two cavities based on a visual examination and not the x-rays. They made me make another appointment for the cavities right away. My gut made me feel uncomfortable and I went and got a second opinion at another dentist in town and had zero cavities (and this other dentist showed me the x-rays to prove it). This placed should named Discomfort Dental. I had the displeasure of having to use this place on short notice, due to a tooth with filing that cracked. First impression is the office is dirty. The dentist chair had cracked vinyl and overall office had a "cheap" feel to it. You can see and hear the dentist working in the space next to you, which is like an open bull pen. The place has a an assembly line feel to it. The worst part is the dentist I had was constantly trying to up sell services, filing other cavities that were non-existent ( I have since gone to another dentist who confirmed that for me). The dentist at Discomfort Dental said well since I have you under lets just take of these too! WHAT??? NO way, trying to sell me service while I was already "under". I was so disgusted by this place. Overall, the work they did was shoddy and need to be corrected by another dentist. There was NO WAY I was ever going back to this nightmare of dental office. Also, check your bill, they made a mistake on mine, while they did apologize, it took over a month to fix. I'll give them the benefit of doubt that it was an accident, but I felt they knew they were overcharging for a cavity that was not filled. If you have NO OTHER OPTIONS, then keep looking. I wouldn't even give Comfort Dental the one star minimum. I would give them '0' if possible. I went there to get a crown on my front tooth after cracking it in a bike accident, and the only reason I went there was because I didn't have dental insurance at the time. First of all, none of the staff were gentle or personable at all. I felt like I was being manhandled the entire time. They gave me a temporary crown that I had to use for 3 weeks until getting my permanent. The temporary was yellow and misshapen, and fell out after only a few days. I had to go buy denture adhesive to try to keep it from falling out for the remaining two weeks, which was a painful and humiliating experience. Once I receive my porcelain crown, I was initially happy with it. However, less than two years later, this crown has already broken twice and had to be completely replaced. Each time, it broke because either a fork or spoon tapped against my tooth, which I find completely ridiculous. I have never heard of crowns failing this easily. You definitely do get what you pay for, which is terrible service, no quality control, and cheap, crappy materials that fail in a short period of time. I have discovered that dental care is not an area that you should skimp on! If you go to comfort dental to get any work done, I guarantee that you will have to keep returning to deal with the repercussions of receiving low-quality dental work. read more

I saw Dr. Jeff Bernardy yesterday for a teeth cleaning and the whole experience was excellent! The office staff was extremely professional, friendly and very efficient. Dr. Bernardy was very friendly, comforting and also very upfront about what I might need in the future and how to better take care of my teeth. I am happy to have found a new dentist and a place that is reliable, affordable and covered by my insurance. I was surprised to read some of the other reviews about what happened at people's visits, since my visit was very 'normal,' or at least I think was normal. I had x-rays done first and then a very thorough teeth cleaning. After all of this, Dr. Bernardy told me about what I might need in the future, but also preventable measures as well. Uncomfortable Dental I can overlook the shabbiness. And I will say everyone is very nice. I do believe my dentist is capable. But he had an assistant complete my filling. I do not believe she is a dentist. My mouth was open for about an hour when it should've been no more than 15-20 minutes. She was incompetent, the equipment seemed quite outdated. Finally she called over the dentist as she was unable to complete my filling correctly. He did within 15 minutes. Now my gums all around the tooth are bloody and injured. The composite they use is grey, not white, so half my tooth is grey. Avoid at all costs. Here's a review on Comfort Dental in Boulder, Colorado which should top all other reviews. This regards Dentist Coleman Eich's. In February 2016, I asked Dr. Eich's to make me a tooth guard to sleep with. (a tooth guard is used to prevent grinding teeth). I was told by Dr. Eichs, he expected to make this mold of my teeth in 10 minutes. Needless to say I was in the office for one hour and 35 minutes. My husband paid Dr. Eich's $200.00 for his service. One week later I returned to the office to pick up the tooth guard which I had been told was ready. It took Dr. Eich's partner 35 minutes to find the tooth guard. When I tried to wear the tooth guard, it was painful making my gums sore. Also, and more importantly the tooth guard did not reach the molars in my mouth. It was unwearable. It took me a while to get back to the office to have the tooth guard adjusted because from a psychological view, I just didn't want to waste my valuable time hanging around the dentist office. Everything in that office takes bunches of time and I do have a demanding job that requires my full attention. Every time, I returned to the dental office, the dentist wasn't in. I left the tooth guard with the receptionist so that Comfort Dental would have it in their possession when I finally did get to see the dentist. When I did get to see Dr. Eichs, I found that once again, the tooth guard had been misplaced. I waited in the dental chair for almost 40 minutes for the dental staff to find the tooth guard which to this day remains lost. Dr. Eich's pleaded with me to come back anther day so that he could make me another tooth guard but there was no way that would happen. On May 29, 2016, I dropped off a letter to comfort dental asking them to refund the $200 to the my husbands's credit card. One week later, I received a message from the receptionist telling me that she's not going to refund the $200 because I "owe" Comfort Dental $200. This is the first time I ever heard about this bill. Apparently, on December 28, 2015, Dr. Eich's had cemented down a crown that had come loose and did a cleaning. Now that I was asking for a refund for the tooth guard Comfort Dental somehow created to bill for $200 that had been submitted to my insurance agency 7 months prior. They were hoping to keep the $200. And, isn't crazy that the bill for the claiming and cementing the crown came out to $200? Coincidence? Naaaaahhhhh. I was very stern when I told Dr. Dykes that the refund better be on my account by morning or I was going to call the card company and reverse the payment for the tooth guard. I did receive the refund and with it was a nasty letter from Dr. Eich's "dismissing" me from his dental practice. This is really laughable considering I was never, ever going to return to that office is long as I lived. Dr. Eich's letter was really comical sounding like a dentist that had just graduated from dental school. Very IMMATURE, like a child that didn't get his way. I would caution anybody that uses this office to use extreme caution, watch the billing carefully and pick through it with a fine tooth comb. There is a lot of "monkey business" going on down at Comfort Dental in Boulder. I am now going to submit a bill for $200 for all of the time Comfort Dental wasted! read more

I know that a lot of people hate Comfort Dental. I used to see Dr. Jerry Smith at the Comfort Dental in Westminster on 120th and Sheridan for about 6-7 years and he was wonderful. I wasn't too thrilled with the staff, or the wait, but I always anticipated it and brought a book. For some reason I have had ongoing dental probs all of my life, and none of my brothers or sister do, I have been blessed I guess? When the Comfort Dental opened up in Boulder I took advantage of their "FREE" services they offer on Xmas Eve. They do free cleanings, basic fillings and x-rays. What other dentist on the planet gives services away FOR FREE? I admit that I am not thrilled with either of the female dentists who work there - Drs. Lisa Sheldon or Dr. April Sousa - they seem nervous and kind of incompetent. If I am in pain I just get some xrays (which, btw, are free, only $20 for the office visit with my Annual Gold Card Plan for $133) and make an appt later in the week when Dr. Mark Cannon is around. Dr. Cannon is not only kind, competent, and compassionate, he takes the time to explain everything, and in what order it needs to be done. He "gets" that I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on my teeth, and he has even negotiated prices with me! Plus, he has a sense of humour. I really like going to the dentist there. If there is a wait - so what? It's a low-cost dentist.. Get over it. Bring your iPhone or a book and roll with it. I went to Comfort Dental last week for an emergency appointment. Although the dentist was handling multiple appointments during the procedure, I never felt like his attention was elsewhere when he was treating my concerns. He was professional and compassionate, making sure I understood my options in both the short term and long term - I also really appreciated their transparency regarding price structure, and signed up for their gold plan insurance to recieve discounted services since I have no dental coverage through my employer and absolutely will need follow-up.
