Several weeks ago, Jack Lehr inspected our gas furnace and replaced a limit switch. The technician seemed knowledgeable and professional. However, last night, we smelled gas coming from the furnace and contacted UGI. The UGI technician determined the underlying issue was a faulty gas control valve--something that should have been identified during the previous service. The furnace was red-tagged, and we were instructed to contact the last servicing company to replace the valve immediately. As part of our yearly maintenance plan with Jack Lehr, which includes "priority scheduling and access to on-call technicians (available nights/weekends/holidays)," we reached out to them. Unfortunately, it became clear that "available nights/weekends/holidays" was a marketing ploy and not an actual service commitment. The on-call technician, Josiah, initially said someone "might be able" to come out "Monday or Tuesday" if "they had time." When we asked to speak to a supervisor to address the situation, we were told repeatedly that supervisors are unavailable on weekends and would not take customer calls. After a lengthy back-and-forth about whether a gas leak that disabled our heat in 3-degree weather constituted an "emergency," Josiah reluctantly agreed to visit our home. However, he informed us that the required gas control valve could not be ordered until Monday because those with the authority to approve such orders were "off for the weekend." When we asked to escalate the issue or speak to someone who could expedite the part, we were again told, explicitly and repeatedly, that "supervisors do not talk to customers on weekends." I was told it was up to me to call them back Monday morning to follow up about ordering the essential safety component required to keep my home from having a gas leak. This has been the most unresponsive and frustrating customer service experience I have ever encountered. While Jack Lehr might employ competent and helpful representatives, they are apparently off and unavailable during actual emergencies. For contrast, I contacted a local competitor--despite not having a service contract with them--and they secured the part and agreed to provide service quickly and professionally. If you want a company that treats a gas leak in your home during winter with indifference, Jack Lehr is a good fit. If you want to keep your family warm and safe, I recommend seeking anyone else in the Lehigh Valley. read more

Well, I got my new heating system, and accompanying humidifier in 2017. The heating system has always worked well, and has been very well maintained by Lehr. The humidifier never worked. At least half a dozen technicians have worked on it, including their top guy...to no avail. That is, until MANNY! Manny was the technician scheduled to perform our semiannual service yesterday. I made my typical joke about the non- performing humidifier, and he said he would take a look at it. Alleluia! The humidifier is working, and it has been wonderful! I am so grateful to Manny. Repeatedly disappointing. First, JL replaced our boiler about three years ago after our previous one finally wore out after 30 years. In less than three years, they recommended a new expansion tank that appeared to be rusting because of "the environment it's in". The same environment that our 30-year-old boiler lived in without difficulty (included a few floods). When they did the annual service on this new boiler each of the past two years, we got airlocked in multiple zones and had to call them back to properly bleed the system. Each time they said there was no way that the annual service got air in the lines yet twice now that's exactly what happened the day they did the service. It's no longer feasible that's a coincidence. This time, however, they charged us for returning to bleed the system that was working perfectly fine before they performed annual service, adding this is also not included under the annual maintenance plan. Jack Lehr has been very disappointing, and we will not be renewing with them. I miss my old boiler (which was still 90% efficient!) and Farm & Home! Stay away. read more

Overall, disappointed by the work I received from Jack Lehr. We had a brand new gas boiler installed by them in January 2022; this was a great experience originally. Within two years, January 2024, a zone valve needed to be replaced, no heat to my entire first floor. The technician said that the part, though only 2 years old, "may have been faulty." No confirmation was done to see if the part was truly faulty so that I was not on the hook for a bad part that had been installed by their own team. I was left with a $400+ bill. I was willing to let a "one-off" slide without pushing it, but yet again, 1 year later in February 2025, the Honeywell motorized zone valve broke to my second floor on their new system from 2022. Again, no heat to second floor. At this point, we had a different company doing work on the system. Even they told us that we should get in contact with Jack Lehr because these were odd occurrences; these valves should be lasting far longer. Beware, possibly faulty parts that that will cost you an arm and a leg to repair after an original expense of $10k to replace the system. We called Jack Lehr as advised by our current HVAC tech, and they had nothing to offer us. We asked that model numbers for these parts be investigated and manufacture warranties searched. Parts that typically last over 10-15 years, broken in 2-3 years. Prepare yourself for additional expenses that Jack Lehr will not take ownership of regarding their original work. He cleaned the heater and changed the filter, which he brought with him, and inspected the entire system. Stay far away from this company. Had a trane ac unit installed in 2019 and every single year we have had a problem. Jack lehr kept telling us it is caused by humidity in our home. Which we have talked to 5 different hvac professionals and each one told us that is not causing our ac to break down. Wanted to charge us another 3000 dollars in 2023 to fix everything after back and forth with them and on the phone with trane jack lehr comes back saying they will fix it for 1.075.00 well like hell I will EVER have them do any kind of work in our house. Gave them 7000 dollars in 2019 and how can they feel ok to take another dime from us and think it is ok, they should have replaced EVERYTHING at no cost to us being EVERY single year having a problem with this unit. They didn't even catch the biggest problems, after charging me $700 (static pressure issues due to filter, bad heat pack (error was seen by tech)) 2. The technicians are good but the scheduling and adhering to the scheduled time slot is not. We were scheduled for weeks with numerous reminders (email, text, phone call). On the day of service, about 1/2 hour prior, they called to say the service would be later and by a different technician. I'm a landlord in Allentown, I live on Long Island. Last weeks heavy rains took out a tree, which took out my power lines to the house. I called J.L. at aprox 9:30am. So I am finally using the monster AC from Jack Lehr. When the unit was installed, the heat pump did not work. A technician came out next day and admitted it was wired wrong!! (Outlets were 'unwired' as well....)! The unit is huge! But cools uneven! I had a Sears unit that was compact and quiet. Plus my electric bill went up over $50 a month!!! I'm somewhat (very?) disappointed with the service contract Jack Lehr HVAC sold/included me/with the A/C unit purchased & installed in June 2021. At my first service visit (5/31/2022) the tech advised that the condensate pump reservoir would need to be cleaned at an upcharge fee of $65.45. When Lehr installed the system in June 2021, this reservoir WAS NOT cleaned (serviced) out. Since this is (according to the tech) a standard service, does not need any additional parts, and WAS NOT completed when the sytem was installed last year, I feel this upcharge represents a somewhat dishonest business practice. I do not understand why this was not included with annual system maintenance checkup, and why it was not done when my system was installed. When I questioned (complained to) the tech, he said that (after a call to his supervisor) all systems do not have condensate pumps (an assertion I'm skeptical of) so it was service NOT completed during installation. Really? Seems to me just an excuse to upcharge for a prepaid maintenance contract. Future customers should be aware of these, apparently, deceptive sales practices when purchasing any service contract from Lehr and obtain a list of covered services before signing up! That said, the service tech was very polite, wore a mask in my home (much appreciated considering COVID), and worked efficiently. read more

After having them install a new Trane Heat pump system, they did first preventive maintenance after a year and wanted to sell me another $700 worth of upgrades and service after spending $11K! Then to find out the service tech is not honest and didn't document when they add a pound of refrigerant to a new system under warranty so for that reason, they cannot be trusted! read more

Untrustworthy, Unprofessional, Undependable and Overpriced We have been a customer of Jack Lehr's for a couple years and after this last visit, we decided to go elsewhere. First off, we were never able to get our heater or cental air unit scheduled for maintenance before the start of the season. Normally mid December to January for the heater (even if you call in October) and August for the central air if you call in May. This year we were scheduled for mid January maintenance on our heater and they called and bumped us up to December 7th because there was a cancellation. After being here for hours, and calling in a third technician who was extremely rude, they shut down the heater because it was leaking CO and over firing. They told me that there might be a problem with the warranty of the heat exchanger because the furnace install was not in my name and even if it was there was only a 12 year warranty, so they would have to check all that out. They said it would be better for me to get a new furnace, even if the part was covered, because this is an expensive repair. The salesman showed up and tried to sell me a furnace, my husband is at work and it is a Friday evening. We needed to wait for options and I wanted to call Trane about this warranty. After calling Trane, I find out that the part is covered for 20 years not 12 and it is a base warranty meaning it does not matter whose name it is under. Jack Lehr quotes a price of almost $1800 for just the labor to fix this covered part. They say it will take 2 techs almost 8 hours to complete this job. We decide to shop around. We found another servicer who confirmed the heat exchanger went. It was so bad around the 2nd exchanger the zinc was burnt off and flames were shooting out of the front of the heater. Their price, with the service call to confirm it was the exchanger, $1200. One tech did the job in 4 hours. The tech discovered, before he replaced the exchanger, the hi/lo settings on the heater were set way too high. Lo should have been no higher than 1.4 and it was at 2.0 and the hi should have been no higher than 3.1 and it was at 3.7. I asked if this could have caused the issue and was told yes because it could have caused a higher flame. I then reached out to Jack Lehr to find out why, and how, this could have happened. Why wasn't this checked last year? I eventually ended up emailing with Ed Lehr who told me that last year the tests they ran showed the heater was not over firing. I asked him for these numbers. He did not respond to this, just kept avoiding the question. I told him that I am looking for these numbers or I would register a complaint because these numbers are very important and we were paying for a service for them to be making sure our heater was safe. He told me he would get back to me after the holiday. He did but with the same WO I already had and with the same test he was already talking about. Nothing with the hi/lo settings recorded. I told him that I would reach out to Trane but had surgery coming up so it might take me a bit to get back to him. After speaking with Trane they confirmed the settings were too high and could have caused this issue. I reached back out to Ed Lehr and he said that he also reached out to Trane and a tech there said the opposite and wanted to know who I spoke to and why I ignored his emails (I responded to his email less than 30 minutes after he sent it to me). I figure out these were all stall tactics from him. He also stated that Trane told him that acceptable limits are .2 above or below the recommended. As you can see, we were above .6 on both the lo and the high. After a month of trying to get these numbers from him, we still have nothing but a slew of emails and a copy and pasted email that he sent me supposedly from a Trane rep saying about the heater was not over fired. I flat out asked him if he is willing to reimbursed any of the cost for this costly mistake on their part or show me the numbers of those settings to prove they were checked the year before like they were supposed to be and he claims they did nothing wrong. I gave them many opportunities to do the right thing and either produce the settings or pay for the damage and he could not admit fault. Hell, after he accused me of ignoring his email and I pointed out that I responded and showed it to him he could not even apologize for that. I will never recommend them to anyone that I know and I would strongly caution you to use them for your needs. The owner is not an honest man. When that is the case, what can you honestly expect from a company that he runs. I have all the emails to back up everything that I am saying and I will share them with whoever wants them. read more

I just had my heating/air conditioning replaced for my 3 story townhouse - a major expense at over $7K. i couldn't find anyone who had had this type of work done, so I couldn't get any recommendations from friends and neighbors. I finally choose Jack Lehr to do the work because they were listed as a family-run company. I had been warned about places like Sears and Home Depot because they sub-contract out the work, and you never know who you will actually get to do the work. I am very pleased over-all with the work. A knowledgeable person, Steve Grimm, came out to give me an estimate and explain the options available to me. They install Trane products, which are quality products that I had researched in Consumers Report. I had thoroughly researched energy efficient gas heating and air conditioning units on-line and had printed out the information. Everything he told me agreed with my research, which made me confident in my choices of units and in using his company to do the work. He gave me a written estimate and called into the office to set me up with a date to have the work done. Two very nice young men, Keith and Mike, arrived promptly at 7:30 am on the appointed date, and it took them 8 hours to finish the job. They put down drop cloths on the floor (like a painter) and cleaned up with a vacuum cleaner they brought with them when they finished. This morning a Whitehall Township inspector came out to inspect the job, so I feel confident that all was done properly. This was a big, expensive job for me, and I am delighted that it was all handled so well by the Jack Lehr people, all of whom were polite, easy to work with, and knowledgeable in their part of the job, from my first phone call to the completion of the job. read more

I used a discounted coupon offer sent to me for an annual inspection. Jack Lehr sent Brandon Nordt who did an excellent job inspecting my electric furnace and heat/ cooling pump. He was quite thorough, checking every part of the furnace and pump and explaining that there were no issues, as well as explaining how he arrived at that conclusion. He found only two items in need of replacement; both rusted capacitors, one for the furnace and one for the pump. He took the time to show me why they were in need of replacement, had the parts in stock to compare the voltages, so the replacement was done that hour. He also cleaned the blower and motor, and then re-tested everything. Now I'm noticing that my house heats up in half the time it took before, and the furnace doesn't run constantly any longer. I am giving these people one star, merely because "zero" is not an option. I had an $8000 heat pump installed less than a year ago...system is under warranty. What "warranty" means to these folks is that they will let you freeze your @ss off for three weeks in the middle of winter while they order a part for you. Got a 'quote" from Jack Lehr to replace an AC system. I already had a couple of other quotes and they all suggested a complete replacement which included all the duct work. The only things not being replaced were the vents and the electrical wiring. Jack Lehr was over $4000 more than the other quotes. Jack Lehr 'quoted' a Trane system. Granted, a Trane system is better than other units. As I said they quoted Trane, but never gave anything in a written form. The sales person, who was on-site, must have known that they were not in the running once I told them the the other prices. He naturally bad-mouthed the other contractors without knowing who they were and what product they selling. There is no doubt in my mind that their $4000+ verbal quote was for the bottom of the line 13 SEER AC. The sales person never gave a written quote listing any details. Any contractor that does not provide a written quote is not worth dealing with. read more

What a waste of time. I called Jack Lehr for our air-condition unit and always had good experience with the service people. After the last storm we wanted to install a back-up generator. I called JL to set up an appointment three times until somebody finally showed up. I never experienced a more unprofessional sales person in my life. When I told him what I wanted: Diesel generator, manual switch etc. he told me, they are using only their equipment ( a propane gas generator), and he laughed at me, for telling him what I wanted. When my ac quit at 5am Saturday, I called JL at 8am. The tech was here by 10:30 and got it running. He recommended replacement because unit was old and repair cost would be very expensive. We have had trouble with our heat pumps since they were installed 7 plus years ago especially with the April air leaking several times. We finally disconnected it. We have their monthly payment plan for service which helped just recently. They came out and "repaired' the cooling part over the Memorial Holiday,but that repair failed in 24 hours. A second repairman came out on Sunday evening but needed the correct parts . That took only 2 days and when repairman #2 returned the parts were installed and the unit works. Mixed reviews but they did respond fairly quickly. All under warranty which runs out in 2 months. read more

Lack of information all the way around, the service tech was excellent and installed a part he had on his truck which turned out to be defective at the onset. He explained that he would set our system to emergency heat and that it would be 2 days until the part was received in the offce and they would come out and install right away given the cold temperatures (12 degrees outside). Four days later, they hadn't called, I called in and the Service mgr said the part was in the stockroom (it had just arrived); and they had not had an opportunity to call me. Tech would be at the house in 2 hours. Gave Service mgr a number to reach us. Waited 3 more hours, called in and they were calling a different number, service mgr indicated that the part was not in fact the part he had verified this morning as being the one that was needed. Blamed it on the factory sending him the wrong part. Explained it would be another 6 days before the correct part arrived. We have a service agreement with Jack Lehr which is a waste of money and offers in fact no service. In the interim, the emergency heat only operates minimally and the internal temperature in the house is 56 degrees at best when the outside temperature is now zero. read more
