When you first arrive you will notice from the parking lot that half the hotel is under construction. Check-in was friendly enough. However, when we got to our assigned hotel room the door was left wide open, no need for the key cards which was unusual. Carpet in the hotel rooms are not clean at all (food crumbs, raisins, a nickel, etc.) and the room had lots of different bugs since there is a massive gap at the bottom of the doorway to the hallway. For a one night stay I personally saw at least six different bugs. I was going to report it at checkout, however no one was working at the front desk. They only had a key drop during regular checkout hours. Would not stay at this property again. read more

When I woke up, there were roaches everywhere. They were two on the nightstand (one with an egg attached), one on the wall on the wall also with an egg attached. I immediately packed my things and headed to the front desk. The lady at the desk, to me, acted like she could care less. She gave me the impression that this was normal, people reporting roaches in their room. I asked her about a refund, and she stated "No". I would advise you to find another hotel, unless you want roaches crawling over you while you sleep. Also, they will be laying eggs in your luggage, for you to take home. With my Diamond status the check in was super fast and easy. I was in room 118 that's directly outside of the checkin desk. King room was large and had a small kitchenette. Dorm room size fridge. The bed was decent but the dang couch that is in the room was absolutely horrible. I would compare it to sitting on concrete ( not even joking ) it was terrible. This is the second time I stayed here for one night each over the last several months, and I was surprised at the smell on my floor and in my room this time. I don't remember this my last visit in early June. I felt uncomfortable wondering how clean it really was. Also the hotel needs updating, as it looks pretty worn down. That said, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect as I was leaving the next morning to fly out of the Birmingham airport. I had forgotten that it had a refrigerator which was a plus. It also was quiet for a reunion staying there and also close to the highway. However, if I'm ever in the area, I would definitely check out the other hotels first before I stay here again. read more

Extremely disappointed. My family and I flew into Alabama to attend funeral services. We chose this hotel due to the location as it was close to the Funeral home...... BIG mistake! Customer service is severely lacking from the owner/management on down. Out of 10 people (staff) that we encountered only 4 seemed to be at least content with their jobs and had a pleasant smile and was helpful. The "free" breakfast was available if you like frozen eggs, microwave pork sausage, the instant oatmeal and waffle was the safer choice. My room had a stale smell inside, slippery faux hard wood floors, and musty carpet smell. Once I used the bathroom, I discovered that the toilet was not attached to the floor!!! What? Crazy!!!! Management offered to send maintenance to check it out..... check it out? NO!!! GIVE ME A NEW ROOM PLEASE MA'AM!!! The room transfer was much better, it was cleaned and newer. Suggestion for HR: get your employees a class in hospitality customer quick! As well as the owners. Much needed! read more

Read the reviews prior to booking. THEY ARE LIES. Do NOT book this hotel. 1. The room door handle came off in our hand. 2. The air conditioner leaked all over the floor (3rd floor). literally water was dripping from the unit and the carpet under was saturated. 3. Dirty bedspread and holes in the blanket. 4. The hallway carpets are FILTHY. 5. The room, hallway, and elevator smelled like smoke. 6. This place says remodeled but it's just and old run down Comfort Inn that was repainted. The kicker was...when we nicely went back to the desk and asked for a different room and listed off the issues the owner was summonsed and stated before we could be given another room she had to see how much of the room we had used. WE HAD JUST CHECKED IN! We did not have time to check out and to find another hotel as we had one hour until we were due at the Miss Alabama competition. Seriously. Save yourself. Good size refrigerator, a microwave, comfortable bed, and little office area, the room had it all. The breakfast spread was very nice as well as coffee available all the time. Omg the towels!! Okay, so I ended up stuck in the area when the transmission started going out in my car. Luckily, my phone led me to this hotel. Check in was fast and easy. The lady at the desk, Ms. Albino, was super nice and friendly-she greeted me with a genuine smile, so I immediately felt very welcome. The elevator looked a little outdated, but the room was wonderful. I did a quick check for bed bugs-bug free! I looked the bathroom over before settling in-perfectly cleaned and sanitized. The room smells good, the air conditioner runs well and quiet. Nice tv. Very comfortable beds. Best part was the bathroom. The tub is really big, so even a big girl like me can soak if they want. It isn't too deep, so it's perfect for kids too. There are LOTS of towels. Way more than I have ever seen in a hotel. And not the cheap scratchy type. These are soft and they even have bath sheets for us big girls and guys! Best room I have ever gotten at this price point. I'd highly recommend this location to anyone in the Birmingham area. read more

So I ask her to talk later on and she continues to blow up the room phone and then comes knocking at my door telling me and my husband the if we don't move to another room that we have to leave due to our review . And we told her we are already payed up for two days and had already settled. Well she continued to argue with us and so we got our belongings and went to another hotel. The annual brothers-in-law tri is always an adventure. One of the others always books the hotel and always uses Comfort Inns. As a rule, they have been a bit on the rough side, but here in Birmingham was an exception. The place was clean and the breakfast was good. We were in Birmingham to visit the Barber Motorsports Museum and this hotel is convenient. You don't need to get on the Interstate and are there in a few minutes. The price was reasonable - $80 or so per night. It was well worth the money and I would gladly use it again. read more

No. Just no. Just yuck. The room was humid and smelled weird. I sprayed perfume everywhere to try to mask it. The room just felt icky! The pictures that were posted on Yelp 22 days ago (look to be corporate photos) are NOT a true representation of this hotel. They are very outdated...even the dining chairs in the breakfast area are different! (I added current pictures!) Stains all over the dust-duffel...the chair was turned over in the room!! What happened in this room?? I def would NOT have stayed here if the reviews and pictures were an accurate representation and it wasn't so late when I checked in. We have booked rooms here three of them due to an unforseen death in our family. Upon checking in we received a sympathy card as well as the hotel staff were beyond kind and made sure to not disturb us. We were treated much better than a normal kindness calls for. The rooms were very clean and the independent controls for the cooling/heating system was great as well. There is also a small microwave and fridge in the room which is very nice to have. read more

Comfortable, kind and wonderful staff. This was a really comfortable place to stay. It had a great location where there was plenty of food, shopping and everything we needed for our business trip. There was a nice pool and the location was calm and quiet. The room was clean and had all that we needed. There was a lovely desk, a microwave and a refrigerator. The beds were super comfortable. The bathroom was also clean and had everything that we needed. They were also very accommodating and when we forgot our toiletries they were happy and able to offer us toothpaste and everything that we might need including a toothbrush! We didn't check in until later at night, but upon arrival, we had a warm welcome. Free parking, WiFi, & breakfast are all provided. The room was very clean with toiletries, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, blow dryer, and iron all provided. The TV included HBO. The water didn't take long to get hot and the shower was roomy. After staying in several hotels with ridiculously flat pillows, it was nice to see they provided normal-sized pillows that supported our heads nicely. The location of the hotel was great as well. Filthy. Possibly the dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed in since staying in various "Sands Motels" and the like across New Mexico in the 1990s for $19.99 a night as a child (my Dad was very frugal). The a/c made a lot of strange noises and worked but not very well. Our room was hot despite the a/c being set to the coolest setting. Seemed to kick on and off a lot more than is normal. Breakfast was standard but dining area was dirty. Especially the sticky floors. It was just nasty and filthy everywhere I looked. Room was small but did have a fridge and microwave. I normally spring for nicer hotels, but for a good rate thought I'd give it a try. Major mistake! My room smells heavily like cigarette smoke, yet the plethora of signs that say "no smoking or you will be charged" are ridiculous - how would they even know? I'm not a smoker but after staying here I may get lung cancer just from breathing in the smell. There was hair, and not one piece, but several in the bath tub! Disgusting. There is a cigarette burn in the curtain that burned a hole into it. The iron had the piece missing to add water for steam. There was a large sticky stain on the floor that I stepped in barefoot and it completely grossed me out. The sprinkler in the bathroom is hanging out halfway from where it should be. The outlet in the bathroom is sticking out and has a large enough space for insects to get through. The bathroom mirror was unappealing as it had some of the border ripped off and what should have been the tissue box holder had no box of tissues and looked like it was missing the decorative piece so it was just galvanized metal. The air conditioner was so dirty I had a bit of a hard time seeing the names of the buttons and it had dust and hair all over it. So gross! Under the entry door there is a 3-4 inch gap that lets a ton of light in and you can hear everyone that walks by. Believe it or not there were a couple of positive things: 1. The bed and pillows are really comfortable. 2. The air conditioner gets really cold and works well. 3. Breakfast isn't bad. It's decent. Overall, the room is terrible. It's disgusting and I'd never stay here again. read more

There was a sign in the parking lot warning you not to leave anything in your car. There were some interesting folks hanging out in the parking lot too. The garbage outside was overflowing and there was liter everywhere. The rooms and hotel were not that clean. The comforter and floors had stains. Screens needed replacing on the outside. It looks like they just painted over the walls in the rooms and put down some new tiles, etc. The carpet was old and dirty in our room. The room smelled as if the hotel allowed smoking at one point then painted over to mask the smell. The luggage cart has seen better days and was broken. I couldn't even push it in the door, but the staff didn't help a pregnant lady with 2 little ones even try to get the cart in the door. I wouldn't stay here again. I actually thought about driving through the night to get home because it was so gross. read more

This is a typical Comfort Inn. What sets it apart is the employees. I was there as my flight was cancelled and the airline put me up for the night. The next morning the lovely woman at the front desk offered to call me a cab to get to the airport. When said cab didn't show up on time another employee offered to give me a ride and refused accept any monetary compensation. I don't know their names but they know who they are. So as soon as you walk in to the lobby there is a funky stench. Al's a bunch of random people hanging out side in the parking lot. I asked for a king and was told it was available. They charged my card and then told me that they had no kings available. The lady then told me she charged for the queen. Sense she had charged my car already we decided to stay. As we walked in the room it smelled like cigarette and the tile was greasy and slippery. I wrote a review on google about it that night. Bye the morning the manager was blowing up the hotel room phone. I finally decided to disconnect it. She then came to the door knocking and then harassing us to leave. So we did. Friendly, comfortable and low key. I stayed at this Comfort Inn for a night while on tour and I couldn't have asked for more. The front desk staff was polite and my room was clean with a surprisingly comfortable bed. I had to leave really early the following morning and they already had hot coffee and the entire continental breakfast spread (with healthy choices) out at 5am which was nice. Also, for fellow travelers, there's tons of food, gas and whatever else you may need conveniently located near this property. 10/10 I would recommend this place. read more

Not the pits not the Ritz. This comfort inn was perfect for out needs. We had a great comedy show at stardome Birmingham and arrived at the hotel at midnight. The staff was amazing and the property was clean lit and comfy. The room was great great linens and comfy. I slept hard and we had breakfast at 6am before we left and it was amazing. Very Disappointed!! I had points for choice hotels and thought this would be a good place to stay on our way to Florida.. The pictures on the internet made this hotel look immaculate, boy were we shocked when we got there. The paint on the outside of the hotel is peeling, there was a strong cleaner smell inside. The elevator was dirty a and the carpet in the hallway on the 2nd floor was filthy. It looked like they are remodeling and the carpet strips right in front of the room doors was gone. What was left was sticky glue that you had to step on. The room was not that clean and there was a damp musty smell in the room. The ac unit is loud as well. Use your points elsewhere. read more

REALLY YUCKY! On the first day in our room there was a dirty wash cloth from the previous guests left over the shower curtain. Place smelled musky(dirty) and like smoke. There were signs all over the place threatening a $150 fine for smoking, yet it reeked of cigarette smoke. We didn't use the toiletry samples, but they were half-filled. Upon checking out, I complained about the smoky smell to the staff person. She said that there is nothing they can do about it. She threw out the comment that they can't "wave a magic wand and make the smoke disappear". The staff person said when they do say something to their smoking guests, those guests call Comfort Inn's HQ to complain about the staff being rude and the staff gets into trouble. She said it's a "no win" situation. I feel that if you can't keep the smoking out of the hotel, then DON'T advertise it as a non-smoking facility. I sent a complaint to Choice Hotels customer service and part of their response was : "As you may or may not know, each of the hotels in Choice's franchise system is individually owned and operated. Choice does not control the day-to-day operations of the hotel; however, the hotels are expected to meet certain standards." This is the problem with franchised hotels. Some are great and some are awful. In my opinion, this one is AWFUL! read more

After chatting with the folks at the desk for a few minutes, they let me know where my room was and gave me the rundown for their breakfast in the morning. They were beyond helpful and courteous. I walked in the room, and WOW! The room was spotless!
