I spent three nights here on my summer vacation. Check-in was very smooth, and my room was spacious and clean. Also, the breakfast was good and plentiful, and coffee was available throughout the day. The parking lot is spacious, which is always a plus. This hotel is in a good spot if you want to do park visits in eastern Kentucky, as I did. The pretty and historic Mount Sterling is also worthy to visit for. The only slight downgrade is that the price for a night with taxes was a little bit higher than what I have gotten used to at hotels like this. So if you don't mind paying a little bit extra, this place is to be recommended. read more

First of all let me begin with the amount of disrespect we received at this business is embarrassing. Watch using your cards with this business as they are THIEVES. I will include all videos where you can hear the owner say what my charge was and what reflected my account was not that amount. We are still as of now waiting on our refund. Had to involve police just to get her to cough up a receipt to prove we were being refunded. SHE KICKED US OFF THE PROPERTY AND IMMEDIATELY CANCELED OUR STAY WITH TWO CHILDREN OUTSIDE AFTER DRIVING 14 HOURS STRAIT. SHOWED NO COMPASSION WHAT SO EVER. I don't even know where to start about our visit here. As someone who has stayed in everything from tents to resorts, I think I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from a Level 2/3 hotel. My mom has stayed at other locations and overall been happy so we decided to stay at this location. It was $95 for the night and seemed high for what you get but since it offered breakfast and had a pool we justified the cost. On first arriving, the lobby was clean and seemed welcoming although small for where you are also eating breakfast. This did prove true in the morning so we took it back to our room which was inconvenient when we needed something else. However, we checked in and proceeded to unload the car. On our way in the desk clerk said their system messed up and she needed my card again. So I had to stop with a cart of stuff and re-check in. The room was clean and an average size but the shower had mold as well as the grout in between the tile was as dark as the tile in many areas. This is usually a sign of things not being cleaned adequately but I have seen worse. When we looked at the window the screen was hanging off but it was 90 degrees so we weren't going to open the window. We proceeded to head to the pool where we were greeted with a sign that said the pool was being renovated but open. This proved to be an excuse as evidenced in the photos. The paint is flaking off everywhere even in the pool when swimming, there is paint and outside debris on the floor, huge areas of mold on the wall where it is coming through the paint they tried to cover it up with, the outside windows are wide open with no screens, pool ladder is broken (no sign on it) , and the pool sign says limit 5 people (for a 3 floor hotel). We ended up heading to dinner and when we came back one of our group (there were 4 of us) was cold so we called down (9:30 )and asked for an extra blanket and towels. My husband was told they would be brought up. 30 minutes later they aren't there so he calls back. They said they don't deliver stuff this late we needed to come down. He also asked for more makeup remover wipes (there was only 1 toiletry of each and I had registered for 4 people) and was told they didn't have any. We came down and I asked the clerk who told my husband they would bring it up and how many people were working. She kept saying there is normally 1 person who works at night. Surprise there was another person working so I asked them why no one called us to say they weren't bringing it up to which she replied the other girl was new and must have forgotten. At that point she started being rude and I brought up my safety concerns with the still open windows etc and she basically told me it was fine. Yet the parking lot has signs that say basically you park at your own risk. The next morning when we had house keeping knock on our door almost 2 hours before checkout. We told them we weren't leaving yet and did ask about more toiletries. Surprise they had make up remover wipes. At check out I asked for a printed receipt showing I had checked out and total so I could make sure there were no added expense and the GM got an attitude. I also told her I was going to be contacting corporate to which she said nothing, didn't ask what was wrong, or offer to help. I did give it 2 stars because the breakfast was good and had a nice variety, the beds were comfortable and there were enough pillows. I do want to note I would NOT stay here again or recommend it to anyone. When we were leaving the side doors were propped open, the pool door and windows were open and that area had not been cleaned up even after me saying something about it last night. The open doors and windows are a safety risk. They do have cameras but they are not monitored. The screens are at the front desk and every time I went to the front desk no one was there. Even during check out and check in times. If I could I would give it 1 1/2 stars. I book this hotel online thinking it might be close to Red River Gorge, but it was too far at least 40 minutes. I got a good deal which was a plus. The check- in time was 3 pm, but we arrived early and the front desk Anna accommodated us which I really appreciated. The room was standard, pretty clean and there's plenty of towels and hot water which I really like. I don't really need much- just clean room, clean bed sheets and towels, and strong hot water shower pressure. The breakfast buffet is not happening per Anna due to the pandemic which was understandable. My rating was based on my personal experience and how I was treated during this visit. I want to rate this hotel 5/5, but I observed that the outside seemed unkept- trash can was full and overflowing, and trash and cigarette butts all over the parking lot. I canceled my booking on a Thursday for Friday and was told it was taking care of but come to find out it wasn't done so I was stuck with the bill for three days. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

We were in town for a family/friend gathering and were unable to stay in our usual hotel. Our traveling partners needed first floor joined rooms and we were fortunate that this facility was able to accommodate us. The room was clean but dated. The room was large in size, and gave us room so we didn't feel we were on top of one another. The hotel featured a small indoor pool, but we had no interest on this trip. Our only interaction with staff was at check-in and checkout but they were pleasant and efficient. We would stay again if passing through, but would probably want a more up to date facility if staying for a longer visit. read more

Awesome hotel, friendly staff & comfortable accomodations! I am a regular at this hotel and let me just say the previous review is absurd. I would caution that upon reading such a review, as well as any others, you keep in mind experiences are subjective and there are usually several sides to a story. Here, we get just the one. This hotel is very nice, and the staff are extremely accommodating. Obviously with a new establishment (this hotel was opened as a Comfort under new ownership in May from what I understand) there may be some kinks that need working out. However, over the last few months (I'm in Mt. Sterling often for work) i've watched the owners and the manager work very hard to make the hotel a success and please their guests in any way that they are able. I usually speak directly with Michael (the GM) to handled my reservations and he has been professional through the duration of my stay. He's always made sure that my needs as a guest/business professional are met & that my stay is comfortable. As I understand it, he works according to the needs of the hotel and is always there 5 days a week but may sometimes work afternoons instead of mornings if that's what needs to be done. Considering he is the GM I'm not sure it's up to us as guests to try to dictate or say what is best for this particular hotel as far as scheduling goes. Also - as I've said I am a regular and stayed at this hotel before it was a Comfort Inn & Suites, even before Michael worked there. I believe he came aboard sometime in August so if there was a time in August that he wasn't present , I'd be willing to bet it was prior to him being hired. I totally understand being disappointed in a stay, I have had stays that weren't perfect but to get online and spew disparaging remarks and untruths is completely unfair to a business and people that work very hard every day to provide personalized service to us. Stayed at quite a few hotels. Been at this one multiple times over several years and several owners. First time I stayed at it when it became Comfort Inn I was lied to right out of the gate. The question I asked when I was checking in was, "Did they completely remodel the Inn?". The answer was, "Yes, everything was remodeled." First impression when walking in the front door was that they installed a new automatic sliding doors without taking out the old doors. So you have old door jams behind the new ones. Looks odd but no big deal who cares? When I finally got to my room, after learning that the card readers on the side doors wont let you in the hard way, I went to use the bathroom. I quickly realized all they did was paint over the old black mold that was all over the ceilings in the bathrooms before. Otherwise the bathroom was completely unchanged with no new fixtures. Not sure how old the bathrooms are but I am guessing at least 10 years without significant changes. Painting is not remodeling, it is maintenance. Bathtubs still do not drain even though the room I was in did not even have a drain plug. This proved the same for several other rooms I stayed in. Noisy at night, there is a bar next door. There are signs in the hotel parking lot stating you park there at your own risk. Fantastic, is there somewhere else I can park where my car wont get damaged or stolen? Nope. The actual room looks like it did indeed get a paint job and new carpet along with new furniture. Though the heating/ac units are still the same. The internet connection has ports blocked so do not expect to be able to use some voice communications on it. I believe it has a 5 meg service for the entire building which is atrocious given how many rooms it has. Hard to tell since it could be limited on a per device basis and I only stay during the work week. But all in all not too bad, though I wouldn't bring my family here. Loud bar scene isn't a big deal. It closes rather early anyway during the week. My biggest gripe is there is only one entrance and limited parking with signs that basically say your car is toast if you park here. I do not like having to carry my bags all the way around the Inn because there is nowhere to park and the card readers do not work. You can walk out the doors just fine you just cannot get back in. If I could park near an entrance and walk right in instead of having to walk around the building twice a day I would give it three stars. If your finicky about hotels you might want to just pass up Mt. Sterling entirely and find one in nearby Lexington which is less than 20 minutes away because the Ramada next door is not much better. read more

Comfort Inn Mt. Sterling, KY 40353 Mike Newsome, General Manager I stayed at this location back in August, first impression wasn't terrible. The hotel seemed pretty quaint. I arrived later at night, therefore there weren't many people hanging out in the lobby. It seemed to be quiet. The room itself was clean and rather large. The sink area was located outside of the bathroom which was a bit odd, it was very small, and little space therefore two people could not utilize it at the same time. The bathroom was also very small. The vent was noisy and the lighting around the sink and in the bathroom was bad. We were woken up by noise in the hallway, which indicates to me that the insulation is not up to par. Noise became a factor throughout the night into the morning. It was a weekend; therefore the intention of sleeping in was crucial. That did not happen. You could hear the cleaning staff starting super early all of the way throughout check out time. I went downstairs to check out and bring the matter to the manager's attention. I was told that the manager is only in select hours during the week. I was told that I would need to contact Mike on Monday. I called Monday as requested, multiple times. No one answered. I finally reached someone around 4pm and was told he was gone for the day. At that point I was frustrated and called the Choice Hotels customer relations. I provided extensive detail from that stay. They assured me that everything would be fully resolved and documented. They told me to contact them directly for my future reservation and they would make sure that my rate would be a certain amount for the entire duration of the reservation. I contacted them a week ago to reserve for October, they pulled up the documentation and confirmed the rate that was quoted. They asked me to contact Mike, the GM directly to make the reservation and if any issue occurred, to contact them again. I called Mike, he stated that he made my reservation for the two nights at the price of which I was quoted. I reiterated that pricing and he confirmed. I did not receive my confirmation; therefore I called the following day and spoke with Nicole. She told me that Mike was not there and that he had input the incorrect pricing for the stay. I contacted the guest relations again; they were thoroughly confused as they had documentation of the proper pricing. I have now spent hours on the phone with corporate as well as trying to reach Mike at the location and no resolution. Every time I call the location I am told that he is not there. I was told that he only works Monday-Friday from around 1030 am-4 pm. I called again today and was asked to call back later. I finally reached him; he was not interested in helping me with this matter what so ever. He was very rude and condescending. His lack of professionalism is beyond appalling. I voiced my concerns and asked that he have his superior contact me as soon as possible. He basically told me that he could not guarantee anything. He then tried to tell me that the rate he could provide me on one of the nights was over double the regular pricing. What a joke. read more
