Worst customer service I've ever experienced in my entire life. The woman at the front desk, Monae (she also mentioned she was the manager), was rude, unhelpful, and even hung up on me while I was stranded after a flight cancellation. This is one of those reviews that I probably should have done sooner; but, as obviously happened, I got distracted. So let's get to it. I stayed here in August of 2023 when a friend I was traveling with had a medical issue that resulted in that person being hospitalized in Bakersfield for several days. Comfort Suites is the sort of hotel you would expect for its price range. The rooms are comfortable, but not luxurious. Daily housekeeping service is the standard. The housekeeping staff were very nice, and listened when you told them whether or not your room needed to be cleaned on a particular day. Word of advice: at any hotel/motel be nice to the housekeeping staff, and remember to tip them. Also the front desk staff were very good and attentive. They were very accommodating in dealing with my uncertain length of stay. Yes, they had a free breakfast. It wasn't gourmet, I wouldn't expect that, but it was good. Bacon, bagels, bread, cereal, coffee, fruit juice, milk, sausage, waffles, and yogurt. Basically the usual suspects for a hotel free breakfast. Not a luxury stay; but, a good, comfortable, and relatively economical place to stay. read more

Our room was clean. The breakfast was better than most with biscuits and gravy, waffles, omelets, scrambled eggs, sausage, homestyle potatoes, fruits, breads and cereals. Good at this price point. I believe there is some remodeling going on due to the storage containers on the property, still plenty of parking. The carpet in the hallway on our floor was worn but clean. If you want a comfortable, relaxing stay while in Bakersfield, and the surrounding area, Comfort Suites is the place. It has clean rooms, a hot breakfast, it's of easy access and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Monet and Lavey (not sure about the spelling) were particularly helpful and kind. They helped to make our recent stay there very relaxing and enjoyable. In fact, we stayed over another night, partly of their friendly service. I stayed here for 4 nights back in December 2023 due to a class and some training nearby. The staff was always very welcoming and friendly. The room was ample and clean. The breakfast every morning had coffee, juice, milk, eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuits, gravy, danish, yogurt, cereal and other bread items. Definitely worth it so you don't have to go and hunt for breakfast in the morning. The hotel is located near a busy intersection; it is right near/off Highway 99. The good news is, you cannot hear the traffic from the hotel so it doesn't interrupt sleep. As of this writing, Costco, Chevron, Starbucks, and Carl's Jr. are nearby. I drove to these places, but they are easily within walking distance if you like to walk. The hotel is located in a quiet area. There are other hotels around there and not much else. However, if you drive 2 miles west, down the Rosedale Highway, there is a huge shopping center/area. There's Target, Home Depot, Arby's, Del Taco, Panda Express, other family-type restaurants and the list goes on and on. The reason I knocked it down one star was because of a few things. I thought the room was somewhat dark and the lighting in there just wasn't enough. And this was even with turning on all the lights. I also really needed Internet access and it just wasn't dependable. I don't know what was going on, but I could access some things and on other popular websites such as YouTube, it would not let me play videos. The staff was very helpful and got me in touch with the Internet provider, but they couldn't help. If you are planning on doing work in your room, I would strongly recommend you either already have or buy a hotspot connected to your cell phone. Walls are a bit thin. Thankfully whoever was staying next to me I only heard till 9 PM and then they either went to bed or left. The parking area was somewhat small. Perhaps it was just the time I went there, but I was out and about during regular business hours and came back after 5 PM. The parking lot was jam-packed with a bunch of very large white Caltrans-type of work trucks which barely allowed you to park your car in between them. And it wasn't just one or two trucks, it was around 7 -10 of them which hogged up a lot of the spots. I'm guessing maybe this hotel has a contract with the state or with other businesses to allow their work crew to stay there. There is a parking area next to the hotel which was blocked by a yellow metal bar. It appeared it was part of the hotel, but I'm not 100% sure. If it is part of the hotel, it would be nice for them to open it and direct the larger trucks to park over there. Also, during this time, there were many cars parking in the handicap parking spots, but nobody had an actual decal or tag. This is a big problem. This also shows why I'm bringing up the small parking lot. They need to make sure to leave those handicap spots open for the people who actually need them, not for guests who think it means overflow parking. During the time I was there, the elevator broke down on the last night I was staying there. I know this type of thing is unpredictable, but it was very inconvenient. I had just come off wearing a foot boot for 8 weeks due to a heel sprain. It was tough going up and down the stairs and especially tough having to drag my luggage down when I was leaving. As I mentioned, I know these type of things just happen, but maybe the hotel needs to have a monthly or bi-monthly contract with an elevator service to just check on general maintenance. Despite some issues, I would have no problem staying here again. It was convenient for what I needed and I really liked the staff's hospitality. read more

What could have been a decent hotel is completely ruined by the staff. As I've mentioned some already know, I am a musician (and travel agent on the side) so...I stay in a lot of freakin hotels. Bakersfield has not turned out to be very prominent in customer service and this hotel did not fail to meet the Bakersfield standard. I always make an effort to walk into each place with a cheery disposition and in the mindset of promoting a positive experience and that honestly seems to be a real issue here no to mention, a guaranteed way to ensure the staff here at Comfort Suites (so much irony) will make your stay as uncomfortable as humanly possible. At first glance it's actually a decent looking hotel and really had the potential to even be nice - except that every time I was forced to interact with one of the lifeless blood sucking hotel employees, I wanted to gouge my own eyes out. It almost feels like with each inquiry or request that they revel in the opportunity to shoot you down and with the kind condescension one can imagine enduring in your final moments in a serial killer's basement. Work on your beside manner guys... literally. If I were ever to recommend travel to a client for ANYWHERE near Bakersfield (right) I would absolutely never book a client here(unless of course I no longer intend to work with said client). Where do I start...two stars it's really a GIFT to this hotel. I figured because it was named Comfort Suites the rooms would be in above average shape. I found the room very old, dated and my room REEKED of Febreze!!! I'm so thankful the rooms window opened so it could be aired out while I went to pickup dinner. When I returned, I showered and attempted to turn on the TV but it wouldn't work. The nice man down at the counter (Gerad) was kind enough to change rooms for me but now I had to air out my NEW room, I was so tired and frustrated. The next morning I went down to the front desk to pick up my complementary breakfast bag which consisted of a bottled water, chemical laden danish and an orange. Better than nothing I guess. Upon returning to my room I caught one of the housekeeping staff entering my room!!! (DO NOT DISTURB sign was hanging on the doorknob) I asked her didn't you see the sign?! I couldn't understand her response so I asked her to please close the door and walk away, she complied. I'm not a hard person to please. I just thought the several bad experiences associated with this one night stay had to be shared. If it was nice hotel I would've stayed a second night but definitely NOT and never again! Horrible place to stay. There were bugs in the room they gave me - an earwig in the bed- and several dead in the room. When we checked out, they were all over the lobby too. When we mentioned it to the front desk lady, she shrugged her shoulders and said we know, we spray so they are dead. So hubs picked up a live one and said nope not all of them. She was unbothered. The posts in the bedroom had a red solution on it... not sure what that was. Even the lobby furniture was stained and needed a revamp. I always enjoy staying at Comfort Inn anywhere because of the spacious rooms, comfy beds, and really good free hot breakfast. This place meets all that I expect in a Comfort Inn. I found a good deal on their website for 1 queen, and upon check in I was upgraded to a 2 queen suite for no extra charge. Jessika, the front desk host is very personable, friendly, and goes out of her way to make sure your stay is great. The rooms are clean and housekeeping does a very good job. The complimentary WiFi and Ethernet connections are VERY fast for a hotel. You even get 3 WiFi connections to choose from and just choose the best signal. One of the fastest connections I've seen in a hotel. Free breakfast is great. Waffle machine, sausage, eggs, muffins, cereal...plenty of seating. Even when it's not breakfast, there's a lemon water dispenser in the lobby usually with a tray of cookies for free. Black Angus is in walking distance in case you need a drink and a meal. The highlight for me, but overall a very sad highlight, is that there is NO BED BUGS here. My past hotel visits in different places around Bakersfield had me believe every hotel was infested. Sad story. Got an email from choice offering 15% off that wasn't honored, even after I showed them the email. Front desk told me too bad too sad. And even though the guaranteed reservation quotes a single bed, they have me in a room with two beds. I guess they didn't hold one for me and gave it out to some other guy. They were also nice enough to charge my credit card an extra $100 just in case I smoke in the room. By the way 15% is a rip roaring $12! Really? They for just one more shot they added a $3.00 service fee to my bill at checkout. I asked what that was and the front desk (yes that same front desk person) told me it's a utility charge because the hotel doesn't control the air conditioning in the room. What hotel controls how hot or cold you make your room? Clearly one of those utilities is not wi-fi because it never worked. I had to tether my cell phone to use on my laptop. I only tell this story so that another poor road warrior might try another place to stay that actually wants you to come back. There are so many "choices"if you'll pardon the pun. My stay at the Comfort Suites has been, lets see...COMFORTABLE! (I stayed here for over 1 month straight) To start off, I have to mention the staff who, led by Manager Jay, are probably the MOST FRIENDLY group of individuals one could ask for when staying in a hotel. Each and every person that works on the Comfort Suites team will go out there way to make you stay as comfortable as possible. Second, the rooms I stayed in were SPACIOUS enough for me to be able to work out in. The beds seemed to be comfy, there is a mini fridge, the rooms have cable with HBO,and you have 3 choices of WiFi connections(in case the signal weakens). The overall noise level is also VERY LOW, so no worries about load people. There is a free breakfast that is offered, however, it is kind of mediocre, but FREE. Though, the waffle maker ROCKS!!! There is also a small fitness center, pool, hot tub, and business center, but I never used any of these. This place is great for a comfy stay if you are on business visiting Bakersfield; this is NOT family vacation resort, so don't come here thinking it will be. I gave this Comfort Suites the 4stars based on the GREAT customer service and comfortableness of the rooms. We got two king bed and queen bed configuration. That worked well for toddler and baby. Price reasonable at 159$. Breakfast is nothing to write home about but it's free so it's a nice amenity. There's a gym but I was bummed the two treadmill wouldn't turn on and the tv had no signal. So I wasted time trying to make it work but ended up riding the bike with my iPhone and personal Netflix. I really dislike writing negative reviews, but I have to adhere to the Yelp oath of objective honesty that I swore to when I joined (you didn't have to take an oath? Really? Hey, no fair...). My first clue should have been that the parking lot was empty when I drove in (I went for a convention, and this was the only hotel parking lot on the street that was nearly deserted). I think the staff at this Comfort Suites really try hard to make the traveler's experience a good one - and there were some things about the hotel that were good: 1. An attractive room- large, with a living area and a bed area, almost two rooms 2. The staff were friendly and helpful 3. Breakfast is included, and consists of cereal, oatmeal, fruit, waffles (make 'em yourself), bagels, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, juice, and coffee Now for the not-so-good: 1. The vending machine was empty 2. The soda machine was out of order 3. The jacuzzi was ice cold and not working - when I asked, I was told it hadn't been inspected yet, and offered a free pass to the 24 hour Fitness Center next door, which I took (this is kind of both a good and not-so-good thing) 4. The window in my room would only open 1/32nd of an inch wide; I like fresh air, and this was a problem for me 5. The pool overlooked the parking lot of John's Incredible Pizza - no attempt at landscaping Oh, did I mention the pillows? Instead of two rectangular-shaped pillows, there were five or six square pillows on the bed. To be fair, I didn't ask for different pillows, and tried to make due with the pillow extravaganza I was given, but here's the thing - I normally sleep with two pillows placed at ninety degree angles (one for my head, one parallel with my sleepy little body); I just couldn't make a decent pillow configuration with the square ones - I was up pretty much all night, throwing them all over the place, and nothing worked for me...! So, if you need to stay here, call first and make sure that the amenities (such as they are) are functioning - I dunno, it may just save your weekend. I constantly had to revise my short-term plans, such as going to the fitness center next door, instead of relaxing in the jacuzzi at the hotel, or going out to buy water, since the machine wasn't working. There are other hotels in the immediate area, such as the Doubletree and the Red Lion, which I have stayed at in the past, and which are fine - I got a very good price for my room, and in the future, must always repeat to myself "You get what you pay for....you get what you pay for...." read more

I got a room here with my mom because my dad was held overnight at the hospital. The people next door were having loud sex and playing loud music. I asked the front desk if we could change rooms or get a refund. They didn't have other rooms available and would not issue a refund because my complaint wasn't valid during non-quiet hours (4:30pm). I understand that but I asked what if I have a noise complaint during their quiet hours (9pm-7am) and they said they still wouldn't issue a refund. All they can do is tell the party to quiet down. Customer service is not compassionate or helpful at all. If you wanna have a orgy, this is the a great place to go but not if you're anxious cuz you have a family member in the hospital. read more

The last line of their Low Price guarantee is: "That sounds easy, doesn't it". Yes. It SOUNDS easy, but does this sound like they "proudly stand behind it"? NOT!!! OK. I am writing an addendum to the above: This is what I would have to have done to receive my $50 gift card: go to ChoiceHotels.com, scroll to the bottom, find "Services", click on "Best Rate", click on "Submit claim form", fill out a long claim form, submit it - all within 24 hours of my initial booking. Then what? Wait? And . . . I would have had to figure that out without the assistance of the many Choice Hotel operators with which I spoke. Good luck with that people. read more
