I've been frequenting the Spokane Valley location now for going on two years. The crew there is very friendly, and accommodating. As someone who works professionally in comics and illustration, comic book stores are akin to a blood pressure machine: It's where I go to engage with my industry, check its pulse and lifeblood, and this place has been an ideal solution for all of the above. Anything that isn't on their very generous rack of new releases can be very easily ordered/subscribed to, with the added benefit of a 10% subscriber discount. They also have a very good selection of graphic novels and collected trade editions, both new and used. My only complaint is that I have to drive a long @$$ way to get there--*deep sigh* I live in North Idaho--but this store has been a tentpole to my continued sanity. North Idaho, as its name implies, doesn't put a lot of value on entertainment arts and culture (in my experience). Having a place like this even remotely nearby (about 2 hours drive from my house, but only 20 minutes from my work at North Idaho College) has helped make life worth living for me. I don't know that it's the only shop of its kind up this way, but it is certainly the best. read more

If you're ever in the north town mall definitely check out this comic book store they have all kinds of amazing things. Anything from clothes to cups, comics cosplay things huge selection of anime manga. They have helpful friendly employees to help you find anything throughout the store and/or can be ordered. They have a couple figures but if it's not in stock definitely can be ordered in the store. The store is self is very clean and well organized new issues are bagged in sealed. Despite being 30 miles from my house, this is my comic shop of choice! The staff is always friendly and they have a decent buyback program. It's rare that I don't find what I'm looking for at the Division store. Because it's a little closer to home (only 20 miles), my subscription box is at the Valley store... where the staff are also great people. The owner of both stores is a great guy who lets his staff do their thing while making sure they are knowledgeable. read more

This was a great shop. I was passing through town and stopped in. Pretty good back issue and comic selection. I appreciated the vintage toys and cards they had there. Definitely separated it from other shops. Average to above average graphic novel collection. If you're rolling through Spokane and want to hit up a shop.... this would be the one. My son received $20 from a coworker for his birthday! I told him whatever you want! It's yours! We came in and told the guy to show us what we could get for $20, he took his time and showed us each section of the store and what was available for my son. After collecting 2 arm fulls of stuff, on our way back to the counter, my son kept putting things back. By the time that we got to the counter he had 1 pack of Marvel cards. His heart was content but he said that he was going to save his money for something bigger! The man was very patient with us and very friendly! Thank you again kind sir, we will be back! My girlfriend and I are avid comic book readers, and we love digging through old Comic Defender boxes for that rare gem or picking up the latest issue of Batman and/or the Green Lantern, however the Comic Book Shop is severely lacking in several key areas. Their staff are always surly, and rarely are at the counter. Ninety-nine percent of the time they're talking with friends or playing Magic or some other card game. They never greet customers, ask if they need help finding anything, or even engage the customer about their products. Their back issued comics are ridiculously expensive, and their "sweet deals" are throw away comics that they just haphazardly throw into a box and called a deal. I definitely wouldn't recommend the Comic Book Shop to anyone. Head to Merlyn's downtown on Main Street and buy your new comics for ten-percent off the cover price, and they are constantly updating their back issued comics and they're always alphabetized and by company. John Waite the owner of Merlyn's is incredibly friendly and his staff have great product knowledge and are always willing to help. I believe that the main proprietors at the Comic Book Shop are Andy, Matt, and Patrick and I've seen more personality from elderly Wal*Mart greeters on Black Friday. They seriously need to work on their customer service. As a fellow retail employee I am ashamed to say that they are in the same business, and because of their lack of respect and customer service I refuse to go there any longer. read more

This pusher got me hooked on their product. I kicked my comic book habit to the curb back in 1991. I have been benzene, gloss, ink, and wood pulp free for 19 years. After visiting The Comic Book Shop, I became hooked. They start you off with the free sample comics. Then you start looking at the silver age comics in the case with a great deal of envy. Pretty soon, your picking up graphic novels and catching up on old series you missed for the past decade. You will know you have hit rock bottom when, you start a monthly subscription box. But seriously, this is a really nice shop. It's clean and organized. All of the issues come bagged. They have a lot of nice new issues. I really appreciate the staff recommendations. If you feel like doing some light reading, and looking at some creative and skilled drawing, don't be afraid to pick up a few issues. Just be careful. read more

I visited the comic book shop in the mall, and was deeply disappointed. The customer service is SEVERELY lacking, the store is understaffed for such a large location, and the employees that I have come in contact with during my two visits are lacking ANY comic or knowledge of the store products at all. I'm done with this shop. The first time, I went in there for a Batman book for my son, one of the two employees, who looked like brothers, working a Saturday night during the holiday season was just staring off into space behind the counter not helping anyone and completely ignoring people. I had to ask the one other employee after he was done with a customers to help. The second time just a few days later I go in and ask this young girl about some other comics on his list, she had NO IDEA what I was talking about. I don't think she knew about a single product that was in the store. I was so frustrated I just left and ordered my stuff online. Having only two people work a Saturday during the holiday season, on top having employees that don't know anything about the products? It is a specialty store, the employees should know what they are talking about, that's why I came to a comic book shop instead of Barnes and Noble or Hastings. I can't bring myself to go in there again. Which is a shame because they have a pretty awesome stock of comic book merchandise. read more

We came in on my brother's birthday and they told us about how you could play Pokemon and learn in the store on certain days with other fans. Spokane is seriously comic book deprived. This is a decent place. I've seen better selection, and better staff in Seattle by far. The selection really depends on what you are looking for I guess... I don't read the typical stuff (I'm more of a Castle Waiting, Grease Monkey, American Born Chinese, Palestine kind of guy) and I find that they don't cover my interests well. I have to say that I prefer them over Merlins though. Merlins has a suffocating old-boy's-club feel to it, or at least they did some years ago. I never want to go there again. The comic book shop also has a branch located in Northtown Mall, and I actually prefer it over the main store. Once you get over the fact that it is in the mall (which feels almost like a betrayal) you realize that the place has a lot going for it. The staff I've interacted with are really low-key and friendly. I don't read a lot of manga anymore, but I do admire their selection: they have some titles that I found surprising and often have all the volumes in a series available, which is rare. They also have a bunch of tables for people to come in and play card games like magic, board games, or table top RPGs. I find it odd that they carry puzzles, but I guess it is because they are in the mall and they are trying to appeal to a wider audience. read more

I came back to Spokane with the military about 17 years ago. For two years I endured a comics store that didn't recognize me or the fact that I had a subscription. After I left for Korea for a year and returned, I decided to start with the Comic Book Shop. I was recognized the second time I came in and by the third visit, even though I'd not set up a subscription yet, Craig and Matt knew my preferences in comics. We still live in a time when most comic book shop owners have a very negative impression. In the nearly 15 years I've been coming, Craig and his staff have always...ALWAYS... been extremely friendly, helpful, and kept a sense of humor. Say what you want about what pricing should be for back issues (though I will say they are in line with the vast majority of comic book shops you will find.) The organization of those back issue bins is much simpler then most places I've been to. The most important thing a comic book shop can have though is customer service and a strong rapport with its customer base, and that's what you're going to find here. The Comic Book Shop is our go to place to check out board games and anime stuff. We've purchased everything from Tshirts, socks, mugs, books, many many a board game and even a few novelties here and there. It's everything you want from a shop like this with bright colors popping out at you from every angle. Games tend to be a little pricier than what you can find some for online but I prefer actually going in and putting my hands on the games when I decide to buy one. read more

I just spent 3 weeks traveling from Los Angeles to Spokane. I probably visited 50+ stores. This store is definitely in my top 3 best stores I visited. The best selection of wall/key comics I'd seen in awhile. Ton of back issues and lots of toys and collectibles. The weekly books are always bagged and in good condition, and there is always a selection of mid tier variants. Only downfalls are the good variants are usually sold online, and it's not easy to haggle here either. Keep an eye out for sales and appreciate the large inventory and you will be pleased. read more

Nice selection, but prices are quite high considering that back issues are basically dead stock inventory. Common 15 year old back issues should NOT be above cover price unless they are of significance. Oh well~Like many so-called comic book stores nowadays, The Comic Book Shop seems to cater to comic-related products such as: toys, apparel, posters, statues, and the like. If that's what you're looking for, then by all means, this is the place for you, but for someone like me that like to hunt for back issues from their youth, I'll go elsewhere. read more

The Comic Book Shop is the only place to go for all your comic and collectible paraphernalia needs in the Eastern Washington area. The staff are all helpful and hilarious, the back issue selection is amazing (and if they don't have it they will try to find it for you), the prices are fair and not only do they have the largest selection of graphic novels I have ever seen, but they sell used graphic novels at a very discounted price as well. Being the kind of person that needs to stop in any and every comic and collectibles store I encounter, I have seen a wide variety of shops. This is the best comic shop I've ever been to in the 30+ years I've been buying comics. The selection of books is varied and vast, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The shop is clean, features a nice selection, and is well organized. What really caught my attention was the service. Both men behind the counter were genuinely friendly. One of the books I was looking for wasn't on the shelf and they went to great lengths to look for it, find out why it wasn't available, and then order it for me.
