Cute, small. I never ate there. Outside dining available. Lots of amazing salads. Other shops to explore near by.

Waupaca,WI. I have been walking by Sulten Belly for at…read moreleast a year, not aware of the good things going on in there. There is some special food to be had in this part of Wisconsin, I am a huge fan of the Green Fountain Inn and the Secret Garden just a few blocks away, and now Sulten Belly. We were greeted as we entered and given some clarity of the process so there was no confusion. I liked that we found a seat and took our time with the menu before I went to the ordering station, ordered, paid, and received a number for the table. I'm not exactly pleased with the modern method of tipping before you even see the food, but I paid cash so I could add more to the tip jar if deserved. Oh yeah, if you pay by card they tack on 4%. Bring your cash, they discourage cards. Where I live (Laguna Beach, CA) , some restaurants are the other way. They are not accepting cash and only take alternate card or digital payments. I ordered Mr. Beefy, a delicious smoked beef tenderloin panini sandwich with melted provolone cheese that really hit the spot. The beef tasted like it had been braised in wine, just wonderful for $16.50. Also excellent was the Sulten Belly Favorite Salad that was with assorted fresh greens and bacon, $13.50. The staff here were all friendly and helpful. It was a nice cozy vibe without the bright lights. I will be back. They also have premade frozen dishes available that look pretty good.

How does one define "best"? Would I need to try every single eatery in a geographic area to base my…read moreassumptions on? While I can't confidently say this is the best joint in Wisconsin, it certainly has to be up there insofar as central Wisconsin establishments. The lasagna, being so meaty, hearty and flavorful you'd swear it came from an authentic Italian hole-in-the-wall. The pulled pork (drenched in their bbq sauce) just shines as bright as any respectful bbq place. The barbecue pastrami sandwich (go figure), was pretty insane, too. No, I haven't been to every supper club or obscure restaurant in Central Wisconsin. But having frequented "up north Wisconsin" (family owns a lake house up there) since I was 5 years old, not once could I remember a place that I felt had better food. Whenever I make the trek up from Illinois, I always stop in, as well as grab one of their frozen lasagnas or bbq chili bowls to go. That's saying something.

Their daily specials are generally inventive like Strawberry Rhubarb Fat French Toast, Pot Roast Omelette, Beet Panini, etc. They usually have equally interesting drink options such as the caramel apple latte, which was divine. They also are a full fledged bake shop, making all of their breads and cakes and pastries in house. All of it is worth checking out. Here's a place with a commitment to super high quality, better than average cafe fare, at a good price and friendly service. I always stop here whenever I go into upper WI to fish.

We arrived around 9 am on a Wednesday and it was very busy--they had already sold out of one of the breakfast specials. That said, we were still seated right away and had water and our chosen beverages in front of us in a jiffy (and my coffee was topped off regularly). Dawn was our server and she was very pleasant and helpful when I had a question about the menu. My guy had two blueberry pancakes with bacon, and I had biscuits & gravy with hash browns. The pancakes were fluffy and satisfying, and the biscuits & gravy were packed full of flavor. LFG's breakfast was delicious, and a great price!

We stopped at Rose Garden Family Restaurant in Waupaca for breakfast this morning before heading to…read moredrop the kids off, and it was one of the most uncomfortable restaurant experiences we've had. When we arrived, there were only two occupied tables, so the restaurant was not busy. Despite that, no one greeted us or offered to seat us. I eventually had to approach an employee myself to ask where we should sit and was simply told, "Sit wherever." From where we were standing and later sitting, we could see the wait staff gathered together behind the counter. They appeared to be discussing our table, pointing in our direction, and seemingly arguing over who was going to serve us. It was obvious that no one wanted to come to our table. After about 10 minutes, someone finally dropped off waters and menus without much interaction and walked away. We then continued waiting while customers who arrived after us were greeted, had their orders taken, received their drinks, and were served before anyone returned to take our order. By the time our order was taken, we had been there for about 20 minutes. After our food was delivered, no one checked on us again. We never received refills or were asked if we needed anything. When we were ready to leave, we had to ask for our check while we were already walking toward the door because no one came back to our table. As we left, one of the children politely said, "Bye" to a waitress. Instead of acknowledging the child or saying goodbye, the waitress laughed. My husband and children are Native American. I cannot say with certainty why we were treated this way, but based on everything we experienced--from being ignored when the restaurant was nearly empty, watching the staff appear to debate who would serve us, being consistently overlooked while other customers were helped, and the dismissive behavior throughout--it left us feeling that we were treated differently because of who we are. Most importantly, we did not feel welcome, and by the end of the experience, we did not feel safe or comfortable staying there. No family should leave a restaurant feeling singled out, unwelcome, or questioning whether they belong. Whether this treatment was intentional or not, it had that effect on us. We hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously so that no other family has a similar experience.

It seems like a fun place to bowl as the lanes are very nice. There is a large bar and a few slot machines around the alley. The gentleman taking my order wasn't accommodating at all. Perhaps, he didn't know that I'd never been there, but as a business owner, you should always treat your customers as if it was their first time to visit your establishment. Before moving to Wisconsin, I'd never heard of broasted chicken, but my husband has always talked about it because he knows I love fried chicken. When I saw it in the menu, I knew that it had to be ordered. It took about 15 minutes and when it arrived, the first thing I noticed was how crispy the skin looked. I ordered dark meat because I love chicken thighs. The chicken was spot on awesome! I did have to S&P it but the flavor was still very good. The chicken was so juicy but not greasy which I love. I ordered potato wedges and coleslaw to go with it. The wedges were probably the frozen ones but very crispy and crunchy along the edges. The coleslaw was savory/sweet and one I've missed from living in Texas. All the coleslaws that I've had up here are savory and not enjoyable. This meal was very good. I'll definitely go again and probably order the broasted chicken. My husband enjoys bowling here over where we go on Saturdays for our couple bowling league as the lanes at Waupaca bowl are nicely oiled. It's also larger and the tables at the lanes are more inviting to visiting while bowling. I'd like to try bowling here one evening too.
