We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.

It was loud and it was hard to hear what others were saying. Still we had fun. The music was great (I commented that some of the music was older than most of the patron lol). We did not try any food but the drinks were great. I had a French 75 and loved it.

I ordered a classic blt and it was a big size and came with a salad and I also had the banana matcha latte which was good too. I would try something else the next time. I know that they also have a bar and service alcoholic drinks as well. Service was good.

I ordered the Iced Pistachio Latte - Espresso, pistachio, milk, ice, pistachio cold foam and the California Omelet- Egg whites, sauteed kale, mushrooms, avocado. She ordered the Llama Bowl - Organic fair trade acai, bananas, strawberries, 100% pineapple juice, granola, bananas, blueberries, strawberries and the Iced Mango Matcha Latte. Everything was delicious and there were several offerings for my friend who is gluten-free, which was a major plus. The service was great - answered all of our questions, offered suggestions, etc. The serving sizes were good size - I was pleasantly surprised the omelet came with potatoes and toast (there weren't pictures on Yelp yet - so happy I can add one)! There was also a selection of hot sauces to add to your meal too. Space was open with high ceilings and lots of natural light! Few tables to sit at our different bar spots. They offer WiFi for their customers as well.

Their menu is simple with all the espresso classics, but they also had some interesting drinks that I wanted to try. I got the ELDERBERRY MATCHA since I was curious about the combination. The barista recommended whole milk (or non-dairy milk) since it doesn't take away from the elderberry and matcha flavors as much as non-dairy milk, and I completely agreed! The elderberry syrup popped through the matcha and it wasn't too sweet! The drink overall was very enjoyable and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. I'm glad I stopped by to give this cafe a try this past Saturday afternoon.

Their iced Vietnamese latte is pretty good during the summer time... and I've also tried hot Vietnamese latte, which is alright and pretty much an average taste. They usually have a rotating flavor for latte specials such as matcha latte or elderberry matcha latte for example. They are not too bad and just unique. But I'd settle down for a regular latte instead of being adventurous on different tasting from this coffee shop. Alternative milk costs about extra $0.75 if you desire something more than just milk in your latte, just for your information. Service is quick and simple. The barista is friendly and interactive when you order something.
