This place is amazing! I would have not have thought about eating at a library. The staff was super friendly and had a very warm feeling about them. They have sandwich and salad options. As a minimum get your coffee, latte, specialty drink here. It's so much cheaper than the places nearby especially for being in DC's downtown. Plus there are tons of places for a group to meet up. You can even grab a book to relax. Again, this is a surprisingly nice downtown spot in DC. It's one of the better libraries I've seen.

I'm sorry, but Marianne's is not it. By DC Central Kitchen, the organization provides on-the-job training and a hospitality apprenticeship to youth and adults that are facing obstacles to employment and housing - such a great mission! This eatery is located on the 1st floor of the MLK Jr. Memorial Library, and they offer a menu that offers various beverages, pastries, breakfast, snacks and sides, salads, and sandwiches, along with featured specials (when I went, they had Chicken Taco Salad and a Fresh Summer Salad). I had a pre-order of: +the Jerk Chicken Sandwich - a brioche bun filled with jerk chicken, with side cups of Caribbean slaw and jerk sauce; the bun seemed more of like a wheat bun, as it was definitely not fluffy, light, or buttery, but more on the dry side; the chicken 'strips' that the bun contained had no flavor nor sauce; the jerk sauce that was on the side didn't help, and it was of a thin consistency; the Caribbean slaw was red cabbage-focused, but hardly any flavors nor seasonings; it also didn't seem to be pickled long enough +chips and a canned soda The sandwich itself was just below average; the chicken itself was just super dried out, almost to the point of jerky consistency. The staff just chooses the flavor of the chips for you, but you can kindly request them to swap out for the one you actually wanted. Canned soda is not that cold, so ask for a cup of ice. Staff were fine, but they seemed extremely overwhelmed; there was a lack of communication, and orders were being mixed up, gone missing, offered to other patrons, etc. There's some tables and counter seating available, but during the lunch rush, it does become filled quickly. I'm glad I gave Marianne's a try, but definitely would not return. +dried-out sandwiches +unorganized staff +seating available +located on the 1st floor of the MLK Jr. Memorial Library +metered street and garage parking available

I'm going to give Marianne's a holler because they were a perfect way for me to start my trip in DC. Not too far from where I'm staying, they offer shockingly affordable prices for coffee and breakfast items. I had an 8oz black coffee and a egg and cheese croissant and spent a total of $4. WHAT! Unheard of! But all solid, basic, necessary. Located inside the MLK public library, make sure to support Marianne's. I'm a fan!!! I support you all. Thank you for greeting me (a visitor) with a smile and steaming hot food and coffee.

The name Marianne is in honor of the woman who trained many hospitality workers under an apprenticeship program! I love the name :). The cafe is in the right atrium as you walk into the MLK Library, and is a small, inexpensive cafe (coffee is $1), with foods provided by the DC Central Kitchen. This cafe employs people under an apprenticeship program in hospitality. I ordered a cesar salad with grilled chicken. It was a fairly simple salad, but solid for only $8. A quaint place with a powerful mission of empowering our youth communities. I will continue to support this cafe :)

Love, love, love this place. There are only a handful of restaurants I rotate every single week,…read moreand Ted's Bulletin in NoMa is always in that rotation. At this point, I'm basically a Ted's groupie. The NoMa location has that perfect blend of retro diner charm and modern comfort. Warm lighting, cozy booths, and a lively-but-not-chaotic energy make it one of those spots where you can settle in and instantly feel at ease. The service is consistently great; friendly, quick, and genuinely attentive which is rare these days. And the food? Always on point. Let's Get Into It! Their Chicken Parmesan is one of those comfort dishes that never disappoints. The chicken comes out crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, topped with a bright marinara and a generous layer of melted mozzarella that gives you that perfect cheese pull. It's hearty, satisfying, and exactly what you want when you're craving something warm and familiar. I've tried other dishes but the Chicken Parmesan is the best! But Ted's really shines at breakfast and breakfast is ALL DAY! Whether it's their classic eggs‑and‑bacon plates, fluffy pancakes, or the breakfast‑all‑day favorites they're known for, everything tastes like it was made with intention. It's nostalgic diner food, but elevated the kind of breakfast that makes you slow down and enjoy it. Ted's Bulletin NoMa is reliable, welcoming, and effortlessly consistent. It's the kind of place that becomes part of your weekly routine without you even realizing it. If you're looking for a true neighborhood favorite, this is it. I'll be here like I always am as a plus one, solo, or even date night! I'm here!

An Elegant Breakfast Spot with Wonderful Staff (Just Mind the Checkout)…read moreThe Atmosphere & First Impressions High-End Finishes: The restaurant is beautifully designed with high-end finishes, creating a very upscale environment. Impeccably Clean: Upon arriving, we immediately noticed how clean and well-maintained the entire space was. Warm Welcome: The hostess was incredibly kind and set a great tone for our breakfast. The Food & Service Fantastic Menu: The menu offers a wonderful assortment of options. We were originally drawn in because we were excited to try their homemade Pop-Tart! Accommodating & Kind: Our waiter was a very nice gentleman. The kitchen was more than happy to make small adjustments to our orders for dietary needs, which we deeply appreciated. Kudos to the Staff: The waitstaff does a phenomenal job, especially considering the clientele. This area tends to attract a lot of pompous professionals, and we witnessed customers being incredibly rude to the staff on two back-to-back visits. A Note on the Crowd: For example, we were in on a Thursday afternoon and watched a large group of business professionals completely ignore their server. They wouldn't even acknowledge them or say thank you. It felt like olden times, where the staff were treated like servants to a king or queen and were just expected to take abuse. It was really bad. A Quick Note on the Checkout Process Rushed Payment: The payment process felt a bit rushed. The server hands you a small payment machine and quickly pushes you to complete the transaction right then and there. Keep an Eye Out: We aren't the type of people to scrutinize a bill closely--if it's right around the expected amount, we don't worry about it. However, the lady at the table right before us was loudly complaining about a service fee on her bill, and she ended up not leaving a tip at all because of it. Combined with how fast they push the payment machine on you, it might be worth taking a quick second to look over your total if you are the type of person who likes to verify the fine print. Come on people, do better! Overall Impression It is an expensive spot, but the food quality, cleanliness, and excellent service from the waitstaff make it worth a visit. The staff handles a tough crowd beautifully!

But the real magic arrives on the plate. Every dish we tried showcased fresh, high-quality ingredients, layered flavors, and a clear respect for the rich culinary heritage of the Ottoman and Istanbul royal family traditions. You can taste the care and legacy behind every recipe. The restaurant business is tough, so I drafted this review with a bit of sadness. I had a good time…read morein large part due to the atmosphere and my date (my girlfriend). That said, a couple missteps that should not have occurred took this review into the negative realm. Let's start with the positive. This appears to be a great new addition to the neighborhood, and I hope it is supported. The appetizers were delicious and nicely presented. The pistachio feta with grilled pita was tasty and interesting. The halloumi with orange marmalade was as well. The hostess was engaging and friendly. The atmosphere was calming with a touch of casual refinement. One of the entrees was delicious (the scallops and grits). I'd order all three items mentioned so far, again. The negative. The second entree was the short rib. It was tender and.... Wow, way too salty. A shame because it was otherwise well cooked and nicely plated. But whoa. When the hostess came by, my girlfriend kindly said it was a bit salty. I "refined" her answer and said she was being nice, but it was very salty. The hostess went to note this for the kitchen (a positive for her), and because we are on the first floor outside the kitchen window I heard the conversation. The chef responded that he knew what had happened. Earlier when preparing the short rib someone (in his words) blasted it with salt. What this tells me is that they knew they'd made something close to inedible but served it anyway. At the end of our meal we had leftovers of the two apps and the short rib. We asked for a bit of extra pita to take home and they provided. Then the bill arrived. Not only was there no adjustment for the inedible short rib, but they charged us $2 for the pita. The least they could have done was just given us the pita. Ah well. Those two missteps; 1) serving a known and improperly prepared entree, and 2) not doing something to make good when reported, have led to this sadly negative review for a place that could and should have gotten a positive one. Hopefully someone there will see this, and the experience and review will be a learning opportunity that will help them thrive.
