The coffee shop is beautiful, but it is very basic coffee. We were staying at The Thompson, and maman was a very short walk from the hotel. While the shop looks amazing, the coffee was extremely basic. I ordered an iced latte and I could not taste the espresso. The cinnamon Kouign-amann was extremely dry, as was the chocolate chip cookie. When you tried to break the cookie in half it essentially exploded into crumbs. They do have a lot of seating, but there were many single people taking up 4-person tables so it was difficult to find a place for 4 of us to sit. The staff wasn't unpleasant, but they also were not very friendly. They did keep the line moving as fast as they could. Again, the shop is beautiful and bright. The branding on their bags is adorable. Their cutlery is wrapped and there is washi tape with their name on it holding it together. Their drinks and food are served on very nice dishes. Fun coffee spot to go to with a French flair. You can't go wrong with the coffee here. The pastries are fancy looking but there's really only one option that will never disappoint, the pistachio croissant, that one is excellent. Also, the omelettes look so good, and guess what they taste good too. One of the more efficient mamans in the DMV area. Menu is like all the other mamans are decent - something for almost everyone. We went twice during our stay nearby - once for an afternoon pick me up and again for breakfast. The date latte was entirely lacking. I've ordered the same drink in NYC and tasted so much better. The next morning, ordered a flag white, which also turned out to be one of the more disappointing flat whites ever. The tables both inside and outside were filthy. The sanche was pretty basic and I should've probably ordered the other breakfast sandwich that one looked a little bit better I also had the pistachio tea cake and it was just very dry. Went to the Navy Yard Maman for the first time on Saturday. Very similar vibe as the other Maman's that I've gone to, though this one seemed less busy than the others - a plus! We placed our orders and found a table right away. I enjoyed one of the World Cup Pastries - Argentina - that had a guava filling. It was really good and creative. The toasted s'mores croissant cube also caught my eye, but will have to try that one another time. We appreciate the gluten free offerings as well! We ordered peach pie matcha and an iced chai latte both with almond milk. When we got the matcha, it definitely was made with dairy milk. They were willing to remake quickly. The chai latte was alright. Felt watered down quite a bit so will likely try something different next time. A nice place to grab a coffee and catch up! I like that they do salads for breakfast and have clear dietary labeling; most French-ish places don't offer much in the way of vegetarian options. My bowl with quinoa and chickpeas had more sweet potatoes than I expected, but overall an interesting and nutritionally useful mix. Ordering a vegan carrot cake with streusel got me a bit of indulgence, and a hot chocolate with oat milk delivered on flavor but wasn't huge. Had to go up several times to ask them for utensils, napkins, condiments, and more water. They had water at a station but they keep running out or other customers take it to their table. Food was mediocre at best. The Belgian waffles could have been better if they put the strawberry paste on the side. My daughter described it as toothpaste because of the texture. Very thick, sweet, and minty. The grilled chicken was a few pieces of something rubbery that's overcooked. Extremely dry. Needs a warning for choking hazard. On the other hand, the home fries weren't so bad. Had more moisture than their grilled chicken. For the price you pay, I expected better quality. The best thing we've had from their menu was the cornbread latte and the lavender tea. I wouldn't go back there for food, but their drinks are something I would return for. My soup bowl arrived with multiple chips and sharp edges, which made me uneasy about the possibility of encountering glass or other hazards while eating. I politely brought this to the attention of two times and was assured that a replacement would be provided, but unfortunately, it never arrived. After a third request--prompted by discovering a sharp, gritty object in the bowl--I asked to have the order remade to go. Thankfully, the kind staff member (Darwin) honored that request.
