Ordered: - First in Flight - flight of 4 espresso martinis - Bartenders choice - Friend asked for Tequila inspired and she loved it. - Calamari was lightly fried, delicious and well seasoned. They should include a side of the sauce instead of it only being on the plate. - Burger - Friends ordered Medium, had to send back it was well done. 2nd came out Medium well but it was close. Stumbled upon Runaway Whisky and Wine while looking for a spot to kill some time before a flight, and wow--what a find. The atmosphere is moody-chic in the best way, with dark walls, glowing chandeliers, and a cozy, elevated vibe. We tried the espresso flights, which were delicious and not overly sweet. The heated espresso ended up being our favorite. I ordered the avocado toast and absolutely loved the combination of avocado, pickled onions, salmon, and feta. My husband asked for a bartender's choice--essentially their take on a Penicillin--and it was perfect. My sister went with the chicken wrap and had zero complaints. The cocktails I tried were delicious and thoughtfully crafted. This isn't the place you're going to order a tequila soda or a beer - try the cocktails! The espresso martini was absolutely delicious. They also have espresso martini flights! For brunch, they do mimosa flights as well. They do have a brunch menu with some classics like steak and eggs and avocado toast. Amazing experience for the most part. They were short staffed this night due to some staff call outs but the service was still good. Our wait to place our order was long because of this. But once we did the food came out pretty quickly. The chief even helped bring food out. Good teamwork is always important. I got the Deco dips and both my friends got the Wagyu burger. We loved this place the minute we walked in! It has a wonderful ambiance, reminiscent of art deco New York. We started off with drinks. Nice wine list and some fun cocktails, but we were getting g on a plane after so we weren't able to indulge. For appetizers we got the potato croquettes and the crab corn fritters. The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. It was served with a delicious garlic aioli that was the perfect touch. The crab corn fritters were also good. I would have preferred more chunky texture. It was very smooth which I think took away from the separate ingredients. I didn't even see or taste corn. But it still tasted good. For dinner we had steak and potatoes and the Wagyu burger. The steak tasted fine but the cut was strange. It was almost like pot roast cut to mimic a steak. It was also cut very thin... too thin for the price. The potato's were good and the sautéed carrots were also good. The wagyu burger was delicious and was served with onion jam. It was huge and made for great leftovers the next day. I would definitely go back but probably stick to the appetizers and drinks.... And maybe the burger read more

I gave a 4 stars on the food as the salmon could use a little more flavor and I wasn't asked what temperature I would like. However the butternut squash and greens were delicious and the drink very good. The mixologist took my custom request for a cocktail and made it to perfection. My fiancé and I had a wonderful time at the Runaway. In my opinion, the drinks were a little steeper than I'd like, but overall it was an AMAZING time. We ordered the tuna tartare, the crab fritters, and we both got the steak for dinner. Everything came out well and in an appropriate amount of time. Our server was also our bartender, which was awesome because he could customize cocktails. Our only complaints would be the overall cost of the drinks themselves and there was quite a bit of dust everywhere. An old fashioned was about $21 with Old Forrester Rye and the espresso martini flight was $40. My hubby wanted to go on a date. He had heard good things about Runaway Whiskey & Wine. He booked a reservation and off we went. When we pulled up to the building, we thought that it resembled business park. Upon entry, we walked into a freshly decorated and intimate but fairly small environment. I loved the large chandeliers, however. We were seated promptly and welcomed by a chipper waiter by the name of Jeremiah. He was enthusiastic and pleasant. He greeted us and recommended some great options to start with such as the corn and crab fritters and he also recommended the First in Flight. We ordered the devil eggs, corn and crab fritters, the bambino curse, and I ordered the First in Flight. The deviled eggs arrived first. They were absolutely delicious. The prosciutto gave the dish the salt it needed, and the mustard seeds and radishes balanced out the flavor. Overall 4/5 between the hubby and I. We recommend adding caviar to earn the next star. Next we received our drinks. I ordered the First in Flight and my hubby ordered the Bambino Curse My hubby said the Bambino Curse was delicious. His overall rating is a 4/5. He said the flavor was good but it wasn't amazing. I rated the First in Flight a 3.5/5. The Spirit of St. Louis was my least favorite. I didn't care for the cayenne; however, I do understand why it was in the drink. The Health Resort in Omaha was my favorite. I love that it was served warm. Our second appetizer came out, the Corn and Crab Fritters. My hubby was skeptical because he does not like crab (oh the horror); however, we both absolutely loved them. They were divine. We bother ranked them a 5/5. We received our entrees. I ordered the Salmon with the butternut squash puree. My hubby ordered the Wagyu & Frites. My salmon was cooked well. It was flaky and flavorful; however, it was a little on the salty side. The butternut squash puree paired well with the salmon. Overall, 4/5. My hubby said the wagyu burger was so cooked to the perfect temperature and was extremely flavorful. The fries were seasoned well too. He rated his meal a 5/5. My hubby ordered the Bartender's Choice. He said the drink was basically a whiskey sour. He also said it was a good whiskey sour, but he was looking for more creativity. Ranking 4/5. Finally, I ordered All The Queens Men. My hubby asked for Cat's Pajamas. We received the drinks and tasted each other's drink. We ended up switching drinks. I preferred Cat's Pajamas and he loved the taste of All The Queens Men. All The Queens Men was extremely strong and bold in flavor which my hubby enjoyed. I enjoyed the toned down and laid back flavor of Cat's Pajamas. Overall we gave both drinks a 4/5. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Runaway Whiskey & Wine. Jeremiah, our waiter was wonderful. He was personable, relatable, and exudes professionalism. He gave great recommendations and checked on us the perfect amount of times. Overall, Jeremiah receives a 5/5 for his unparalleled customer service. This guy deserves a raise because he was just that good. We highly recommend Runaway Whiskey & Wine. Been wanting to check this spot out for a while, so we made it a date night/pre-birthday dinner. I fell in love with the beautiful decor and the atmosphere was very chill. I had been wanting to try the espresso flight, but decided to try One Night in Paris and it was absolutely amazing! First, we tried the potato croquette and corn crab fitters and was blown away by how great it tastes. Our waiter, Jeremiah, suggested it and informed us that it was some popular items. The calamari was tasty, and the shaved Brussels sprout salad was fresh, though I wish the dressing had a bit more punch. Now I'm usually a wine and champagne girl (and they have a wonderful selection of those), but I opted for a cocktail first because, in a place such as this, you must. I really enjoyed the Romance of the Unusual. It's made with peanut diplomatico rum, banana cordial, ginger cordial, pineapple cordial, pistachio Cocchi dopo, and lime, but all I can tell you is it's damn tasty. One of those refreshingly balanced concoctions that you just know will sneak up on you if you're not careful. Allow the mixologists to surprise you with something fun & special too (as you'll see below) FOOD: Shaved Brussels sprouts salad with toasted almonds, cider vinaigrette, shaved pecorino, pomegranate, and arugula was fine...I'd like more dressing tho. Corn crab fritters with chipotle aioli, arugula, lemon vinaigrette & potato croquette were the stars of the show. Absolutely filling and addictive. We went for Sunday brunch at 10 am (their reservation system doesn't start til 11 am) and were the only people in there for the first hour. Service was solid and the place is beautiful, intimate and luxurious. We started with the cronuts with Nutella, which were maybe the best cronuts I've ever had? For mains, my husband got the avocado toast, and he said was one of the best he's had in Charlotte. I got the chicken and waffles, which came with a presentation of lighting them on fire, and then I had to use the syrup to put it out... super weird and a little stressful, and my food smelled like smoke. The fry on the chicken was overdone for me (unrelated to the lighter!), and the waffle sorta tasted like it was out of a box. Parking is easy in the lot but a note that Runaway is on the backside of the Streetcar building, so it's a little tricky to find. We'll definitely try it out for dinner and brunch again - I'll just order something different. read more

The pretzel was good. The deviled eggs are ok the watermelon radish was interesting. The Tuna tartare Good, Cheese & Charcuterie ok but not really a $28 plate. the burger completely overcooked grey is not medium. The Brussels salad a bitter plat of food. The Espresso Martini Flight, was more like 4 coffee drinks. For example the first is an Irish coffee. While interesting $45 for the flight.... Just around the corner! I was visiting Charlotte for work and came early to spend time with a friend who just moved. We made reservations at Runaway after seeing their espresso martini flight on IG. We were surprised to learn this new restaurant is about a 5 minute drive from her house. We arrived at 730 and were seated immediately at a corner table with a view of the entire restaurant and patio. The place is a lot smaller than we thought with about 15-20 tables and approximately 12 -14 seats at the bar. We started with the espresso martini flight, crab fritters and shaved Brussel sprout salad. The espresso martini flight came out with four tastings (full cocktails available on their menu) with a variety of "takes" on the traditional drink some with Hennessy, rum, mezcal and spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. Overall the espresso flight had too many flavors and some of the liquors used didn't go down easy. When we shared with our waitress we didn't really care for it she was really nice and offered to change it to something else. I opted for a glass of wine which was served in a lovely glass an and paired well with my steak. My friend ordered the burger and frites for her entree and it was a large portion and she said it was lovely. The steak and potatoes was so amazing I nearly finished the whole plate the carrots and truffle aioli with the brown sauce made it extra tasty and the petite filet was the perfect size for me. I really enjoyed Runaway and I'm hoping if I'm ever back in town we can get a spot on their patio near the fire pits. Went to this place with some girlfriends and it was very delicious. The ambience was great. It wasn't too loud. We had delicious drinks and the food was great for sharing. To drink I had both bourbon based drinks...one was a Mike's pecan and cinnamon and the other was more traditional old fashioned called "the cats pajamas". Both amazing and I would definitely get again. To eat we shared: 1. The pretzel sticks. These were warm and chewy. Amazing. Best pretzel bread I've had in a long time. The cheese sauce and honey mustard sauce were great dippers to enjoy with the bread. We ordered it 3 times. 2. The corn crab fritters. Not greasy. Fried well and so meaty. The sauce to garnish was great. I think it was like an aioli of some sort that was light. The side garnish of salad and pickled onions was almost licked off the plate. 3. Deviled eggs. A little fancy version of an old favorite. I get these any time a restaurant offers them. We also ordered a second round. 4. The entrees. I had the wagyu burger which was huge, juicy and delicious. I did not make any changes to the toppings. I savored every bite. My friend got the filet which was tender and juicy (I stole a bite!). My other 2 friends got the salmon and they both devoured it...another "lick the plate clean" situation. Our server was Nick and he was great. Very attentive but not annoying.
