Thomas Street Tavern has been my go-to bar since the 90s, and I still absolutely love it! The vibe is unbeatable, everyone is friendly, anything goes, and there's zero judgment. It's always felt like a place where you can just be yourself, and that's why I keep coming back decade after decade. That said, one suggestion: it may be time to upgrade the TVs. A several screens are showing wear, one had half the picture visible and the other half dark/scrambled, and the TV along the back patio bar (near the fabulous Kathy) has a noticeable line down the middle. Have been wanting to try this place out because I heard they have good turkey burgers. To turn around and not even order the turkey burger ‍. Decided to order the chicken Philly cheesesteak, which they messed up my order and gave me beef instead of chicken. Had to send that back and wait another 20-25min for the chicken. Our waitress was generous to give us more fries for the long wait. Also as happy to have ate the salad prior or I would of been hangry haha. Our waitress was very friend. Wish I could remember her name because she was very sweet. If you go, ask for the waitress that's 4'11. Bet she's that only one that's that height working there haha. One of the most iconic neighborhood bars in charlotte. Thomas Street Tavern is truly a melting pot for all different kinds of people. From old Charlotte natives watching basketball, to Plaza Midwood hipsters playing ping pong this place really does feel like the kind of bar where everyone is welcome. They have pool tables, ping pong tables, and even the ring on a string game along with a total of 3 bars, 2 outside and 1 inside. I must confess I have not tried the food here yet. Typically when I come with friends it is for one reason, to enjoy some reasonably priced drinks and have a good time. I especially like to come on a nice day and sit outside at the patio bar. Not much else to say but if you want a cool bar that is just a little bit divey then stop on by. read more

TST was always a hidden gem for us before the pandemic, fairly priced food, drinks & beer! We came for a quick lunch, I got the Jessica's tweety bird with fries per recommendation of Mikey and it did not disappoint. The garlic toasted bread was what set this sandwich off. The hot wings were nice and spicy, the perfect hot! My hubs devoured the hot dog so I didn't even get to get a bite, but I made up for it with the okra as that is always fried just right! I walked in to the Tavern this evening wearing a Trump shirt and was openly ridiculed by multiple patrons - who openly called me "disgusting" and referred to me as a "cunt" due to my shirt. A woman eventually started screaming at me and my husband and both of us were quickly kicked out by the manager due to us defending ourselves against a liberal mob who would refused to leave us alone. I was never as humiliated or had as many insults screamed at me in my entire life. I thought this was America. Although I did not engage, management clearly supported this mob mentality. T Street never fails me. Excellent service from Christine. Food arrived very quickly. The chimichanga was plentiful. I brought the other half home for dinner. (It tasted just as good reheated.). It comes with choice of a side. I had the side salad. Christine brought the salad out right away and before I could finish it both the chimichanga and my friend's wings arrived to the table. Wings were on the money and served with plenty of celery and choice of ranch or blue cheese. It's a different atmosphere for a Saturday lunch compared to night seevor a Panthers game day. Just moved to the neighborhood, looking forward to patronizing and supporting local businesses, however Thomas Street Tavern WILL NEVER GET A PENNY OF MY MONEY. The server treated my husband and I like second class citizen with his neo-Nazi attitude. From the moment we walked in and sat down he was down right nasty and rude. Making comments under his breath and throwing menus at us. He wiped our table then threw the cotton towel in the trash dramatically while muttering derogatory comments again under his breath...I tried to look past that seeing that we visited this bar before and sat at the bar and the service their was friendly and our bartender was beyond nice. I knew it was time to go when I ordered a Tito's with club soda and my husband ordered a water and when he returned he shoved a plastic cup cup that one gives a child at a restaurant with a lid on it and my husband was served his drink in a proper glass. When I took a sip it was just plain club soda. When I asked the server he didn't even look at me but rolled his eyes and said "well there is no check so you can just leave" and walked away. My husband was furious and stood to say something to defend me but I said "He's not worth it let's just go" and as we walked out he was laughing and said "Good Riddance". I truly believe he was racist, the over all vibe and treatment we received more than proved that. I feel if you are an Anglo person you will love this place. However if you are a brown, black or a biracial couple I recommend you steer clear of this place unless you feel like you want to travel back in time when minorities couldn't sit at the lunch counter and have hateful diatribes uttered at you just because they can with no fear of consequence. If the owners care at all about their business they would be keen to look into how the staff is treating people of color...or not and continue to propagate hatred and ignorance. read more

Talk about a step back into time, this is the FIRST bar I ever visited when I was coming to CLT over 25 years ago, and guess what, it has not changed one bit. It is the same nostalgic shit hole dive bar as it was back then, and not in a bad way. It has got a chill, old skool, vibe that is hard to find these days in the age of ultra chic bistro's and breweries. You know, where the kool kids hang out. What you will find here, is hard working middle class good people. I went with an assorted order of Cajun Dry Rub and Teriyaki wings. Decent wings, above average. I did not have a problem with them. My wife got the sirloin dish, I am not sure what it was on the menu, but it was sirloin with two sides ---- asparagus and fried okra. I am thankful to her, she shared and it was really great. The sirloin had a - sort of, what I would call fajita seasoning, it was really great. Cut into strips and cooked well. The asparagus was actually awesome and so was the fried okra. She asked for a side of creamy horsey sauce and it was perfect. Overall, we always have fun, it is just a great time, combined with great bar food makes for an awesome night. read more

Came in with a coworker for drinks on a Sunday night. We got a tip from the hotel bar that plaza midwood would still be busyish and to definitely stop into Thomas Street so we made it the first destination. We were honestly more interested in catching up and chatting while sucking down cocktails at the bar, but we did check the place out and ventured out on to the notorious patio. I wouldn't necessarily call this place a dive bar, but for sure had the makings of one. Plus it had a neighborhood vibe and felt welcoming too. Visited this place on Saturday and it was a pleasant surprise. Inside there it is your typical bar with a pool table, bar and plenty of tv's to watch the game. It is surround by several dive bars and restaurants which can make parking a tricky. The outside patio was awesome. There are two bars along with plenty of tables and chairs for seating. They also had cornhole and two ping pong tables which can become quite interesting/competitive after a few drinks. The service was a little slow for Saturday. There was only one waiter outside to serve about 60 plus people. Its hard to drink on an empty stomach. One of the bartenders was nice enough to take my order after noticing my frustration. I order the bratwurts and fries. It was delicious. I can't wait until the weather gets warmer to return. This is the perfect spot to hangout after work or for a chill weekend spot. read more
