Not often to i give 5 Stars, but a 4.7 is what this deserves, nice spot you might drive right past it. Just got a couple of breakfast sandwiches, coffee and muffins. The Barista was great, even when she was swamped, she kept a smile. Be patient this is not Starbucks...thankfully, as the coffee actually tastes great! read more

I love breakfast rollups, but they are often premade and wrapped in foiled and soggy. Frank makes them as they are ordered and they are delicious. As a non-meat eater I love all the choices! Being vegan or vegetarian is not an afterthought. And service is personal and friendly. Looking forward to to trying the lunch options! It is also great that there is parking. read more

A great spot right next to a beach! Common Roots is a smoothie and coffee bar with a nice looking lunch menu featuring avocado toast, paninis and more! I popped in for a smoothie and got the banana/peanut butter smoothie with an added espresso shot to it. The smoothie was tasty, even with the added shot didn't lose its balance or flavor. I'd highly recommend it! My only feedback is I wish some of their smoothies did have espresso shots added on already as one of the ingredients for those of us that are a bit more caffeine-minded. read more

This cafe has a great location right on the beach. Tip: take your food across the street and enjoy the ocean. My husband loved his bowl. I liked the toppings on mine and the presentation was great (dragonfruit smoothie bowl), however, there was too much orange juice in it. It really overpowered the other flavors. If I lived here, I'd be here everyday. We ordered food to go to eat on the beach. Everything we ordered was so good. We placed the order ahead of time, and it traveled well to the beach. We just had our first food from Common Roots which is surprising since we live right up the street. It won't be our last. On the recommendation of our sons we picked up their "Common Roots Breakfast Burritos". They were outstanding. They are large so my wife and I split one. Inside is eggs, avocado, what seems like Canadien bacon, home fries and a spicy oil. Probably a few other things as well. The flavors were outstanding and all for just $8. I highly recommend this burrito and can't wait to try their other offerings. read more

A great local spot. The food is delicious. You can tell they use all fresh ingredients and they find a way to make it healthy but still delightful. The coffee is good. Wont blow your hair back but the prices are right. Very nice staff. Appreciate all the local products for sale in the small market. We stayed in Rye over Labor Day weekend and the following week, I think I stopped by Common Roots 6/7 day to grab a breakfast sandwich and an iced coffee. Highly recommend the basic beach! We also had catering from Common Roots, a fall salad, Mac and cheese and bbq pulled pork. SO DELICIOUS! I've been trying to recreate the fall salad since I've returned home. read more

The TLT with avocado is so freaking delicious. They also have a huge case with tons of fresh baked vegan goods. Next time I come in I'm going to try a muffin and a vegan chicken caesar wrap. Online ordering is really easy! One suggestion I would make is to clarify the menu a little - the sandwiches say "Mayo" and this place serves both vegan and non vegan food - but the Mayo is all vegan according to an employee. Also, you can order other non-vegan sandwiches as vegan, but it is not clear on the menu what they sub in when you order it vegan. I asked, and if you order the chicken caesar as vegan they use gardein tenders :) would be great if you could clarify this on the menu or online ordering system. I will 100% be back next time I'm in the area! Glad I found my new fav year round beach spot. read more

Wish they used the concentrate chai so it was less watery but the bagel was great. So much cleaner and nicer than KBs. We first discovered the reimagined Rye Market last February, shortly before the reality of Covid was setting in. In fact, it was the last place we had coffee and actually talked to people up close in March. They have been great during the quarantine, requiring masks inside (and requested at the outside window, which allows you to pick up your food or groceries from the masked, friendly staff member at the window.) They also will bring you your order curbside. We eat a lot of organic, vegetarian and vegan foods and they have a good selection. They can also modify their dishes to make them vegan in many cases. We love the Reubenater, and we sub the turkey for tempeh. Delicious and grilled so it's crispy and tasty. I also love the veggie chili, and you can sometimes get it frozen to have handy to eat on a rainy day. Their fries are yummy, with an array of vegan sauces you can get. They often have prepared meals, both meat and meatless, that are unique and a nice change from our usual routine of meals. The coffee is also excellent. You can pick up some basic groceries as well. One time we were desperate for almond flour, and we were delighted to be able to get some here. It's a friendly, convenient place to go, in season or after the surfers have gone home. Great service! The grilled items are unique creations and generous portions. The Reubenator on gluten free bread is piled high. Along with their house made health slaw (coleslaw) absolutely the best I've ever had. The in-house baked goods, from zucchini breads to cookies, are fresh and yummy. Not gagging sweet sugar laden, we are talking made with honey or coconut sugar. Absolutely worth the carbs! They are stocked with top quality, organic grocery AND personal items. From cheeses, wines, toiletries and trash bags. They got it! The prepared dishes in the fridge and freezer are special chef creations that are 5 star restaurant worthy. We tried a Cajun Chicken dish and a Tortilla Mexican salad. Perfectly seasoned and tender meat. It was great to get for dinner since the grill shuts down at 2pm. We got Annabelles ice cream pints to go for dessert. Way better than Ben and Jerry's (which is available too). They have MANY vegan and gluten-free items available too. I love this place and will drive 1 hour to eat here again!. The ingredients are fresh and healthy. The food is flavorful but not over powering. Everything was very well balanced and just the right portion. I had the breakfast sandwich and burritos, all very good. We were hoping this would be a new chapter for the former Rye General Store, one where there was food in stock, courteous staff, dependable hours, but no. The opening weekend showed half empty shelves, they weren't ready to cook, the staff member behind the counter was rude. We live in the area and have witnessed the business being closed at 2pm on the weekend, not open at 7am on a Saturday when we would have loved a coffee to take to the beach. It's the same old thing as it's former incarnation, which is incredibly disappointing. read more

Great vegan food! Super casual. It's a store and cafe. Across the street from a beautiful beach! Yoga next door. Really good vibe. I got the vegan gyro twice and loved it! The first time they put the pickles in the gyro and I couldn't stop talking about it for weeks. The second time they put the pickles on the side and I didn't notice until I was almost done but I was thinking it was missing something or didn't have enough of the sauce... but I think it was just the pickles! This place has every opportunity to compete with the egregiously overpriced Mecca of conceit and bologna-wrapped vibes, cultivated by New Hampshire burnouts with surfboards on six-inch waves, that is Summer Sessions. SS charges in excess of already offensive city prices. $6.50 for an iced latte?! They're also obnoxiously crowded with awkward lines and over-staffed counter girls that average teenage years with beach bum skin and bleach-blonde hair. The place smells like a #MeToo tempest waiting to implode. Regardless of being ignored by five females doing the collective task of one, I feel unwelcome whenever I enter those hollow halls. How they combine elitism with a faux mantel of SoCal Aloha is beyond me. In fact, it's unnerving. That's SS. I could let this sulfurous yarn unravel but I'll refrain. This is about Common Roots, a place situated in both the physical sense and current zeitgeist, to pulverize its competition down the street. I won't bother mentioning the lack of interior mystique / decor / cool or the utterly inept attempt at marketing; all I'll say is that their coffee game is the weakest I've ever tasted. That was ONE thing that SS USED to do very well. If CR could just learn to brew a superior latte with a small spectrum of flavors and additives (who can't do a skim mocha?) then I have every reason to believe that this iteration of Rye General will see a successful future. For me, that future is a little murky, a tad too hazy at the moment to step up as the Common Roots champion and spread the caffeinated gospel they so righteously deserve. Go with mocha, CR.
