We've been members on and off for years. Several steel tip dart boards adorn the walls. Complete with throwing oches. Everything up to specs, too. A cozy little den on one side with shelves full of books. They provide comfortable leather chairs and beautiful wood dining tables for your comfort. There's even an old style English phone booth...with a working phone! Friday night is special with a fish fry including chips (ya know, fries) and only an authentic British fish fry would include mushy peas. I like the malt liquor for my fries and sneak a little lemon and tartar sauce on my cod. Head up to the full bar for something cold and wet to wash it all down. They have plenty of room with several tables to accommodate. But you need to hurry, rumor has it they've sold the building to Kenny's liquor shoppe, next door. read more

Heard recommendations about the fish and chips open to public on Fridays at 5-7pm. They were not wrong. The buildling can be easily missed in the evening for the area is not lighted well. Parking and entrance door is in back. So, you order from the bar your food and drinks. They hand you a food ticket. Then, you walk over to the sweet older ladies (in aprons that are running the food from the kitchen window) and hand them your food ticket. They may or may not ask your name so they may call your name or what is in your order when it is ready to pick up. It took about 10 min for our orders to be called. They do not use cod (heaven forbid!), rather large pieces of hake and it is hand-battered. The fish was very tender, delicious, and flavorful. Batter was light and crisp. The dish comes with slaw and bread. We got the mushy peas for the whole cultural experience. We also got the steak pie. It was like a beef potpie without the veggies, packed with steak and gravy in a very tender crust. All were very filling and delish. Besides the fish and chips, a major highlight was how friendly the members were, welcoming us so warmly. The sweet older ladies that served us are the the cutest, charming ladies with their accents. Whenever I ESPECIALLY hear a British accent, I feel like I am in a movie or TV show. It is just slightly surreal. I want them to keep talking to hear how British they are. This is a great club on the border of Madison Heights in Warren. It is on Dequindre between 12 and 13 Mile Roads. It has a friendly and welcoming membership. Every Friday there is a fish fry with chips and mushy peas. This is all year round, not just in lent. Most members are from the British Isles or has relatives from there; but that isn't a requirement to join. If like a good time, come on down. They have a nice pub with English beverages. This is a club that has been in existence since 1962, so it has a history. read more

My second visit and just as good as the first. Carried out 2 hake dinners. Huge portions again! Delicious sweet coleslaw, mushy peas (and I normally hate peas!), fries and seeded bread slices. Loved dipping my fries in the malt vinegar! Be sure to try this club dine in or carry out on fish Fridays. Nothing fancy, just good fish Friday food cooked to order! Super cool British expatriate social club in Warren that has somehow existed off the radar for a few decades. Nearly everyone I talked to about it said they'd never heard of the place. Believe me, you need to check this joint out. As a private club, you need to be a member or the guest of a member to visit, except for Friday evenings. Each Friday, the club hosts a fish fry and the general public is able to come and partake in the best fish n chips this side of the Atlantic. Great prices, especially on drinks. Membership is actually very affordable and helps support this unique institution. The bar is a mock-up of what you'd see in most traditional UK pubs, which is cool, but my favorite part is the library with its games, British tomes and periodicals, leather chairs, and cozy mid-century Malm fireplace. Word is the members are very serious dart players and the club has about a dozen boards. Live music and dancing on occasion, good atmosphere, and warm, delightful company. Go check it out! read more

You could blink and miss this place, so keep your eyes peeled. It's located right next to Kenny's Party Store, between 12 and 13 Mile, on the east side of Dequindre. Walking in on a Friday evening during Lent, you'll find a crowded, lively atmosphere...it feels almost like you're entering someone's family reunion...and they welcome you with smiles as if they already know you. The food choice is minimum, it's either fish and chips (fried and battered cod), baked cod, baked salmon, or sheppard's pie. My husband and I both went with the standard fish and chips, paid right up front and immediately stood in the buffet line, which was just a few minute wait. The server cheerily greets you and welcomes you to greater portions. (HUGE portions - basically all-you-can-fill on your plate) The tables are all set up as if you were at a picnic, so we joined a couple and had a delightful conversation. The food was served hot and delicious. No food sitting around and getting cold and soggy at this place...they churn this food out. The fish was the perfect golden crispiness on the outside, tender cod in the center. This was served with a generous portion of fries, coleslaw and creamed peas, a British specialty, which to the common onlooker would look a little off-putting at first glance, however were surprisingly delicious. My husband, the non-veggie guy, went back and asked for a second helping of the peas! The interior in this place is very British in detail. There's a cozy bar in the back corner, accompanied by a little sitting area with a fireplace and library. They have British beers on tap. We had the Tetley on tap, a creamy ale, and accompanied the dinner just perfectly. This is a club, but during Lent anyone can come in, pay $8 for a great meal and enjoy chatting it up with a friendly crowd. There are even darts for those that want to partake. We noticed that a few were smoking in the back corner bar, but I have quite the smoke radar and I didn't notice it at all, certainly not in the dining area. Overall, it's a great place for a yummy, inexpensive meal and the atmosphere and people have you feeling like you had just spend a few hours at Cheers. I was born the year this club was founded, grew up down the street, but had no idea what was inside. Very minimal sign. Membership based, but they've no problem pouring you a $5 pint or two. Lots of older regulars, big darts league. Friendly (and cute) barmaid to boot. read more
