Another "don't judge a book by its cover" situation. Rolling up to the Cadieux Cafe I had my doubts. All I knew going in was that they are known for Belgian beers, they have feather bowling, and Motor City Josh was going to be providing musical entertainment. The place has a lot of character. Do what you will with that. People watching was A+. I personally do not feel a strong desire to ever eat food there...but the drinks were cold, the staff was great, and the live music was incredible. We also enjoyed being spectators to the feather bowling (which is basically bocce ball in a dirt lane with a single feather as the target). read more

Everyone working is very friendly and welcoming, and that definitely encourages us to return and become regulars, even. Great divey atmosphere with even better food. The menu is Belgium-American: sandwiches, burgers, and moules and frites (mussels and fries). A friend and I split the fish and chips, and the mussels. The fries were stand out, crispy outside and good potato flavor. The steak tips dinner was reported by a friend to be "delightful". The friend who got the burger said it was just average. The French dip was better than average, and the jus was on the side. We also shared the pretzel sticks as a group. The bread was great, slight crisp on the outside, soft inside. I think the only disappointment was the cheese, the flavor was good, but it was too thin. They have a nice beer list, including this great Swedish cider that I haven't seen many places. An hour and a half. That's how long I have been sitting waiting for my food. That is 90 minutes from the time of my reservation. If your kitchen can not handle AYCE mussels take them off the menu or reduce the number of reservation you take on Monday nights. I got my food at the 2 hour mark. Dropped the reorder immediately. 45 later I got the reup. AUCE implies the ability to order more food TO eat. This has happend two times now. First time I wrote it off as an understaffed situation, which happens. This is number 2. I can't do it anymore. Make a change. Do better. The waitresses were working so very hard to keep things on the rails. It isn't their fault. Adjust your seating on Monday nights. Delicious Belgian food and beers. Very cool atmosphere. Excellent service! And of course, Feather Bowling!! This is the only place in the United States where you can enjoy this Belgian game. You roll balls down a lane and try to get them as close to the feather as possible. It's similar to bocce ball, but better. The food here is delicious. The mussels are phenomenal! Organized a work event to Feather Bowl and then have dinner after. Spoke with the manager a few times to help organize for our large group and he was very helpful and once there all the staff was great. We had SO. MUCH. FUN!!! We laughed and shouted and cheered and it was just a blast. Non of is had done it before so we were all a bit apprehensive actually- but boy were we proven wrong. What a great time and great team building too. There's an outdoor section as well that looked cool (but it was a rainy day for us). For dinner we ordered almost everything on the menu and - again just enjoying ourselves so much and the food - non of us took photos. We were entertained at the end by Karaoke night. Non of us are into it, generally, but we were all in such a safe space, good mood and everyone there was so passionate that we also joined in! It's been a few months and my colleagues are still talking about it so it might be our yearly team building tradition. I would have given no stars. I was at this establishment for a friends birthday gathering in a Friday night in September 2025. I have a handicap and were special leg braces. the bartender made rude comments about how my leg gear was distracting to him. He laughed about them. when I asked him what the problem was he repeated how my accessibility gear was distracting to him and that I should stop wearing them because they wouldn't work. I was with a friend and I decided to ignore his rude comments and politely asked for a soda. I don't drink alcohol for health reasons related to my needing accessibility gear. The bartender informed me that I needed to order a real drink. I that point I ended the exchange. it made for a pretty bad experience. perhaps this establishment could do a better job training its employees. read more

I just got back from a great evening (Sunday) at this cool bar. RJ Spangler's 10 piece band played from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. They were fantastic We ordered burgers, cooked to medium. Even though the place was packed our order came out just right. The cheeseburgers were not overcooked, they were juicy and delicious! They were served with lots of fries (we ate every one), super fresh green lettuce, nice tomatoes, pickle slices and the cheese was good. We also ordered chicken fingers, they were served steaming hot and were made from nice size pieces of chicken breast. I had a Bell's Two Hearted draught beer. Came by here for dinner one evening when my friends and I were in Detroit this past summer. Apparently, the actor/comedian Keegan Michael Key had spoken highly of this place, and that was enough of a reason for one of my friends to want to come by here. Once we came in here, we were greeted and served by 2 very friendly servers. Their menu consists of primarily Belgian dishes and specialties. We opted for an order of their pretzel sticks with a cheese dip to start with, and I got their grilled cheese sandwich with fries and an additional side of green beans added on. I realize neither of those dishes are particularly unique to Belgian, but traditional Belgian food isn't very vegetarian friendly also, so I was limited to what I could have. The true draw of this place is their unique feather bowling lanes. Both lanes were taken when we were done with our meal and had wandered over to peruse. We were a little timid about playing against anybody else, but a very nice family played let us play against them and told us the rules of the game. It was very fun, albeit very messy as the lanes are sort of carved into the dirt. We didn't get to see any live music here, but that along with their large beer menu and feather bowling makes this a pretty unique place to come visit. I loved coming for the mussels steamed in wine. Was there last week and ordered them. Apparently, they are no longer served with the mustard dip. Deal breaker for me. An eastside family-owned staple since the 1930's, when it served a Belgian enclave, then located near Grosse Pointe, Michigan. It continues this tradition, serving an extensive selection of Belgian beer, along with a great number of other beers and hard liquor. One of their specialties are mussels, that are offered several ways ($21.95). I have had all three versions and have never been disappointed. They also offer Belgian-style rabbit, sausage, and beer stew entrees, as well as a selection of burgers and other bar food. Most recently, a group of us attended a Booze Cruise and hung out with "JR" the owner of Cadieux Cafe where the after party was being held. We had an absolute blast! The Cadieux Cafe now has an outdoor patio area for live music performances. We were starving and ordered Thai Curry Mussels, Spicy Mussels, Steak Tips, and Chicken tenders. Everything was fantastic, especially the chicken tenders. I'm still thinking about those tenders! I think they were the best I've ever tasted. There's ever only two reasons I have ever come here for and it's for feather bowling, which is the only place I know of that has such a thing and mussels. I have been here with family, friends and for a department Christmas event here before. The food is okay, not their specialty, it's all decent. People come here for the atmosphere and the feather bowling, which is actually much harder the it looks. The wooden thick disc balls don't quite roll the way you want them too, ever. The wooden discs are shaped like a cheese wheel and is known as Trabollen in Belgium. It's similar or curling. The lanes are curved with dirt or sand. It's a good social activity. read more

I was wondering why the Cadieux only had 3.5 stars when it's one of the best spots around, but I read a bit and now I see, ahh...the food. You don't come here for the food. You come to hang out, grab a drink, maybe feather bowl, and supplement with some fries or a burger. It has a small, special feel, and most of the people here have been coming for years. But it isn't quite divey because it's not dirty, just casual. A place to shoot the shit. The patio is absolutely AMAZING. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating, spaced out, beautiful string lights, live music sets the tone but isn't too loud/you can still hear your friends. I love that the crowd ranges from young to older, plain to eccentric...unpretentious. They've been understaffed lately, like a lot of places, so food may take a little longer and new employees might not have all of your answers ("I think a Jack & coke is, like, $6?" "I can't find the PBR, is Hamm's okay?"). Somehow, the employees all seemed to be in good enough moods even with the hiccups. read more

Only place in the US that has it... and it was super fun! Prices were great on both bowling and drinks. It was bar service, but pretty easy to get a drink and the bar 'helper' was amazing! I have been to Cadieux Cafe before, but never to eat. It's a great Belgian-style restaurant on the Detroit/Grosse Pointe border and reminds me a lot of Europe. The mussels were great - flavorful and fresh - not to mention the portion was HUGE. Large enough to share. Went here on a Friday night with friends. Live band was playing and although it was a bit loud- lots of fun. Most of the table has mussels which came from in a healthy serving. Blackened chicken was also a choice and quite spicy! Great beer choice, dubbels, triples, and quads. If you want to feather bowl- better reserve a lane as there are only two. It's $50 for an hour. Lanes are large and good for multiplayers. It's not an easy sport and needs strategy. read more

Now that Covid is over, the Cadieux is thankfully back, and better than ever. It had been quite sometime since I've been here, and I was a bit afraid of how Covid had affected the place. To say I was pleasantly surprised as an understatement. We came for an early dinner on father's Day this year (we couldn't come by earlier, they open at 2 pm) because I had a real hankering for mussels and the best Belgian beer selection this side of Antwerp. Pulling into the newly graded and stoned parking lot, I was surprised to see a new outdoor dining area, complete with stage. They have evidently purchased a couple of the houses behind, evidently to increase parking for customers by creating a separate employee parking area, as well as a separate bar that is inside the old garage of the one house. Upon entering the classic 40s façade, I was glad to see that the main part of the bar/restaurant remains cool and eclectic. As always I was not disappointed with the food, as all but my daughter ended up getting mussels. A nice new addition is the fact you can get half orders of the regular mussels, something both my wife and my 74 year old mother appreciated. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the famous feather bowling area has been kept pretty much the same. However it definitely seems lighter, mainly by the addition of a glass garage door in the west wall leading to the aforementioned outdoor seating area, and there's now a railing around the alleys to be able to at least set your beer on, and better seating down the middle. All in all, I will return much more often, and hope to try the outdoor area! . read more

Went there on a Saturday night for dinner before our feather bowling lane rental for a large group. We waited a long time for a table, call ahead to get a reservation, I never knew they took them. Apparently there was a band playing that night, so there was an $8 cover charge each. (They were loud even when warming up, which took a long time. Even with the slow service, we only heard a few songs. Not a good setting if you want to chat with your party). Service was very slow, just getting soup to start with was a 20 min wait. I understand the staff shortage that most places are experiencing, but that long for soup, seemed like a lot. The chowder was decent, needed some seasoning. I ordered the Belgian Stew which was good, could've have been hotter. My boyfriend got the fish and chips which he thoroughly enjoyed. We also ordered pommes frites with all 3 sauces, because I can't go there and not get them. Next time we go, we have to try the mussels, which they are known for, they smelled amazing! If you go there, try to reserve a lane for an hour of feather bowling, it's a really fun experience. The group we were with, rented both lanes for a few hours. It seems like the new owners have put some money into the place, seems brighter inside. They added t.v. screens to view the games better. So disappointed. Karaoke DJ had the system way too loud. Some were having fun but we came for mussels and Belgian beer and couldn't hear each other. We decided to sit outside. Our table - and others had dead fish flies all over it. After a minute or so, we realized there was no service available outside (or inside). I asked the bartender what the deal was and he said we could order from him and someone would bring our food- drinks were served only at the bar to take back to your table. I love the Cadieux. It's been added to but not changed essentially. I hate when something good is altered but not made better. This place is still authentic more so than most places these days. I like the mussels done many ways. All ways are good. I also love a rousing game of feather bowling. I love it because I'm a decent player. I like the new owner John. He's cool. I like live music. I like bands that jam. There is so much talent in these parts. Detroit has some real well trained musicians playing some real dive bars. Per the Cadieux Cafe website it states: "Reservations for dinner are accepted for groups of six or more. " We were a party of four who arrived at 6:15 p.m. on a Saturday night. Having been there before, we walked in and there was an open table which could accommodate us. We sat down and the waitress came by and said she had meant to put a reservation sign on the table we were sitting at but didn't get to it. The place was quite empty at 6:15 p.m. We were told that the place was booked at 7 p.m. with numerous reservations. We said I'm sure we'll be out by 7 p.m. as we just want to eat. We were told NO we could sit there and there was no place for us that night. She said if we wanted a reservation we should have went to Resy. Well, due to their website information I thought a party of 4 couldn't get a reservation. Very irritating and irresponsible. Someone needs to clarify the website reservation policy or clarify what is accepted for walk ins that arrive 45 minutes before the busy time. Really doesn't a hamburger take less than 15 minutes to cook. Doubt I'll return. The bummer is I had out-of-town guests that night that had never been there. First time diner at Cadieux Cafe, been driving past it for 4 years and finally decided to give it a try. There is ample parking and a well lit parking area behind the bar/cafe. The inside has 4 tops and then group seating tables in the middle that hold 16 roughly. They have 70 beers on the menu. This is a Belgian restaurant bar. I had the beef stew which was delicious, however the portion size was about half what I needed to fill me up. My cohort had the rabbit, which he also said was delicious. We each had a beer, which was somewhat pricey $9.25 for a bottle, however it was delicious. The female waitress was very friendly and gave a lot of tips on what to try, what was their best plates and what their popular dishes were. What I didn't like was the fact there was a live band playing, so there was no talking at dinner, it was way too loud. The Cadieux cafe has feather bowling in the back also, look it up if you don't know what it is. Somewhat cool I think, and definitely different. Overall I give them a 4 star rating because the food was delicious. I just wish the portion size was bigger. I left and had a beef sandwich because I was still hungry. read more
