So we had to eat before arriving on Friday (we had a late lunch at David's Catfish House and it was very good). On Saturday we drive out of town and found South Forty on our way back to Mobile. It was about 10:45 am and a little early for a burger, but after reading the reviews decided to go for it. Glad l did as it was in many ways as good or better than our favorite burger places in Mobile. So if you find yourself on the way to Monroeville stop in at South Forty, you will not be disappointed.

I wasafter I had sat down and ordered because she didn't want my service dog in the restaurant…read more She said they have the right to refuse service to anyone. I showed her my ADA card, and she went and called the owner who told her that he/she was going to post on their website that no animals are allowed including service animals. I told her that was illegal and they are breaking the law, and she became quite nasty and said "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." Again I attempted to educate her on the legalities regarding service animals and she said to me "Are you going to stop talking and listen to me?" When I asked to let us eat in peace and please get away from our table, she became irate and told us to leave that she was going to call the owner. I'm very well aware of my rights regarding my service animal and that she will hear from my attorney. As I was leaving and she had the owner on the phone, she then tried to tell us we didn't have to leave. After she had been rude, non compliant with federal laws, and called attention to my elder sister and I, staying was not conducive to her ugly attitude. She NOR the owner obviously seem to feel federal laws protecting people with disabilities apply to them. Perhaps a bit of insight will keep them from discriminating against someone else. I WILL indeed be contacting my attorney as well as the Justice Department, and the State of Alabama's ACLU. Under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), private businesses that serve the public must allow service dogs to accompany their handlers into all areas where customers are normally allowed. What Businesses Must Do Allow Access Everywhere: Service animals must be permitted in public areas, including restaurants, grocery stores, and hotels, overriding standard "no pets" or health department food-service rules. Treat Equally: Businesses cannot isolate customers with service dogs, charge extra fees, or demand pet deposits. Accept Only Dogs (and Miniature Horses): Under the federal ADA, only dogs (and in specific guidelines, miniature horses) trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability qualify as service animals. Emotional support animals are not protected. What Businesses Can Ask When it is not obvious what service the animal provides, staff may only ask two questions: Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff cannot ask about the person's disability, require medical documentation, require a special ID card or certification, or ask the dog to demonstrate its task. I called back at closing time to obtain the owner's name and phone number, she refused to give me either and told me I had to call back in the morning. She then proceeded to tell me "I'm the rude woman that spoke to you and when I once again attempted to explain that service dogs are protected by Article 3 of the American Disability Act, she started again arguing. At this point, I played the phone down and walked away not wanting to argue with her or to be rude and hang up on her. Its unfortunate that this lady feels she can not follow the laws she doesn't want to, and that the owner seems to feel their business is exempt from federal laws. Robyn Belknap 8/24/2026

This place feels like your traditional mom and pop restaurant where you can get a home cooked meal. When I got there, I was greeted by kind host who took me to my seat. There is plenty of seating to dine in as well as an area to wait with seating for carry out orders. The waitress was waiting on me was also very kind. My food came out quickly, and I also ordered carryout which also came out quickly. I ordered the catfish platter with a baked potato and macaroni and cheese. The fish was crispy and well seasoned. The macaroni and cheese was really good and the baked potato, was your standard baked potato. All of my food came out hot and fresh. The price point here is also something that you cannot beat. I also ordered a half-and-half to wash it all down. The next time I am in Marion, I will definitely be back to this restaurant to try some of their other offerings as well as their desserts.

Ordered ribs with corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. The only thing that wasn't refrigerator cold was the fries. The ribs and corn had warm spots but near the bone and cob were both cold, refrigerator cold. I don't send things back or complain as I believe food should come out right. The restaurant was not busy at all so maybe that had something to do with it? My friend riding with me had the same experience. Food may have been good had it been warm.

Service was awesome and our server was super sweet. We even forgave her for the Auburn sweatshirt she wore. She was going to school there, so it made sense. The food was good. It is nothing fancy, but it was executed well. Sometimes simple foods done right are the best and the hardest to do. The menu has things like fried pickle appetizers, burgers, simple steaks and catfish. I liked it. I don't always need to be fancy, but this is fancy for this community. I am from Arkansas so I know this type of fancy. I imagine this place is jam-packed at prom and around holidays. Look, this is probably the best restaurant in the county, at least one of them. This is rural country. I respect that. I am a redneck at heart, and by my rearing in Arkansas. I grew up in the woods. This is high end country cooking. The house is also beautiful. The staff are friendly and accommodating too. We had a good time. You should too.

They do not have a kids menu or kids cups, etc, so know that ahead of time. The food is very good, I frequently get the ribeye as I did this time and it is always cooked. Good with a nice, char flavor. The menu is a bit limited from what you might expect, but that is due to the location and resources, I'm sure. We got the fried pickle appetizer and they were very fresh and homemade and delicious. The entrées were both delicious as well as the black bottom pie we got for dessert. Our server was very friendly and attentive, as were the hosts of the restaurant. This is a great experience for a fancy dinner in the middle of nowhere. Definitely recommend you give it a try.

Vintage old signs and decor adorn the walls and everything is so neat and clean. We ordered breakfast with Ms. Annie and let me just say the western omelette, hash browns and toast was AMAZING!! Everything you could possibly need to accommodate your breakfast was neatly organized on the table from butter to sugar, creamer and condiments. Afterwards we found out that Annie waited on us AND cooked our food! Exceptional service and food quality! We're coming back for that burger everyone is raving about!! Wish I had a photo of my breakfast for ya'll but just couldn't wait to chow down!! Thanks, Annie, for the best breakfast!!

Hubby & I were out at my dads new property for my birthday checking out where he has purchased more land & a new house. Leaving, we were needing a birthday party quick hangover cure to the rescue! Lol Stopping for gas next door to this cute little drive-in, we notice it was completely PACKED! We were famished, so we decided to check it out. Inside, the place is super cute, what a find! So I started taking pics. This man, I presume "Larry the owner" comes to our table & says to me, "do you want to take pics inside the kitchen too?" LOL I said, "no, but I love your place it's very cute & I love the way you vaulted the ceilings, my hubby & I are in the process of refurbishing a carriage house & want to vault the ceilings just like this. How did you do it?" So he goes on to tell us all about his adorable Little small town cafe/ drive-in & you can see the pride that he has for this beautiful little place in his eyes. Just beaming. We order burgers & fries & it was quite a wait for them, but once we got them OMG! Hubby & I were cramming them in our pie holes so fast, "Larry" kept coming over asking us "how is it guys" & we were like grunting & mmmm-mmm-MMMM, unhua-mmm shaking our heads yes, making all kinds of noises bc we were just stuffing it in the kissers like wild ravaged walk of shame peasants. Sorry not sorry about that! :)... However, we apologize we couldn't talk further "Mr. Larry?" bc we really loved your burger as you could see we ate them like it was our last meal on earth! :)... I didn't get to ask "Larry?" about the burger bc we ate them so fast, but I think they grind their own meat here. Hubby & I grind all our own meat fresh so I can tell when the burger is ground fresh. Our burgers were a good size, seasoned to perfection, hand pattied & the SS fries were our favorite. I also LOVED the coleslaw & the ice tea!!! :)' They were so busy, people were waiting in a line out the door so we hurried & left. But we noticed that there were a LOT of people there having these giant ICE CREAM cones with what appeared on top as Oreo cookie sprinkles?! We LOVE your burger "Larry?" We LOVE your place & you are going to make my father very happy now that I have to visit him more often so hubby & I can come chow down at your place. :)' We are bringing the whole family next visit, my brother & 3 nephews, to try that wicked looking giant ice cream cone. Mmm-mmm-mmmmm unhua...Yup. See you again soon! Highly recommend.
