Our two sweet new kitties we just adopted from Companion Animal Foundation, Mufasa and Jupiter.

We adopted two of our cats from Companion Animal Foundation about 10 years ago and just adopted two more kitties a couple days ago and we couldn't be happier with our experience. They have the sweetest kitties because they treat them with so much love and they get lots of attention and socialization from the staff, volunteers and the community. These people love animals and it shows! Kim knows her stuff and she has such a helpful and sweet nature about her. It's comforting to know I have a "go to" person I can ask questions or get helpful advice about my cats who's so knowledgeable about animals and the community. We're lucky to have these kind and caring people at Companion Animal Foundation and I'm so grateful for each of my special little kitties I adopted from these guys. We love their thrift stores (one in Arcata and one in Bluelake) as well! We've found many cool treasures at both their locations.

Sally chilling on the back of the couch. She's such a cuddle monster!

I've found great dishes, glassware, and a funky teapot in the thrift store, very cheap.

They are protecting animals' health and well-being. The Humane Society!is not a pet store (who sells animals nor matter who you are or what your plans are with that animal). This organization does not exist to appease to your specific situation or give you a break. THEY RESCUE ANIMALS. And... before they allow you to adopt (especially dogs) they will check you out, check out your space and if they deem you "unfit" you probably are! They are picky for a good, reason. They will also NOT take in somebody's pet who is trying to unload a problem, animal that does not fit into their family and probably, nowhere else! I cannot speak lowly enough of the people who have punished this impeccable organization with their petty and meaningless reviews. They should be ashamed of themselves with their lopsided, complaints. I hope these cry-babies are eventually judged and criticized for being the ugly, entitled, self-serving humans they indicate to anybody unfortunate enough to have read their STUPID Pointless, comments that really got my goat! This organization deserves no less than a five star review from everybody they've helped and rescued. Please, pay no attention to those sour-grapes reviews. Sequioa Humane Society might have administrative and or communication challenges like every business (although I've not seen this). Maybe they are not perfect in that respect. However, their mission and vision is beyond, reproach.

Upon arrival, I was informed that…read morevisitors may only view up to three dogs and that all adoption paperwork must be completed before meeting any animals. While my own paperwork was in order, my roommate was informed that she had outstanding licensing fees related to a dog that has since passed away. Because of this issue, we were not permitted to view any dogs available for adoption. I understand the importance of policies and administrative requirements, but I left disappointed that a paperwork matter prevented us from even meeting dogs that need homes. As someone genuinely interested in providing a loving home to a shelter animal, it was frustrating to feel that procedural requirements took priority over facilitating adoptions. I hope the shelter will consider whether its policies strike the right balance between administrative compliance and helping animals find suitable homes.

I called to inquire and was sent the foster and adoption paperwork. As a homeowner, the turnaround time for my paperwork to be approved was a matter of hours. When I called to ask about meeting some of the adoptable dogs, they let me know that I could meet up to three dogs during a one hour appointment. My first visit was great, and I met three wonderful dogs. Shelter staff does temperament testing and each dog we met had adorable traits. I had an idea right away regarding the dog I was drawn to. I made a second visit up to the shelter to spend one hour with the one dog I couldn't stop thinking about. I enjoyed a nice visit with her in a back room of the shelter. Staff was so kind and offered me brushes to use on the pup during our visit. The third time I went to the shelter was to pick her up to foster her, and it only took five days for me to make the adoption official. I am so grateful for the tender care that the animals receive during their interim time before they find their forever homes. It's apparent that staff truly care about the work they do, and I'm grateful for them. I couldn't be happier with my experience there.

Within 5 minutes the clinician came back and said we need to euthanize with zero explanation as to why. It wasn't until they were already drawing the euthanasia into the needles that they explained there were tumors in her stomach and they had preformed an ultrasound to find them. She has had no history of this but I could see she was suffering so I agreed. When I was saying goodbye to my dog I've had since I was 10 years old they kept coming in asking if I was done yet. I was given 10 minutes to say goodbye to my dog of over a decade. They still charged the emergency visit fee on top of the cremation fee. I was out $700 and my best friend. There was no one else in the lobby waiting and they were still rushing me out. No sympathy to my situation, you'd think vets would be more compassionate to pet parents but no. The only reason i'm giving the two stars is because on another occasion, I needed to get my cat dewormed and the woman on the phone encouraged me to try a cheaper over the counter medication at a local pet store first, before paying for an appointment at their clinic.
