I used this rescue service because my husband had passed away. I needed to leave a toxic/abusive situation and there was no way I was going to leave my two dogs behind and I was desperate. The owner, Shannon had come to the rescue for my two dogs, which I was very grateful. It was an extremely heart wrenching thing for me to do as I had raised my dogs since they were puppies. I didn't have the means to keep them or a safe environment for them anymore. My dogs were not strays I found on the street. I think about them everyday and hope they're ok. Hence my problem with this rescue. The only updates I got were when I texted Shannon, which felt forced and made me uncomfortable. Very vague about the adopters who have my dogs now. I was hoping to get more info on the adopters (and exchanging info with each other) and updates now and then with a pic or two. I think this rescue should be more empathetic to people in my situation and take into consideration how hard it was to do what I had to do in the first place. read more

I would never trust this rescue with any animal. The reports coming out about Miranda's Rescue are horrifying. Authorities are investigating allegations of animal cruelty, fraud, and the deaths of numerous dogs. Investigators have reported recovering large numbers of canine remains, and hundreds of animals sent to the rescue are still unaccounted for. This case is still under active investigation, but the information released so far is deeply disturbing. (Los Angeles Times) Until the investigation is complete and there is full accountability and transparency, I cannot recommend supporting this rescue in any way. read more

I just read the story about this rescue and I have to say as a dog owner this place is absolutely disgusting. I hope this place loses its business and justice is served for all the poor dogs killed. not enough room in this post to be able to express my admiration for Shannon, and his team. We got our first Border Collie mix from him when he was still in Ferndale....that dog was amazing. Then when we thought a dog might be a good companion for a senior who all of a sudden was living alone - Miranda's helped us find the perfect dog...however the dog became potential tripping problem, we contacted Shannon and he was 100% there for us when we were forced to return the dog. Additionally what Miranda's/Shannon give back to the community is priceless....don't buy a dog from a breeder...there are many wonderful dogs/cats just waiting for someone to love them..... read more

I adopted my sweet boy Petrie from Miranda's rescue and I'm glad I did. The small dogs get adopted out pretty quick, since the last time I visited none of the same dogs were there which is good! I have some complaints though, because I tried to volunteer walking dogs (which I had done when I adopted Petrie) and the hours said they were open another few hours. I drove a good hour to get there just to walk a hyper big dog, because I know they need all the help they can get. As I drove up I saw some people walking a dog so I knew they were open. I asked the lady at the front if I could walk a big dog and she said she was the only one there and she wouldn't be able to do that. Then she asked if I was looking to adopt one of them and I said no I just wanted to walk one, maybe a small one if it's too much of a hassle to get a big dog out. She told me no, and that it wasn't a good time. I was bothered about this experience because I wanted to walk a dog that maybe doesn't get out as much with people, of course if she was the only person working, how could she walk every dog there? This rescue is amazing! I had a great dog but she has severe separation anxiety that caused her to destroy my house, which was tolerable, but then my office at work, which couldn't be tolerated. She was also so anxious at my work all day long. I could no longer stand to see her this way. The founder, Shannon, is a great guy and he agreed to take my dog and find her a great home. I was super sad bringing my dog there and leaving her. However, within literally a couple hours of bringing my dog to the rescue, Shannon had already found a great home for my dog. Someone who is home all the time so my dog doesn't have to suffer from her anxiety anymore. He also gave me a picture of the adoption and an update. So thankful for Shannon and his rescue! read more

I'm extremely disappointed in the management of this facility. It seems to me that this shelter is overwhelmed, and there is a little to no health examinations being performed on these animals. There are dozens of animals and limited staff so don't be surprised if you later find out your pet has numerous health issues. After adopting my kitten, she was infested with fleas and had worms. During my visit the staff they was sure the kitten has been properly examined, vaccinated and treated but this was obviously not the case. ALL the cats are put together in one enclosure...this is a recipe for disaster and diseases. So please beware when adopting from this shelter. read more

Would never recommend anyone going here ! Left my dog here for 2 months and my dog lost almost 20 pounds because as they quote " scared to feed him" b/c they were " scared " but before we left they said they've dealt with other dogs ! Glad my sweet boy is alive b/c if he would've stayed there for a couple more days I don't think he would've made it ! And they leave the animals in the cold and while iT is raining . I do appreciate them keeping my dog for the time being but I don't like how my dog was treated ! read more

Our family adopted a one-year-old dog at the SPCA in Oakland, eager to make a home for this young boy that had been found running loose during one of the terrible 2018 wildfires in Northern California. The dog had never been socialized and was filled with fear of just about everything, especially people. We thought that with careful training, we could rehabilitate him to live with us as his family. It turned out the task was too large for us. As the dog became more confident, he also became more aggressive and more territorial of the backyard. It was quite frightening. Our personal dog trainer, witnessing our inability to properly train him, referred us to Miranda's Rescue. I talked on the phone with Shannon for a good 45 minutes, wanting to be sure this was a a good sanctuary with behavioral training methods that treated animals with respect and dignity; after our talk, I was convinced that Shannon would be the one who could give the dog the training and love--yes, love!--he needed but never had in his young life. We drove the dog the 4+ hours from our home in Oakland to Fortuna and when we met Shannon, his enthusiasm and compassion for animals was infectious. We were also pleased to see the cleanliness and spaciousness of the dog kennels and the entire sanctuary. Shannon has kept in touch with us, sending updates and videos to let us know how the dog is doing (well!). We know this is the right place for this young dog to get the attention he needs. We are grateful that Miranda's Rescue is here, not only for families to adopt wonderful dogs but for hard-to-place dogs to get a second shot at life. This place is wonderful and saved the life of my sister-in-laws dog. She could not longer keep the young dog because of issues with aggression. It was the wrong family for the dog. Multiple rescues refused to take him because he had bitten. They were out of hope and thought they would have to euthanize him. Miranda saved his life. Yes it cost them $500 because the dog needed to be trained and homed correctly which could take months and it costs money to feed and train a dog. They were happy to pay it knowing that he would live and have a chance at a happy life. They met the Trainer when they dropped him off. Miranda's rescue sent them pictures, videos, and updates. He was not euthanized. read more

I bought my puppy there. I had been to the local animal shelter by the arcata airport and they were so rude to me. Not only were the people great, but the animals seem to be really happy at Miranda's Rescue. For $100 I got my puppy, they also do all her first year shots and are paying to have her spayed. Went to look for a puppy the website was not updated and they only had one puppy, and was not greeted had to go to the trailer that was the office and the ladies that was in there just told us to go ahead and walk around and we went where we was told to walk around and look and then we left a minute later because there was a pitbull biting at their cage door trying to open it which was scaring my 3 year which was not okay. It would have been nice if someone would have came with us so it would have felt more safer for my 3 year son. read more
