I'm extremely disappointed with the care my dog received under Dr. Ben Spitz at Companion Veterinary Hospital of Wayne. After being prescribed a medication here, our dog developed severe health issues shortly afterward, including major weight loss and a complete change in her quality of life. We are now dealing with a chronic condition that requires insulin injections, constant monitoring, and sleepless nights because she wakes up crying from hunger. Watching her suffer has been heartbreaking for our family. While every pet is different, and complications can happen, I wish we had been warned more clearly about possible risks and side effects. The entire experience has left us devastated and feeling unsupported. I strongly recommend that anyone considering this facility ask very detailed questions, seek second opinions, and make sure you fully understand all medication risks before agreeing to treatment. read more

I used to love this place. But after today I completely change my mind. We did exam first a few weeks before to get my cat neutered and payed $464 and they said when I pick up the remaining balance would be $63. Well, when I got there, it was a whole different story. They told me the remaining balance is around $175. That's not what we discussed when we were there the first time. Then they said we only paid $300 and something the first time which is not true I have the bank statement. The girls up front said they didn't say that but they truly did. They Should know how to do there job. We discussed the payments for literally 20 minutes . To top it all they gave me my kitten with the stitches out he has blood all over his high end and no cone. Trying to cover up what they told us. Initially told me it was 520 for a neuter. It's not about the money it's the principal. read more

Awful in competent staff. They leave you on hold forever just for the call to drop. I gave an attitude once honestly to an employee because I was on the phone on hold for over 20 minutes while in kidney dialysis. The main vet in there, I couldn't even tell you his name because someone is always filling in for him. So, you're basically paying for some student to treat your dog and for 2 girls, 1 is necessary to sit behind the desk and manage the phone calls that they clearly cannot manage doing. read more

My senior dog was struggling to eat and keep water down. He was prescribed 'nausea pills' and passed away four days later. I sought a second opinion before he died, and that's when I found out how seriously ill he really was. If you love your pet, get them help as soon as possible -- but don't come here. read more

I've waited four years to give this review. This Dr. Spitz is awful. My poor dog was getting old fast. I took him in to see the doctor to figure out how to help the old guy. He had mild hip pain, was going blind and deaf, and was scared--I was too! I made an appointment and dr spitz diagnosed my pup as old. That's it! The dr gave me gabapentin for my pup's achy hips, but didn't do any tests to see if he was blind or deaf or anything. He just said, yeah, he's probably blind. I made another appointment soon after because my dog's eye lid was drooping and he seemed in discomfort. Dr. Spitz grabbed my dog's face, yanked his hair back, and said that there was nothing wrong. He even held my dog like that while I came over to see. My dog looked frightened. He dismissed me and left the room. It was horrible. He was so mad I thought he was going to throw me out of the office. I can't really say he was just having a bad day. His demeanor had been similar but with different intensity during the few previous appointments. The bottom line is that i was looking for guidance to help me with my dog's growing age-related problems and guidance into what was the inevitable end of his life--I'd had him over 16 years. Dr. Spitz is not compassionate. I think he was stressed out at the time--telling me that vets commit suicide more than any other profession. He was curt, rude, incompetent with guidance--really just a prescription writer--and only talked about himself. His problems should stay in his head or at his psychiatrist's appointments. Building a business means you don't spill your T all over other people. After that last appointment, I took my pet to Butler Vet. They were amazing!! Compassionate and caring and willing to take my money anytime I needed them to check on my beloved pup. They really cared about me and the end of my constant companion's life. The workers there are super nice and they were extremely caring with my cats. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 was because of the bill I received. They charged $175 extra (almost $400 total) for yearly shots and routine blood work because they said my cat was considered a "senior". But she only just turned 7. I never heard of a 7 year old cat be considered a senior. And that was never mentioned beforehand. Other than that it was a great experience. read more

My daughter rescued a toy poodle, literally from the streets of Montgomery, Alabama. She brought her to us and my wife fell in love with the little guy. I figured him to be about 10 years old, then as he ate, got cleaned up, and started to fill out (he weighed 4 pounds), I readjusted his age to about 6 to 8. One problem. He wasn't neutered. We called around and found that the average cost of neutering a dog is $450. My wife spent weeks looking and we finally gave up and chose Companion Vet hospital because they would allow us to make payments. They told my wife this on the phone and then when we were there in person. Come the day and once the surgery was done and my wife is there to pick up the dog they changed their tune. We had to pay all of it. And the total bill was about $900. Turns out these guys offer free shots because they stick you for every nickel and dime they can once they get your pet. They charged for everything they could and now that the dog is home we have now shelled out $1,000 for the free dog. The people behind the counter were rude and unhelpful. The vet seems more or less competent, but the dog's surgical site doesn't look as clean as I expected. I'm not an expert on dog neutering as most of our shelter dogs came to us already fixed, but I grew up on a ranch in Northern California and helped my father with the sheep many times. Maybe I should have gotten an emasculator and done it myself... We're not going back to these guys. They only seem to care about money. read more

If I could give a negative review, I would. I have been to this vet multiple times for check ups, vaccines, etc. i never had a bad experience, until my most recent visits. I brought my dog in for a check up and annual vaccines, and she was required to come back two weeks later for a booster. I brought her in, no issues. A few days after her booster shot, she developed a UTI. She has a history of these so we knew based off previous diagnosed symptoms. We called the vet, and they told us there was no openings that day but drop off a urine sample, we will get the ball rolling, and we can probably fit her in the next day. We will send out the urine, get the results, and squeeze her in. I drop off a urine sample, and pay for the lab test to be done on Thursday. We don't hear anything from the vet, so we call Saturday asking about the testing explaining no one ever called us to fit her in or even explain the results of the urine test. They tell us the vet needs the dog to come into the office in order to get medication for the UTI, but they also explain they have no openings, and try referring us to another office who didn't even have a vet on staff during the weekends. She just had a check up two weeks prior so her NEEDING to be seen in order to get a simple UTI medication seemed to be a purely money driven decision. This was also Memorial Day weekend so they ended up telling us an office manager will call us the following Tuesday. no one called! Then I call and they tell me she's not in the office until Thursday. I wait around, no one calls. I call Friday morning and they explain to me that once again the office manager is in another office and no one can help me besides her. She will be on that following Tuesday. Now this is two weeks AFTER I dropped off the urine sample???? Absolutely ridiculous. So I ask for my money back since they refuse to help me or my animal. They tell me the office manager can only issue a refund. I have to wait until she calls me Tuesday. Take a wild guess! She never called....... So I drive to the office right after work to speak with her in person and ask for a refund. The front desk informs me she in no longer in the office for the day and no one else can issue me a refund. I informed the office I would dispute the charges and I left. The maltreatment of my dog is absolutely unacceptable. They should've never told us they were trying to get our dog in. They should've never taken a urine sample if they couldn't even follow through with even a phone call about it. Knowing it was a holiday weekend and they had absolutely no availability, they should've told us we needed to see another vet or an emergency hospital for medication. My dog went untreated until I was able to afford to bring her somewhere else because this office refused to even give me my money back. Not a single person even asked me if my dog was okay after multiple phone calls over two weeks and there was zero effort into having her seen in the office over that time period as well. They do not care about your animals and this office is driven by money. I'll never go again read more

Ive been coming to Companion Veterinary in Riverdale for 3 years with my dog. Both Dr Debbie and Dr Michael Morris have treated my dog like there own. I call the office at all hours and ALWAYS get a call back.. As if a pet is a take away item from applebees. also when called previously (when dr mike retired) to find out if exotic vet would be available they seemed confused by such a question. was told id get a call back and never did. read more

We are so grateful to Dr. Morris for seeing us on a rainy Sunday afternoon when our primary vet was closed. He treated our dog for a paw infection that stemmed from a puncture wound. Dr Spitz and staff are responsive, friendly, and professional. Having used other vets that were geographically closer, I can state that CVH is not overpriced. The free vaccines policy is just a bonus. Either Dr. Spitz or the office staff have always called us as soon as test results came back, explained what they meant, and provided useful guidance. We love our dog, but do not have unlimited funds. When she needed surgery Dr. Spitz explained what could be done now, what could be done later, what expected outcomes would be, and what the various costs would be. There was never any pressure to follow one path, only respectful advice. Surgery went well but required a few follow up visits. Each time we went back, Dr. Spitz and staff spent the time with us to make sure we understood our dog's status and needs. She made a complete recovery, Dr. Spitz prescribed medication, and our dog is doing much better. Overall, very satisfied with CVH and Dr. Spitz. Happy to recommend them (their worth driving to!). read more

Had 2 visits and I will not be going back.. vaccines are advertised as free but they over charge for everything else. My dog had 2 vaccines here and immediately got sick. I monitored his symptoms for 2 days and called to have him checked as these signs were due to the vaccine. When calling, they insisted that it was not the vaccine and I would be charged a regular vet visit to get him checked (which is $60). My dog had been home, eating the same food, and had not done anything out of the ordinary to have been feeling symptoms.. I asked if the vet could at least call me to talk through my dogs side affects but they couldn't even do that. This place has no compassion and truly did not care about my dogs health. Highly recommend to stay away from this place!!!! read more

We followed our vet, Dr. Spitz, from a prior location here. He is so great, and takes wonderful care of our two pups. Such a good job that we drive a half hour each way so we can see him at Companion Veterinary Hospital. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and in spite of the drive, we won't be switching providers any time soon. This place is slightly more expensive that Dr. Spitz's old office, but with free vaccines, we believe it is definitely worth it. read more

We went to Companion Veterinary Hospital in Wayne, on a recommendation from a dog trainer after being extremely disappointed with the misdiagnosis, service, charges etc., etc. from another clinic. No matter where you go, be sure to do your homework on the practice first! Companion Veterinary Hospital is the BEST veterinary clinic! Dr. Morris is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! He has a great bedside manner, is very caring, knowledgeable and professional. He provided the best care to our dog and knew on the first exam what was wrong with her (we had been going to other vet for my dog's condition for over three months. It became obvious, we were not getting the proper treatment for our dog). We went to see Dr. Morris on Sunday, 3/10/19 and my dog was scheduled for surgery the next day, Monday, 3/11/19, for removal of a tumor on her pad. The Receptionist/Tech at the front desk was also fantastic. Top of the line care and customer service. Now that we have experienced the care we had for our dog at Companion, we will never go anywhere else. All our pets will be taken there. The practice is spotless and, again, the care provided was EXCELLENT, top notch across the board. Companion offers excellent treatment from a well-qualified, caring team. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Be aware that they (new vets) advertise "free vaccines" but they charge you for every other little thing which obviously adds up to being well overpriced. I did not find them in any way to be compassionate which I feel is important when dealing with our furry children. I am not sure what happened, but I took my pet in a for a checkup and after giving the medication they sent me home with, my pet went downhill within 1 1/2 days. I stopped the meds immediately when this happened but my pet passed away right after that. I don't see anything online about this med that is that bad but it is newer from what I read. I don't know if my pet died because of this med or of other reasons but it is very bizarre how it all happened and I will forever be wondering if they gave my pet something else they didn't tell me or what in the world happened. I am not in any way shape or form accusing or alluding to them causing the death of my pet, only expressing my very odd experience. Regardless, after being this and being overcharged, I felt it important to let the community know my personal experience when searching for a reliable vet clinic. read more

Only get 1 star because i cant give it negative stars. Most uncompationate vet I have ever met. Could have cared less how hurt we were putting our baby down in an emergency and everywhere else was closed on a sunday. I tried to tell him our dogs story and all he said was, Oh I dont know. He didnt let us say goodbye like he should have, just came in room amd injected her and said oh shes gone. Then we complained days later of the experience and tried making me look like the bad one because i was crying over a lost pet!! And then went on to say Im lucky he didnt charge me an emergency fee! For a vet whos not an emergency hospital!?!outrageous and unprofessional. He should be ashamed of himself. Indecent human being who should not be in the veternary practice. The amount I was charged to be treated like garbage and my pet treated like garbage is obsurd! As if losing my loved one wasnt enough that day. I have been going to Dr. Morris for about 10 years now and this is my first time at his newer office (his other office: Animal Care Center of New Jersey located on 62 Hamburg Turnpike, Riverdale, NJ 07457 in which I have been going to for 10+ years ). I have also seen Dr. Elshafie whom is no longer with the practice whom was wonderful. Dr. Morris is awesome and very caring. He takes his time to sit down and answer any questions you may have for him. I love hearing his animal stories as well and I enjoy receiving his pet stories via email too. His prices are very reasonable as well and his staff is very accommodating and friendly as well. Their new office is really nice, very well kept and clean. Dr. Morris has been there for us through our 3 dogs (unfortunately 5 years ago we had to put down our Belle and Dr. Morris was very compassionate when that had to be performed. Such a very hard time for our family). I would highly recommend Dr. Morris to anyone that wants a vet that is friendly, caring and takes his time with you and your family pet. read more
