I usually don't write reviews based upon a storage, but I wanted to give Chuck the utmost thanks for the advice assistance and support during my duration of me renting a storage unit here at compass storage, the entire time for 11 months he's been helpful and courteous during the time of the storm he assisted me me with getting through a hardship during the time of the storm. Chuck has been amazing. His patience and attention to detail really pushed me to get y to the next chapter. I just wanted to give Chuck and Brian a great thanks for being the wonderful people they are at heart. I initially picked this one because it is close to where I will be moving. I stopped in last week and spoke with Chuck, the manager. I was VERY impressed with his knowledge and attention to my needs. Today I decided to rent a storage facility even though I will not be moving for a month. Once again Chuck was extremely helpful and answered all my questions and concerns as he efficiently handled the rental process. Regrettably, as a result of my final transaction with the management, I must downgrade my rating to 1 star (I'd give zero stars if possible). Though I was promised a refund on any unused prepayment, I am now told that all prepayments are non-refundable. Fortunately I'm not out more than $200, but for management not to be fair and reasonable, and most importantly renege on a committment, leaves a very sour attitude about this company. They will charge you for fuel unless you return it with more than it left with. I repeat MORE. I got a truck with slightly under a quarter of a tank. Drove it 97 miles put in $30 worth of fuel and returned it the exact same place and got nailed with a 40+ charge. The only Uhaul I have ever used that his done this. I understand refueling, but it seems like the want to park it on a hill and say there's less. Will never use this provider again and will tell all other to stay away. read more

When I first went to compass, they had a first month free sign out and wouldn't honor it. My rent has gone up $50 in the 1and a half years I've been there. They couldn't get my auto draft right, so I kept having late fees. Now that I'm vacating, they don't prorate the price. I'm only gonna be in there 10 days into the month. I advise you go somewhere else. read more

I would never do business at this place after my experience today. We tried to park in their lot to go to the Sarasota Honey Festival, but they came out & told us we could not. We didn't argue, just said ok and parked on the other side of Florida Street (a public street). When we returned, our car was boxed in by two of Compass's vans. We managed to get out, drove by the office & waved to the guy inside (who had chased us from his lot). The guy came running out & charged our car as we were driving out, first putting both hands on the hood & glaring at us through the windshield, then smacking the passenger side window. I recommend to avoid doing business at this location (i.e., don't store your belongings here). My mother's unit was broken into twice and items were stolen; they came through the caging above the ceiling. The employee/manager was inconsiderate and lacked compassion when the theft was reported (the police were great though!). Unfortunately, people have been reported living in the units and they are the most likely suspects since the thefts appear to occur in the middle of the night. The company turns a blind eye to this. Theft of your belongings makes you feel violated but complacent staff (and maybe even complicit staff) makes the problem worse. read more

I have had the best experience with compass storage off of Beechmont Ave. Wonda & Josh the property Manager has been there for me in every possible way. Especially with me living in Florida for the past year & a half. Every issue I have ever been faced with they have been there 100 percent of the way to help me with my needs. I would recommend their services to anyone that needs their services. They are very hands on to your very needs. Once again I can't thank them enough for always being there for me. Clean , modern facility but a little difficult to get to since University is such a busy road. The access is secure by number code and there are always large trolleys at the ground floor close to the elevators. Useful to access out of hours if needed. Only downside is some confusion over charges, prices are increased and have an odd formula for adding insurance that defeats this math duffer, I also got a "rent check returned for lack of funds" from an account with PLENTY of funds.... read more

my rent went up $36 in 14 months and they will not honor the one month free that they advertised.......do not use this rip off company!!!!!! oh and then they will try to justify it because of demand ,, i should of went to a storage place that cares about their existing customers instead of the future once they want to rip off. read more

Rental process seemed fast and efficient. They do waive the first month rent but charge a $25 set up fee which offsets your savings. But it looks like a nice and safe place to store your extra items for awhile. read more

First - I have not experienced any of the downside other than, yes, they do raise the fees 2x yearly, more than my previous storage. Having said that I am very happy with Dick who has been very accommodating and kind to me - certainly a good PR man for Compass. Re. the premises - Dick maintains them - very clean and the storage area does not smell badly. Also, VERY important to me is the security - cameras, coded access and convenient parking. All in all, other than the 2x year raise, I am happy with Dick and his service at Compass. read more

Rented a truck from the Florida st location. Truck was very dirty and completely reeked of cigarettes. Also there was an error message on the screen stating there was no wiper fluid. Because of this error message the mileage wasn't displayed which I normally take a picture of. When I returned the truck I informed the same man that rented it to me of the problems and he had no response at all. Then he proceeded to charge me for mileage in the triple digit. I had the truck for 4 full days, but also had a rental car so I barely drove this truck except to the hardware store and back which was 5 miles away. He asked if I had a picture of the mileage out and I told him I couldn't take one because of the error screen. He told me I should have pushed the button and cleared the screen. I then asked is it really the customers responsibility to maintain the truck and clear error messages? He then yelled at me and said if I was just going to complain about pushing a button or anything else than he had no desire to help me at all. Extremely rude. Poorly maintained equipment and zero customer service. Stay far away from this business. read more

Great storage facility with great folks running it. It's like a high tech Ft. Knox that's open by access code 24-hours a day, which is very convenient for me. Nice large heavy duty elevators in a building which seems pretty new. I highly recommend it to anyone. read more

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! We arrived to our unit with 7 ladders (10ft & 12ft) and we didn't know how we were going to get them up the elevator, let alone fit them our storage unit. Jeremy and Gus came to our rescue and carried all 7 ladders up to our unit for us. Then they found a way to safely store and secure them in our small unit. We couldn't of done it without them! They went above and beyond and we are so thankful for all their help! read more

The management is very good and the place itself is great however the rent increases twice a year. In one year my rent has gone from $229 a month to $308. I would not recommend this place. read more

I have had a unit here for a few years. It's clean and close to my home but they raise the rates every 6 months, so my rental has over doubled in cost. I don't understand why they have to raise the price so often. read more

This was our first storage experience and our expectations were just blown away by the facility itself and most of all by the manager Dick (spoiler - he's awesome) -My brothers and I came down and rented two units for all of our stuff, Dick gave us a deal. -We needed a u-haul truck which they rent on premises for a couple of days, Dick hooked us up and helped us out with a great deal on the moving equipment. -He hooked us up with a lot of other stuff that I'm not going to mention because it would make all of you jealous. -When we were unloading during hours he programed the elevator to go to our floor automatically without us needing to enter our PIN # every time (it's a bigger deal than it sounds). -The facility is top-notch, its clean, orderly, cool and most importantly it smells good. -Dick really went above and beyond anything that I would expect a manager to do, a lot it being little considerate things like programing the lever for us that I mentioned before. -The facility has about 4-5 large hand trucks that you can use to pile your stuff on to make transporting it to your unit that much easier. Overall it was an amazing experience and the manager Dick is just a really swell guy that will make your stay that much easier. Update #1 - We had to go back down for another smaller move about two weeks later, and I don't want to into specifics but let's just say that Dick didn't let us down AT ALL and he even topped our previous experience with a giant cherry. Once again I really recommend the facility and especially the staff - and when you do go in and get a your own unit give us a mention, we're not easy to forget! signed - Best Dressed Movers :) read more

Compass Self Storage on University Pkwy is a rip off. We didn't use their storage facility (thank goodness) but we did use the Uhaul.com We returned the vehicle in the evening when the store was closed, this was our first mistake - only return when they are open because when we checked our bank statement they took an extra 31.63 When we question them they said we went over the five mile limit when we rented and they charge us for gas which we already paid for by filling the truck to the point they had it at (actually a little more) They also charge us for the trolley which we didn't use but had to remove from where it was situated (in the way of loading and off loading). Anyway, Compass wouldn't budge from the bill of nearly $70.00 We complained to uhaul and as of yet have not received a reply. If you rent a truck from this company make sure you take a picture of the speedo and the gas gauge. read more
