This is my experience: My husband and I were patients of Dr. Benton's for several years. In that time we liked dealing with him but found his staff to be unfriendly, discourteous, and unhelpful. But we kept seeing him because we liked him. We ultimately changed doctors because on two occasions (one for each of us) he prescribed a medication without discussing the long-term effects of the medication and treatment (my husband's case) or stating that the medication would not cause the harmful side-effects associated with other meds in that class and being wrong (in my case). In both cases we have suffered long-term negative effects from these treatments. We should have been informed this was a possibility (in my husband's case) and a definite (in my case). I recommend finding a different doctor. You have to be able to rely on what your health care provider tells you. read more

Dr Benton had been my doctor for many years since early 2000. He was a good doctor and always took care of me. Always friendly and took the time to explain everything medical. Today 01/04/2024 I stopped by the office because I needed a refill on my medication and I had been calling for the last couple of weeks with no answer or return call after leaving vm. The office was closed and many Notices posted from UPS left on the door about missed deliveries. Not a good sign because Dr Benton seemed to be fighting a serious illness. Hello, Happy Valentines Day to all. Thank you for reading this review. Please know that I am sincere. Except for being a patient, I do not have any other relationship with DR. BENTON and with his staff. From past to present, I have not applied and have not worked at CompCare Medical Group. Also, I do have a family member or a friend working here. Before I finally found DR. BENTON through a referral from my medical insurance, I was scared that all my previous doctors were so unhelpful. They did not like answering questions or explaining anything. They acted as if I talked too much and asked too many questions. They treated my questions like dumb questions. They talked to me as if I were a hypochondriac. They were impatient with me. I felt uncomfortable with them. With each previous doctor, I stayed in his or her care for one to two months or until I could locate another physician. Before I started coming to CompCare, I had changed doctors six times. Before experiencing these six unhelpful doctors over a period of eight months or so, I did not have medical insurance and did not go to the doctor at all for most of my adult life. I was 41. My goal was to be healthy with the help of a good doctor. Well, I have been living in San Bernardino County for 14 years. With much satisfaction every time, I have been coming to CompCare for ten years. To me, DR. BENTON has been completely and thoroughly the best. From past to present, I just do not have any of the problems that I did with my previous doctors. Truly, DR. BENTON and his staff are a blessing to me. I feel so blessed to have found CompCare. With all this said, I would like to give five stars. In these last 10 years, I have happily and enthusiasticly referred others to come to CompCare for Adult, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Sports Medicine. To everybody, I highly recommend DR. BENTON, who has done so much for me over the years in helping me to continue to be mostly healthy and strong. In my 50s, I am a woman with chronic conditions. After I discovered and applied to CompCare, I was accepted as a patient immediately. (As far as I know, CompCare is usually accepting new patients.) To my utmost delight, I was able to get an appointment with DR. BENTON for the next day. Unlike most other offices, I did not have to wait for weeks or for months to see the doctor because I was a new patient. As a patient over the years, I have been able to do walk ins, same day, and next day appointments. Each time, I got to really see DR. BENTON, not his nurses or medical interns, for exams. If I did not have medical insurance, I would not be able to afford services and treatments. DR. BENTON'S office accepts most medical insurances. With CompCare, I have not had problems with billing. At one of my previous doctors, I had been suddenly dropped as a patient because the doctor no longer wished to accept my medical insurances and she wanted to start charging more for services. It has not been this way at all with DR. BENTON, who is as kind as he is charitable and generous. Despite the fear and the panic in the early days of COVID, DR. BENTON was still accepting new patients. Before and during COVID, CompCare continued to keep a full staff and to stay opened with regular hours. In person, DR. BENTON continued to examine and to treat new and returning patients while other doctors were implementing telehealth services. Due to the spikes, to the surges, and to the variants, my anxiety levels were high. Whenever I visited CompCare for services, I would be clingy and needy with DR. BENTON and with his staff. Each time, DR. BENTON was patient, tolerant, and understanding with me. To me, DR. BENTON is also a hero for being around and available in such uncertain times. Truly, I do not believe I would have done very well emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically if DR. BENTON was not taking patients or was working from home. I am Southeast Asian. In times of the pandemic, blame, ongoing recession, food insecurities, and the rise of anti-Asian/Pacific Islander hate, I continue to receive conscientious, effective, helpful, useful, knowledgeable, experienced, and trained services from an unconditionally respectful, dependable, and professional DR. BENTON every time. DR. BENTON and his staff have strong communication skills. In regards to my health, there is nothing I have not asked. When it comes to my health, I am not shy. Because I care about my health, I choose DR. BENTON, who encourages me to be my own health advocate and does not treat me like some hypochondriac. I never want to leave DR. BENTON for another doctor. Dr. Alphonso Benton has been my primary Doctor for the past 12 years. He makes me feel comfortable and open to discuss anything health related. I had even moved away for 3 years, and granted I moved back within a 30-40 min distance from him, still make the effort to go see him due to his professionalism; my regular yearly checkups and physicals. He feels more like a friend to me also. He takes his time to listen and gives great advice. The staff is easy going also and I'm usually in and out within a half hour or so. Appointments are easy and takes a couple days to a week for me usually. Trust me people, this is the kind of doctor you want for your everyday health related needs. read more

Due to insurance changes I was forced to change medical providers ( chino hill's medical center) however was hopeful when I was assigned to Dr. Benton since it appeared his practice has every service needed to meet my medical needs.. The experience has been a nightmare.. first of all it took over a month to get an appointment for my husband who desperately needed a medication refill only for his first appointment to be cancelled on the morning of the scheduled appointment.. staff didn't try to accommodate anything sooner and rescheduled again for a month later.. to make a long story short.. doctor has cancelled 4x !!!! what a joke!! We have yet to be able too see Dr. Benton and at this point we are not interested. I am not sure how anyone can receive decent medical care from A place who continues to cancel appointments without any solution.. i am in the process of switching providers again!! It's truly sad when I had your staff on the speaker phone while my daughter was in the ICU at a huge respectable hospital at Choc. All the nurses and doctors in the room can vouch your employees behavior. And to add that I wasn't aware there is actually a medical complaint about you personally as a doctor till I read YELP. Trust me once my daughter heals I will transfer to Orange County. Maybe in the meantime you and your staff can learn how to be respectful and honest. If i could give no stars, I would. Horrible service. Today, I took my father to an appointment with Dr. Benton, for which we waited 2 hours in the lobby before we were able to see him. The appointment was due to an issue my father had that made his feet swell. We also had documents to be completed for him by a physician so that he can get services provided that are provided to the elderly (ie. discounted fee for utilities and inhome care services). During my father's appointment, Dr. Benton immediately concerned himself with the documents and not with the initial reason we were there. He asked why we needed the forms filled out by him. When I explained, he stated that my father did not qualify for in home services and that he was not going to complete the forms. He also said that my father didn't need any discount for utilities. He stated that my father's health issues were family issues and not medical issues. He stated that we as a family needed to figure out how to care for my father's daily necessities and not get help. He stated that my father's ailments were because he was lazy and from him making excuses and that he needed to exercise and that they weren't due to him actually having any real pain and discomfort. He told me to look in the mirror and I could find the cause of my father's ailments. He also stated that all we wanted was for the government to pay for him. We told him that my father had contiuous shortness of breath, could stand or walk for long periods of time, his back hurts, and needed additional assistance when family couldn't be available to assist him. He also stated that if we couldn't get my father to and from that, we should get him an Uber or a Lyft. He told us that my father is not going to get better if he just sits around the house and watch TV all day. All the while, he never did the routine vitals. When I asked him about his foot, he asked why didn't I tell him. I then explained that he didn't allow for me to tell him why we were at the appointment because he was too concerned about the documents. He still did not look at my father's feet or try to figure out a remedy or diagnosis. He was extremely rude, dismissive, and appeared to not care about my father. He also compared my father to him, saying, "I live alone," "I'm getting older," and I'm here working. This was my second time going with my father with Dr. Benton for an appointment. He was very unprofessional, and his behavior was erratic. We are changing my father's doctor. Do not schedule an appointment with Dr. Benton unless you want to be treated as such. read more

Dr. Benton was referred to me by an old friend; who is also a paramedic. He stated Dr. Benton was his Primary Physician and was the best. I found Dr Benton to be a real human being who LISTENS, Is PATIENT, and doesn't try to RUSH you out. Dr. Benton is a great man and is now my 2 year old Sons Primary. Couldn't get an appointment with the doctor in the first place, only a physicians assistant. During the intake the nurse (?) took my blood pressure, which was 109/81 (VERY good/normal) and she then looked me in the eye and asked if I had high blood pressure. The issue I was being seen for was persistent severe insomnia for months. I repeatedly told the physician's assistant that I do not have anxiety, I never have. She spent about 2 minutes with me and prescribed me Xanax... for anxiety. Went home that day and changed my insurance from IEHP to Kaiser because I'd rather pay out of pocket than go to incompetent pill pushers who have no idea what they're doing and no desire to spend long enough with a patient to get to the bottom of the issue. read more

I have no problem with the PCP here , he has always been helpful for me. Dr. Benson has always helped. My issue is with his medical assistants. I don't know if they are new or what but I called to see if I needed an appointment for a flu shot. I was told I didn't and I would just need to come in during business hours to get one. So I show up baby in tow and was told by the medical assistants I could not get a flu shot without getting a physical. Excuse me what?! All I needed was a flu shot and they wouldn't give me one. I asked to speak to their office manager. First they told me he was at lunch so I asked when does he get back then the story changed to a meeting and lunch and they don't keep tabs on him and don't know when he will be back :/ and all of a sudden it's office policy that you have to have a physical to get a flu shot when I called prior to coming and it was NEVER mentioned. read more

This office staff sent my referral request out 12 days later than the day they told me they will do that! 7 business days has past when I called them to ask what's going on with my referral request, they said it's not been approved yet and I need to wait. I asked them when they sent my request out, they said they don't know. The second day, I called my insurance company, the customer service told me this doctor's office just sent the request out today. So now I have to wait another 5-7 business days to get my confirmation of referral. This office staffs are wasting my time. I suggest you to call them 3 times to make sure they did their job or you will be like me to keep waiting and waiting, always waiting and finally find out that they forgot their jobs! read more

Went to see Dr. Benson's office in December for an irritation and rash to the tops of my feet. I was referred to see an allergist and was told that I should be notified in a few days about the referral. A week went by so I called the office and the office manager said a referral was still pending. A month went by so I called the office again the same male office manager said the referral was still pending!??, Fast forward almost 3 months later I still have not heard back from Dr. Bensons office about my allergist referral. My feet now scarred from severe itching and irritation awaiting my referral. I called Dr. Benson's office for the fourth time I spoke to someone named GIgi who was extremely rude and very unprofessional as I tried to explain to her that I've been waiting since December for my referral response and wanted to know why it's taking so long, she became irritated and told me, don't blame me she wasn't at fault. I proceeded to tell her I'm not blaming anyone in particular but I was told a referral would be given to me within three days and now it's been three months. GIgi continued to be argumentative and rude and unprofessional at which time I asked to speak to the office manager but gigi instead hung up on me! I called my insurance plan IEHPAnd made a formal complaint. I called Dr. Benson's office back to speak to the office manager who I've been speaking to since December he apologized for Gigi's actions and behavior and this time was able to generate my referral within minutes!!?? Why did I have to wait three months for my allergist referral? Why did Gigi have to be so rude and hang up on me because she didn't have the answer for their delays or incompetencies? My rash should not have become this severe had a referral been generated on time. I now have scarring due to Dr Bensons incompetent office staff. As a nurse I'm well aware of the referral system and how it works. I've been very patient with Dr Bensons staff but having Gigi argue with me and then hang up on me is not ok nor should it be tolerated by anyone. If I could give this office no stars I would. I left as a patient years ago when Dr. Moreno left, but unfortunately because of my children's insurance, they have still been patients here. Thankfully we have rarely needed to come here because the staff here are terrible. I usually request to see the PA because Dr. Benton is a horrible doctor. This time was the last straw and we will not be returning. My son was taken to ER because of a severe headache and we had a follow up with Dr. Benton's Office. He really seemed to want to brush us off and I didn't feel his exam was thorough (it never is) Thankfully I pushed for him to do blood work because it turns out after almost 2 weeks of being told it was "just a migraine" and "he's probably just exhausted" my son actually has mono. I called to get his lab results yesterday and was told they were mailed out and I had to wait for them so I asked to speak with a nurse. I was told someone would call me back and they never did. This morning I went into the office to pick up the results myself and they just handed me the lab results with no explanation or instructions from the doctor (which I was told were mailed to me) The Office Manager said that he didn't have any instructions from the doctor. I asked if the doctor would be in and he told me that he would and he would have someone follow up with me. I ended up calling to follow up because I didn't want them to close and have to wait another day. The girl I spoke with was incredibly rude to me and when I finally got an answer from the doctor she told me "you can just google it" Seriously!!?? Dr Alphonso Benton is amazing. I would give him a 6 out of 5 stars. However, getting to see him is nearly impossible. His office staff is very rude and they make you feel like you're inconveniencing them just by trying to make an appt. That, or it takes them a week to return your phone call. Office staff 0 out of 5 stars. The final straw was when I left a message Monday, 12/21, Tuesday 12/22, Wednesday, 12/23. I finally call them back the following Wednesday 12/30. The girl that answered the phone says someone should have answered last week when I called since they were open. I told them it went to voicemail. Not sure where she was trying to go with this. Making the appt was a whole different downhill story. Low and behold, I get a call the next day Thursday 12/31 from Dr. Benton's office saying they their returning my call. I told them I called over a week ago. She says that they had a problem with their voicemail and didn't get them until today. Fast forward to today. My husband had his appt and we are staying because we like Dr. Benton's professionalism and individuality. Dr. Benton, if you are reading this, please talk to your office staff about professionalism, and common courtesy. My husband, Sister In law and I have chosen to separate ourselves from Comp Care Medical due to the recent personal and uncomfortable atmosphere created due to the divorce of Dr. Benton and Dr. Moreno. I called last month to make an appointment to see my PCP Dr. Moreno and was told by the receptionist that Dr. Moreno was no longer part of the medical group. When I asked for forwarding contact info, they (get this).No forwarding information to offer me. It was also implied that if the receptionist gave me the information, she may be fired. Wow! My husband left phone messages for Dr. Benton to please call him regarding lab/test results and Dr. Benton never returned the call. Additionally, we were given the option to use the centers web portal and it didn't work. Today, I called to find out the procedure for requesting all our medical records as was told it would cost $ 25.00 to get a copy. A second option is to have our new doctor send them a medical records release and that it takes 5-7 business days to get records. It would be nice (and professional) if Dr. Benton would be accommodating to "All" the patients of Comp Care Medical Group and leave his personal issues at home. A letter offering updated information should have been sent out letting us know or at the very least, provide the information when on the change when people all into make appointments. I feel sorry for the staff at the office that might have to deal with this sad change. I would not recommend this office or Dr. Benton based on our family's own personal opinion. read more

One lady was just rude, made me feel bad that one of the nurses spent time on the phone calling my Health insurance company. they have no regard of how their patience are feelings. Facilities: nice and clean Nurses: this is where the bad part comes in... There are some that are nice, but otherwise they are the LEAST helpful group of nurses I've ever met. 1) filling out new patient papers- they didn't let me know I needed to fill out more than one page and they didn't go over what any of the papers were for ( I wish I had known I DIDNT HAVE TO sign up for some of the stuff) 2) I had to fast for my blood to be drawn- there were no instructions on drinking water or not. 3) I requested a specific doctor that day, and was given a junior doctor... As I told her my ailments, she just kep suggesting to lose weight and rolling her eyes at me. She was rudely hesitant to give me an EKG for my chest pains. Very uncaring- until she saw my blood results and realized I may have some serious issues... 4) No follow up on serious issues - she wanted me to get a second drawing which I didn't have time for, but she didn't even call or tell me when to get another blood test. They had patient portal setup, but mine is no longer available either because they went with a different system or i've been gone that long. I would have to agree with the prior complaints. The employees, such as the front desk clerks, act rude and unprofessional. I also see that other people have had issues in regard to getting referrals for different medical centers. I went in for a referral on a Friday, but when I called the medical group it was sent to exactly a week after for a status update, I was told that the referral was not sent until the day before. In other words, while I was told that the referral would take 5-7 business days to be processed, the referral was not even sent until 6 days later. I am also writing this message during the time of COVID-19, and no one in the establishment was wearing masks. Very disappointing. read more

Office is nice and doctor is great but service needs to be improved. They never called my insurance to check what was covered and what was not considered routine. I walk in for my routine check up and thought everything was fine. At the end, the receptionist asked me to pay a $20 co pay. I thought that was strange since my insurance said I don't need to pay it. I asked if she called and she said yes and I have to pay. So I trusted her. I called my insurance when I got home and they confirmed I should NOT have paid. I call back and told them I called so they said they'll review it. I get my refund check in the mail a few weeks later. Later, I receive a bill for my blood work. Again, I call my insurance to check why it was charged. They said the office ordered some tests that were not considered routine. Again, I had asked them to only check for things that are considered routine and to check with my insurance. I guess I trusted them too much and now I'm stuck with an expensive bill with tests that I did not need at my age. read more

My issues are very minor things. Like physicals, throat cultures, allergies, etc. my previous dr.'s office seemed to be busy all the time and I would have to wait 30 minutes or longer even with an appointment. This office is open every Saturday AND I don't wait more than about five minutes after I step through the door. They always have time for me, the scheduler is super nice, and they treat me sincerely every time. They also do blood tests in house. I don't have to make a separate appointment with quest diagnostics. That's was always a hassle with my previous doctor. Now on to Maritsa and Michelle. Maritsa is a nurse and Michelle is a PA. Their bed side manners are great! They try to inform you of every detail of your treatment so that you can better treat your condition. They are the biggest reason that I give this office five stars. Michelle is very knowledgeable and accommodating. Maritsa smiles and laughs and makes coming to the office more pleasant. I know that I'm going to be well taken care of and properly treated for whatever condition when I see them. I highly recommend this office. Wait. One more thing. Just wanted to post an updated review as this office is still just as great as it was when I first came to CompCare. I came about a month ago, and wanted to do a routine physical and well woman's check up. Apparently there was a miscommunication with the scheduler, and I was told only the physical could be done. When I reiterated that I didn't really have free time to come in for a separate appointment due to my work schedule, they squeezed me in to do both anyway, which was a huge relief for me. I received a bill last week in error, as my services were coded incorrectly. I called and spoke to the scheduler, and she directed me to scan the bill and email it to the office. It was handled within 2 business days! This is exceptional, and again, another reason I will continue to use this medical group. I don't know how anyone can say anything bad about this place. I've never had a bad experience here. The nurse who took my blood, and vitals when I came in for the visit was really kind, gentle, and it was an overall positive experience, as I have come to expect from CompCare! Love, love Dr. Cynthia Moreno! I've had quite a few doctors but none that are caring & thorough as her. Most doctors would just give you prescription to whatever pain you are feeling but she takes the time to listen and questions your symptoms. She will advice to take a mild OTC drugs but she will take the necessary steps to test you so you can get the right treatment. I recommended her to my parents & my mother like her also, she said "this doctor is good; she actually cares." Their office is up to date on technology which means you can email the doc with any questions you may have & vice versa, all results will be emailed to you! I've had a doctor where they require you to come in & see the doc, having you wait 30 minutes, pay the copay, & only to come & find everything is normal, a 1 minute convo...wtf?! The nurses are also very gentle when taking your blood. I couldn't feel a thing, although I can't say that it's all the nurses there but, so far, they've been gentle with me for the last 3 years or so. I can't say this review goes for the other doctors located here but I only recommend Dr. Cynthia Moreno because she's the one that has treated me here. read more

Dr Benton is excellent and the facility is about as good as it gets. Very clean and comfortable leather couches with complimentary water bottles in a little fridge. Friendly staff. The only problem is that I never have to wait more than a minute or two! Seriously. Dr Benton is affable with a very concise and clear way of explaining things. Great doctor. read more

Do not go to this doctor! The staff is unprofessional and very rude they are not understanding of the things that you have going on in your life rather than theirs they're more important. Do you know that if you are you don't show up three times that they kick you out has anyone ever heard of that? And it's me and two kids?? I have never heard of that I have a new doctor now who is fantastic And it's really sad because I really really liked Dr Bentons but I really did not like the staff the staff is rude they would not let me talk to the doctor at all they probably didn't never told him that I needed to speak with him and a lawyer even told me what they're doing is not right !please do not go to the doctor! Yes they'll give you what you want and what you need but like I said I had a really good relationship with this doctor and I still can't believe that they kicked me out the way that they did and they're getting paid for my insurance to be there And on another note they never once told me about if you don't show up three times meaning I did show up I was just late but to them I'm a no-show so they never told me they said it's in my thing that I signed so always read everything that you sign because they put little things in there that can put you in a mess that I'm in now. The staff is rude especially the woman in the front both of them do not deal with him because they will argue with you and argue with you and argue with you they're very unprofessional I can call them and leave them messages they never call you back nor really care what happens to you the doctor should order a new staff or he's gonna lose all his people. I'm sorry Dr Bentons but I tried to talk to you and they wouldn't let me they wouldn't let me wait to talk to you they weren't giving you messages that I was calling constantly to talk to you all I wanted to do was sit down with you and figure out what was going on I'm sorry that I have to do it this but maybe now I can get your attention and let you know exactly what happened and what has been going on I was at work graveyard shift the last two times you know I can't call at work I work at Fed-ex I did show up but they kicked me out. I'm not happy by the way I was treated I didn't deserve to be treated that way after all the gifts and everything that I have done for you guys in that place. It's just really sad that we have to part like this.... and just to let you know Dr. Day did not tell me anything about that they were going to kick me out nor did you tell me that at all about the three rule thing that you guys got going on.
