What makes this even more frustrating is that all of the damage to my vehicle and the agreement regarding the oil change were documented in my file. Despite having a record of everything that occurred, they still refused to honor the commitment. A business should stand behind the promises it makes, regardless of staffing changes. I made an appointment this afternoon for a 6pm tire patch. I prepared my vehicle and headed to the store, arriving 15 minutes before my service time. As I was heading into the establishment, I received a phone call from Ashley(?) who informed me that they would be unable to keep my appointment since they were closing at 6pm. The call center stated the hours and took my appointment. The internet shows that the location is open until 7pm. When I told her that I was already in the parking lot, she still would not acknowledge my appointment and perform the service. A patch is (maybe) a 30 minute job -- and the location and type of puncture in my tire would've taken less time with an experienced technician. She still refused service, but wanted me to return another day or to leave the car until the next business day. I usually don't have a problem when doing this, but the appointment was made and denied. If I would've known Ashley would've canceled the appointment upon my arrival, I could've used that time to find another business to complete my repairs. I almost shopped KT years ago when looking at tires, but I was warned against using their services. In this emergency, I didn't recall those warnings and (foolishly) thought that a business would keep at least the bare minimum of promises -- appointments and times. I was wrong. Lesson learned.

Wednesday they had no time available so Thursday they decided there was a bent wheel causing this. "Joe" the Manager says I hit a pothole. When I said I did not, he snarkily said "In 10 years you haven't hit a pothole??!!" as if I am lying and I say I've owned it 8 months and no pothole. He says he is moving it to rear so I won't notice it. I say this will prematurely wear a new tire, he rolls his eyes and tells me no and not to believe the internet. Meanwhile, the truck in the bay next to mine has been dropped off the lift so he is scurrying around looking at it. I go back to waiting room and owner of dropped truck looks like he cannot believe they have actually dropped his truck, I felt so bad for him. I go back out there and wait by my car for "Joe" to return and then I am told they have discovered 3 bent rims. I say I had no issues with my old tires, I have not had an accident, hit a curb or hit a pothole, and an inexperienced tech( like the one who just dropped the truck) must have damaged them when removing/installing. I am appalled by this situation and appalled that they did not "discover" any of this when they were balancing them the first time. "Joe" gets defensive and says he was not here when they were installed. He does not apologize for any of this, is annoyed that I am questioning this, does not tell me where I can get them repaired, does not show me economical wheel options in his store, calls the dealership and tells me they are $546 each and to go there. All along he has been short and snippy and extremely unprofessional, I am shocked that he is a manager and that this is how he provides customer service. I tell him I want the phone numbers to corporate and his boss. He says them extremely fast so I ask him to write them down. He refuses, he says type them in my phone. Again I say I need you to write them down and he refuses. I say his customer service is the worst and he is the rudest manager I have ever encountered anywhere. He tells me I am the rudest customer ever and to leave his store. Never, ever in my life have I experienced anything this bad as a customer from a business. I waited there for an hour until corporate customer service returned my call and made an extensive recorded report. Meanwhile, I am unable to go to North Carolina for the holiday weekend because my new tires and steering wheel are vibrating badly and I don't want further damage to my vehicle, the new tires or to risk my safety with a blowout.... Zero stars for this location and "Rude Joe", 1 star for salesman "Chris" because at least he told me to stay safe out there as I was leaving the store.

Pre-check review: 4 Star Rating Brought my car to be checked before Christmas Eve and was told there was only one individual (mechanic) working. Dave told me I would have to stay the whole day and he would not have that (probably looking out for my best interest as the alternative was what made my next experience a nightmare). The issues: Needed to get my driver's side window working, it is a manual that cranks. Check engine light came on the Friday before Christmas (had never had this happen to me up until now with this car or really, with any car). 12/31 I came back in. The desk representative Dave told me bluntly that I would have to leave the car for the whole day and they would work my car into their schedule. He also mentioned that for check engine light type problems, they are not able to do diagnostics. I guess they use trial and error to figure these problems out? I asked if I could be dropped off by someone and that was not a problem (I wish I knew that this was an option closer to Christmas Eve, but now I know that this could backfire on me in the future). Diagnostic review: 3 star rating Received a 11:13 a.m. call to tell me the following: They diagnosed the check engine as a catalytic converter problem/exhaust. They could not fix it. My manual window problem also could not be fixed because the parts are discontinued. It would have to be done at a dealership or autobody shop. I was on standby the whole Friday, waiting on the amount they would charge for labor and time. The newly forming issue was that I was dependent upon someone from here, picking me up. 1 Star Rating I call back multiple times closer to 6 p.m., panicking because I had not received any calls since 11:13 a.m. I tell Dave I needed to be picked up to get my car and pay what I owe (cell phone history evidence of this tagged as incoming and outgoing calls). He was making excuses that OTHER people were not there and he was the only one left. If I were in his position, I WOULD personally go out of my way to pick that customer up from his house to get his car, even after business hours. Calls me back at 7 p.m. Tells me my only option is for him to leave the key in the lockbox and I will have to go out of my way to pick it up. He needed to go to his New Year's occasion thing. How SICK is that?! So that means he can sleep at night knowing he stranded a customer. Not only that, his suggestion was to Uber it. Was S&S Tire going to reimburse me for the Uber (necessary that I mention, I told Dave I would pay him gas mileage to pick me up)? Probably not. Verdict: They will offer to drop you off at your place on courtesy, BUT you have to find a way to come back and pick up your car (they may not verbally tell all this to you in the beginning). He ended up calling the owner (which If I was in his position, I would do it, so the owner did not have to hear it from the customer). The result? Dave paraphrasing him stating that "they are not obligated to do it." Now I ask this, what kind of owner states this? I do not care if it is not a Commandment or a law. You state on good faith that you will drop someone off, common sense would state that you need to ask if that person needs to be picked up (REGARDLESS). I go to complain to their corporate and one cannot even get through to contact them. The contact email listed is retail@sstire.com, not even a recognized email address. I find supplemental information that they are hqed in Lexington, KY. It dawns on me that this is probably why the business is so shady. First of all, it is family owned not nationalized, which means their corporate ethics are limited to state law. Since KY's government here is very deregulated, these kind of business practices fly a lot. Pick up experience: 12/31 I personally walked 4.7 miles (I live close to this location) to pick my car up. It had taken me about an hour. Probably the farthest I have ever walked anywhere in my life other than the one time I walked to IN N OUT in CA from a bookstore! Found out that Dave did keep his word on our agreement that he put my car key in the lock box along with the $0.00 invoice. Recommendations: Guys, do not get into my situation. The reason why I stated earlier that this is a shady situation is because mechanics can put an ultimatum on paying them the same day. If the customer cannot, they can put a liens or state falsely that there was a refusal to pay, which I would have to prove was not the case in court. Luckily, I was not charged anything. Verdict: They even have a mission statement, so why not follow it (especially the owner)? I would give this place less than 1 star…read more Documentation from all repair shops mentioned below can verify the following information. 1 - 02/2024 - I visited E/P on Boston Road to have my thermostat replaced - cost $400. 2 - 04/2024, I heard a rattle from the engine compartment. I took it to another repair shop who told me 'the bolts used to put the thermostat back on was the wrong size, were forced into the screw openings, & the internal threads for the screw hole had been stripped [I never thought impact wrenches were THAT strong]. The only place that touched anything regarding my heating system was E/P on Boston Road. 3 - I took the car back to E/P, showed them the results from the other repair shop, and spent significant time convincing them the work they had done on 02/224 was done incorrectly. As a result, E/P agreed to fix the problem for free. 4 - Flash forward to 12/2024; the heat quit blowing in my car again. I took it to another repair shop and was informed of the following: the last person who fixed the heating system did it wrong; they put in a thermostat that was WAY too small; the bolts to secure the thermostat was the wrong size, & all bolts were forced into the screw hole, and as a result, most of my heating system needs to be replaced [sans the heater coil]. 5 - When I informed the new repair shop of the work & then re-worked my car by E/P when I returned in 02/2024, they had only replaced ONE of the faulty-sized bolts. All four should have been replaced if all bolts had been forced into the wrong opening. E/P did not replace the other three that were too small & the incorrect size when I made them do a re-work in 04/2024. A $400 repair has now cost me close to $2,000. The new repair shop could forensically trace the problems back to the originating install. This significant financial impact should serve as a cautionary tale for potential customers. Given the information above, the decision is in your hands. Choose wisely, and good luck.

This is my statement about recent dealings with Auto Excel in Lexington Kentucky:…read more On May 7th, I took my car in for repair, because; The driver's side headlight would go out and then back on. A chattering relay above the passenger side sliding door. The driver's side sliding door will sometimes close and then pop back open. Also on a few occasions the battery would be drained after sitting overnight. I received a call later that day stating that the battery had a bad cell and should be replaced. For me the call was misleading as I thought this was a necessary step toward fixing the issues stated above. I was charged $507.17 for the new battery and installation.. Then on Friday, an e-mail came asking for authorization to pursue three items - internal dash noises - oil dye - and the sliding door issue. The three when added up totaled over $500, and only one was related to the reason I took the car in. I declined and went to get my car. When I was there, I asked to see the old battery - it was already gone. I was told that they did a voltage test and that it read around 10 volts, (12v - 2v = bad cell). When I parked the car in front of their shop the battery voltage read 14.6v (the new battery reads 14.3v). There was absolutely no information about the new battery. No manufacturer's name, no model number, no warranty card. After a second request, we did get a copy of their purchase receipt from Advance Auto. When I got home, I looked the battery up on the Advance Auto website - The battery was listed for less than $250 installed. I parked the car for three weeks. The first time I drove it, the headlight went out, by the time I got home the headlight was back on. I wrote a three page letter to the owner, Mike Barrett. I posted it on their website message board, I e-mailed it to Mike Barrett directly, and I sent a hard copy in the U.S. Mail. I received no response from Mike Barrett. (Did he ever see my letter?) I did receive a response from Cole Barrett, (the Service / Marketing Leader at Auto Excel). This is the man I have been dealing with. I sent a second letter, this time to Cole Barrett, on Friday June 5th. Between the two letters, I received six e-mail requests, and additional text messages, requesting "Favorible" reviews". With both letters, I requested a refund. Even a partial refund would be better than what was offered. First these statements from Cole Barrett: "The issue that was solved is the vehicle starts and runs," "which was solved by replacing the battery and its bad cell" Nothing was solved! - The issues had not changed - the headlight, the chattering relay, the door popping open, and the fact that something had drained the battery - those are the issues. The new battery does not solve anything. If something shorts out, the new battery will drain just like the old one did. Also, the car starts and runs just fine. I drove it to his shop. Now, What was offered: " The best I can offer is to further inspect and evaluate those other issues at no charge. " "Alternatively, if you bring the battery back I can exchange it at no charge, allowing us to refund you back the amount of the battery." The fact that Cole offered further services at no charge is an acknowledgement that "Something's not right," (which is what I stated in my first letter). The offer to refund the cost of the battery if it's returned is an insult. I would have to go somewhere, buy a battery, have it installed,and pay a $22 reclaim fee, (because I won't have an old battery to return), then take this battery back to Auto Excel for the refund. Cole Barrett wants me, the customer, to jump through a bunch of hoops to resolve an issue he created. In the letter dated June 5th, Cole Barrett's last words are - "Thank you and have a blessed day!" It felt like sarcasm. In some of the e-mails I'm referred to as a "Valued Customer." Really? The car still needed to be repaired. I had to save some money, and then took it to another repair shop. They resolved the headlight and battery drain issues. They also provided real information on the other two issues. The bill, $450. That's less than Cole Barrett charged me to replace a battery that was not defective! I wish I could, but I cannot recommend Auto Excel. My experience with them was painful. I won't be going back! I wasn't having problems with my vehicle, but I drive it all over the US and Canada and need to keep it reliable. They offer the exact service I needed, where they do a complete vehicle inspection. What I like is that they send a text when completed with a complete breakdown of the results, including pics when necessary (see picture). I had them do a lot of work for me, as I hadn't really done much to the van maintenance-wise for the first 100,000 other than oil changes and replacing the air filter. It was three days of work on the vehicle, so that gives you an idea of how much work I had them do. Was it cheap? Not to me. But I'm an old man. Everything seems high to me. But it was quite a bit cheaper than dealership costs, which is exactly what I was looking for from an independent mechanic. And while I wasn't having any problems with the van, I can definitely tell a difference in the way it is running now. It runs like a new car. And they offer a three year/36000 mile warranty on their work. That's a fair deal. So, while I had some shock at the cost of maintenance, it was pennies on the dollar compared to replacing with a new vehicle. I probably spent six months of new car payments on maintenance, which is pretty good math in my book. I'll be working with them again in the future.
