I had the most delightful experience with everyone at Auto Excel! The detailed service report including pictures of the inside of my vehicle impressed me by far! What impressed me the most was the level of true service overheard for another man that was having service done to his vehicle - they gladly got a lyft driver to come and pick him up after an unexpected amount of time had been added to his wait! This is my statement about recent dealings with Auto Excel in Lexington Kentucky: On May 7th, I took my car in for repair, because; The driver's side headlight would go out and then back on. A chattering relay above the passenger side sliding door. The driver's side sliding door will sometimes close and then pop back open. Also on a few occasions the battery would be drained after sitting overnight. I received a call later that day stating that the battery had a bad cell and should be replaced. For me the call was misleading as I thought this was a necessary step toward fixing the issues stated above. I was charged $507.17 for the new battery and installation.. Then on Friday, an e-mail came asking for authorization to pursue three items - internal dash noises - oil dye - and the sliding door issue. The three when added up totaled over $500, and only one was related to the reason I took the car in. I declined and went to get my car. When I was there, I asked to see the old battery - it was already gone. I was told that they did a voltage test and that it read around 10 volts, (12v - 2v = bad cell). When I parked the car in front of their shop the battery voltage read 14.6v (the new battery reads 14.3v). There was absolutely no information about the new battery. No manufacturer's name, no model number, no warranty card. After a second request, we did get a copy of their purchase receipt from Advance Auto. When I got home, I looked the battery up on the Advance Auto website - The battery was listed for less than $250 installed. I parked the car for three weeks. The first time I drove it, the headlight went out, by the time I got home the headlight was back on. I wrote a three page letter to the owner, Mike Barrett. I posted it on their website message board, I e-mailed it to Mike Barrett directly, and I sent a hard copy in the U.S. Mail. I received no response from Mike Barrett. (Did he ever see my letter?) I did receive a response from Cole Barrett, (the Service / Marketing Leader at Auto Excel). This is the man I have been dealing with. I sent a second letter, this time to Cole Barrett, on Friday June 5th. Between the two letters, I received six e-mail requests, and additional text messages, requesting "Favorible" reviews". With both letters, I requested a refund. Even a partial refund would be better than what was offered. First these statements from Cole Barrett: "The issue that was solved is the vehicle starts and runs," "which was solved by replacing the battery and its bad cell" Nothing was solved! - The issues had not changed - the headlight, the chattering relay, the door popping open, and the fact that something had drained the battery - those are the issues. The new battery does not solve anything. If something shorts out, the new battery will drain just like the old one did. Also, the car starts and runs just fine. I drove it to his shop. Now, What was offered: " The best I can offer is to further inspect and evaluate those other issues at no charge. " "Alternatively, if you bring the battery back I can exchange it at no charge, allowing us to refund you back the amount of the battery." The fact that Cole offered further services at no charge is an acknowledgement that "Something's not right," (which is what I stated in my first letter). The offer to refund the cost of the battery if it's returned is an insult. I would have to go somewhere, buy a battery, have it installed,and pay a $22 reclaim fee, (because I won't have an old battery to return), then take this battery back to Auto Excel for the refund. Cole Barrett wants me, the customer, to jump through a bunch of hoops to resolve an issue he created. In the letter dated June 5th, Cole Barrett's last words are - "Thank you and have a blessed day!" It felt like sarcasm. In some of the e-mails I'm referred to as a "Valued Customer." Really? The car still needed to be repaired. I had to save some money, and then took it to another repair shop. They resolved the headlight and battery drain issues. They also provided real information on the other two issues. The bill, $450. That's less than Cole Barrett charged me to replace a battery that was not defective! I wish I could, but I cannot recommend Auto Excel. My experience with them was painful. I won't be going back! Professional auto mechanics. I would strongly recommend if you're searching for a mechanic. I had over 100,000 miles on a van, and I needed to have several maintenance issues looked into. I wasn't having problems with my vehicle, but I drive it all over the US and Canada and need to keep it reliable. They offer the exact service I needed, where they do a complete vehicle inspection. What I like is that they send a text when completed with a complete breakdown of the results, including pics when necessary (see picture). I had them do a lot of work for me, as I hadn't really done much to the van maintenance-wise for the first 100,000 other than oil changes and replacing the air filter. It was three days of work on the vehicle, so that gives you an idea of how much work I had them do. Was it cheap? Not to me. But I'm an old man. Everything seems high to me. But it was quite a bit cheaper than dealership costs, which is exactly what I was looking for from an independent mechanic. And while I wasn't having any problems with the van, I can definitely tell a difference in the way it is running now. It runs like a new car. And they offer a three year/36000 mile warranty on their work. That's a fair deal. So, while I had some shock at the cost of maintenance, it was pennies on the dollar compared to replacing with a new vehicle. I probably spent six months of new car payments on maintenance, which is pretty good math in my book. I'll be working with them again in the future. read more

I stopped in about a month ago to a quote on repairing an oil leak. I was told I had to have an inspection first which the cost would be waived if I had it repaired there. Very reasonable. I was given a quote of over 6,000 dollars that included 2,500 for the oil leak and about 4,000 for other issues. I appreciated having the 52 point inspection but these prices were a red flag to me. I have since taken my vehicle to another shop and had all the repairs done for literally half as much as I was quoted here. Not saying these guys don't do quality work, they were also very professional. However in the current state of inflation it's worth noting that this place seems to be on the high end of the price scale. read more

I don't think there is such a thing as a positive experience when dealing with a broken car and a repair shop. It's almost always going to be a costly inconvenience. That being said, these guys did great. My problem was diagnosed quickly, they gave me several repair options and didn't pressure or guilt me into the most expensive one or try to sell me anything I didn't need. I took my Ford F250 truck to Auto Excel thinking I had a coolant leak. They went over my truck with a fine tooth comb didn't find a leak but made me aware of problems that I wasn't aware I had on the truck. From the time I walked in the door and met with Cole, I knew I was in the right place. Everyone there was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I can't say enough about their expertise. Had my truck towed in to their shop, would start,ran like crap..diesel.. My scan tool said improper contribution on cyl 2 and 6...Shop charges me 900+ to remove valve cover and confirm injectors 2 and 6 are bad...Hell we knew this to start with...they want 3550.00 to install a full set of injectors...High...I think so 1550.00 just for two. We asked if there was anywhere in walking distance to eat while we waited for the car but there wasn't, so the owners mom was gracious enough to drive us to get food! Ripoff! I took my blazer there to find out what was wrong with it and they called me a few hours later telling me it would cost $6000 to fix my ride and a minimum $3200 to get it back on the road( I drove it there). They, of course had financing options. I told them i would just come and pick it up. $137.50 is what they charged just for looking at it. Nice guys who charge triple for everything. What a ripoff!!! I did have them arrange to have my vehicle towed in. They seemed nice enough until I got the bill. The towing charge was a promised at $65.00. That was fair. That is where the fairness stopped. Prior to going into the shop, I priced out a serpentine belt for my 97 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan. Auto Zone had their top of the line belt for $39.99 with a 3 year warranty. I also priced out a tension pulley assembly. It was $42.00. It is remarkable that my diagnosis of my problem was exactly what they said was wrong with it after they did their $95.00 diagnostic evaluation. They also found that the alternator was in need of tightening. They quoted me a price of over $400.00 to replace the $42.00 part and put on a belt. I told them to put the belt on and let me drive it home. Their charge for the belt alone was over $82.00. The bill came out including the towing charge in the amount of $205.00. Just to replace the belt. When I got home, I purchased the pulley assembly and went to my local garage. They charged me the flat rate charge of 3/4 hour of labor (total labor $45.00) to put on the pulley assembly and the belt. The total paid for pulley and belt was less than $90.00 not $400.00. These guys went over my car from top to bottom. It took 2 days. They sent me a link to my phone and one to my email address showing me with pictures what was wrong. They took pictures of everything they looked at, which impressed me. I felt like my car had its first yearly check up. Something dealerships apparently do not do. They found what was wrong and it pointed towards a dealership not doing a recall correctly. I verified this with a different dealership and the customer service hotline. They even took pictures showing me the part that was not replaced as it should have been since it was a recall. Now the car is parked waiting for the purge valve to come in which will be the middle of January at another dealership. But I fully intend to take it back to these guys to have the rest of my issues taken care of. I cannot thank these guys enough for finding out the problem. They even got me a ride home since I live in Frankfort. I would highly recommend these guys to everyone if you really want to know what is wrong with your vehicle. read more

Excellent service and prices. I called four different places in Lexington and Auto Excel had the best price. When I arrived, they were very pleasant. The waiting room is very nice, with comfortable chairs, free wifi, and a Keurig machine. There is a TV, but I'm glad it was turned off for the most part (I brought work with me to do). As I was waiting, I got a text that provided me with the diagnostics of my vehicle (which was included in the oil change I came in for). BEST thing I've ever seen. They included pictures of my battery, from the computer diagnostics systems, my tires, and my air filters. I usually buy/replace air filters myself, and they did not pressure me to go with them (It's so much cheaper if you do it yourself). I needed my tires replaced (which I knew coming in) and they agreed to match the lower price I found on the Tire Discount website. its probably not fair to write a poor review when I only took my Audi there once and the engine failed after a oil change and engine flush plus a fuel system flush of some sort?? My main complaint is the lack of response from the owner when I asked him if they have ever experienced engine failure in the past after using there flush system. He could have at least responded. I called Auto Excel after having my vehicle diagnosed by another certified establishment. I was only asking for a rough estimate on problems that I KNOW to need fixed. They needed my name and phone number before allowing me to ask a question. Then, he flat out refused to give meany information. Said that one of his technicians would have to diagnose it. So basically, I drive an hour and pay to have someone tell me something I already know before giving me an iota of information. Not happening.
