This review rated this business a four star and then it decreased to a one star all within a span of one day. Pre-check review: 4 Star Rating Brought my car to be checked before Christmas Eve and was told there was only one individual (mechanic) working. Dave told me I would have to stay the whole day and he would not have that (probably looking out for my best interest as the alternative was what made my next experience a nightmare). The issues: Needed to get my driver's side window working, it is a manual that cranks. Check engine light came on the Friday before Christmas (had never had this happen to me up until now with this car or really, with any car). 12/31 I came back in. The desk representative Dave told me bluntly that I would have to leave the car for the whole day and they would work my car into their schedule. He also mentioned that for check engine light type problems, they are not able to do diagnostics. I guess they use trial and error to figure these problems out? I asked if I could be dropped off by someone and that was not a problem (I wish I knew that this was an option closer to Christmas Eve, but now I know that this could backfire on me in the future). Diagnostic review: 3 star rating Received a 11:13 a.m. call to tell me the following: They diagnosed the check engine as a catalytic converter problem/exhaust. They could not fix it. My manual window problem also could not be fixed because the parts are discontinued. It would have to be done at a dealership or autobody shop. I was on standby the whole Friday, waiting on the amount they would charge for labor and time. The newly forming issue was that I was dependent upon someone from here, picking me up. 1 Star Rating I call back multiple times closer to 6 p.m., panicking because I had not received any calls since 11:13 a.m. I tell Dave I needed to be picked up to get my car and pay what I owe (cell phone history evidence of this tagged as incoming and outgoing calls). He was making excuses that OTHER people were not there and he was the only one left. If I were in his position, I WOULD personally go out of my way to pick that customer up from his house to get his car, even after business hours. Calls me back at 7 p.m. Tells me my only option is for him to leave the key in the lockbox and I will have to go out of my way to pick it up. He needed to go to his New Year's occasion thing. How SICK is that?! So that means he can sleep at night knowing he stranded a customer. Not only that, his suggestion was to Uber it. Was S&S Tire going to reimburse me for the Uber (necessary that I mention, I told Dave I would pay him gas mileage to pick me up)? Probably not. Verdict: They will offer to drop you off at your place on courtesy, BUT you have to find a way to come back and pick up your car (they may not verbally tell all this to you in the beginning). He ended up calling the owner (which If I was in his position, I would do it, so the owner did not have to hear it from the customer). The result? Dave paraphrasing him stating that "they are not obligated to do it." Now I ask this, what kind of owner states this? I do not care if it is not a Commandment or a law. You state on good faith that you will drop someone off, common sense would state that you need to ask if that person needs to be picked up (REGARDLESS). I go to complain to their corporate and one cannot even get through to contact them. The contact email listed is retail@sstire.com, not even a recognized email address. I find supplemental information that they are hqed in Lexington, KY. It dawns on me that this is probably why the business is so shady. First of all, it is family owned not nationalized, which means their corporate ethics are limited to state law. Since KY's government here is very deregulated, these kind of business practices fly a lot. Pick up experience: 12/31 I personally walked 4.7 miles (I live close to this location) to pick my car up. It had taken me about an hour. Probably the farthest I have ever walked anywhere in my life other than the one time I walked to IN N OUT in CA from a bookstore! Found out that Dave did keep his word on our agreement that he put my car key in the lock box along with the $0.00 invoice. Recommendations: Guys, do not get into my situation. The reason why I stated earlier that this is a shady situation is because mechanics can put an ultimatum on paying them the same day. If the customer cannot, they can put a liens or state falsely that there was a refusal to pay, which I would have to prove was not the case in court. Luckily, I was not charged anything. Verdict: They even have a mission statement, so why not follow it (especially the owner)? I needed tires on my vehicle after the recent snow storms. Taylor got me from ski's to ice grippers with my new tires. David was very friendly and helpful. You really need to try and schedule to get in there, but situations happen. They always try and fit you in as fast as they can. The waiting room is pretty spacious. There are restaurants close to wait in. The parking lot is tight but they will accommodate. Wheelchair accessible, but you should probably call ahead so they can accommodate. As luck would have it right before going on a vacation road trip, we ended up with a nail in a tire before we even left Lexington. After being quoted a three hour from the Volvo dealership for them to even look at the tire, we ended up going down the road to S&S. We got extremely lucky and was able to be immediately helped by them and was only quoted about an hour wait for them to patch up the tire. One thing I loved from the get go, was how friendly the staff was. Also the fact that even though we clearly lacked any tire-knowledge they didn't try and up sell or sucker us into anything we didn't need. That alone helped establish a sense of trust that so many mechanics seem to lack. I could tell that they would rather have repeat customers than just trying to make a quick buck off of our unfortunate situation. I dropped in early Friday afternoon(8/10/18)for a low tire due to a nail. The shop was unusually busy, but they were gracious and worked me in. The wait was 1 1/2 hours. I went in due to a tire losing air and basically being flat. I figured for sure they'd say they either don't do patches or would just try to sale me on getting a new tire, which I definitely was not wanting to do since the tire itself was still in good shape. Luckily they immediately looked at it patched in an didn't try to sale me a tire which Is really appreciated it. Seems like most auto or tire prices always push for you to buy a tire since they make much more off of it then a patch. I was in and out in maybe a max of 30 mins . People seemed friendly, but I went for an oil change and after waiting for well over an hour, asked for an updated time estimate and it would have been another two hours still. I asked if was typical for an oil change there to take 2 1/2-3 hours and they told me it was. I can't speak to their tire services, but will never go back for an oil change. read more

Took my car in for two new tires and asked them to replace pressure sensors which I thought were responsible for slow air leaks in both tires, on account of deteriorated o-rings. To start off with their quote on the sensors was $90 less PER WHEEL than my normal shop - Ken Towery. Then they called me up said the old sensors checked out fine and no leaks were detected when fitted with the new tires. Furthermore if I had trouble with a super slow leak that they couldn't detect, just bring in for new sensors installed at same cost. These guys are great! read more

I can't stress how amazing this place is. In my experience, mechanics can be really rude and condescending to females. The guys at S&S tire on Richmond rd are always super nice, friendly, helpful and patient. I've taken my car there for several things. (I'm kinda rough on my car) I have never had a bad experience there. I always recommend this place to others because it's normally very fast, and if they're reeeeaally busy then they tell me it's going to be a while and usually offer to take me back home so I'm not just sitting there bored.
