Grout is already cracking on the floor in the large bathroom. Grout in the showers is wearing away. I'm just doing the repair work instead of calling the company because of how the owner treated me. It looks great if you don't look too hard. If you want to have a say in how the work is done I would not recommend. I contacted Mike regarding remodeling my bathroom, based on his great reviews here on Yelp, and after working with him I am convinced I could not have picked a better person for the job. Mike pays meticulous attention to detail and is super helpful. He went with me to various stores multiple times; picked up heavy items that I ordered from various stores (tiles, vanity, shower doors, toilet); and would answer all my texts promptly with all my Nervous Nelly questions. He never made me feel like any question I had was too silly or dumb. And the work he actually did on my bathroom???? Oh my gosh, BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!! I hated everything about my bathroom for the last 20 years I've lived here and wanted every single piece of everything in there, from floor to ceiling, removed and rebuilt / replaced from scratch, including removing a heinous drop down protrusion from the ceiling that apparently was only put in by the original builder as some sort of attractive architectural design feature, but it was the exact opposite of attractive. Mike and his assistant Walter worked so hard and diligently on my bathroom and transformed it into something that has exceeded all my wildest dreams! Please see the before and after pictures to truly appreciate how awesome Compton Construction is. And I can assure you I will be using Mike again to do a similar transformation on my other bathroom! It is with great pleasure that I am writing this review on Compton Construction.  Mike Compton, the owner, is an outstanding carpenter and a man of integrity. His costs are fair and reasonable and are all supported by receipts. As such, I went with a firm-fixed price labor contract including his costs for miscellaneous supplies as needed (lumber, wonderboard, paint, etc.) thereby giving me the ability to pick and choose everything from the bottom up; floor tiles, backsplash, faucet, kitchen cabinets and lighting, etc., at a cost palatable to my budget and more importantly, my taste! I went with Granite Expo (GE) as I am retired and had a strict budget in mind.  Mike being the nice guy that he is, went above and beyond....he met me at the store where he provided all the measurements and answered all GE's questions! He even went so far as to pick up and deliver all the merchandise! Performance: Mike and his crew arrived at my home on time or early everyday. He was attentive to all my requests and changes while offering ideas based on his personal experience.  He turned my 1970s kitchen into a 2020 dream come true. It should be noted that Mike takes no shortcuts. It is obvious that he takes great pride in his work as revealed in the final outcome. The best part, it only took 2 weeks!  Wow! Called Mike answered, needed to install two custom very difficult to install toilets, he gives me the best price from all other plumbing or contractors. This was just about the most professional job I've ever seen done. We hired Compton Construction to assemble and install a plastic Rubbermaid storage shed in our yard, including materials and labor. Mike called the day before to ensure he was picking up the right shed. By the time I called back he had already checked the SKU online and verified it in my email. He arrived for the job half an hour early and did more than the actual job order called for: he leveled off the ground, removed an existing bike shed from the site, and hauled away the debris from the old bike shed completely free of charge. I reached out to Mike after a bathtub cracked in my house. This resulted in a leak into the garage ceiling and mold ended up growing on the garage ceiling. After I had this removed I called Mike and unlike the other contractors he actually took the time to return my call. He promptly scheduled a time for him to come look. Mike mentioned two directions that I could go. 1) replace the tub with something similar or 2) replace the tub with something nicer and upgrade the bathroom. We ended up upgrading. Mike did incredible work, his quotes were pretty much exact - no surprises. Mike is a good guy, easy to talk to and someone you can definitely trust in your home. About a year ago, with the help of Amazon's Landscaping (a 5-star experience as well - see my other review), we had a re-graded, nicely laid out backyard. The next step in our backyard plan was to create a space we could enjoy with some shelter from the searing summer heat. We had inherited some funky, rustic indoor furniture that would be ideal on a back porch, if we could get coverage from the weather (since the pieces were not really made for the outdoors). We decided to try Home Depot's new referral service, Red Beacon. We described what we were looking for - a large covered porch that would be completely rainproof. After receiving a few bids, we liked the vibe we got from MICHAEL COMPTON of COMPTON CONSTRUCTION. He gave us a rough estimate, but requested an opportunity to discuss our project in order to firm up his estimate. Michael was on time, and over the course of the project, he continued to be very respectful of our schedules, showing up when he said he would and making consistent progress on our project. Michael is a flexible perfectionist in the best way possible. He can work with a limited budget, and has all kinds of creative ways to get things done well. At the same time, when it comes to the quality of his work, he makes no compromises. For example, we had a large amount of lumber delivered to our house for the project. He hand-picked the flawless pieces, and took the flawed boards back to Home Depot - exchanging them - at no cost to us - for flawless ones. He finished the project - by himself, without the aid of any uninsured workers - within three days. It was exactly what we wanted and it came in more than 100 dollars under budget! We were particularly impressed with his solution for rain drainage - he created a system that channels all the rainwater that falls onto the roof into a standing rain barrel for re-use in our vegetable garden (see picture). We then hired Michael to install a deck under the roof and he did a beautiful job on this as well, once again showing flexibility with the plans and impeccable workmanship (see picture of the completed project). We have since hired Michael for a variety of projects, large and small (e.g. punching a new door between two rooms, installing a rain chain, rigging lines of café lights against the house and to some posts he put in as opposing supports). He did all of it to code and exceeded our expectations by working quickly without taking any shortcuts. He consistently came in very close to budget and we did not have any "oops, I forgot to estimate this cost to your final bill so I'm adding it now" experiences which we have had in the past with other contractors. While we were tempted to keep him all to ourselves, MICHAEL COMPTON DESERVES A FIVE STAR YELP REVIEW. He is now our go-to guy for any future construction projects we may have, large or small. He earned our trust and we highly recommend that others consider working with him as well! He patched up some drywall, matched wall texture, installed fresh carpet padding then tacked down all loose carpet and finally, reinstalled the baseboards. Fantastic job. I had a few carpentry items that needed work including a load-bearing post that was rotting and needed replacing. We hired Mike to patch up and paint the drywall in one of our bedrooms, and also to shorten the legs on our counter height table to regular table height. From the outset, Mike was very honest with us, and told us there is a risk of our counter height table being wobbly if he shortened it. We appreciated his honesty with us. Knowing the risk involved, we asked him to shorten it anyway. But the table turned out great --- there was no wobble at all, and now the table better match our kitchen! Mike is also very meticulous when he patched up and painted the drywall in one of our bedroom. He wasn't satisfied with just an "ok" job. He wanted the job to be perfect. Found Michael Compton of Compton Construction via Thumbtack. We needed a simple installation of a new kitchen sink faucet. The quoted price was sent via Thumbtack, and Mr. Compton showed up at the hour promised, installed the faucet (after having to go to the hardware store for an extension needed for the undersink hoses), and charged a minimal amount more for that in addition to the quoted install price. The job was well done, We are extremely satisfied with the work, and Michael Compton's professionalism. read more
