08/01/2024 I have never had a good experience at this grocery store. Tonight was horrendous. When I first walked in I was greeted with hostility. It was 9pm and they don't close till 10pm, I was out by 9:38pm. The lady followed me all over the store and complained that I was taking too long. She accused me off shoplifting and searched me, found nothing of course. I gave my wife my bank card and went outside to cool off cause this was a pure load of shit. The lady follows me outside five minutes later asking me what the price is on some of the items I was purchasing. Like, do your job and walk your fat ass to the back and look. Don't chase me down trying to pick a fight. Do yourself a favor and go to Kroger, 2284 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37217 down the street. They have better food, cheaper prices and a much friendlier staff. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Compton's Foodland grocery store for a few items that we had forgot to grab for camping. Compton's Foodland was a good grocery store for food and wood for campers nearby at Anderson Road Campground. Staff was nice. If I'm ever in the area again, I will return. read more

We have lived 2 miles form Compton Foodland for 24 years. The staff has always been helpful and polite to us. A good alternative to the big boy supermarkets with easy convenient parking. Some say their prices are high, store is dirty and unorganized but have you been to Publix lately. Considering how rude customers are throwing products around after they don't want it and just throw it down wherever it lands, the store is suprisingly organized and clean. I've been camping in Nashville for three weeks now. I spent the first two weeks at a different Corp of Engineers campground, but they only allow me to stay for two weeks at a time. Last Wednesday I had to break down and pack up all my things and move to another campground. Them I had set up my camp again. I brought a lot less stuff this trip so it was much easier. I didn't miss a single thing that I left behind. I'm trying really hard not to over pack. I come to Nashville (from Athens GA) as often as I can and usually stay two to four weeks. There's no way I can afford a hotel for three weeks or a month at Nashville prices so I opt to camp. I camp frequently, usually at least twice a month for several days, so living in a campground just isn't really a big deal. In fact I enjoy it unless it's really super hot and then it really sucks. I do have a really good portable fan so that helps Anyway, I had consumed most of my food and supplies so I had to go to the big box store and re-supply. When I came out of Anderson Road, I saw that there is a Compton's Food Land store right there in the small corner shopping center. It's a lot closer than the nearest Walmart so I stopped there to get my few things. I bought some vanilla almond milk (yummy!), a little six pack of eggs, a big jug of water, some orange energy drinks and ice. Oh yeah I should mention that a 10 pound bag of ice and it was only $1.99. I have bought a lot of ice in the last three weeks and that is a great price. I would stop at the 7-Eleven near my other campsite and it was $2.79 for a 7 pound bag. I paid almost 7 dollars one time for a 20 pound bag. That's annoying because my cooler won't hold all of that and I have to throw a bit away. Sometimes a 7 pound bag just isn't enough if my cooler doesn't have much in it. Compton's is a small local grocery so they did not have a great selection on some things. But they had comparable substitutions for everything that I wanted. I was not unhappy with any of it. The store is well laid out and easy to find things. I do wish that the signs that tell you what can be found in each aisle were on the end of the aisles where I can see them. They are hanging from the ceiling in the middle of each aisle. My long distance vision isn't the greatest, so I had difficulty reading them. I am sure I'm not the only one with that issue. I went to check out and it was quick, easy and the cashiers were very efficient. There were plenty of checkouts open to take care of everyone so no waiting. My cashier was very friendly. We chatted like old friends while I was checking out. It's pretty cool having a small decent grocery store that close to the campground. When I go to the other campground, the nearest grocery store is several miles away. And it's a big Walmart so it takes me a while to get in and out, especially as I tend to wander around and buy crap that I didn't even come for! ha ha I guess a lot of us do that. Wow I just drove by a guy working on a car and his shorts were halfway down his butt and I could see at least 8 inches of his crack. I know y'all didn't ask for that information but there it is. That'll be a bad place for a sunburn. TMI I know but I am feeling extra chatty today. ha ha As a final word, if you are near the Smith Springs/Anderson Road area, just pop in to Compton's Food Land for anything you need. Well. Not bad, but a disappointment all the same. I was searching for a local store, not Kroger or Publix, hoping to find at least some interesting local stuff. Or at least some good snacks to take to my hotel. Meh. Service was very friendly. Prices are kinda high. And, not much local stuff. Local chips? One brand. Local pop? Nah. Not much prepared food (a few generic potato salad/chicken wing/etc things.) I had also hoped to pick up some baked goods for breakfast. Again, meh. They had a little bit of everything, and you could do your regular shopping here. But for a visitor, disappointing, and if I lived here I'd end up at Publix for the better selection and prices. I purchased some ground beef and in two days it was brown. I took it back to the store and the Manager questioned why I didn't cook it right away and acted like she did not want to refund or exchange. I have shopped at this grocery for at least 30 years and have never been so disappointed and disrespected. The only saving grace for me to give them one more chance is that the Butcher personally thanks folks for buying his meat. Compton's has the Best meat in Tennessee and it's fresh you won't find better prices than Compton's,the entire store is nice and clean and the people are extremely friendly and helpful I love going to Compton's if you like souse meat they have the BEST,I would recommend Compton's over any store in Tennessee I absolutely love this Food Market read more

I normally love the store but today was terrible. One of the supervisors was very rude to me The lady checking me out left me standing there while she went to talk with someone. Then a supervisor came over who was sarcastically checking me out. I left and didnt take receipt. She followed me outside and handed me my receipt and I told her no. I was already upset. Then she walked off saying " no I dont want it". Then I cussed at her and told her to shut up. I was wrong but she is a store manager! I have been going to that store for 18 years. I've been shopping at Comptons Foodland for quite some time now . The service and stock have gone downhill. In fact so much that the meat i purchased a few days ago made me and my husband sick . This store is light, the staff are friendly and it seems well kept. Prices are decent. The bathroom is as clean as most grocery's. But the treasure I didn't expect was the fresh baked caramel pecan cookies. They're some of the best cookies I've ever eaten. They look as list as they taste, oversized and Chuck full of butter, caramel and enough pecans to taste. I am so glad this store is not near my home. Too much temptation because they also sell am almond joy cookie. My appreciation to the baker. Even weeks later, they are still on my mind. read more

There is a smart aleck pricing-manager named Betsy at Compton's who is disliked by so many of the employees and so many customers, it's pathetic. I went in there today and was in line about 2:15 p.m. and the underage cashier asked Betsy to ring my alcohol and Betsy said right in front of me "no, I'm not helping her. I'll get someone else." The young cashier looked at me with so much sympathy and kept looking at Betsy's back as she walked to the office. Debbie came out and rang up my 6-pk of Coors and was perfectly cordial, as always. I don't know what Betsy's problem is but I've been going to this grocery regularly since 1998 because it's close to my home and I've had to deal with Betsy's attitude all of these years and I've had enough. I've seen her berate the employees in front of customers, flirt with women's husbands, talk about inappropriate subjects in front of - and TO - customers and young employees. Today was the last straw. I'm considering filing charges of harassment and defamation because of all the times she has bullied me in front of customers and employees. One time my husband and I were in line and she made us BOTH show I.D.s for the beer. I was 58 at the time and my husband (disabled now) was 63. Unbelievable bullying and for some reason, Betsy continues to get away with this unacceptable behavior. She is loud-mouthed and caters to the customers she knows but if she has a pick at you for whatever reason she comes up with in that mentally-unstable mind of hers, watch out. P.S. to the owners...I spend no less than $300 a week at this store so their BIG SIGN in front that says they value their customers isn't all that accurate. Two days ago I visted Comptons Foodland for the first time. Upon entering the building I noticed a foul smell. So I assumed it was maybe a plumbing issue so I continue on in to do my grocery shopping. As I start to shop I noticed the floors were a little sticky. They were out of stock of alot of things I was looking for. So I went to the meat section and purchased some ground beef. I went to check out the lines were long and the clerk was not very friendly. That night I used the ground beef I purchased at Comptons for dinner. The next morning my family and I were all vomiting and had severe stomach cramps. I took myself and my family to the urgent care center and the Dr confirmed it was food poisoning. He then asked what we all ate the day before that was the same and I told him the dinner . He stated it was the ground beef that was most likely out of date that gave us the food poisoning. I don't complain or do reviews at all but I feel that this is a major concern that the public should be aware of. I will not be back to Compton's Foodland . I should've left when I walked in and smelled the foul smell. read more

I love mom and pop grocery stores, even more these days. Often when Publix (who disturbingly run short on too many things) and Kroger have some bare shelves, Compton's rarely does. Sometimes not the selection of fancy stuff, but they dorst and potatoes down home just great. I always enjoy coming here. read more

For several years I've had this store slice country ham for me, usually 8-10 slices, and a good amount of thickness. Today I called and was told they would not do this, as they only have 3-4 whole hams left. So, they have ham in stock, but no longer providing a service I found valuable, and is what is for my Christmas morning breakfast. What a shame that you are no longer providing this service for me, and probably a few others. I will never be back.... that got me in the door, and typically wound up leaving with several bags of groceries. Bad service..... and yeah, I will be that person that tells 20 more people. We have lived in this area for 28 years and Comptons is right around the corner from us. When we are short on items or need something in a hurry, it's off to Comptons we go. They have remodeled the store and it looks great. The employees are always so helpful and pleasant. Their prices are in line also with the other stores and they have lots and lots of sale items every week. read more

We live 5 min from the store. It is so convenient to just hop in the car and run down to pick up a full load or just a couple of things. Love the staff. The young people are attentive to you and not on their phone while checking you out. Though you may not find everything you need you may find things you don't find in other stores. read more

Great neighborhood grocery store. You can tell it's family owned by the extremely friendly staff. The store probably hasn't changed much in the past couple of decades, which gives it personality. The prices are generally a little higher than Kroger, but it's worth the convenience and how fast you can get in and out. Compton's Foodland is one of the few "mom and pop" type grocery stores left around. The prices are reasonable and although they may not have everything you'd find at a larger store, they do have a pretty decent selection and good meat. Even though this part of Nashville doesn't have the best reputation I've never had a problem here or felt unsafe. read more
