I'd somehow missed Compucal during a fruitless search eight years ago for a company that could make a home service call to troubleshoot and fix my aging digital piano. Several notes would make a distracting popping/clicking sound on return to their resting position after being struck. I had learned to live with the sound but it was a constant annoyance and had gone on for far too long. Fast forward to 2018: I stumbled across Compucal on the Internet and gave Ron, the owner a call. I was immediately hopeful by Ron's positive attitude and willingness to help. His technician Ruben arrived the following morning and in short order, my keyboard was working like new. I've known and called on Ron, the owner, and Ruben for almost 5 years and they have been very nice and super helpful. Very fast response (same day or early next day) so that's great when you are stuck. Last problem was Friday and within 1.5 h, Ruben was at my office and fixed my printer. Great service for my Yamaha CLP-535 keyboard. They took care of everything having to do with my warranty service, including diagnosing the problem (3 keys were at 100% attack even when softly pushed), then procuring the needed replacement parts directly from Yamaha, then coming to my home and installing them in my keyboard. The technician was extremely knowledgeable and also a true New Yorker which means good conversation as well. It's getting harder and harder to find anyone around that can fix anything REAL so be happy these guys exist. Before you know it all anybody will know how to do is write f***king apps. read more

This place is one of the only authorized Canon service centers in the NY region that fixes broken Canon printers and scanners. My old, i9100 Canon workhorse printer broke. I had to get it fixed in a hurry. They fixed it like new. It's still going a year later. When the time came to pick it up, they kept the business open late for me so I could get it. Really nice folks. Don't be put off by the less than stellar appearances. These people know what they are doing, have reasonable prices and are very considerate. Now my old scanner is broken and I will bring it here to be fixed. read more

I brought my all in one printer to check since it was acting up. After I dropped it off they charge a $30 non refundable fee just to tell you whether they would be able to fix it or not and told me in 2 or 3 business days they will call me to let me know the status. I ended up calling by the 5th business day and they couldn't get to it due to backed up work. Finally after the 8th business day I called back only to find out that they couldn't do anything and they will keep my money. I understand they charge for checking your defected item but $30 it's too much. They probably didn't spend 20 minutes on it and for that they kept my $30. I didn't appreciate that one bit. Not to mention they're rude and not friendly and their location is odd. read more

You get what you pay for, STAY AWAY. I called to have my Casio electronic piano fixed. One of the keys was stuck in the up position, so they sent a guy to my apartment to repair it. After about 10 mins of taking apart my keyboard he told me he could not take it apart any further because it was "glued together". I pointed out that he missed four screws, and here we go.... When he was finished "repairing" my keyboard I noticed the "fixed" key now sits 1/8" lower than the other 87 keys. OK fine, at least it works, but two other keys were now not working! He made the problem worse! He then tells me that the keyboard is warped and that I need to replace the entire thing. WHAT?? Its only a year old!!! When I called their dispatcher to tell him about the incident the guy gives me an attitude and is very dismissive. I ended up taking the keyboard apart myself and, surprise surprise, the keyboard now works fine. Guess I didn't need to replace the entire keyboard after all... Its one thing to make a mistake, its another thing to give me awful (and expensive) advice, but its yet ANOTHER thing to give me an attitude about it after the fact. These guys are unprofessional hacks. Go somewhere else. read more

I've used Compucal for years. Ron is expert, helpful, responsive and goes the extra mile. When I first used Compucal to fix my Canon printer, Ron had to custom make a part for it and didn't charge for the extra work. The printer worked well for another 5 years. They apply their diagnostic fee to repairs and keep in touch if there are any glitches. They are very accommodating and can pick up and deliver. read more

Avoid this place - it is a rip-off- they charged 30 dollars non refundable to "examine my Canon all-in-one to see if it could be repaired and estimate the cost of the repair-I was asked to pay the full price in advance -122 dollars - because a 'piece' needed to be bought and the owner did not want to get get suck with it if I changed my mind- ok- promised to have it fixed in 1 or 2 weeks-I had to call every week for one month to ask what's going on /?First and second excuse was the store had a backlog of work but would catch up- third and four times the excuse was my machine is taking more to time to fixed than expected and was not charged enough for the work??? I paid what was requested- Finally after more than 6 or 7 weeks, I told the owner fix it or return my money- He did not want to return my money- paid through American Express- immediately- but only at the end of the month- or after 3 weeks.......why???? did not want to return my old machine- what do I want it for- It is broken??- Why does he want it /????? have an idea- he suggested that I buy from him a new machine and pay the difference in price - send me an email to buy a Canon all-in-one old model for 250 dollars-suggested price by Canon is 150 to 200 dollars - you can buy it online for 110 to 120 with free shipping-We are now april 7 and the money was not returned of course- I have complaint to American Express and will also file a claim with NYC Consumer Dpt- the sad thing ,this place is recommended by Canon -they will also receive a complaint AVOID THIS REPAIR SHOP read more

SCUZZY, UNPROFESSIONAL, BAD!!! First of all, Compucal was too pushy to get my business. I was calling all the numbers I got from Yamaha for a person to service my electronic piano. One of the keys was sticking, which meant the entire keyboard needed replacing and I was shopping around for the best price on the labor since the board was still under warranty. The man I had spoken with to find out what they would charge called me repeatedly for days after insisting he needed to know if they were going to do the work for me. I finally explained I had found a man who would give me a better price, so "no, thank you." But he wouldn't take no for an answer and offered me what seemed like a better deal. (It wasn't really, I'm just really susceptible to sweet talkers and easily bullied into decisions). So he sent a tech to my house who was a very nice man. He asked if he could work on my desk, which we had only bought 2 weeks before, and I said yes and left the room so as not to hover. He was fast and polite and left only 20 or so minutes later. After he had gone, I sat down at my desk and noticed 3 gouges in my desk top! He hadn't used a pad to protect my furniture! I wrote an email to the man I had spoken with on the phone and explained it was a brand new desk and asked how he would like to resolve the problem. He said he'd talk to his tech and get back with me. He never did. I think if he had, I wouldn't be so upset... ESPECIALLY that, now, only 4 months later, several of my keys are not working properly! I can't believe it! Not only did they ruin my desk, but the keyboard was installed poorly! Now I will have to pay someone else who actually knows what they're doing to fix it!
