Total amateurs. Don't even bother with this barbershop that pretends to also be a "watch repair shop". They have literally a shelf on the right side of the entrance. THAT is "84st Watch and jewelry Repair" as listed in Google. What a joke. Not only did he try to overcharge me (by grossly exaggerating the amount of time he worked on my watch by 12X- his claim of 4 hours versus professional opinion that estimated "maybe 20 minutes"), he also stripped one of the screws of my watch as mentioned by other previous one star reviews. He also scratched the face of my watch. In addition young man who attempted to replace my watch band has a serious attitude. He tries to be a good con artist. I could see him pausing every time I asked him a question thinking of just the right answer. Not only is he not professional, but gets impatient if you ask him too many questions. This "repair" shop (barbershop) has a really seedy vibe like some cheap hole in the wall you'd see on 42nd street. The kid is a hyped up, impatient, amateur and nowhere near the kind of professionalism needed to do a job like this. Instead I went to "Alex Jewelry" at 1435 Lexington Avenue between 93rd and 94th Street. It's a real jewelry store with professional people who care about helping you. An absolute pleasure! They really should stick w/ hair & NOT watches (same guys that work on hair do watches), since 4 out of my 6 watches that I brought in for battery replacements either got scratched or nicked on the faces or backs when they worked on them & they lost 3 of my original screws for the back of 1 rare watch!!! They may be cheap & fast but not careful. Definitely not a place to bring your expensive watches to! :( By the look of non-stop traffic of guys coming in for a haircut, this is a good & quick barber shop! read more

The crystal on my watch popped off, as well as the small arrow. Michael fixed those issues. HOWEVER! I have a mechanical watch and it now NO LONGER WORKS. And he refuses to issue a refund. He fixed some things, but broke the main function of the watch. Avoid this repair shop, especially if you have a mechanical watch! EDIT: my crystal popped off! So this was not ultimately fixed. Based upon the positive Yelp reviews, I just attempted to get my Michael Kors watch battery replaced here. When I first entered the shop, all employees were busy cutting hair. I was greeted and asked to take a seat. I was told I would be "next." After waiting for 10 minutes, one of the employees came up to me and asked to see my watch. After a quick examination, he returned my watch to me and said another employee would help me. Then, he proceeded to cut a man's hair who had walked in the shop after me. After waiting an additional 10 minutes (20 minutes total at this point), the second employee finished the hair cut he had been working on and asked for my watch. After 10 minutes of "working" on my watch, he approached me to say he would need me to leave the watch with him for an hour. I asked "why" and he replied that he "needed a special tool." At this point, I became concerned that my watch would be damaged or lost if I left it there so I asked for it back. Sure enough, he had striped two of the four screws by attempting to open the watch without the proper tool. Why not tell me that he didn't have the proper tool to begin with? Why waste 30 minutes of my day and damage my property? This is a barbershop NOT a true watch repair shop! They can't even properly replace a battery -- PLEASE BEWARE. read more

When I went back to pick it up, the guy hands it to me, I gave him my 25$ and left. Outside, I paused to put it on. The chain was broken in the middle. What the...?! I walked back in and showed it to him. He looked at it, then said that he didn't do the repairs himself, that he sent them to someone else to do the repairs. You mean to tell me that this guy sends his repairs out to a third party but doesn't even bother to check the work before he hands it back to the customer and takes their money? "Looks like he forgot to put the pin back in" the guy said to me -- you know, to hold the watch band together so you could actually put it on. "You're gonna have to come back. It'll be ready next week," he tells me, clearly none too concerned that he'd wasted my time on a busy Saturday. I went back the following week -- he didn't have the watch. Maybe I went on an off day. However I was not crazy about the experience. I was first quoted a price of $10 for a battery replacement. After the work was done I was given a cost of $15. I would have preferred to be given the cost of $15 prior to the work being done so I could avoid the awkward moment. However we agreed on $12. Once I got back at home I noticed several deep scratches on my Valentino watch which must of occurred when they were trying to remove the back of the case. I will not be going back I do appreciate that it took only 10mins but I prefer people taking their time and being careful in avoiding scratches. Came in to have my Cartier watch's battery replaced - found this watch repair store since another reviewer mentioned having the battery replaced in her Cartier watch, as well. It only cost $10, and the guy was very friendly and figured out why my watch didn't initially start working again after the battery replacement, and cleaned up that situation (I think it was rust). Really good experience, and am planning to come back to have the crystal face of a Stuhrling watch replaced, which they said will cost $30 if they can order the right size crystal, and will give me a call to let me know. read more
