I was referred by Apple Care to Computerland of Berkeley as I was still having wifi issues and also not being able to use my airdrop on my iPhone with my iMac. Took my computer in and got it back in less than a week. Gina was very helpful and wanted me to double check that the airdrop was working and we plugged in the computer and it wasn't. However one of the technicians figured it out and got the airdrop working again! There was no charge for the service as my iMac is covered under Apple Care. Pretty mixed feelings on this place. They did good work at an acceptable price, but communication was awful. I kept having to call back every few days to get updates on when my computer would be ready. I was told multiple times I would get a call on a certain day and never received it (at least 2 times, maybe 3). Paid $30 to diagnose iPhone 13 issue - it did not turn on despite charged state. They performed a reset and charged an additional $60. Same thing happened a few months later. Searched online, performed my own reset and it worked. Apple Genius bar offered likely reason for problem (iPhone storage nearly maxed out) and diagnosed without charging me. They were surprised that Computerland had not entered their "repair" into the Apple database and had also charged $90 for the basic reset. read more

Earlier this year my computer (windows 10) crashed. I thought I was up a creek. I needed a new computer and transfer as much data and as many of my old apps as I could reclaim. I tried Best Buy, but they would not transfer my apps. After checking around I re-discovered Computerland (I remembered them from the old days; I did not realize they were still around... long story short they built me a new computer and I was able to reclaim a fair number of my old apps, since windows 10 is going away soon I upgraded to W11 as I suspected MS-windows is still the devil I know ) it was not going to install on my old computer anyway (something about a chip configuration on the old MoBo). I still have a few problems but it is not with the computer, Computerland did an exemplary build my problems are with Microsoft, Mozilla,and Google none are fatal, just annoying, I can work around them with no difficulty. If one needs a computer I recommend Computerland without hesitation. One more thing I am using a desktop tower workstation configuration. read more

I was sent here from Apple.com for my nonstarting computer and they were able to diagnose within a day and replaced the HD the next day. It was working perfectly then and crashed again so I took it back and they found out that the fan was not working and that's why the first HD was fried. It's a bad day when you get a black screen on your iMac but it was a good day when I took the ancient thing to Computerland. It could not be saved but for less than the price I thought I would pay to repair my old computer, I got a new old computer, with all my data saved and uploaded. Gus listened to how I used my computer -- mainly for writing, email, and Internet searches (no games, etc.) and met my needs beautifully. Great customer service all around. Computer repair places know that they have got you in a vulnerable place, with your trusted machine not working. They could take advantage of you. Computerland did not. *Update they extended the warranty, but 90 days. Hopefully it will still working after 90 day. The problem was that my computer wouldn't turn on when I tried to push power. So I called Apple to repair my computer and tech support told me to I need to bring it in to be looked at. There was no appointment was available at the Walnut Creek or Emeryville BART Apple store for a couple days. Tech support said that closet place to drop it up off was at the Computerland in Berkeley. I was nervous about not going to Apple to fix my computer but the reviews on yelp was great. Finally, I decided to drop it off at the Computerland in Berkeley. First they charge $40 to see what is wrong. I was ok with the charge so left my computer with them. After 5 days, someone calls me back to let me know it will $500 fix my computer. I had a heart attack. I guess motherboard crashed. So I decide to yes to fixing my computer. Few days later, my computer is ready so I go pick it up. They guy tells me 90 days warranty on the part and 30 days warranty from Apple. That's not a long warranty. What if something happens after I guess you out $500. THREE DAYS LATER...... my computer is doing the same thing that I did before I spend $500. Barely used it. I called Computerland and they respond to tell me that good news my computer is still under warranty. It has only been THREE DAYS. He finally said that can bring it in to look at and that I would have pay if it is outside of my warranty. I couldn't believe it. I dropped. my computer off. Once again they brought the warranty up. My computer should have been fixed after the first time. After a few day, some call me to pick up the computer. They said that motherboard needed to be repaired again. Wait!!!!!!!! I thought motherboard was supposedly replaced. I asked can you make sure the computer is fixed before I pick it up. Finally, when I went to go pick up my computer. The guy make seem like I did something wrong to the computer that's why motherboard had to be replaced. WHEN IT HAD ONLY THREE DAYS. I don't feel comfortable with the work that was done my computer. Was the motherboard actually replace with a new one? Was the work done correctly? Will I need to bring it back again? Will it stop working after the warranty then I out of luck? I don't know. I was panicked. I teach online and on Sunday night, as I was prepping, my screen suddenly went black with no warning. I turned it on and off and still sat staring at a black unresponsive screen. But when I asked them what's wrong with my phone, they couldn't ask it, they just said "I don't know what happened to your phone, but we turned it on". The lifespan of the battery of my 2017 Macbook Pro needed to be replaced, due to the heavy use of the Adobe Cloud System programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator. Due to Covid, the Genius Bar at Apple was closed, therefore Apple suggested Computerland of Berkeley. The staff were nice and helpful. The charge of the battery replacement with service was $330. After three days, I got the laptop back and the staff went the extra mile by replacing the keyboard and speakers. That was pretty nice of them. Never having gone to any electronics repair shop (ever) I'd naturally attempted to fix it my self; I'd done my own research; brought the computer to the engineers at my job (for them to check), AND consulted w/ Apple Tech support. Ultimately, they all said I would have to take it to the repair store where they would open up the computer. Let me start off by saying the ENTIRE staff at ComputerLand were so professional and congenial that I'd brought in my other laptop for them to fix too (keyboard issue). checked on my warranty, followed up with any developments fixed my laptops issues, gave a genuine smile every time I walked in . COVID times are tough, and so giving them a couple stars for trying to help people in these times ... but working with them was a terrible process. Also, Apple deserves a lot of my frustration. They don't have any appointments for repair work on their own system, so I had to wait a week to get an appointment with Computerland. When I signed up for the appointment, Computerland got the serial number of the computer and the problem that I was having: One of my keys stopped working reliably. Unfortunately this is an alarmingly common problem for Mac books in the last 4 years. Instead of using this information to order parts in advance, Computerland waited until I got there and then acted like it was an unknown computer and an unknown problem. They took my (work) computer and said that it would be 7-10 business days to fix it. That massive timeframe was because they needed to order parts and then it was 3-4 hours of work, which they indicated was hard to schedule. They track everything with paper forms, in triplicate like it's the 90's. They called me up a week later with the computer repaired. I picked it up towards the end of the day and when I got home the trackpad was making a large clicking noise. I brought it back and they said it might be another 7-10 business days to get a new part and install. It turns out they just didn't install everything correctly in the first place. Since it is going to take forever, save yourself the trouble and send your laptop into Apple directly for repair. read more

The last time an apple care rep sent me to two repair stores that were NOT authorized by Apple. so not only was my computer not repaired, I had to pay and then pay again to get what I wanted done. Now, I have computerland. Parking is difficult in the area, but that's not their fault. The technicians figured out what was wrong right away, provided an estimate for fixing the computer along with what is offered in apple care and voila - within a day the computer was fixed and a new touchboard installed. There were a few glitches but these professionals fixed them quickly and without complaint. Nothing was too much for these pros.
