These guys were great! After a bit of chatting via Yelp quote thread, I decided to bring my 2-in-1 in for a diagnostic assessments. My 2-in-1 kept booting up to a blackscreen and I thought it's motherboard was starting to go bad. During that time the technician told me the good news that my machine was still good and the stuck in a power saver mode cycle and basically needed a hard reboot...which he showed me how to do. All along the way he was patient, and not condescending. He was able to solve my problem within the complimentary assessment. I was so grateful since I didn't back up my data and saved me time and heartaches!!! This is the best computer shop ever. These guys know their stuff. They can build systems, fix your stuff, get you new equipment. I have been a customer for over twelve years they have always been able to answer any question that I had. They have build around 10 or more computers for our office network. We run a technical business they have always been able to get us the "right stuff" for our business. They also have a remote malware protection service that keeps the bad guys away from our hard drives. Their are not happy until their customer's are happy. Im always hesitant when bringing my precious computer to places I've never been before but these guys took care of my computer no problem. I went in to get a battery replacement and there were no issues. A couple of hours and I had my computer back and squeaky clean. Ok, fair enough and anyone can do that but where these guys really shine is their honesty. When I went in to pick up my computer I had a couple of questions regarding upgrading my computer or even a replacement. They basically said that my computer was well taken care of and although it was older (about 1000 years old in computer years) it was still in really good condition and there was no need to spend any more money on it. They also said as far as buying a new one that for what I was doing, it would be more cost-effective to wait another year or 2 to buy anything new. It's refreshing to hear this from people instead of people always trying to upsell things to people when they don't really need to buy anything new or upgrade. This says a lot about this company. Additionally, the input I got from ComputersUSA was excellent as they helped me put together a strategy and budget based on what I was needing to do. They basically said that when my skillset increases for what I'm trying to do, then it would be okay to buy something new but that there was no need yet. Pretty cool dudes to say that. Its good to know that there are still some honest people around. I will definitely come back. read more

The good news is that my computer was repaired and works fine now. However, the successful repair was done by a reputable vendor in Walnut Creek--and not by ComputersUSA! Initially, I brought my computer to ComputersUSA! to assess its slow operation. After ComputersUSA! diagnosed my computer as being "inoperational" and "unable/not cost-effective" to be repaired--I learned on the day that I picked-up the diagnosed computer that ComputersUSA! broke the hinge on the computer...and they didn't have the decency to admit this to me. Then they have the audacity to charge me the full $129.99 cost for a diagnostic assessment. Interestingly enough, though, ComputersUSA! was willing to sell me a comparable "reconditioned" computer for about $400--which is DOUBLE what the Walnut Creek vendor charged me to repair the computer that was damaged by ComputersUSA! In summary--caveat emptor ("buyer beware")--when selecting vendors who advertise having the expertise to repair computers. I highly recommend checking with objective evaluators (like Consumers Checkbook) before making a decision to bring a computer to a vendor. Clearly, ComputersUSA! missed the mark by a gigamile here. I did award ComputersUSA! two stars since they did return phone calls and were courteous. Unfortunately, ComputersUSA! simply lacks the proficiency and depth of experience to get the job done. read more

After the squad rescued my data from my trashed laptop for a very reasonable fee (covered both the work and the large-Gb stick drive needed), I knew I wanted them to get the commission from ordering my next laptop. They worked with me to find the machine matching the specs I was looking for, and the order came in less than 2 weeks - during December, while the supply chain was still recovering. They input my data and I was able to start work on it without breaking stride. Best of all, they treat older women customers with respect - not always guaranteed in the electronics/computer industry! I've been using these folks for years. Usually Chris is who I work with, but all of them are top-notch and fair. They also are honest in their dealings and give recommendations that don't always mean a profit for them - but are the right recommendations for my needs. I've taken my personal computers to them, business computers, student laptops for our school, had them build a desktop computer for us, install software, clean up my messes and more. They also have just helped me on the fly with questions, walking me through difficulties, etc. without charging me a dime. They've done remote logins to fix things for me either inexpensively or without charging me. I wish they still had a presence closer to where I live (they used to have a shop in Brentwood), but they have done pick-ups for me on occasion, house-calls as well. If they can't do a pick-up when I need it (usually I'm in a hurry), it's worth the drive to Clayton to know my computer is in good hands. I highly recommend them. read more

This is more of a pre review. I decided to bring my computer into this store after having taken it to Geek Squad and gotten an estimate for repair. I hate driving all the way to Pleasant Hill and I would prefer to give business to somebody more local. I just dropped a laptop off for repair at this store. The gentleman I talked to was very courteous and polite and seemed knowledgeable. The cost of the diagnostic wasn't cheap but also wasn't really outrageous. I do have to point out that Geek Squad did the diagnostic for free, but I think that was an anomaly and not the normal routine. As far as initial contact and quality goes I would give this place high marks. I will post another review after after my next contact with them, when I find out what they determine is wrong with my laptop and what the estimate is for repair. read more

The owner of the place (Will) said he didn't care about his Yelp reviews so he wont mind this one at all. I honestly wish I could give negative stars. I originally went in for a simple keyboard repair on a Toshiba C5 because it was too difficult to do myself being that a metal panel was holding everything down with rivets. After a week or so, they said they couldn't do it. After getting it back, I did not immediately turn it on (my mistake). I picked it up literally 2 hours before a flight so I was rushing. When I got back from my trip and turned it on, it made a terrible cranking noise and finally turned on after 20-30 minutes. I logged on and seconds later the screen goes black but the lights are still on and flashing. After trying with it for over an hour, I gave up and called CUSA and told them something was wrong with it. They told me to bring it back in. Finally after 3 weeks they said something was wrong with the motherboard. To me it was an obvious reason why: THEY MESSED SOMETHING UP REALLY BAD ALONG THE WAY! They then send me some bogus invoice saying I had more screws missing from the back because "obviously tried to go back in and do something." If I don't know how to fix a simple keyboard why would I mess with the rest of the thing?? That's why I brought it to "professionals". To add to that they said it was working fine for half an hour before it malfunctioned and showed me some logs of it updating and doing whatever. I totally agree with that. However it could have very well been doing all of that when the monitor was off and the lights were on. After going in again, Will offers to give me a replacement computer. He said he'd try to get a refurbished i3 like the one I had or similar. Great! Or so I thought. I called in after a week to see what the progress was on finding one and someone in the shop said Will would be on vacation for the week and they knew nothing of it. So I waited some more. I called in again to check on the progress and what do you know Will is back from vacation. He said it had been ready for a week or so and Ryan was supposed to call. (Go figure, the guy with bad customer service and a bad attitude didn't call) I go in today to get the thing....its a Dell from 2006.........2006!!!! 11 Years ago. The best they can offer is a $100 laptop from over a decade ago. Seriously????? This thing is a dinosaur. I wasn't even going to write this review until they gave me this stone age computer. Seriously don't waste your time here. They cant do simple repairs, they don't call back to let you know progress, they'll break your laptop, blame you for doing it, and then try to replace it with something from back when George Bush was in office. This has almost been a 2 month process and I am just glad its over. read more
