I am a lifelong co-op fan, everything from stores like REI (who should accept their workers ' union, btw) to supermarkets like this one. But this co-op is the biggest, most beautiful one I've ever had the pleasure of shopping at. Wow!!! First of all, easy-to-read signage and easy-to- find sections, including the bulk section (for things like nuts and grains) and the salad bar. A broad selection of healthy food, fresh produce, and locally-roasted coffee is crucial for me, and they nail all that. But they also have excellent sandwiches made to order at the deli counter, so if you go in hungry, I guarantee you'll need to get something. You don't have to be a member to fall in love with this store, but if you become one, you get to help decide how the place is run. People-power FTW! What could make this better, you ask? Well, they also have cold brew & kombucha on tap for the millennials, cafe seating in the front, and oh by the way, regular community events in their parking lot. The hot foods were very limited in choice. Worse, though was to see a utensil fully in the pan (other users' hands now in the food). Plus what looked like roasted green beans turned out to have a very sweet taste - signage needed to be very clear that this was not what it looked like. The roasted whole small potatoes were good except they had some spicy/hot/cayenne on them. Those of us who can't handle "heat" in our food need a better warning (maybe 1-2-3 red pepper stickers that can't be missed?) Senior discount gone too. Disappointing. read more

Went to the Concord Cooperative market for the first time today. I do not live in the area but I have heard good things so I decided to check it out! The Market is located right in downtown Concord on Main St. It does have its own parking lot which is a plus! There are also tables out front for summer time . My first observation is The Market is very neat , clean and well organized. The produce area is a bit small but well stocked. There is a large section of dry bulk goods( one of the largest I've seen). The cheese area is also very large with a great selection. In the back of the store they have a good sized area of prepared foods and a sandwich/ deli counter. So stop by for lunch if you like. If you are a vegetarian they have the largest selection of vegetarian/vegan foods(frozen/fresh) in the area! The prices are on the higher side which is very normal for a market like this but I'm a firm believer you get what you pay for! Reasonably friendly and convenient. It's located in downtown Concord across the street from the Red River Theatre. It's got a good selection of bulk items, as every coop should. Although the cheese selection isn't very extensive, on the day that I was there they had local milk, various live yogurts and even a container of quark from Brookford Farm. The prices are nothing to write home about, but if the profit ends up in the pocket of local farmers, I don't mind paying a bit more. read more

The bulk food section is good with mostly reasonable prices. The produce section is rather limited. The other sections for the most part are just so-so and overpriced with limited selections... Intermittently over many years, with long gaps in between, each time I entered the store I immediately wanted to turn right around and leave - and usually did except for a couple times when I hurriedly bought one item and left ASAP. Each time I'd hoped that after a long absence the energy or atmosphere of the place would have improved - but no. I'd previously belonged to a food co-op that was tiny but wonderful regarding prices, selections, quality of foods, and an atmosphere that truly felt wholesome and genuinely friendly. I've never liked the feeling of this co-op at all. To me it was always depressing and almost creepy. Eventually I finally shopped there regularly for about 4 months with a free membership and a generous produce discount while I was in a temporary financial crisis, but although grateful for the benefits, it still never felt "right" in that store. Then one day as I was checking out, suddenly an obnoxious, smirking manager or assistant appeared to rudely inform me that my slave muzzle ("face mask") was not suitable and that I would not be served the next time if I didn't comply with the cabal's rules for "proper" slave muzzles. So I went home with my final purchases and shred my membership card that day and have never returned. No amount of discounts, or even a free membership, is worth the indignity of being treated like a slave. So I voluntarily tightened my belt and went without a lot of food items. Months later, when my financial crisis ended and after the Concord city slave muzzle mandate had expired, I called the co-op once to inquire if their policy had changed, and was told that the slave muzzle policy was still in place and probably would remain in place for some time. Shame on them for presuming the role of babysitter to adults who have the sovereign right to decide what is best for their own health without infringing on other people's rights to breathe and speak unencumbered by slave muzzles and other oppressive policies. I highly doubt that they treated their employees any better as some of them looked very depressed as would any freedom loving human in such an oppressive environment. Oppression is not healthy. Slave muzzles are not healthy. It's well over a year later and I still do not shop there. read more

I've been lucky enough to have tried Café Indigo products via Whole Foods over the past couple of years. When we were in New England I remembered that they were based out of Concord, NH, so I thought it would be rad to stop by their shop. However, I quickly realized that they no longer have a storefront. BUT, they pointed customers toward the Concord Co-op to pick up their delicious treats. Not to mention, everyone is welcome at the Co-op. You do not need to be a member to shop. As we made our way from Massachusetts to New Hampshire we had perfect timing for a lunchtime stop at the Co-Op, especially since I knew they'd have grab-and-go options. From locally made to your standard vegan-friendly ice cream, and an abundance of Café Indigo sweets, they had it covered. In addition to the sweets there was a hot bar that offered a few vegan options. Lastly, the grab and go cooler had several options to choose from. Even better? The crew didn't bat an eye when I asked if they could heat it up for me. If you like grocery stores like Whole Foods you will love the Concord Co-Op. They carry mainstream items but source the majority of their foods/products locally, which is awesome! read more

It was a day I really needed some comfort food! I knew just where to go! The Concord Food Coop went over the top in meeting that need that today. I knew I could rely on them even though it was a random day. My compliments to the chef! The chicken dumplings was a meal in itself and served multiple meals. Cream of Mushroom soup and the old staple clam chowder along with multiple other varieties of homemade soups available out their efforts over the top.! Another comfort that day was another old stable bean casserole. And a simple grill cheese sandwich suddenly became a luxury with the thick bread and cheese grilled with combinations butter AND garliic crispy to a T. It went on and on and made my day. I've tried to be supportive and I'm still a member of the Coop, but I'm tired of their grossly inflated prices for so many items. The store is a great concept and I'll probably continue to shop there, but only because I don't have anything like Whole Foods nearby. $20 for a pound of mushrooms that I can buy at another local store for $10. Berries that were $4.99 for a larger container in other stores cost $8.99 at the Coop. Cauliflower crust pizza was around $10.99 when nearby stores were selling for $6.99. The list goes on, especially for meat and fresh produce. Until recently they had an outdated and clunky website that made online ordering unnecessarily complicated. It seems they've recently updated their site, but it's still very amateurish and now they're using a 3rd party website to process their online orders, so you have to pay a $5 fee unless you purchase over $100 in goods. I wish they'd update their management, then maybe the store would be priced more realistically and they'd get a decent website with online ordering. read more

I am so done with this place. I'm a co-op member owner in a MA co-op and love to shop co-op while on the road. This was our "go to" place on the way to ME and back for lunch, fruit, drinks, dessert and always something new in supplements. But no more. Now they are corporate co-op. The price increases since the renovation did not dissuade us at first, but to disallow a trip to a store across the street before going to the co-op is wrong policy. I encourage the member owners to look at this more closely. Are you checking for member cards in the parking lots? You are saying do not spend your money here if you intend to support our neighbors. read more

Do not shop here. They're over priced and a lot of their food is expired already or has about 3 days left. I bought corn and bananas there and one of the cobs was molding under the peel. The bananas were soft and brown the day after I brought them home. It's nice that it's a little local shop that sells local grown but not worth the hassle. read more

I hadn't had much interest in checking this place out until watching Food, Inc. I've grown up working in natural foods and have an affinity for such markets, but in going to school again one doesn't often have the ability to spend money on such a lifestyle. And, then I watched the afore mentioned film. This is an interesting place, smaller than the Hunger Mountain Coop in Montpelier, VT, but with more space to walk through. Also, as I went through the aisles i would hit pockets of different smells that never seemed to mix with the rest of the store (No, I wasn't just in the spice section and standing next to the big jar of curry). Often when I walk into such a store you instantly smell the odor inherent to natural foodstores. It's a hearty, earthy smell that didn't really seem to form in this establishment. I'm not sure if it is because it is such a new building, but it just didn't seem to have that same "grit", if you will. I was immensely happy at the range of local meat products that they carry. Though I have entertained vegetarianism, there are just those times when I crave steak, making garlic cheddar chicken, or a really good bolognese. I salute those who have the strength :) Their craft beer selection for such a small store is impressive. I'm a particular fan of Dogfish Head and they had a small variety. I have been a member here for years and really go anymore. As others have said the prices are down right gouging. I am willing to pay more for certain things but most things are about double what you pay anywhere else. I agree with the customer service being extremely poor and unfriendly. The hot bar always has a kerosene like taste to the food. You need to check expiration dates as a lot of the produce is right in when you get it home in the middle such as mango. I bought some Effies crackers that had expired a month before. They were also about two dollars more than anywhere else. I just moved from MA so I am pretty spoiled by having many Trader Joes and Whole Foods close by. Yes specialty food stores are expensive. The Concord Co-op is no exception but is not ranging higher than the norm. If you buy some specialty items in a specialty store it can be cheaper because it is within the average monthly supply. They have some local foods which is nice. Their pre-made lunches are a little too pricey but their hot bar and salad bar are very reasonably priced. They have goodies from Cafe Indigo everyday! Near the front of the store they have beauty products, supplements and protein shakes. These items are expensive but they are expensive no matter where you buy them (even online). As someone that cooks very often, I benefit highly from their many "by the pound bins." This helps whether I want to stock up or only get a little to save money. Overall it's a very friendly atmosphere, staff is always polite and friendly. Most of all it's fun to collect their green stamps. read more

I'm really happy to have discovered the Concord Co-op. I live in Manchester, but make the drive up to the Co-op once per week because it is worth the drive and the toll on 93. It's located right in downtown Concord and is easy to get to and has it's own parking lot, thank goodness, so you don't have to search and pay for parking. To my mind, the Co-op is most significantly lacking in meat products. There is no meat counter, and only a small refrigerator section for packaged meats. Despite this, I would still recommend this little grocery as a great place to grocery shop. Though small, the store packs as much local and organic variety onto its shelves as possible while maintaining a clean and organized environment. There is an appreciable variety of produce, dairy, beauty, and bakery items. The staff is friendly and efficient, particularly the bakery staff who are funny as well as helpful. I really enjoy collecting their "Green Stamps" as a part of their rewards program. read more

This is a truly great health food store. It was pretty expensive but with the space they have, they were able put up a thoughtful selection of products. The bulk section is the biggest I've seen in New Hampshire. They have some awesome spicy pepitas. Lots of snacks, granola, grains, and legumes. They also have a lunch buffet and a little cafe attached. Wasn't able to partake, but it looked delicious! Will hit this spot every time I go to Concord. :) read more

This was horrible. Not the food or the setup but a person working there ... Medium build, dark hair, works the salad bar. Well anyways someone dropped tongs and put them back into the saladbar. The tongs that were dropped were put back into the salad bar the cucumber spot to be exact. The place was crowded and it was my first time there...Long story short I went to pick up a green pepper with another pair that had not been dropped and put back... Then the salad woman comes running out says to me NO NO NO NO. No adult words no asking what happened she was just really rude and took the tongs from me.... She did not ask or care what was going on. The dirty tongs are there still as I left without wanting any further interaction with this rude woman. read more
