Being a chicken salad fan I had to go for the tarragon that was mentioned in every write up for this place. It was good! Lots of chicken, very tasty. The mozzarella panini was delicious! I have been buying lunch, desserts, and occasionally breakfast, from In A Pinch, starting in the late 90's. It has had it's up and downs like any business, but absolutely nothing that would be cause to stop going there. Until today. After leaving a dr's appt, I decided to treat myself and also surprise some friends, with some salads from the ready to go section, and of course lemon bars. I also wanted to pick up some spinach feta croissants for the next few mornings. I didn't see any in the case so I waited to be greeted to ask if any available. I was the only customer waiting and the female at the counter wasn't on the phone taking an order. Regardless, she wouldn't acknowledge my arrival. Even so, I still politely waited. When she finally looked at me, without any greeting, I asked if they had any of the croissants out back, as I would take them unbaked or frozen. The female staff replied, "there's 3 there", and pointed to a tray off to the side, of uncovered products. Not sure that was where she was pointing, I said, "you mean those items sitting out, uncovered?" Her unnecessary, snarky response, "Yeah just like every other restaurant." I said, "Really? Well that's not true." I did not expect her to continue, and I had planned to finish my order and get the heck away from her poor customer service, crap attitude. But, she choose to add, "You don't like it go somewhere else." WOW. She then turned her attention to a guy that walked in and that she seemed acquainted with. Her demeanor with him was 100% different from the unfriendly attitude I received, even before opening my mouth to speak. I continued to wait quite awhile once he left. I was hoping to see a manger. She had no idea why I waiting. She didn't bother to ask. I could have been waiting to place the $70.00 order I had intended to get when I first walked in. She continued to ignore me and even stuck her head in the back room where I have seen the manager come from on previous visits. I figured she was telling them about me. If she did, they didn't care enough to step out to speak with me. I finally walked out. Getting in my car, I called the cafe, and of course she answered. I said, "since you kept ignoring me, I thought I would come out and call instead. I would like to speak to the manager." She hung up on me. So I took my cash elsewhere. I paid close to 90.00 for 3 meals and desserts, more than I was planning, but it was so worth it to not have to deal with a crap attitude while paying hard earned $$$$. Instead, I was treated like a customer should be, with a happy hello and a smiling face of someone who knows what positive customer service is. Plus my friends enjoyed the surprise and loved the food. Smacking myself now for wasting my money all those years, for it to end on this note. Grabbed a tuna melt here and it was good - nothing spectacular and service can be hit or miss - the girl at the counter somedays is less than pleasant. For many years here in Concord, I would stop at In A Pinch for their Raspberry Cream Cheese pastry. Always a great treat. We read on another site that they now have asian dumplings so we thought we would give them a try. Holy cow are they good. Perfect size dumplings (one bite or possibly two) with great texture. Wow love this place . Was not impressed by the outside and almost did not go in, which would have been a mistake. The place was so cute inside. Had soup and 1/2 sandwich. The crab mushroom soup special was really good. The 1/2 sandwich was huge I got the hummus vegetarian it was on a really crusty roll. The hummus was a little bland but all and all the sandwich was great. We also go the 1/2 sandwich and salad. Tuna salad was very good and salad was also very fresh . In a pinch as a variety of coffee flavors on a coffee bar, dessert, case full of tempting sweets, as well as muffins, racks of specialty potato chips, and tempting daily specials. I often pick up items like their fabulous chicken salad served on a piece of lettuce...a piece of French bread is added at the register... or their sesame noodles, from the cold case, which also features mixed fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs and large containers of soup to go. Paninis are great, as are any of the Asian specialties, when featured. I personally think they make the best pad Thai in Concord! Note that there is no handicap entrance and very tight parking at times, but the food is worth the effort, fresh, attractive, and generally healthy. read more

They also sell frozen chinese dumplings now that you can take home and steam, which is weird for a cafe, but it's actually they're pretty good. The dumpling sauce is absolutely delicious. I've stopped by many times to get orders to go. They have a great selection of vegan foods in their freezer and refrigerator which is the draw for me. I've ordered sandwiches a few times, but unfortunately when I get them home and find out they're made incorrectly, it's frustrating. I live too far to go back, and when people have food allergies, they have to be trashed. Probably won't go back just for this reason. Nice people, but just can't risk it. $14 for a sandwich to end up in the garbage, isn't a gamble I want to take these days. read more

Order was fast and tasty, and for 3 people reasonably priced. I had the pork dumplings and they were divine, and the crab and mushroom bisque was fresh and flavorful. My sister got her standard, The Gobbler, and it was tasty and filling. Mum got a traditional grilled cheese and tomato cheese soup, which she seemed to enjoy quite a bit. The place was clean and relaxed, with nice bathrooms and tables; and the service from knowledgeable staff who were friendly and warm. We were not disappointed; we got 2 large sandwiches on their whole grain baguettes (a Tarragon chicken salad and a pork bahn mi), enough curried turkey and rice soup for 4, Aa small bean salad, and lemon and raspberry bars for dessert. Small, simple, unassuming cafe. Counter person was welcoming and friendly- and the quiche - wow, perfect ratio of spinach, mushroom and Swiss. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the lemon bar and raspberry bar. I prefer the raspberry and the wife prefers the lemon, so no fighting. Lots of bakery treats in the case too. They were prepping a big catering order while we were there and my husband was salivating over the subs they were making in the back. I grew up in Concord, and In A Pinch is always on my "must visit" list when I go home. I have never been disappointed! I'm a bit of a creature of habit (ham sandwiches on French bread!), but everything that I've tried has been good. The seven layer bars are to DIE for! I don't think the prices are bad at all, especially since the food is good quality. If you've ever tried to visit at noon, you know you can barely get in the door. That many people can't be wrong! I have had dozens of different panini "capreses" all over the country...their Vegetarian Mozza Melt was the BEST one I ever had!!!! The favors, the freshness, the bread, everything was perfect. Great sandwiches, soup, & salads! They must make their bread - it's great, & I've eaten just about everywhere in Concord, & nobody else has the same stuff. They have great baked treats too. The raspberry & lemon bars are special. So is the brownie. Their panini press makes great hot sandwiches. The salads are great, but if you're eating there, or getting takeout but have time to spare, definitely have one made rather than getting one from the case. The ones in the case are fine - they're always fresh & I get them often. But croutons or almonds for example get a little soft. The sesame noodle salad is perfect from the case though. What else: good selection of drinks; good coffee & a great homemade iced tea. Pleasant cafe decor & setting. Convenient location & parking. I wish they were open on the weekend though! read more
