Everyone is helpful, tries to help me pick the right material for the job, and even give me free range to look around in the wood sheds to see if they have something I can use. They have marine ply, and everything I am looking for when I need lumber. I even found them to be generous - I have so much spray paint from when they were trying to move the stock. I don't understand the English language point, I have never had an issue with the staff in the yard or in the store. Great store, I'd recommend them.

Driving by the front door made me think it was just a nice little office, but if you drive around the back it is full of everything you need. Compared to what most people probably come here for, my need was pretty small: three pieces of plywood each ranging from 4 to 6'. I dragged in an existing piece so I could explain what I was trying to do, and Bryan (almost positive that was his name) took me out back to suggest a few things. Because my toolbox at home is limited to a few screwdrivers, hammer and small hand saw he cut the three boards for me and they were the perfect sizes. I'm fascinated by places that are full of things I don't know anything about, so while he did the cutting I checked out all of the various types/sizes of wood and enjoyed how nice the place smelled. Scott and team not only know this business they are committed to serving. I've shared earlier stories and here is another. This past weekend I brought in a pair of garden shears I thought I'd lost and it turned out I left them in the garden all fall and winter. They were rusted beyond recognition and I was so embarrassed to bring them to Scott to see what was possible. Scott smiled as I showed him my buried treasure and asked if I had a few minutes to wait. With that he disappeared into his workshop with the rusted shears. Not even 10 minutes later Scott reappears with an even bigger smile. The shears are good as new and we both wish we had a before picture ( see the after picture below). So there we have it friends. Another memorable moment in my Vanderhoof Hardware journey. Went to O'Connor today and was immediately assisted by a pleasant young man with a clipboard. He found the grill in store (same price as the other stores) and rang up the order saying O'Connor would deliver it in a few days, no charge. Amazing! It was like the service we used to get in America before the 2020 scamdemic changed everything. Definitely shop here if you remember what good service was like years ago!

But O'Connor's did. I have an affinity for small hardware stores. But could one call O'Connor "small" at all? I was blown away by the façade when I first laid eyes on it, a massive store with an outdoor section and equally as big parking lot. My only gripe is with whoever created the in/out sections of the parking lot, why are there no straight lines to the areas you have to get to and all of these random curbs? Once inside you're basically inside a Home Depot without the tall ceilings. This is definitely the largest hardware store north of Boston that doesn't start with a H or L. As my eyes began to wander in amazement, I looked through some of the aisles of items I was not in there looking to find. Kitschy signs, funny decals, all of those items you'll ONLY find at one of these throwback types of stores are what bring me back to going to stores exactly like this with my grandfather back in the 80's. I finally made it to the back of the store, with the help of one of the very kind teenagers who guided me in the right direction, in fact he took me to exactly where I needed to be. Quick checkout with very good help at the front, they weren't "understaffed" in any way even as businesses struggle. I don't have the historical nature to compare this to the "good ol days" of O'Connor's from 10-20 years ago like another reviewer did. If that's the case, do you just want everything to be a Lowe's? I sure as hell don't. Things are out of stock because the world has been thrown a curveball the last two years. I would never blame a mega corporation or a small town hardware store for items being out of stock. I'll return here as often as I can, great experience all around.

I went into the store and showed the cashier which potting soil I wanted on the Ace app. He couldn't look it up on his computer. He told me I had to go outside and find the placard number. Seriously- you can't look up Miracle Grow Potting Soil in your computer? So I went outside. Got in my car. And drove to Home Depot. (Where I just told the cashier what I wanted. They looked it up. I called Wayland Home and design as my local Ace. They didn't hesitate in saying to bring it in. I dropped by and received the best service! They didn't make me feel stupid for not being able to put the thing together and they were of great assistance. They had it ready to roll in about 10 minutes and even tested it to ensure that it was properly working. It's rare to see this type of excellence in customer service these days. I find the quality of the products they sell to be equal to or better than what you find at HD or Lowes. Great to hear they service equipment.
