I want to single out some staff members who went over and beyond to help me (sorry that I know only first names). My main physical therapist, Kristen, was terrific. She was kind and patient with me, and encouraged me (gently) to push myself. Thanks, Kristen. Nurse Carole was among the hardest working staff members, and she was extremely helpful to me and my roommate. How she kept her cheerful demeanor for her entire shifts was a mystery. The facility's physician, Dr Elkrem, was careful and very pleasant every time we interacted. Several members of the facility's admin staff stood out for helping me and making me feel that my needs would be taken into account: the dietician, Jenny, head of PT, Kelly, and head of admissions, Jenny. Being in rehab is no fun, but these people made the challenging situation more than tolerable. And they got me ready to go home.

Although she is…read morerelatively independent, the staff know her habits, check on her regularly, and are always happy to assist with any little request. The food is excellent, the common spaces are lovely (though we do wish they would leave the blinds open in the common room so that people could enjoy the outside light and gardens as well as the TV). They have recently updated the paint, furnishings and carpeting in the common areas so they are bright and fresh - I hope they do the same for the hallways in the residents' areas, as they are currently an 80s-ish gold tone which is not so bright and cheery as the common areas. Like many assisted living places, the apartments are small and closet space is minimal, and unfortunately, there is no basement storage available. But the rooms are kept clean (housekeeping is excellent). We paid extra to paint the apartment a brighter neutral color, with more light reflectivity, to brighten the room, and we put off-white area rugs over the brown carpet to lighten the right, which is especially important to vision-impaired seniors. Requests for maintenance (ie, fix blinds) can be slow, but the entire staff is cheery and kind. We have been happy at Robbins Brook and would recommend it to others who need assistance with daily living.

I was called in to a " Care Meeting" for my partner who had been there just a week after a brief…read morehospitalization. I was told it was an important meeting to discuss his medical care plan and future needs. The head nurse could barely speak English, and the nursing staff was equally linguistically impaired, the main staff member was looking for him to increase his insurance, the OT person offered nothing about his progress and spoke for the PT person who was not even there plus his social worker was absent. The PA was great and was reporting improvement and working hard to reduce his pain but this overall care here seems quite poor, ill managed and disorganized. They hardly read his chart upon arrival and missed important care markers like his cancer care regime. I basically learned little about his progress or what a care plan would look like for him, except more tine on his back in bed. Little was discussed about customizing care for him just his length of stay. One size fits all! They are only trying to manage his most pressing symptoms and that success seems minimal. I thought he went there to get stronger so he could come hone in better shape. This is not what's happening.. I was completely disappointed in the care or lack of care he is getting. I was made aware of their low ratings and now I understand why and I do have a lot of experience in caregiving and medical training.

Be very cautious about this company. Promised skilled caregivers, but the people who came knew…read morenothing about even the basics of elder care: wheelchairs, walkers, safe lifting, even how to operate kitchen appliances. At $26.50 per hour, you would expect better trained employees, and you would expect to have the same caregiver scheduled to your loved one, not a different "temp" every day. It seems this is a kind of chain of caregivers, so quality may vary from one "franchise" (if that's what these are) to another. Nevertheless, don't be wooed by the fancy brochures and the slick promises. Go local, find an agency that has been around for awhile, at least 10+ years. The "franchise" we went with has not been, and it showed in the very poor quality service, as well as the hard sell approach. Not at all recommended.

Joyce, the manager we dealt with, went out of her way, not just handling the scheduling but also making visits without charge and finding ways to make my mother feel better and take better care of her. She was extremely available on the phone and able to make last-minute changes as needed.
