She was a young nurse and this must have been her first time. She took a syringe with a needle on the end and stuck it inside my ear until she stabbed my eardrum and blood started dripping out of my ear. I had very very sharp pain coming from my eardrum as it was bleeding. This experience made me question if the staff is competent. Anyways I didn't have time to change my insurance and providers so I was stuck coming here since they had the soonest availability. I said to myself I doubt I would ever come back here again My second experience here was for abdominal pain. My PCP is unwilling to find the root cause of my pain all he does is prescribe me medication. So after much frustration with my PCP I decided to return to Walnut Creek Urgent Medical Care and they did decide to order an abdominal ultrasound. There was a finding in my spleen but the doctor in Walnut Creek wanted to remove my spleen, my entire spleen. So instead of finding a cure or some other way to detox my spleen they just wanted to remove it. It's been over year since then and all I did was change my diet, eat clean, and researched herbal remedies. So in my frustration with the Healthcare system I have concluded that they are solely a business. They push Big pharmas petrol meds to us with all these side effects. They do not care about your long term health. They want you sick so you keep coming back. Doctors are good for surgery and that's about it. I'd rather take my chances and ask for advice elsewhere. Usually, I take a lot of these reviews with a grain of salt, but no, the reviews are pretty accurate for Dr. Dinh. He basically said toes can be badly bruised without a fracture. Yes, in the condescending way other reviews have described. I spent maybe 3min talking with him. He sent me to x-ray, and I asked what I do then? He said, the results should be back in about an hour. To go home, and if I have a fracture, to put a band aid on it to stick it to the other toe. So yes, it's true, the other toe serves as a splint, but I went to CVS and bought some medical tape. I looked up on ChatGPT to learn how to tape my broken toe to the good toe. I cannot stress what a waste of time it was to go to this UC. I could have saved myself a co-pay and an uncomfortable drive and just gone to ChatGPT. I don't even remember being asked if it was painful or asked about the 1-10 pain scale or to describe the pain at all. Just asked how it happened. I didn't get any tape or gauze to put between my toes, not even told how to do it beyond the band-aid comment. The AVS only provides RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevate, which, duh) instructions. I had to dig in the appointment notes to find any *mention of "buddy-taping" but no instructions on how to do it. If John Muir UC is seeing all these reviews of patients saying Dr. Dinh is condescending and dismissive, maybe they should reconsider their relationship with him. I don't think Dr. Dinh believed me when I said I thought I fractured my toe (I've fractured both hands, so I know a thing or two about what a fracture feels like). Then his tone changed completely when he saw the x-ray report and gave me a call back. Then he was "so sorry." Hire more Dr. Buckleys. It's the Dr. Buckleys that will make people want to continue seeing a human instead of relying on AI. I certainly won't be going back to this UC in case there's a chance I get Dr. Dinh again. The x-ray tech was was alright. Not personable, but I didn't need him to be. Did his job, and that's fine - that's why 2 stars instead of 1. Getting an x-ray confirmation was the only thing that didn't make this trip a 100% waste of time.

Not narcotics, not anything fun, not anything sellable on the street... just regular-ass blood pressure meds to keep my heart working. I called it in five days in advance of running out. 5 days. When calling it in I was given no push back or any notion that my meds would not be filled. Not a single hint. So after the five days when I'd run out of such meds I went to the pharmacy to pick up my refill. And turns out only one of the refills was sent. They had to give me loaner pills so I don't drop dead. What the hell is even going on with this office? Ever since they became Muir medical group I can't get my medicine refilled ever without some kind of giant hiccup! These aren't narcotics. These are blood pressure pills so I don't croak! This is so insane. The doctors here are very good. I love my doctor! But this office is so screwed up and unorganized, unethical, and doesn't care someone could just die without their meds.... I'm looking for a new dr now after several incidents regarding refilling my blood pressure meds. Enough is enough. Again these doctors rule! But the office has ruined their practice and made it completely terrible. I have family members that go here that have had the same bad experience with trying to get their meds. I have had multiple situations where I need blood pressure meds and they've been so nonchalant and just "they will get refilled when they get refilled" with zero worry about my physical safety. I was extremely out of it and struggling to communicate. The security guard at the front began my interaction with this hospital with rolling her eyes at me as I struggled to get my I.D. out and loudly saying things I was having trouble comprehending. I was obviously disoriented and it seemed to take too long for her to gather that and get me into the hospital. I certainly was not in any state to do anyone any harm, I could barely work my hands or walk steady. I was again met with eye rolls inside, asking my name and date of birth when I just gave it at the door. I gave it again to her and then waited, after a few minutes that felt like forever I began to panic making it worse. I was the only one there and feeling like I was dying, I wondered why isn't anyone taking me seriously? I felt like nobody was treating this like it could even possibly be an emergency and began getting frustrated and asking if I am going to be able to see someone quickly. The receptionist just rolled her eyes and didn't answer, she said they will let you know if it's an emergency. I was really taken aback by the lack of empathy. Then the next person asks my name and date of birth again. I give it they say I am giving it too fast and panicking. I said I have given it to two people, I begin crying, struggling to breathe, and give it again. More eye rolls. There was still absolutely no attempt from any one of the staff to be empathetic or reassuring at this point. I do know about panic attacks and had experienced ones before, but this felt different and like a very real medical emergency. This is three people now who were so rude and mean to me on one of the most vulnerable times of my life, that I am ashamed for them. More waiting, and then a few cursory questions and eye rolls and I get asked my last period a few more times, even though I came in on my period. They took a pee sample and then seemed surprised and asked me, are you on your period? Oh we didn't need to take that sample. It seems they don't just communicate with one another there either. They were very nosey about my roommate, an elderly man, who brought me in. It's stupid, and so disgusting, to insinuate that I would have a partner that old. I needed a ride and he was there at home. The ladies there reminded me of the mean girls from my high school. The last person I saw, the doctor, at least did not roll his eyes at me and was not overtly condescending like the other staff I encountered there. He actually talked to me like a human. He did explain that it was a panic attack. I did mention that everyone there has made me feel stupid for coming in. He said, you still did the right thing by coming in. One of the nurses who had been rude to me was there and agreed with him, her tone suddenly seemed to have changed to much warmer with me. They then took a blood test and I did get good info from that to follow up on. I did have some medical things to look out for. That was the main silver lining of my visit. They gave me meds which brought me down quickly and made me fall asleep. I slept well that day. I am thankful for them, and for the medical care I received, but I do think having some bare minimum empathy should be required if you're going to be working in an emergency department. People are coming in some of the worst days of their lives, and at least not going out of your way to be rude and make fun of patients would really go a long way.

Charge nurse Lily Bay is just awful inside and out!…read more I had a very upsetting experience with the charge nurse, Lily Bay, during my mom's hospital stay. My mom was in a very serious condition and was coughing up blood. I had been paging for a nurse for about an hour because I didn't feel comfortable leaving her alone while she was in distress. Instead of a nurse coming to speak with me, hospital security and police officers entered the room and told me the charge nurse had said I had been asked to leave. No one had spoken to me before that, and I had been waiting to talk with a nurse before leaving. The situation could have been handled with a simple conversation. Instead, having security and police come into my mom's room while she was already in a vulnerable condition caused unnecessary stress and upset both of us. My mom became visibly shaken after seeing the officers. This was not the first time I felt uncomfortable during interactions with this charge nurse. Based on my experiences, I felt I was treated differently than I should have been. I found her communication to be dismissive and sarcastic, and I did not feel that my concerns for my mother's well-being were taken seriously. I have already reported this incident to hospital management because I believe patients and their families deserve to be treated with respect, compassion, and clear communication. I hope the hospital reviews this incident so that other families do not have a similar experience. Based on my repeated experiences, I left feeling that I was treated differently and unfairly.

Unfortunately, one nurse, Megan, completely changed the experience. Megan was passing by and told me I had to wait in the waiting area. I understand that there are policies, but there is a right way and a wrong way to communicate with people. A simple explanation and a little empathy would have gone a long way. I waited 3 hours in the waiting room. My daughter was in pain, on crutches, and crying. She asked to go to the bathroom and couldn't even open the door. Megan, why didn't you help her? Isn't that exactly the kind of basic assistance and compassion a patient should be able to expect from a nurse? My daughter was vulnerable, hurting, and scared. It is absolutely not okay to treat a patient in that condition like she's an inconvenience. Then I had to take an Uber to the hotel to get her medication and come back. I asked security if I could give the medication to her. Megan came outside, asked what medication she was taking, and then said, "I'll order them." Seriously? If you had simply listened to me and explained that from the beginning, I could have avoided making an unnecessary trip back and forth. I also went to the front desk because I wanted to file a complaint and was told they didn't have a phone number for me to call to make a complaint. That is unbelievable. And then Megan told my daughter that her mom could come inside but couldn't be mean to the staff. Megan, we didn't come to the ER for you. We came because my daughter needed medical care. Your attitude, lack of empathy, and the way you spoke to us were completely unnecessary. A nurse is supposed to provide care, comfort, support, and advocacy for patients when they are at their most vulnerable. Unfortunately, Megan was not that at all. My daughter was there because she needed help annot attitude or judgment. Shame on you, Megan. Thankfully, Kimberly showed us what compassionate nursing actually looks like. She listened to my daughter, helped her, and made her feel heard and seen as a patient. I will always appreciate her for that. This isn't about expecting special treatment or asking staff to break rules. It's about basic human decency, empathy, and patient care. You can enforce policies and still be kind. You can set boundaries without making patients or their families feel like a nuisance. My daughter came to the ER because she needed help. She deserved better.

She's been so kind and attentive, and I appreciate her. The entire Post-Surgical Unit was great and worked as a team. Overall, I've had such a great experience at John Muir Health.
