We had an incident where a larger dog wouldn't leave mine (standard size) alone and the owner didn't bother to come get them. If you have good knowledge of canine behavior you might do alright here. Keep your dog away from packs, other dogs' toys, bring no food or treats, and supply your own water to prevent transmission of parasites and germs. My 10-month-old German Shepherd has made a few friends with similar sized and friendly temperament dogs. It's good socialization, but very important to keep a close eye on your dog. Aggressive packs form quickly and do escalate to frequent fights. If your dog is 30 lbs. or less, there is a much more mellow small dog section that is also spacious. There are water fountains for both two and four legged folk, picnic benches, ample poop cleanup stations, a central area that is shaded with lots of communal water bowls. There are also nightlights and hours are 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week. It is a 3.5 acre fenced park with trees, an all grass area and a dirt section. I don't recommend bringing children or small dogs into the big dog park section. Kids can easily get hurt and some big dogs have a high prey drive and don't seem to be able to differentiate a small dog from its prey. If you interact with your dog, walk around with it and are consistently very attentive with it, this might be a good experience. On a health note, ask your vet if they recommend it or any dog parks. If not, there's an excellent professional dog walker named Henry Moraga who picks your dog up from your home does a mile group walk (never at the dog park) and returns your dog within a few hours. He's in the TO area Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He's basically a dog whisperer and all around nice guy. I've used him for two years and am very happy that my dog gets exercise whether or not I walk her myself or get her to the park. Please call him: (805) 890-8394 his rate is reasonable. Great when it's EMPTY and a nice day out - but when it's crowded or hot outside, this is not the place to go. I notice dirty dogs more around the evening time, i'm talking contagious lesions, like white warts on their tongues, or fleas or ticks. Also, the granite gets way too hot for paws sometimes and you can tell its a struggle for the dogs to walk across it. If you bring your dog here, please make sure they have all preventatives... and if your dog is contagious/infested PLEASE DO NOT BRING THEM! read more

I live just down the street from this park and come here 1-2 times per day with my hyper husky mix (that being said, I've only ever used the large dog side, so that's what this review will be referencing). It's a wonderful park. The best parts about it would definitely be 1) the size, 2) the popularity, and 3) the beautiful sunset views! Obviously, this park is more spacious than most. In fact, it's the biggest one I've ever been to, and I split my time between TO and Orange County. It's the biggest and most grassy by far. There are two water stations for the pups, with one situated right by the front entrance and the other a bit farther toward the grass area but still in the dirt. I do wish there were more shady spots for the owners and dogs alike to enjoy; be careful not to come here during the heat of the day, of course, especially since no one will be around then! Which brings me to the second best part about this park... If you come here in the morning (9-11 a.m.) and/or after 4 p.m. on any day, it's guaranteed to be packed, and I consider this a great thing! My dog has lots of playmates and you get to pet even more pups when there are lots of others running around. It's nice because the size of this park can accommodate tons of dogs, so people will bring large groups that they take care of throughout the day, or whole families will come with their dog(s) later in the evening. I like seeing regulars here and have come to learn dogs' names, so it's extra fun for us dog lovers!There are times when my pup gets a bit overwhelmed from the sheer amount of furry friends he has to play with, especially around dusk. But that's another awesome feature of our park... The sunsets here are worth going for alone! I love bringing my dog during that after-work rush when everyone stops by to exercise their pups, because you get to watch the sun set just past all of the beautiful hills in the west. There is very limited interrupted sky when you're standing in this park, so the sunsets are really spectacular, specifically during the autumn hours! The location is just great (being down the street is a plus) despite the nearby freeway noise. Be advised that this park is closed every third Thursday of the month for maintenance! I think they maintain it pretty well (supplying dog bags / emptying trash cans) but the amount of holes that need patching, plus the really strong pee smell in certain spots, need improvement for sure. read more

This is a well kept, spacious dog park with both grass and sand/gravel. They have lots of poop scoops and trash cans so it's very clean and well maintained. It's closed every third Thursday of the month for maintenance. There's two water fountains, but they are only on one side of the very large park. The downside is that there is very little shade so I image it gets very warm in the summer so be careful with your pups! read more

I take my two dogs to this dog park at least once a week. It seems like it's the only large sized dog park in the area in terms of running/play area. I'm able to throw the ball on a chuck-it without hesitation and still have a lot more room. The dog park is split in two sections - one for large dogs (more than 30lbs+) and one for small dogs (less than 30lbs). The dog parks are separated by a chain fence. Both parks have a double door entrance/exit (unleashing area) so that you can enter the unleashing area without having dogs in the dog park run out of the park. Both parks are half dirt/gravel and half grass. To get to the grass, you'll need to walk through the dirt which is a little weird. The dog park is relatively clean with a few mounds of unpicked up poop spotted around. There's a lot of dispensers for poop bags and also shovels with cans of dirt for those who don't use poop bags. There's also a water fountain for both humans and dogs. There's tables spotted around and some are covered to provide shade. The people here are generally friendly. Some even bring buckets for water at various locations. Oh, also, the parking lot is dirt but there's always space. I did want to note that my dog did rip his paw pads on the dirt/gravel when he was eager to get into the dog park so that really sucked - it doesn't make sense why the dog park is half dirt and half grass when it should be all grass. However, I saw a posting at the dog park that if a candidate was elected into city council, they were going to make it all grass but I don't know what's the status of that... read more

The dogs have always been nice to each other during our visits there (no fighting), and their owners are nice too. We have always enjoyed our visits there, and our small dogs love it as they get to run & play with with their dog park buddies. Stopped in to this dog park and wasn't impressed, but wasn't disappointed. I will say, they have a huge amount of land for a dog park! We came at a decent time of day and there were not very many dogs there. Which, was great for us since my dog is still unsure if she likes dog parks or not. However, she did seem to warm up pretty easily at this one. The other dogs that were there seemed really happy! I'm probably not the best judge of them since my dog isn't the biggest fan, but from what I saw, it was a really well maintained great place to bring your dog. read more

I'm 50/50 on this place. There are a bunch of nice folks who supervise their dogs well and everyone has a great time. There's also a decent, yet smaller number of folks who either have aggressive dogs or dogs who just "play very rough" and the owners don't bother to supervise properly. My girl has had a great time with the friendly dogs, but has also has been bitten twice by aggressive, unsupervised dogs (and she didn't "bring it on" for those who might be wondering). I still go sometimes, but I'm very watchful, and I've learned to just step in and supervise other people's unruly dogs if it's too hard to avoid them for some reason. I'm also not as reserved as I used to be about telling idiot dog owners to leave if their dog is mean and they aren't supervising properly. Also, I've been there a few times when some idiot brought a toddler and let them run around on the big dog side, only to watch a pack of dogs knock over and "play with" the kid. Kid ends up getting hurt and it's pretty sad. :( I think a parenting move like this is akin to leaving a dog or child in a hot car on a summer day - it should be punishable by jail time. read more

Amazing dog park overall. I take my dogs there almost every day I have two smaller dogs and the park is sectioned off between large dogs and small dogs. The only complaint I have is that some people will not honor the splitting up the bigger dogs from the smaller ones and I've seen fights occur between a large dog and a small dog and a small dog getting badly injured. People are usually very friendly and get to know one another as regulars at the park. Very well-kept and I appreciate that is a protective piece of landscape in Thousand Oaks. Not my favorite since it's very dusty here with not much shade. The dog park is huge and most of it is gravelly dirt, while out in the distance there is grass. Lots of poop stations, benches, water, all the regular dog park stuff. Parking lot is easy to access and plenty of parking each time I've been there. read more

Been here a bunch, we use the large dog side. Not the largest park I've seen but always a good visit with pups. Always have parking and pretty well maintained. They have a small and large dog area. Love the drinking fountain for the dogs ( someone always gets stuck doing water duty) if one drinks, they all drink lol. The owners when I have been here have always been friendly and attentive. Seems like quite a few regulars. A few kids with gmail and their pet(s). Pooper scoops near bins and plenty of benches and tables to sit in some shade. There are a bunch of tennis balls laying around for them to play with. But I see ppl bring their own toys too. read more

Great community dog park! I have been coming to Thousand Oaks dog park for a few years and it is a playground for your dogs! The park is divided into a big dog and a small dog area. There are double entrances to the park to avoid dogs slipping away. In addition, there are free poop bags, scoops and water fountains for the dogs. I love the area is so big that you can give plenty of space for your dogs to run around and yet the space is open enough to keep an eye on your babies. It is a leash free park and so you should leave the leash at the door. I also find there are often plenty of tennis balls left behind and there is really no need to bring one from home. This is a great dog park that we visited while traveling. We were on the small dog side, but the layout was the same for both. I like that they have half grass and half sandy dirt. Everyone on the small dog side was really nice, and the dogs were pretty polite, too. There were plenty of shady spots, as well as plenty of bags and scoopers for cleaning up after your dog. My only complaint is that there is only one water station (with dog and human drinking fountains and a bowl), but there were a lot of "regulars" who brought their own bowls and were happy to share. Stopped at this dog park during a road trip. Our dog loved how big the park was and how he could run and stretch his legs out. There are water fountains that are dog and person level, which is very nice. I liked that the big dogs and small dogs have their own separate areas and that there are two gated doors that you go through to get to the park (to make sure a dog doesn't run out if you open the gate). There were signs that there had been recent break-ins to cars in the lot, so just be cautious when parking there. We'd definitely frequent the park often if we lived in the area. read more

Pros: It's pretty big on both sides. They have a separation for larger dogs and smaller dogs depending on your small dog's temperament you can let them roam around in the larger dog area. But not vice-versa. There's plenty of dispensers for if you forget to bring your own bags. Most owners are regulars. Cons: Watch where you step because some owner don't bother picking up after their dog(s). The entry area smells like urine so you have to hold your breath each time you come in or exit. Some owners you wonder why they bother bringing their pets to a park, they don't let them play and their yapper is afraid of everything. Overall, if you can make it out to Camarillo on weekend mornings or to Simi Valley for a better view, then I'd opt out for one of those instead. read more

This is our favorite dog park in town! We've been four times now and each time was great! My dog plays very well with a lot of the dogs there and the owners are very nice,especially compared to those at the Westlake dog park. This park is HUGE! There's two parts the grass and story area for small and large dogs, separated by dogs 30 pounds or smaller or larger. Although people still choose to bring their small dogs to the big dog section. There was someone the other day that had 4 small dogs and 1 big dog, which didn't even okay with other big dogs. While your small dogs may do well with big dogs, not all big dogs do well with small dogs. So please keep the dogs separated as the rules state! There's only one water fountain at the entrance of the park. So maybe bring a water bottle and a bowl because this park is huge. Most people watch their dogs here and break up fights and mounting as needed, although lately there has been some issues. Overall I very much enjoy this dog park, but I wish people would watch their dogs better. It would make dog parks so much better for the dogs and owners. read more

Many people don't pick up after their dogs, but that's not the biggest problem. There are dog reactive dogs coming there. My dog during a simple greeting almost got attacked by a much larger dog that looked like a R. Ridgeback. I'm sure it wasn't the first time. Leave it to the City Council of Thousand Oaks to worry more about the water shortage then the comfort of our dogs. Really. A couple acres of grass is not going to raise the bill to the water company that much. Take the water from the medians on the roads. This is a green area for a reason......and should be left that way. I can think of 100's of green areas that don't need grass......, but it is the dog park that does need it. stupid, really stupid. The city removed almost all of the grass from our beloved dog park. And replaced it with crushed granite. And dirt. Their excuse is that it is better for the smell and for cleanup. As a dog owner I know dogpoop, and therefore can tell when poop is being thrown at us. This is a clear example. The sign reads, "Crushed Granite has been shown to reduce odor, blah, blah" and with only a time bit of Internet research, I found a bunch of sites who can refute that. in fact, I'm sure the brochure from the company that sold the city the crushed granite, was all the research the city needed. whatever their excuse, they left us with a dust bowl with small rocks. Our dogs don't wear shoes, so you can imagine how their feet feel. I will be taking my dogs to Simi Valley or to Moorpark. If you choose to stay in Thousand Oaks, you should send your veterinary bills to the city when your dog paws to have the Rock and splinters removed. Write the city a letter. I did. read more

I just moved to this area, and the first thing I do whenever I get to a new place is scope out the dog scene. I have two adorable black lab mixes that like to get out and see the town. Lucky for me, there's a pretty nice dog park within 15 minutes. It has two double-gated entrances so you can still get in even if some slowpoke is trying to train her rowdy dog to sit while she takes off the leash. There are lots of trash cans and poop bags around the perimeter and even some pooper-scooper devices if you don't want to waste a bag. And for you small dog types, there's a separate fenced area for small dogs. This has to be one of the biggest fenced dog parks I've ever seen, and it's mostly grassy. That's saying a lot given how much the park's used. And the people are mostly cool. Sure, you'll get the random weird guy who tells you to go to the far end of the park if you want to play Frisbee with your dog because his dog "might start a war with growling and everything if you play near [his] dog, and you won't get your Frisbee back" but that comes with every dog park. [Whatever, dude...teach your dog to chill out, maybe?] The best part about the park is how much fun my dogs have here. My older dog used to go to a dog park every day - we miss you Alamo Square! - but not so much lately. He LOVES this dog park for the people. There's always a sucker who will scratch his bum and pat his belly for five-plus minutes. My younger dog is just getting used to this whole dog park notion, but there's always a hyper dog who will chase her around in circles for ten minutes. Hear that silence? That's the sound of two exhausted doggies. It's priceless, and I owe it all to the TO Dog Park. read more

First impressions from someone relatively new to dog parks is that this is a very well set up park. I like the fenced-in separated areas for large and small dogs. I like that the drinking area is outside of the gates and there is a cemented drain section for the dogs to stand on instead of dirt while they drink. Available doggie bag dispensers. Double gated entries so that dogs do not accidentally get out. Plenty of land for fido to roam and play. There are a few things that keep me from giving this dog park 5 stars. Starting with the parking which is simple a dirt lot. Wish they would invest in concrete for the parking lot... some dogs sees dirt as their toliet, and nothing ruins a day at the dog park like stepping on a doggie surprise when getting out of your car. This did not happen to us...but I can see this easily happening. To continue with the doggie land mines issue... do expect to see these droppings on the field... I saw plenty of them near the entrance of the large dog area. Not so much at the small dog park. But over all it's no more then at any other dog parks. Just wish owners would be more responsible especially since the bags are available. Another complaint would be the lack of enough of shad... it gets very hot in the Conejo Valley and dogs love shad... The biggest issue we had at the park had to do more with a couple of aggressive (untrained) pitbulls that were barking (jumping) at other dogs coming into the park. On the way in, a lady told us that these pitbulls were being trained at the park and they were too excited. It was apparent that a bunch of owners were leaving because they did not trust these dogs. Another owner told us that his dog was attacked (bitten) by these dogs. I am not going to take away anything from the park because of a couple of owners who cannot control their dogs. I am confident that these owners will get the message from the usual visitors that aggressive dogs are not welcomed at this park. I hope to not see these owners (dogs) again until they are trained. In conclusion, I would visit this park again...maybe early in the morning so that we can have more park and a little less people to deal with. read more

I love brining my dog here to get that energy out. He met some dogs to play with and we meet here almost everyday, I have even made a few friends as well. There are a few things they could fix. One of them is the grass. There is a lot of dirt patches and is uneven. All they really need to do is section it off and let the grass grow. They also need a few umbrellas on the other side of the park. There is only so much shade and it gets way to hot in the summer. As for the people, almost everybody I have met has been really nice. There are a few that seem to always have a chip on their shoulder. When people bring toys they should expect that another dog might get ahold of a toy that they will get it back. They don't need to get upset. It will be ok. But if the toy means that much to you, then don't bring it. Lastly, I feel that puppies should be on the small side. It shouldn't matter how big they are. When this dog park was a mere concept with nothing in the field by the freeway the city was considering it's creation. I was in the city of Thousand Oaks council chamber with several dozen other dog enthusiasts listening to the council discuss the potential of creating this sizable facility. I took my turn to speak in defense of opening the dog park while a small number of equestrian enthusiasts spoke out against our creating this dog park. The councilmen spoke of how they predicted such a Dog Park is likely to be a heavily used facility which has the potential of enhancing the quality of life for residents and canine enthusiasts by reducing the number of dogs in public parks and concentrating them here. Needless to say but for years many of us have enjoyed this place with our pooches. I've been there probably a hundred or maybe a few hundred times since. Of all the visits I only had maybe two occasions where fiercely aggressive dogs were present in the large dog side. One such occasion was this year a few months back. A pair of doberman pinchers were charging and behaving aggressive in the extreme. Their owner was acting careless - and since then I have consulted animal control. I've learned that if this is encountered again they are to be contacted - and they will dispatch an officer immediately. This sort of hostility is NOT to be tolerated and an officer on the spot could fix this situation in a hurry. Owners of dangerous dogs think it is funny to be irresponsible - and there will be price to be paid if they are caught by the proper authority. That said ... 99.5% of the time it is indeed a wonderful experience for our dog(s). As it should be... I see few owners being absent minded about cleaning up after their pets. The regulars are often recognized and cordial conversation is easy to find while our pets run their hearts out and play! So - I give 4 of 5 stars because there is room for improvement here. Absolutely love this dog park, it is never too crowded and is very spacious!! All the people I have met here are soooo nice and so are their critters!! My favorite part is that the dog park doesn't close till 8:30 and it is lit very nicely after the sun goes down. I've been to other dog parks in the area and this one is by far the best!! read more

To the person complaining about stepping in some, its a dog park. Get a grip. The whole point is that it is community-monitored and the community tends it and picks up after the community. I'm not sure why people would complain that this place is too big. There is a good amount of seating and you can sit in the vicinity of where your dog plays. And with the dogs I've had and been around (managed a training/boarding kennel) always check in with their owners on a periodic basis while running around. The dog I bring here when I'm in town loves to run, that is when she finds a dog that she really likes. Otherwise she spends time under the picnic table. She was a little timid as a puppy the first time I came, but has blossomed here being around lots of other friendly dogs. There are drinking fountains for humans and dogs and there are strategically placed garbage cans with shovels and scoopers to pick up poop. My only peeve which has nothing to do with the park is people that don't pick up after their dogs. That being said people's reviews shouldn't be based on actions of other people that can't be controlled. Yes, we've had some issues with dogs that have kind of a bully attitude, but we've also met many nice dogs and owners who are more than happy to fill you in on people and dogs you may not want to be around. As for dog parks being bad, it's owners that are bad, who don't properly train and socialize their dogs and don't pay attention when they are there. Dogs need to be socialized and exercised and if you're observant your dog can have a great time. And back to the size of the park, because of it's size you can get away from a not nice dog and just move to another section of the park read more

place is pretty clean and has your standard watering fountains for the pooches, trash cans, benches and community bags. there is some shade for the brutal, hot days, but I love how there are lights here. the other local parks in Simi and Oak Park do not have any lights, so once the sun is down, you're SOL. This can be hard to deal with , especially during the winter when it gets dark before I get home from work. Luckily this place is open til 8:30 pm. I have came here numerous times after 7 and it's just really convenient. I don't think everyone knows about it because it was kind of dead, but at least my dog got to roam around, worry free. read more
