3 stars I took my dog there hoping he'd be able to find a new doggy friend to play with, but alas, it was too hot and I wasn't bright enough to take note of the almost-10-degree difference in temperature between Pasadena (90°F) and Oak Canyon (97°F). So, there my small dog was, sitting in the small dog enclosure, just waiting for another dog to come in. Which, sadly, never happened... :( Instead, he watched the big dogs over in the big dog area play. I liked a couple things about the park like how breezy it was, how big each of the enclosures are, and how relatively well-kept it is. By relatively well-kept, I mean that I don't smell or see a lot of dog poop while I was there. What I didn't like about the park was how uneven the ground was. Not just in the dog enclosure, but in the dirt road and grassy areas before it. I also don't understand why they placed the parking lot so far from the gates, how steep the dirt road is to the top, and how little shade there is. Definitely some pros and cons to this dog park. I'll likely come back in the fall or spring when the weather gets cooler. read more

I have three big issues with this park: 1. The parking lot is a 10-minute walk away from the dog park itself. There is technically a road to the dog park but the dozens of "no parking" signs make it clear that people aren't supposed to park there. (Of course, some people park there anyway despite the signs.) 2. I don't mind a lovely park stroll but there are plants with foxtails along the path. There was several small foxtails attached to my dog's leash by the time we made it to the park. 3. As another reviewer mentioned, there are little "potholes" in the park itself. My dog injured herself, presumably because of one of these potholes and was limping at the end of our visit. Fortunately, she was better by the next day, but it was really worrisome! So, for all of these reasons, I will not be returning to this dog park. read more

Lovely dog park that's open to anyone willing to walk in from the street. There is no car entry to the park since the fire. We love the long, beautiful, easy hike in and enjoy the limited visitors. Although many of the trees are burnt, the park was mostly spared and it is now blooming with the regrowth of spring. read more

I usually love this park and the people/dogs who frequent it. I've been coming for the last two years and have met some really great people. I'm posting this review as more of a warning to other people who frequent the park -- as I don't have much information on the person to file an official police report. Today, the owner of this brown poodle named "Bear" just screamed at me "Next time I'm bringing my gun, and shooting your dog" (all the dogs were just playing and he completely flipped out unprovoked). The five other people at the park was dumbfounded and afraid. He then left the park. He is a middle aged man, average height/weight, grayish hair, glasses. I stayed an extra half hour, afraid to walk to my car (I'm a petite woman, at the park alone). Be careful out there, friends. We live in some crazy times and shouldn't let some jerk jeopardize our feeling of safety. read more

A little difficult to find and certainly not easy parking, even for handicapped drivers, but the serene environment shared by small dog / big dog partitions has recovered substantially from recent fire damage. Dogs and their owners do struggle to find shade, but the sense of camaraderie and friendship overshadows that. Fresh water and poop bags are available but no adjacent toilets amplify that you are at the edges of a primitive area and not in a 'city park'. read more

My usual dog park (Conejo) was closed for it's monthly touch up so I decided to venture over to the Oak Canyon park for the first time. After parking there was a beautiful grassy park and a sign that pointed towards the dog park. This is the first thing most people probably don't realize: you need about a 5 minute walk to get to this park unlike other parks in the area. Now, it's not a huge deal, of course, but for some people it may be a turn off. There is limited handicapped parking right next to the actual dog park but most people have to hike it up. The park itself is set up in the hills which is both beautiful and quiet. It reminds me of the Simi Valley dog park in that respect. However, when compared to Simi or Conejo it's a pretty small park and doesn't afford the opportunity for big dogs to really get to running. There is a water faucet but no cool dog 'drinking fountains' like at Conejo. The supply of "doggy clean up" items is also very limited so I suggest you bring your own bag to snag the smelly presents your dog may leave. Again, Conejo is better in this respect because there is a plentiful supply of such items. Overall, it's a nice park but for the reasons mentioned above I think Conejo (and even Simi) offer much nicer dog parks. If I lived nearby I would use this park but it is not worth a special drive. read more

This is a great dog park! My dog loves it! Nestled between the hills it's quite and beautiful! The dogs at this park are friendly for the most part. Split into a big dog side and a little dog area. I use the bog dog area. Lots of grass, clean and a water area! My dog plays in the water here. Lots of nice friendly people come early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Not enough mature shade trees though, but still a great place. A little walk across the creek and up to the park, but we are exercising our pets right?? read more

I've been struggling to find a nice dog park and I'm so glad I came across this place!! Follow the signs for the dog park. It's at the top of the hill. There are two ways to get there. You can either park in the lot and walk up the hill to the dog park OR you can drive your car up the hill, park along the street (or if you're lucky park in the limited spots available) and then go to the park from there. The dog park is divided into two sections. There's a big dog and small dog play area. It's very spacious! Oh and don't worry if you forgot to bring bags to pick up your dog's waste. There are plenty there. Also there's water available for the dogs. It's a great place! Last time I went, people brought their own chairs and sat there watching their dogs. There are a few benches there, but if you plan on staying awhile I highly suggest bringing your own folding chair. I highly recommend bringing your dog to this park! It's great! read more

This dog park has been a wonderful surprise for our 7 month old Yellow Lab. He really enjoys himself every time he goes! The walk from the parking lot to the park is a bit far, especially if you have an eager dog who wants to run to the park to get there as fast as he can. With that being said, I don't think that the walk should discourage anyone from using this dog park. My only issue so far has been with a guy who brought a "Special" ball just for his dog and when mine kept retrieving it, he got a bit rougher getting it from my dog then he should have. This has been the only issue so far. There are no lights, so in the winter the park closes at dark. read more

This dog park was a little bit hard to find if you haven't been here. But use the Yelp directions and follow the blue dot lol! It is hidden in the back of the park, but a great dog park other than this! The park has poopie bags and fresh water spouts with dog bowls! Depending when you go it is busy or super low key- everyone I've met here is so friendly and their doggies are as well! Has a big and little dog area, and both are rather large, good for fetch! Saw this dog park on bringfido, so made a quick check it out stop on our way north. Pretty big totally grassy fenced in large and small dog areas. A very slight walk up a driveway and you are there. Not very busy at 9a Sunday morning. Shaded water fountain with huge water bowl we didn't use as we bring our own. A few benches but no shade trees. Lots of those pesky gnats but to be expected. This a hands down the prettiest park we've been to. Plenty of space to run and lots of green grass. Downside is parking...now I don't mind when it's not hot but when it gets 80 degrees or higher the pavement gets pretty hot and the walk is a little far so your furry one can run the risk of burning their paws in hot weather. Other downside, clicks. Clicks of people in the small dog area. Now most of them are pretty nice but if you aren't from the area you do feel out of place. Especially when there is a mix of 10-12 small to large dogs in the small area and only your one large dog in the large area. I guess my solution to both downsides would be try to go in the evening when it's not as hot and there are more people. Besides that 4/5 stars read more

This is the biggest dog park I've been to in LA. HUGE areas for both both big and small doggies to run around in. MOSTLY grass -- although the big park has some dirt patches. Water bowls/running water -- this place has it all. Perhaps could use more shaded areas as it gets hot during the day -- so I think most people come mornings and late afternoons. Couple of benches in each section -- and it seems lot of "regulars" come here. One star deducted for lack of parking -- unless you have handicap placard, you have to park about 10min away and it's really hard to find the place unless you know it's across the creek, down the hill, and then up the hill to the right. read more

We visited this dog park today for the first time after hearing about it from a friend. The park is located behind Oak Canyon Community Park and a 200 yard walk through the human park is necessary to get to the dog park. The dog park is divided into two sections: a large dog and small dog area. Each area has a separate double gate entrance. The lot looks to be about an acre and is therefor, smaller than the Canejo Creek dog park. The areas are grassy and the sod is very well maintained (or hardly used) so that's a plus. There is a shaded structure with a doggie water fountain in each section. Unfortunately, this is the only real area with shade in the park. Additionally, since the shaded area is the water fountain, it is wet and not really a good place to stand if dogs are coming in and out to grab water. Shade away from the water source would be nice. The trees that they planted are new and have not grown enough to provide any cover from the sun yet but that is to be expected of a new park. I'd imagine it'd probably take about a year for the trees to grow in. The park was empty when we arrived at around noon on a clear sunny sunday. I suspect it's because the park is new and not very people know about it yet. The location is convenient as it's a closer drive for us than the Canejo dog park but we'll probably be going back to the Canejo dog park until this one gets more shade and more people find out about it. This is a great park, not too crowded and well maintained with lots of grass for the dogs to run. Have been here many times without incident with good mannered dogs and courteous people. I do want to forewarn everyone though if you see a grey pit bull by the name of Marley, you may want to leave. On Christmas day after being at the park without incident for approximately an hour, Marley arrived whereupon from the moment of his arrival, the owners kids were commenting and concerned about Marley interacting with other dogs. It's as if they knew something could/would happen. Well it did.. Marley went from 0 - 100 mph without provocation and attacked my dog pinning him down and biting his neck multiple times. If you see the silver Cadillac pic I posted (doesn't use assigned parking lot) I would rethink visiting. read more

Came here because Conejo was closed. The park is significantly smaller but still nice. The small dog run is about 1/4 the size of Conejo Dog Park but it's well kept and full of grass as of our visit. It's hidden and NOT super convenient to get to however the park you walk through to get to the dog area is beautiful with vast green hills to run and play in and it's set right in the middle of beautiful hills with a nice view. There's also trails that seem worth coming back for, the dog park itself isn't anything to write home about but if you come for the trails it's a nice little bonus play time for your dog at the end of a hike. Other reviewers noted that there aren't many supplies offered, this is true. I always bring my own bags but if you don't normally, you should. They have community bag boxes which are meant to be filled by dog park attendees. These were pretty empty offering just a few reused grocery bags. So if you are feeling generous bring some bags to add to the pile! Also, there isn't a nice big water fountain like Conejo, just one small faucet and communal bowl. I always bring my own travel water bowl when out with my pup and it came in handy here to avoid possible dog illness by sharing that bowl. Technically, you're not supposed to drive all the way up past the creek and park up next to the dog park but I noticed A LOT of people doing it, in fact the majority. Probably regulars. It is a bit of a walk up the hill but the small lot up near the dog park gets filled quickly so don't be a jerk and park there! It's intended for handicap spaces. Bring a jacket! The dog area is enclosed by hills and it gets really chilly up there! If I lived in the area I would come here often but for now it's a good back up park for days like today when Conejo is closed. read more

Really beautiful park/ separate areas for big & little dogs. Everyone is very friendly here and it's laid back. Only downside is that it's a bit of a walk, across the creek and up a short hill to the dog park. That and there is very little shade but usually a nice breeze in the afternoon. read more

Only good while it is cool out. We went for the 1st time when it was too hot out. There were no other dogs & lots of bees on the walk there. What a beautiful dog park! There's so much space for pets to run and play. Spare tennis balls, poop bags, and water bowls are available. My dog loved running around and sniffing all the trees. We've been to Oak Canyon about 10 times and will be back many more times. It's a fun dog park with a good mix of other dogs and courteous people. It's smaller than Conejo Creek (on Avenida de Las Flores in TO). As others have said, it's a short walk up a path to get there (which can be tough for some dogs after active play time in the park). There are plenty of poop bags throughout the park and dog owners are good about cleaning up after their dogs. The water faucets are cold and always working. If the parking area (now just 2 spots for vehicles handicapped stickers) was bigger, it'd get 5 stars. read more

Best dog park ever! It really isn't that far of a walk from the parking lot.. if you are going to give your dog a little exercise it won't kill you get some as well. There is also handicap parking right in front of the park for those in need of it. There isn't a lot of shade, but by next summer when the trees are more grown in there should be. The people there are really nice and friendly and there are a lot of benches if you just want to sit and watch your dog. There are "community bag" boxes where people bring extra bags and leave them for people to use. The best part is the grass. Well kept and a lot better than the woodchips they have at most other dog parks. They also have separate areas for large and small dogs. The small dog area is about half the size of the large dog area, but I have a Jack Russel and he had more than enough room to run around. Unfortunately I live really far and was only able to go because I was visiting someone who lives nearby. I wish there was a park like this on the Westside. read more

I take my dog there 3 to 4 times a week and all of the dog owners there are very nice. Most of the dogs are well behaved and it was a great place for me to take my dog there to get acclimated. I got my dog from Camarillo shelter about two months ago and was very shy and nervous around other dogs. I've been bringing him here for about two weeks and the other owners were very accommodating and gave me a lot of advice as a first time dog owner. The only complaint I may have is that there are some of owners that do not pick up after their dog but that's not a complaint on the park itself. read more

My favorite local dog park! It's takes a little longer to get to but well worth it. Some people drive across the creek & park on the side of the road, however, rumor has it that the rangers ticket if they happen to see it. The extra five minutes to walk up from the parking lot is no problem for me. It's also a pretty ten minute walk if you park at the community center. Dog bags are available throughout the park & scoopers inside the off leash area. There are separate sides for small and large dogs in the off leash pens. Sometimes people choose to switch it up because the temperament or play style are matches and the dogs show interest but not before asking permission of the others. The rangers & staff are extremely helpful. They used to overwater to a point that a mud pit was created & as soon as one of the dog dads called their attention to the problem it was fixed the next day. My dog was cut to the point of needing stitches on the snake gate and they repaired it promptly after my phone call. read more
