I love this little hidden gem of a dog park! Friendly people and sweet dogs. Cute that there is a big dog & little dog side. Knocked one star off because there are little pot holes everywhere (on the big dog side at least) that need to be filled before someone's pups twists and ankle or worse :( super dangerous! Otherwise, great park! My fav.

Lovely dog park that's open to anyone willing to walk in from the street. There is no car entry to the park since the fire. We love the long, beautiful, easy hike in and enjoy the limited visitors. Although many of the trees are burnt, the park was mostly spared and it is now blooming with the regrowth of spring.

I usually love this park and the people/dogs who frequent it. I've been coming for the last two years and have met some really great people. I'm posting this review as more of a warning to other people who frequent the park -- as I don't have much information on the person to file an official police report. Today, the owner of this brown poodle named "Bear" just screamed at me "Next time I'm bringing my gun, and shooting your dog" (all the dogs were just playing and he completely flipped out unprovoked). The five other people at the park was dumbfounded and afraid. He then left the park. He is a middle aged man, average height/weight, grayish hair, glasses. I stayed an extra half hour, afraid to walk to my car (I'm a petite woman, at the park alone). Be careful out there, friends. We live in some crazy times and shouldn't let some jerk jeopardize our feeling of safety.

Great that it's now open again after the fire! That's right you can drive your car up as normal. Love this dog park not to big not to small. The plants growing after the fire looks gr

My usual dog park (Conejo) was closed for it's monthly touch up so I decided to venture over to the Oak Canyon park for the first time. After parking there was a beautiful grassy park and a sign that pointed towards the dog park. This is the first thing most people probably don't realize: you need about a 5 minute walk to get to this park unlike other parks in the area. Now, it's not a huge deal, of course, but for some people it may be a turn off. There is limited handicapped parking right next to the actual dog park but most people have to hike it up. The park itself is set up in the hills which is both beautiful and quiet. It reminds me of the Simi Valley dog park in that respect. However, when compared to Simi or Conejo it's a pretty small park and doesn't afford the opportunity for big dogs to really get to running. There is a water faucet but no cool dog 'drinking fountains' like at Conejo. The supply of "doggy clean up" items is also very limited so I suggest you bring your own bag to snag the smelly presents your dog may leave. Again, Conejo is better in this respect because there is a plentiful supply of such items. Overall, it's a nice park but for the reasons mentioned above I think Conejo (and even Simi) offer much nicer dog parks. If I lived nearby I would use this park but it is not worth a special drive.

This is a great dog park! My dog loves it! Nestled between the hills it's quite and beautiful! The dogs at this park are friendly for the most part. Split into a big dog side and a little dog area. I use the bog dog area. Lots of grass, clean and a water area! My dog plays in the water here. Lots of nice friendly people come early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Not enough mature shade trees though, but still a great place. A little walk across the creek and up to the park, but we are exercising our pets right??

My dog absolutely loves this place!! We always make new friends, pup & people! We don't tend to stay very long if there isn't any shade available for us to set up under for breaks, but totally worth the drive for a little or a long while ! Enjoy !!!

Pretty bare on a Saturday afternoon!

This dog park has been a wonderful surprise for our 7 month old Yellow Lab. He really enjoys himself every time he goes! The walk from the parking lot to the park is a bit far, especially if you have an eager dog who wants to run to the park to get there as fast as he can. With that being said, I don't think that the walk should discourage anyone from using this dog park. My only issue so far has been with a guy who brought a "Special" ball just for his dog and when mine kept retrieving it, he got a bit rougher getting it from my dog then he should have. This has been the only issue so far. There are no lights, so in the winter the park closes at dark.

Ask the Community - Oak Canyon Dog Park

Is this park open at night? If so, how late?

The park ranger comes to lock up when it gets too dark to see. There are no lights and it's a bit of a hike so I wouldn't suggest being out there after dark anyway.

Not sure why people bring dogs who are not dog friendly to dog parks, but we've encountered that a few times at this dog park. If your dog is not dog-friendly, please don't bring them to a dog park. We try to go here, but I often end up taking him to De Anza Park, down the street. He can't be off-leash, but he likes it better. Which is sad, because he usually LOVES dog parks, and being around other dogs. But, more often than not, he immediately wants to leave, and prefers the other park

I suspect they replaced the ground material in the park. I discovered this park before DogPPL but now that we can't get to DogPPL because of the road closures. we are back at free Trancas! I love it because it's huge. However, there is no delineation between large and small, it's one giant park. It's way out by Trancas and just a quick drive up into the canyon from the Vintage Grocer, another store I love! So you can pop in at the vintage grocer and grab some snacks for yourself or after you get finished with the dog park you can swing down there and stop at one of the restaurants. I know Kristy's is located in the center now as well as the brewery. The location of the dog park is impressively scenic as far as dog parks go. There are canyon and ocean views. The restrooms are generally pretty clean; they've never been filthy even though they are ranger maintained public facilities. There's a really cute little kids playground that has the squishy ground, which feels so nice to walk on and then of course the gigantic soccer field. There's plenty of free parking and it's never been crowded. I have had some negative dog encounters here because it is so quiet people will sometimes bring less than fully socialized dogs here. So you have to be cautious and monitor your dog if they're not in the park alone. But that's any dog park. And as a dog owner, we owe it to our pups to monitor them. There's no cell phone service here at least for me with AT&T, but I do love the ocean views. It's really a great dog park. The picnic table is in the shade always helps us beat the heat. And although my dog doesn't jump over the little rails or going to the red tunnel, he loves that there's chaparral on the hill that he can go pee and sniff, and he loves all the trees in the park and the positioned rocks within the park. They're fun little obstacles for him and I to play hide and seek

The park itself is beautiful and clean, which is why we felt confident booking it for such an important celebration. Unfortunately, shortly after our event began, the splash pad stopped working and remained off for the duration of our rental. This was the main activity for approximately 20 children in attendance. While a park ranger attempted to assist, there was ultimately no resolution. What was especially disappointing was the lack of urgency and care from park staff. There was no real apology or effort to make the situation right. We had to go through hoops just to get someone on the phone, which was frustrating in the middle of hosting a children's party. If pavilions are being rented out for private events, you would expect someone to be readily available to assist renters when issues arise. Additionally, we were told at booking that Pavilion B was already reserved and that inflatables were only permitted in that space. However, Pavilion B remained empty the entire time. Had we known, we would have booked that pavilion or adjusted our plans to include a bounce house to make up for the loss of the splash pad. While the park grounds are well maintained, the lack of communication, unavailable amenity, and absence of real-time support made what should have been a joyful day unnecessarily stressful. I hope improvements are made so other families do not have a similar experience.

It's not so much the park, it's the dog owners which made me take a break from this spot. Like other reviews said some people just aren't mindful dog owners and why they take their dogs to the park is beyond me. My dog is shy and attached to my hip so he didn't love the dog park to begin with. When I'd come here to this specific dog park there were enough instances of aggressive little dogs attacking other dogs that I kind of just became over this place. If I felt my dog was safe here I'd try to bring him more but with the little aggressive dogs & his disinterest we haven't been back for a long time. Some of my friends have said good things about this dog park so I'm sure it just depends on the day and which set of doggies you come across. My more updated review is for the pickleball courts. Came today and I enjoyed these courts. They are nicely painted and clean. My only upgrade is I wish they had more squares. Only two pickleball courts so if it's a busy day you'll definitely need to wait. However today wasn't too bad and we got to play a lot. Met a lot of nice fellow players and overall it was a good day. I like that the parking spots are close to the courts. Easy. A nice place to play as long as it isn't busy, wish they had more courts but I just doesn't seem like they have the room. I'll definitely be back though.
