If visiting Cumberland, stopping by Coney Island Famous Weiners is a good place to grab a quick bite and dine somewhere which has been in business since 1918. Walking into the place is like being transported to a 1970's era diner. Composite wood booths along with low stools by a counter, along with Pittsburgh Steelers memorabilia is an homage to the working class character of Cumberland. While this place offers a few other items such as burgers, the main reason to visit are for their hot dogs, or more appropriately, their weiners. The classic version is a boiled dog on a steamed bun, with their house chili, mustard, and chopped onions. No frills and all flavor. The casing has that nice snap which comes from quality meat, and the chili is seasoned well without being too salty or spicy. I might recommend asking for 1/2 the onions or have them on the side, since the amount they load on can overpower and mask the taste of everything else. As of this review, a classic weiner is $1.65 each. So order yourself two (or three or four, but honestly two should be enough), a drink and you can get out for under $5 ($6 if you want to leave a tip). So it's been a year since I ate here and wrote a review based on how bad it was. Sorry to say nothing has changed same rude loud staff including Gino. I ate inside and right after customer left Gino and the rude cook started talking about the customer because she ask for 7 condiments. First of all you have to ask for everything from ketchup to napkins and then it's begrudgingly given to you. I ordered for dogs, fry and soda $15.00 what a joke. My dogs were barely warm on cold buns and maybe a Tablespoon of sauce. The place is old, dirty and run down. It's dark inside like going into a dive bar. He only take cash so he can pocket what he wants. I doubt unless it broke that there has been no money reinvested back in this business since it opened. The only reason the outside looks a little decent is Gino somehow got &10,000 from the City to refresh it. Unfortunately there are still people who support the dive to get it going. Truly not worth the money. If you want to see a lot of dirty pictures that mostly mean nothing stop by, but don't expect any service or great food, just expensive for what you get. This is an old review - goes back to the COVID days. My brother was in from out of town, visiting Cumberland for the first time. He loves hot dogs so I said you HAVE to go to Coney Island. There was just an ordering window due to COVID, and only one other group and a person or two ordering. We went up to the window to place our order. I got a dog with mustard and onions and a Diet Coke, my brother also ordered a dog with mustard and onions, and just a cup of ice water. At this time back then, you paid after you picked up the food, which the old, long straggly gray-haired guy at the window gruffly told us. So we waited, and waited. Only 2 orders before ours. We waited about 20minutes. Finally, the guy very gruffly calls Onion& Mustard - diet Coke!. So I go up and pay - $5. Seems kind of high for just a hot dog and reg size soda. Oh well. The guy then calls my brother's. He goes up to pay, asks the dude if this is his, the guy meanly says Take It!, and my brother picks up his bag and his small cup of water. I asked how much his was, he said it was also $5! Now I know something's fishy. $5 for a hot dog and a cup of water? Nope! Never again! And the hot dogs are small to boot!. I have to note that Gino was nowhere around or I would have said something. I have no idea who this old mean character was, but I'll never go back. And if I ever get a chance to talk to Gino without a bunch of people around, I'll question him about it, even though it was a couple years ago, because this has soured me to Coney Island forever. read more

I met the owner Gino. He went beyond our expectations. I recently had mouth procedure done due to work injury so I couldn't eat properly. He told me he can cut it for me in smaller bites so I can eat them. He cut the fish cutlet and burger into pieces so i can eat them comfortably. I got a cherry and vanilla soda. He told us we can have free refills. The soda tasted More flat, but I don't even know it's suppose to be that way. However, it was good. Can't explain why. The food is affordable. hot dogs are like 2$. They have chili sauce on them and onions. He brings out the food to the table. Customers can pay before or after. The service is great. Will I be back? Yes if I am ever in the area. I am Giving it 4 stars because they don't have a bathroom available/ so You would have to go wash my hands somewhere else. I didn't see any hand sanitizer in the place. This Place is My favorite place in all of Cumberland. It's a Tradition in Cumberland, and everyone goes there. The Hotdogs are topped with a bean-less chili, mustard & onions, the buns are soft & hot. They are served with a side of crinkle cut fries, but the hail in comparison to the wieners. the place has a "old town charm" Wooden tables, built in Benches, Coat Hooks & Old Pictures up on the wall. I live in Philly, which is 4 hours away, but have made day trips just to pick some up. I went for a visit over the weekend, and brought back 12. They are proud to have been serving weiners since 1918! Drive past the fast food places just off I 68, and you'll find Curtis' (really part of the name) in Downtown Cumberland. It's been there since, "before 'Johnny Went Marching Off' to War!" A shabby, greasy spoon, serves up a traditional coney dog. The chili has a bland taste, but pretty good. Disappointment with my hot dog led me to order the Cheeseburger (frozen beef patty fried to extinction served on cold bun.) Couldn't eat that, so ordered "Fish Tail Sandwich" to go. Very tasty, flaky, cornmeal coated, fried plank of fish with cheese. Next time I stop in Cumberland, I'll go marching back and get the "Cheese Sandwich" and chocolate milk with french fries to go -- the healthy alternative. read more

Came back here a few weeks ago. We both ordered hot dogs and fries this time. My gf hotdogs had chili on them and mine had ketchup and onion. My gf hotdogs chili looked like dried hamburger on top. The fries were decent. We had ordered soda but they were flat.. when we asked for water the waiter got pretty snippy with us but who the hell wants to pay 2$ for each soda when it's flat. Probably the best hot dogs I have ever had. I do not stop in that often, but when I do I order as many as I can possibly eat. I order "without" which is mustard and a chili sauce on it. I was born and raised in Cumberland, MD. I can remember my father taking us to Coney Island/Curtis's for hot dogs many times. This has been a lifetime tridition! These hot dogs are GREAT! Once you have tried them you will crave more. Everytime we return to Cumberland to visit family, we always visit Coney Island. The sause, onions and mustard cant be beat.
