While I am partial to my beloved Coney I-lander in Tulsa, these coneys were really good. Loaded with mustard, chili, and onions and the red casing hot dogs, (I've only ever had one time before) they hit the spot! This experience was only enhanced by their extremely friendly staff and ownership, who gave me a coney to try as I was an out of town first timer. The place was well lit and decorated for the holiday including a live Santa. When I'm not in a rush and just looking to add to my coney rankings I will return. read more

When I was a teenager -(Don, using Carol's account)- I would go to the downtown movie theaters like The State, Midwest, Criterion and etc. A bit south of The State theater, or maybe just south of The Midwest, was the Coney Island. Painted on the steamed up windows was their motto - "Buy 'em by the sack". They served beer, so I was forbidden to go there by my parents. I could not wait to get old enough to go to The Coney Island! Now decades have passed and many dozens, if not hundreds of coney dogs have been consumed. I learned that the place was opened about 1924 by Greek immigrants. Presumably descendants of the same family still have a hand in it. As to the food, don't expect more than what it is - a place for hot dogs, chili, frito chili pies and greek spaghetti with chili. It is brick chili, not canned, but is still most suited for coneys, not in a bowl or even over pasta. One of the managers at the Capitol Hill location can lay six or seven buns along his hand and forearm and dress the coneys as if on a production line. I can no longer eat more than 3 at a time, but recall dining with guys who would easily eat 10 or 12 on a bet! In any case, the coney dogs are exactly as such things should be eaten and are very tasty indeed. While no longer priced at $1.10, as in the betting days, they are quite reasonable at below $3. Support a piece of OKC restaurant history and "Buy 'em by the sack"! Or join in some competitive eating at the downtown location. read more

Since I was 4 years old, I've enjoyed these small hot dogs called Coneys in this location in Capitol Hill.. It started as Bob and Mary's Coney Island way back in the 50s. My parents would either dine at the one downtown or at this location with was a half block east back then. For me, not only are these Coney Dogs absolutely the best I have ever eaten. They are reasonable. They use Schwan's Meats and Chili. This has been the tradition of Coney Islands since their inception. Every time I eat here or downtown or at the one in Downtown Tulsa. It brings me back to my childhood and the wonderful flavor of these simple yet incredibly good little Coney Dogs. They also have other items on their menu. Chili, spaghetti, and other related items. I think you'll love this place as I do. I highly recommend this place. It's clean, it's fresh now. Not out of a plastic tray ready but in a steaming hot hot bath with hot buns. Reliving my childhood! Food Amazing! When I took the first bite my childhood visits to this place flashed back to me. The taste is incredible and exactly what I remember when my daddy would bring my sister and I here. I am surprised by how the flavor is still spot on after 20 something years. Customer-service The reason I had to give it three stars is because the staff was not welcoming. Especially the two ladies who were fixing the hot dogs. They were rude and seemed bothered. I specifically said "everything except for onions" and onions were added and when I brought it to her attention she began saying something to the other lady in their language. This is far from the service we received when the owners were there. They always remembered us and greeted us with a warm welcome. You always felt like family, but today I didn't feel that. It is all you expect from a Coney Island. Fast service, great hot dogs smothered in delicious steaming chili. I love going to old buildings and mom and pop stores. This one is both and I wasn't disappointed. The hot dog bun was steamed and soft just like I like them. The chili was hot and not overly spicy. I'm not a fan of spicy hot food so I loved it. This is a second location for the famous Coney Island. The other one is located on W. Main Street and Walker downtown. Not sure which location was made first, but there's definitely consistency between the two. This location is bigger and a little nicer than the one downtown. Parking is a lot easier here too. Great hot dogs and chili. Free refills on tea. The staff is so friendly here, much more so than the other location downtown. I'll definitely be back. TIP: Get cash before you come. This was a local coney island that was part of my childhood. I had not been there in 30 years. I got several of my family members four generations of family from 78 to 1 years old to visit the restaurant. This was prompted by a resent article in the news paper featuring the place. I was so excited given three generations had childhood memories of Coney Island. The lady behind the counter was dismissive and rude. The restaurant was layered with dirt that comes from long term neglect. I realize that the dogs are only $1.80 but even given that, the quality was terrible. The hot dog had so much red dye in it that when you bit into it their was two different colors inside. I could get a better hot dog from a 7-eleven. read more

Oh my gosh...where to begin. My husband and I went here for lunch. The restaurant was filthy (but we stayed due to the high yelp reviews). When we ordered 3 dogs with only chili, you would have thought we ordered something incredibly complex -- we had to repeat our order several times...like we were having to convi ce them that all we wanted was chili. Our order was presented to us as 3 disgusting-looking smooshed up hotdogs. I took a drink of my coke, and it had almost zero syrup...gross. My husband took one bite of his dog, chewed it up, and then spit it out. We immediately took the food back, told the people behind the counter how bad it was...they just stared at us. They did not offer to fix the issue or give us a refund. We will never ever be back. How do you screw up a hotdog so bad?!?! read more

Coney Island doesn't need a good review, their customers are as die-hard as they come. It's a family owned and operated hot dog restaurant-very basic, dirt cheap and good enough food for the money. The Greek family that runs the place is friendly and appreciative of your business. Don't expect much (anything) in the way or decorations or atmosphere. If you're unpretentious, want a few chili dogs on a budget, go to Coney Island. Technically, I suppose that this what you would call a 1 star restaurant (if any stars at all) but they know exactly what they are and do a good job at what that is. read more
