Having driven by Confections with Convictions a few times, loving candy and curious about the place, I went in yesterday and am I glad I did!!! I cannot believe that I haven't been to this place and I live around the corner! Thanks to Beth, I've made my first visit! Met both the owner and his mother. They are very nice and welcoming. There were so many handmade creations to choose from. He picked out a white chocolate lemon cream truffle and I chose a milk chocolate mango, pineapple lime Carmel as our samples. Wow, so creamy and full of flavor. We then picked out four truffles to take home and share with the rest of our family. 1 salted caramel, 1 banana pecan Carmel, very dark chocolate and fruit salad. This is the kind of business I'm so very proud to show off to out-of-towners. Confections With Convictions uses only Fair Trade Organic chocolate, and uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible (like fruit, maple syrup, and herbs). I visit CWC regularly to buy a box of assorted vegan truffles for my sweetie. Most of the truffles at CWC are made with dairy, but they usually have around seven vegan varieties, all clearly labeled in the display case. Every time I deliver a box of these gorgeous, hand-made chocolates to my sweetie, the room gets a bit quiet, except for sounds like "mmm... MMMMmmmm!" and "oooohhh" and the occasional sigh or giggle. It's nothing naughty -- the chocolates are just that good. Even if you're not a candy person yourself, it's worth a visit just to gaze (and smell!) at the gorgeous variety of goodies behind the glass. read more

I needed a door prize for a work function, and I relied on an out of town company to ship me some chocolates. Well, the evening before the event, they said that the chocolates wouldn't arrive like they had committed to, and there was nothing they could do. In a panic, I called Confections with Convictions. It was after their closing time, but they still picked up the phone. I explained the situation (I'm sure the desperation was seeping through my voice) and asked them for their help with these requirements: a gift of chocolates that would (a) display nicely and (b) cost around $50. They pulled through beautifully. They said it wouldn't be a problem and asked when I wanted to pick them up. They opened at 10am but would be happy to open up earlier. The chocolates were a huge hit! I've really learned my lesson: never go to a national company when there's a local business that's happy to fill the need. They really came through for me, and I couldn't more emphatically recommend this business to others. Confections with Convictions makes their chocolates locally, and the product is really phenomenal. They have all kinds of different options for truffles and caramels and even incorporate other local companies like their Bell's beer truffles. If you buy a box of chocolates, they will create a "map" for you to remember what each one is, and they make sure the chocolates are arranged symmetrically in the box to maximize aesthetic value. This is definitely going to be my new go-to place for buying gifts. read more

I was glad I did, this place some the best quality chocolate available mixed up in some very creative and traditional concoctions. I literally turned around on the way to I-94 out of town (and I was late!) to come back here to get some of these gorgeous truffles. Some businesses are just in it for the money, and some business actually give back to the community and Confections With Convictions is the latter. There are too many beautiful options here to pick a favorite - though the Kentucky Sorghum Caramel with Smoked Salt & the Meyer Lemon coated in Dark Chocolate are pretty great. The artistry is beautiful and there is a huge selection of flavors. I dare say they must have something for everyone. I've had chocolates all over Europe and these can absolutely compete. High quality ingredients, many Vegan options that you'd never know were dairy free, and also sweetened with unrefined sugars. If you're going to eat chocolate, I highly recommend going for quality over quantity, and you'll find it here. You're worth (at least) $1.50ish per day. What better thing than to support an establishment like this with your daily indulgence instead of $1.50 on some coffee you can make at home. And the more you buy, the cheaper they are! Get here. When people talk about supporting local business because of all of the benefits to the entire community, Confections with Convictions is the quintessential example. The product is top notch. I would challenge you to find better chocolate. I recently attended a Yelp event at Tempo Vino Winery and Confections with Convictions brought an fantastic variety of truffles to sample. Their vegan truffle, made with coconut milk and infused with local blueberries, was a surprise hit with many people. There would be many more vegans in the world if all vegan cuisine tasted this heavenly. My other favorite truffle was infused with honey and was topped with bits of honeycomb. On a cold February night, it was a taste of summer. I stopped at two truffles, only because I was being polite, not because I couldn't have eaten the entire tray. I have never never been disappointed with a chocolate from Confections with Convictions. Beyond outstanding chocolate, Confections with Convictions employs kids who have had difficulties with the legal system and may not otherwise be able to get a job. The kids learn job skills, they learn they can do something else with their lives, and they learn that they can make something beautiful. All in all, this is an outstanding business, that is an asset to Kalamazoo. read more
