Our guests can't stop talking about the desserts!! We really struggled to find an option within our budget that allowed us to purchase a simple 2-tier cake. Most options require a minimum of a 3-tier with 200 plain cupcakes at $800+. Before finding Continental Pastries & Delicatessen, we were deeply disappointed in our cake tasting experiences (some costing $50 for 4 small bites of cake) and worried we may need to settle. Patty (aka Patty Cakes) was such a joy to work with during our tasting and did an amazing job at explaining all of their capabilities. We were able to purchase a 2-tier wedding cake and a variety of dessert options so every guest had something to enjoy. This included cupcakes with filling, cookies, brownies, GF options, cheesecakes, butter cookies, and so much more! The detail of our wedding cake was MUCH simpler than expected... but still looked nice in the end. We given this bakery three different tries over the last two years. Each time we've been disappointed. Items in the bakery cases look good but they just don't taste of being freshly baked. Today was the last time we will visit. We bought a couple peanut butter cheesecake bites, a few cannolis and a cream puff. We expected the cream on the top of the cheesecakes to be soft and fluffy. It was hard. The cream puff shell was dry. The cannoli weren't filled completely and the filling was just not appetizing. We really wanted to rave about this bakery but just can't. I see so many great reviews here and on Google about their wedding/birthday cakes so maybe their fresh baked items are better. read more

My go-to for desserts for the better part of my 38 years of life. Amazing cakes and pastries, good donuts, delicious cookies. The sandwiches are delicious and hearty portions, I often end up taking half home. They've always taken great care of me whether I'm just stopping in to grab something on the way to somewhere or if I've placed an order. They do usually have a great selection of desserts and cakes ready to go in the case, which is great. I love the individual cake slices, such unique flavors like blueberry lemonade and cookies and cream cake. I definitely recommend continental for all your dessert needs! I have to admit that I am of two minds about this bakery. I have been to weddings at which the wedding cakes were made by this bakery, and the cakes looked amazing and tasted good. And we regularly stop by the bakery, when we are in town, to buy a couple Napoleons (or four). They are amazing and tasty pastries. But I have also been to at least two weddings in town at which the wedding cakes were made by this bakery, and I thought the cakes were unmitigated disasters. Lopsided and badly frosted, the cakes tasted even worse. But the cakes were not nearly as unpalatable as some of the other pastries and cookies I have eaten from this bakery. My girl has just assigned the simple moniker "sawdust cookies" to these bakery products. (To this day I cannot fathom how the same people who can make such delectable Napoleons can produce cookies and other pastries that are such dreck.) I would describe the employees providing service as acting distracted and bored. I have rarely run into any employees that seem engaged and interested. Being a fan of Sarkozy Bakery, I have never purchased or eaten any of the bakery's breads or ready to eat sandwiches, so I have to reserve comment. I was possibly* a little** chaotic in figuring out what we wanted, and found the customer service to be patient, friendly and kind. We had yellow cakes with raspberry, yellow cake with apricot, yellow cake with lemon, yellow cake with strawberry, carrot cake, chocolate with chocolate.... holy cow they were amazing. What a treasure! They carry a line of German imports at much more reasonable prices than I pay elsewhere: Rudolph's Bread, Rügen Bratherringe, Niederegger Marzipan. And the tortes are just lovely. Tortes and pastry selections change. One of my favorite tortes is the blueberry and lemon yellow cake. The grasshopper I found too sweet. And they are sold by the slice! The hot cross buns are very tasty, lemon in the icing and perhaps a touch of cinnamon; better than the ones I had in Scotland. They have a deli and I got a tuna salad wrap to go; thought I order the chips and pickle for $1 but only received the pickle. Discovered only when I was at Ft Custer to eat with a lake view. As in most places, way too much tuna salad so I have half for a second meal. This motivates me to spend more time at Fort Custer Recreation Area and the North Country Trail. Loved working with the wonderful ladies at Continental! We had them do a wedding cake for my son's wedding. We were from out of town. Battle Creek was chosen because it was the half way point between Chicago and Clarkston. I was concerned about arranging things long distance and on quick trips to BC to measure the hall and do rushed meet ups with area vendors. I actually had very little to worry about! They were extremely helpful, even when we changed things up a month after our meeting. I sent the cake topper, silk flowers, and ribbon, and they took it from there. We were wonderfully pleased with the cake. Delivery and set up was on time. Now that I have Continental in my contacts, I hope that I need their services again :) read more

I'd gone there for lunch and I'm addicted to their Greek chicken wrap! The service is excellent every time I visit the service is fast. We have ALWAYS gone here for orders of cakes and special event desserts for years. After last weekend, I will never go again. I am a bridal vendor and even had them as a preferred vendor on my website. They will be removed today. I reached out to them to try and make it right and they offered nothing!!!! We ordered a sweet 16 Birthday cake (went big for pictures and milestone!) and upon picking up (before even leaving) the cake was very disappointing! It looked nothing like the picture shown or written by the clerk. It looked like a child decorated it. They had no proper packaging and stuck in a cardboard box. It ruined the frosting before it was even removed from the location. The topper wasn't properly inserted and was moved around also. I am showing pictures of how off balance it was, how bad the decorating was and then how it was not packaged properly to transport in a cake box. Having to cut a general cardboard box open is obviously a disaster. I cannot imagine if this is how wedding cakes are turning out. My wait to be approached for my order was extremely long even though I was the only one in line at the order area for sandwiches, etc. employees looked over and saw me, but no one bothered to come over. Finally someone came over to help me. This is not the first time for a long wait. The first time I had their Greek sandwich it was very good. This place has THE BEST cakes ever! Lots of birthday and both my high school and college graduation cakes came from Continental. They make amazingly soft frosting that doesn't taste too sugar-y and fill the cakes with the best creams, fruits, and gels. If I could eat cake here everyday I would. I've always known how good their pastries and cakes were, but finally decided to try them for lunch. Their sandwiches are delicious, however the customer service stinks! I was the only one at the counter waiting to order and no one was there to help me. The bakery counter is at the other end of the building, where apparently, all the workers were. We came in from Detroit and Germany, it was my nephew's birthday and we needed a cake, ice cream, lunch. We stopped in and got a cake, ice cream, and lunch meat. The service was wonderful, the girls even got us ice cream before that side was open. My nephew, along with the rest of the family was impressed with the cake (and the ice cream), the cake was light and flavorful, kept moist for the three days it took to finish the cake. Much looks the same, but the delicate, buttery subtleties of old Europe have been swapped with cloying, sugary, unimaginative flavor. At the deli counter, customer service is random, sometimes veering into the comical (May I have a fork to eat this quiche with? Sure - how many?)
